That was so fun to watch as I currently am growing a Dean McDowell as well. Mine started very small and was putting out amazing leaves and we had a crash caused by a cat and really messed up everything. Now we are on leaf two and in a much safer place. 😊
My Mcdowell is my baby. As soon as I put it in a trough planter, each new leaf is bigger than the other. It's also my easiest to care for plant. All around a joy to have!
I’m so in love with mine’s especially for the last 3 months. She’s getting so big and the leaves are sizing up like crazy. I’m super proud of her she survived spider mites. I cannot wait for mines to look ya like yours. You inspired me last year to buy one. It’s funny because I was thinking of putting mine on moss pole because she’s growing straight up Thank you so much for sharing your beauty with us.
Great video- love that you really go back through your archives and show the whole story. What did you say about Star Trek? And do you always use the wicks in the self-watering pots? Thank you, Kevin. Psyched I came across your channel.
Like yours, I bought it as a pastazanum only to realize it was a McDowell. She was doing great and I put her outside for the summer, she really crawled so I chopped it and had 2 amazing plants, kind of neglected the other chonks. Anyhoo, gave a beautiful cutting to my daughter about 2 weeks ago and she forgot about it and left it in her car, it froze😢. I was so mad at her.
I was gifted this beauty super early in my plant journey and killed it 😭😭😭 one year later the same person gifted me a lynamii and it’s grown a new leaf so far ