This is some interview! Jill's resilience in the face of severe complex post traumatic stress AND professional ignorance and arrogance shines through the whole of this compelling engagement. To have had to deal with severe adverse childhood events, then with crassly inappropriate psychiatric interventions including the surely barbaric electro convulsive therapy, with resultant brain damage, is almost impossible to comprehend. It is sadly the case that Jill's experiences are far from unusual, but others have fared far worse in the face of psychiatric 'therapeutic' intervention.
Thank you Jill, I have been traumatised by witnessing my uncle and other patients having ECT. I was a child and although I never saw it taking place, I saw the patients terror as they were strapped to a trolley and wheeled into the room and I saw them drooling after coming out. This was enough to cause me trauma among other trauma from witnessing what went on in the psychiatric hospital. This was particularly difficult to watch but it’s been extremely helpful to see it from your perspective. I’m struck by how powerless people are when needing help. I have battled my own instincts and tried to seek help myself only to get arrested. I’m not even sure why I expected them to acknowledge the trauma, I thought that things had moved on, that they’d be able to validate and reassure me these were things of the past and like Dr Josef said it was only used in extreme cases of catatonia, only to find out nothing’s really changed. I’ve been reluctant to take psychiatric medication. When I didn’t want antidepressants I was threatened with being sectioned (being involuntarily detained under the mental health act UK) I was deemed medication resistant and told no medication would work for me after one course of antidepressants. I saw what ECT and psych meds did to my Uncle, I was fearful of being chemically coshed. I was prescribed amitriptyline for pain and told it was a tricyclic that is also an antidepressant and a sedative. It seemed like it might help with all my problems. It worked a bit so they upped and upped the doses, there was side effects, dry mouth and although I was getting more sleep I didn’t feel rested and had a muggy head. I was still having suicidal thoughts and I stopped taking it as I had factored it into my plans. I should not really have been prescribed it and certainly not at such high doses. I know so many people that have been prescribed it while on other medications and it made them extremely unwell. I don’t know if that was serotonin syndrome or not. Jill, I wish you every success in getting this reviewed and laws changed.
I was told that I would not remember the process but I do. They had us lined up against the back wall in our beds. I was always the third one to go. I laid there with my eyes shut trying so hard not to hear what I was about to hear. I could hear the doctors and nurses talking and then I could hear the buzzing from the electric shock and the person groaning I could see them out of corn on my eyes and they were convulsing on the table. I saw the same thing with patient number two and then it was my turn. I felt every bit of pain surging through my body . I desperately wanted my depression to go away. I endured this horrific pain three more times before I quit. My depression had not gotten better . I know have severe nightmare s. I also have memory loss and my doctor told me it would come back but it never did. Huge chunks of the time I was raising my children are gone forever.
I'm astounded at how well Jill seems after getting off several meds. She doesn't seem to have a lot of withdrawal issues. I'm still reeling from rapidly tapering off of three meds over 2 1/2 years ago.
@@staceyseymour9297 I’m in a zoom support group run by a survivor and even she says that she can’t tell by looking and talking to her clients how much we’re suffering. She mostly knows cuz she remembers how much she suffered.
Thank you for spreading awareness about the irreversible damages that causes electroshock on the brain and how it worsens patients lives. I am french and in France psychiatry is over protected. No one talks about the poor efficiency of psychiatry and psychiatrists to help and support people in distress. And it's " omerta" about electroshock. It's a serious matter. We have only the CCDH or CCHR to help.
It took me 5 years to find a taper for high dose long-term prescribed benzo use. I can agree that doctors have been completely horrible to me. My parents say they are supposed to be helping me. Instead, they call me a drug seeker who reads stuff off the internet and is basically making it up. It is infuriating.
One of the worst aspects of having trouble with meds is not being believed when something is not working for you. Some docs do not follow the guidelines put out by the pharmaceutical companies; I have seen this in a pals treatment; bad side effects with some combos. Wish there were a more natural way of treating depression.
@user-py2nz4qx8f There ARE natural ways of treating depression. TONS of them. I was able to turn my PTSD and BiPolar depression around in a years time. The thing is - it takes more than popping a pill. It takes actually making the changes in your life - bit by bit to bigger and bigger - to do so - and it helps to have support doing so. I am a Creative Wellness Coach and I assist my clients to change their life around. What the medical establishment does first and foremost is turn their patients into forever victims stripping them of any agency beyond their "treatment plan" - which is often very superficial beyond taking the drugs.
Jill, thank you for courageously sharing your experiences with what happens as a treatment compliant patient who's endured ECT's repetitive traumatic brain injury and repetitive electrical trauma searching for answers to our lengthy list of long-term consequences. Dr. Josef, thank you for courageously allowing people to share their experiences with treatment compliance and serious adverse events long recognized in peer reviewed research. For some reason Dr's are unwilling to discuss realities of manufacturer identified serious adverse events--let alone support patients navigating life after ECT and drug injuries. So thank you for doing so.
This women is extremely brave for speaking out about this. Also, Dr Josef you are doing very very important work here, that will help many. I believe you will be on the correct side of history.
There already on the correct side it's just not enough people are aware of all of this. Little by little with more brave people like her n social media/ you tube platforms more people will.

I have damage to my memory because of gabapentin, antidepressants and antipsychotics, and the trauma i went through in the psychiatric system. I was forgetting the names of my closest friends, constantly forgetting what i was saying mid-sentence or even mid-word, and forgetting where i was and where i was going every time i drove a car... I had 4 hours of testing about 1.5 yrs ago and they told me i do have memory loss but it's 100% due to "my depression", like I'm the problem and not the doctors and their drugs that actually did this to me, it felt like victim-shaming, it was insulting. I've been struggling with severe memory loss since i was put on these drugs in 2010. A 20 yr old shouldn't feel like they have dementia...
Absolutely see myself in her. Similar childhood, diagnosed Bipolar 2, 15 years of just adding more and more drugs. Weaning off for last 3 years and I literally feel like my brain is damaged. So incredibly thankfull covid happened as I was considering shock therapy myself. I couldn't find any scientific facts and refused the jax. Shocked that medical professionals would allow this to happen, I started looking into my own meds and realized, I was not getting worse. It was the side effects of the drugs I was on. I believe most of these diagnosis are just "shitty childhood syndrome".
I was the same way until I went through healing my sick body with a functional doctor- I was on an exorbitant amount of big pharma drugs for 30yrs. My memory returning was what my husband and I noticed first after about 3 months after beginning recalibrating my body and getting rid of the toxic load. I remembered phone numbers from the 80’s and didn’t have alarms going off all the time for reminders. I too would forget what I was saying mid sentence for years. Once my body was recalibrated I titrated off the rest of my gabapentin, which I was on for 17yrs & lamectil Dec 2021. No longer suffer from memory loss, depression, anxiety, ADD, rumination, etc. There is hope and healing!
I would read it Bob. 125 is insane- no pun intended. Why were you so upset? ARe you better today? I am writing a book too. Ponder this question- Why do Deer not get depressed? It's not as silly as you might think. Let me know your thoughts. You might like the book, The Body Keeps the Score. I loved that book. He practiced over 40 years and said it is getting worse- corruption and greed. He does not believe in drugs in most cases but the DSM will not reimburse for talk therapy. It's all rigged. If you show up at a shrink, it's like a fish flopping in water and showing a weakness. The sharks will jump all over you- sadly. A good friend, dog, nutrition, exercise, fun in the sun, goals, hope, dreams is a great remedy. Not cure- don't like that word. Cure what? You are living an interesting life. If you are rich, they call you eccentric.
My father was admitted for ECT for alcoholism and 3 days after they let him out in 1972....he shot himself..i lost my father due to this. He was a medical doctor at the mental hospital where he was admitted ....while drunk...coerced by a fellow doctor and my mother. He begged to be let out for 3 weeks ....to no avail. By the end he had been fired from his job and he said he didnt remember how to be a doctor.
I am almost 22 years old and have done ECT actually a couple years ago. It has affected my memory greatly and I do have a lengthy medication history, like Jill did. I had to leave my old psychiatrist because of malpractice, he actually physically did my ECT, was my psych in all 3/4 inpatient stays--- and outpatient psychiatrist for years, and prescribed me every med on the shelf (and off). Now i am in the process of tapering/withdrawing off powerful psych/non-psych meds and my cognition and general BRAIN and BODY will never be the same i believe. It's unfortunate when doctors i talk to now, when I talk to them about this, have a very sad expression. Before this, when the meds were piling up, and I would be at my primary care, it was always shocking even to me to list out all my meds, at my age (even as a psych student myself, who's been in and out of the system). Just wanted to share a bit. But the system has shown me everything under the sun.
I had ECT in a very big hospital I worked at in Massachusetts. It was 13 years ago when I was 57 years old. I was so desperate. My depression started during menopause. I took and still take anti depressants. They are not helping so I have decided to wean down as I am 68 years old and still can't get out of my comfort zone. In my bedroom. I was told during a few sessions that I had treatment resistant depression and they were going to add Ketamine in the anesthesia. Well that put me over the edge and I sobbed uncontrollably for hours so they sectioned me to the psyche ward. I think they gave me too much ketamine. I have never correlated the ECT to my current chronic fatigue and lack of joy and happiness. I tried TMS which gave me vertigo as they turned up the amps. I am so ashamed because I have become the exact opposite of my old self before menopause. I was a nurse, and religious ed teacher and great sense of humor. I am thinking of trying vagus nerve therapy or ultraviolet lights or bio feedback loop and CBD oil.
If I was struggling that hard and the doctor asked me if my life was worth remembering anyway the next thing he would remember was waking up on the floor.
Wow. So glad you are well now. Your story is very similar to mine except I didn't have ECT. It's tough being treated like you are less than human. all the best.
I appreciate you doing the interview, it's very interesting. I felt like you maybe interrupted her at times, when she was talking about something interesting, but maybe it's just me. Great video either way. Thank you for advocating for people harmed by psychiatry!
Again my husband underwent ECT for treatment resistant depressions. After the first series in 1997 he was depression free for 17 years on no meds. My husband was treated with dignity and kindness. I was there waiting so he had huge support.
O my God…I feel so guilty. 30 years ago I have been engaged in doing anaesthesia to do ECT in the psychiatric clinic at the university complex I worked at that time. I myself had a depression , was in therapy at a clinic for several weeks. After being back working I started again at ECT therapy. I was unable to do this anymore . I didn’t know better.Jill is a very determined woman, awesome. I am weaning from an antidepressant ( Sertralin, a so- called harmless drug, no big deal as I was told) .I slow down very slow and far smaller steps while heading towards the end of this journey. These withdrawal symptoms aren’t acknowledged by so many psychiatrists. They tell me it’s impossible what I tell them is happening to me while withdrawing. Most colleagues dislike when I try to school them. I had a bad experience with one female colleague. I decided to withdraw continually on my own . Some wonder why it takes sooo long. It’s different from one person to another . It also depends on how to grow resilient while being brought up. Some overcome the most awful childhood but seemingly aren’t so affected as others by what happened to them . I learned so much in the 8 months up til now. I wished I had learned this earlier in life. I know now my diagnosis should have been cPTSD. I won’t take antidepressants again once I got rid of mine . This idea there is a serotonin imbalance in a person’s brain dealing with depression is not proven. I have never been suicidal. I can say it’s really a crime to treat withdrawal side effects with additional other psychotropic drugs to soothe these . The “ bartender” isn’t aware what she or he is doing in a person‘s brain, set aside there are dysregulations all over body functions.
Seems a very nice lady and far more normal than most. She is a victim of drug pushers. She needed talk therapy, nutritional counseling and exercise- for sure. That would have helped her so much more. I study nutrition and health and read books on psychiatry. I know what I am talking about. Doctors need you sick and on pills. Once you take one pill, they got you in their snare.
I had 80 in a year.. that I know of. Could have been more. Not sure. My life since has been infinitely more horrific than ALL my traumas combined. My children lost their mother. That’s me. I’m still right here but I’m nowhere near the mother, or even more basically, I’m no longer the human I was. Lost all autobiographical memory. Too painful to type any more. I miss ME SOOOOO MUCH. People liked that me. I liked that me. I feel like I’m not real.
I'm so sorry to hear about your situation and praying for you to find your old self again!🙏❤️ As I had just started my career as a psychiatric nurse, I was participating in taking a patient to ECT. I remember it felt scary and I was worried about the safety, but I just wanted to believe when they told it's "safe and effictive". I'm now happy I left my career in nursing and sorry for participating in any of that unethical stuff. I wanted to help people but I don't think it is even possible in that setting.😢🙏 @@HannahRavencraft
what a shitty doc! In the forties Dr. Ewen Cameron came to Canada and gave ECTS to helpless civilians (not commonly known he did same to veterans); They were meant to be given with a muscle relaxant and an anaesthetic; if not they were agonizing; bones ripped out of joint. There are lawsuits to this day by the families of his victims abused in the 1940s. All best to your guest; sorry you went through all you have and not being believed adds to the injury. As to meds my late partner had a lot of trouble with them.
The Dr. Ewen Cameron saga is even more horrific than you described. He was secretly being paid by the CIA under the infamous MKULTRA "mind control" program and he was attempting to erase people's entire personalities and pasts in order to create a new personality. Besides extreme ECT (well beyond what was considered acceptable in the 1960s), there was also forced drugging with LSD and something called "psychic driving" where he played tape loops of recordings of the victim saying things about themselves through headphones while the victims were drugged into unconsciousness. Many victims lost their *entire* memory and had to relearn how to control their bowels, eat, etc., but Cameron wasn't able to mold his victims by creating new personas as was his evil plan.
My experience with psychiatry is that the paradigm is completely centred on drugs. And the drugs cause more problems than they solve. In my opinion, depression and anxiety are a sane response to the world. It is an existential problem, not a chemical imbalance.
I had ECT in Michigan at two separate hospitals then moved to Florida had ECT again. So I had 40 to 60. And none of them were my choice. All I needed was something for sleep and a antidepressant but no had ECT to many times I can't sit down to learn a course in college and write stories like I used to. Why
Explaining symptoms at 15.00 - that is heartbreak. Heartbreak is real, its physical not just psychological. So many people have no idea what it is because they never experienced it.
Biggest problem with meds is when it comes to ptsd they are only bandeting the problem not fixing it. Also the side effect might sometimes not be forth the risk.
I suspect that Dr Josef's channel might be targeted and algorithms lowered as it would have more subscribers and viewers otherwise, please share more to help
I’m still getting through the beginning of the video but I wanted to say, even if she HAD mentioned wanting to take her life, that is no reason to detain someone against their will and force electroshock “therapy” onto them. Just despicable. Whatever happened to the right to die and bodily autonomy? Disturbing.
My entire life is gone. Can’t remember years after I had it either. Only recent time. It’s hard to read and I can’t spell with a pencil. I graduated from high school 50 times in two years while I had akathesia. They kept giving me more and more antipsychotics and brought it out more and more making me go back. I have akathesia again from benzo I did not know what akathesia was ubtil the benzo the first time was caused by anti depressants but I blamed lsd because it happened during a trip
When I was going through a serious depression, back in the day, I was given ECT 4 treatments, of which I don’t think did anything but terrify me. I wouldn’t recommend it. I didn’t however, suffer any side effects. I have a memory that goes back to when I was hospitalized with meningitis at the age of 4. Fun for the people giving them though, I’ll bet.
My psychiatrist mother who drugged me with psych meds seroquel, zoloft, fluoxetine, escitalopram, ativan, klonopin, gabapentin, trazadone ,adderall wanted to do ect on me when I barely turned 18 and told me that it was very effective etc.
@@taperclinicMedicare/Medicaid reimbursement for ECT soon increasing by 70%. Huge incentive for shock docs & hospitals to increase the number of human beings they shock & force-shock (and thus disable & traumatize).
Zero meds, but quite interesting. Mics can be directional, so that speaking at an angle may be prohibiting the sound waves entering in the form required for this equipment to have proper sound quality. I believe there is a phenomenon of invalidism that attracts some people.
I agree. I love this doc and these interviews but the interruptions on this one were a lot. I think he gets overly excited but he needs to reign it in a bit.
memory loss is a well-known adverse effect in electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), acknowledged in every psychiatric discussion about informed consent. Despite its unpleasantness, considering the severe outcomes of treatment-resistant depression, it is generally deemed a reasonable compromise for most individuals.
"Unpleasantness"??? Doctors may view loss of important life memories, abilities, education, career, & identity as merely a nuisance & an acceptable trade off. This attittude shows how little they value their patients. They view & treat them as worthless sub-humans. The fact is many patients don't find this acceptable, but instead, life-destroying. Worse than the "symptoms"/side effects of living & being human that doctors attempt to obliterate...along with their patient's humanity.
If you watched the whole video and still have that view...Wow. Sad. By the way, ECT can & does worsen the emotional state of many people Especially when they realize what was ripped from them by doctors wielding electrical assault devices, and that they now must navigate life disabled with an unacknowledged brain injury. For those who experience/perceive the acute effects of ECT brain injury (docility, forgetting why you're depressed) as 'beneficial', these effects are short-lived (often not much past the end of "treatment.") Most people relapse within months. (See meta-analyses by Dr. John Read. There is no evidence that ECT is safe or effective. It's unconscionable that psychiatrists continue to use some of the most poorly designed studies in medical research to justify their use of ECT...a practice deemed TORTURE by the UN & WHO. Many patients do indeed experience ECT as torture & a form of rape ("mind-rape," soul-rape")...yet doctors carry on in a delusion that they're helping people. Hopefully, the ECT lawsuits occuring throughout the world will bring an end to this 85-year crime against humanity. Shock docs will be on the wrong side of history--the wall of shame & derision. Rightfully so. I feel absolutely no empathy for them. They deserve all legal & social repercussions they receive for abusing their power & position as doctors to inflict horrific injuries & trauma on to hurting humans & claiming its "care" then evading all liability & responsibility by blaming patients & non-existent "Chemical Imbalances." Millions of human souls have been destroyed by ECT since it was first inflicted on a homeless man after Cerletti & Bini killed a bunch of animals with it. Of note: ECT devices are NOT FDA approved. Not surprising since they determined, after an extensive review of the literature, that the safety & efficacy of ECT has not been established. FDA didn't require ECT device manufacturers to conduct clinical trials. Somatics, the only US manufacturer of shock devices left (after MECTA went bankrupt due to a vast number of pending lawsuits for brain-damage), merely shocked a couple of Dalmatians a few times & claimed it's safe for humans because the dogs still wagged their tails. And, in recent ECT litigation, Somatics stated patient safety is not their job or concern--only to produce a machine that causes seizures. The fact that the FDA & psychiatrists hold such disregard for the health & safety of psych patients...and for research & ethics...is unconscionable.
By the way...ECT memory loss is downplayed in consent. Doctors claim its usually temporary & confined to the treatment period & that severe memory loss is rare. This is blatantly untrue. Patient experience & research shows that persistent/permanent memory loss & memory/cognitive dysfunction occur in up to 70% of ECT recipients. This is an unacceptable amount of collateral damage.
It's quite odd that doctors think it's their place to decide what is an "acceptable" risk/loss/injury from a treatment when they are not the person who lives with it. As a reminder, since doctors do not provide honest & comprehensive information about ECT adverse effects & risks (for instance, stating/implying that a very common adverse effect is exceedingly rare, or that it is short-lived/temporary when it may be chronic/permanent), patients are not actually giving informed consent. They are "consenting" under false pretenses/misinformation. Their consent is therefore not valid under contract laws and consent laws. For example, a patient cannot make an informed decision if they don’t know have a percentage about a risk. Someone might choose to undergo a procedure for which there is 0.5% chance of the adverse effect occurring vs a 50% risk. But, if doctors aren't providing some sort of measure (or are providing an dishonest/inaccurate info) patients can't make an informed choice. **Please note, many patients are denied the right to make choices about risks/benefits via court-ordered shock. Likewise, any consent given under duress, threats, & coercion (very common in psych "care" & ECT) is not valid per contract and consent law. Additionally, when doctors administer treatment without valid consent, it qualifies as medical assault/battery. NO MEANS NO. Pychiatrists are unable to grasp that.
Bro they violated me and i ended up in the psych ward. I thought i was in a coma. I still dont know what happened. Then they erased my memory with this ect shit
According to Google: "Extensive research has found ECT to be highly effective for the relief of major depression. Clinical evidence indicates that for individuals with uncomplicated, but severe major depression, ECT will produce substantial improvement in approximately 80 percent of patients."
I know this woman. She knows that very very few attorneys will take a case against psychiatrists for any sort of OVER-treatment. The only lawsuits won against psychiatrists are for UNDERtreatment for people who’ve died by their own hand. No one wins against ECT.
Holy smoke; they were supposed to be administered with a muscle relaxant and an anaesthetic; what you describe sounds barbaric.

I'm astounded at how well Jill seems after getting off several meds. She doesn't seem to have a lot of withdrawal issues. I'm still reeling from rapidly tapering off of three meds over 2 1/2 years ago.

@user-py2nz4qx8f I'm on probation for trying mushrooms to help with my mental health. Long story.
@@elizabethAbbott-q6mthere are more natural ways. Lots. They just don’t make profits for anyone but the patients.

Good luck Jill. Thanks for sharing your story. You have tremendous courage and remarkable tenacity. Basically you are an amazing person.
Same here. I had testing. At a neurologist office. They blamed it all on depression and advised me to see a psychiatrist!!
Lithium and Latuda had that effect on me.
I was the same way until
I went through healing my sick body with a functional doctor- I was on an exorbitant amount of big pharma drugs for 30yrs.
Psychiatry is used as a weapon by the state , they are doing the same thing they did in the Soviet Union.
I became psychotic and manic while on antidepressants the psychiatrist told me to shut up and take it anyways
I am writing a book about my psych career and it residual side effects.........125 plus ECT's! Blessings to this lady.......unreal what they do to us.
Cure what? My late father had ECT treatments in the 1950s and was left with "scars" on his brain.
Thank you for sharing the video! I really like this lady. Poor thing she’s been through a lot.
Wow, I want to look so young when I will be 47. Thank you for your story!
Dr. Joseph, please let your guest know that I am on board to contribute all I can to out law this in humane rotten machine!!!!

Thank you Jill for sharing your testimony. This information is so important for people to be made aware of.
If I was struggling that hard and the doctor asked me if my life was worth remembering anyway the next thing he would remember was waking up on the floor.
I've had 8 ECT treatments in 30 days. Don't remember much but totally forgot I was depressed.
Do you still experience depression?

Again my husband underwent ECT for treatment resistant depressions. After the first series in 1997 he was depression free for 17 years on no meds. My husband was treated with dignity and kindness. I was there waiting so he had huge support.
Glad your husband has good results.
Many do not including a family member of mine.😢
My stupid ssa “psychiatrist” referred me to shock therapy. She’s the reason my brain is f**** up now and has been the passed 24 months.
More about antipsychotics please.Thank you so much
O my God…I feel so guilty.
I had 11 ECT sessions in 2019-2020. I have a BA and many years office and accounting experience. But my brain is gone.
I had 50. I can only remember recent time and I’m absolutely not there
We're fucked dawg

How can we not have anxiety everyday if the World is evil. There is no justice.

I can’t believe they still do this. Technically this process is brain damage. I bet the still use ice picks to the dome
memory loss is a well-known adverse effect in electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), acknowledged in every psychiatric discussion about informed consent.
They deserve all legal & social repercussions they receive for abusing their power & position as doctors to inflict horrific injuries & trauma on to hurting humans & claiming its "care" then evading all liability & responsibility by blaming patients & non-existent "Chemical Imbalances."
Millions of human souls have been destroyed by ECT since it was first inflicted on a homeless man after Cerletti & Bini killed a bunch of animals with it.
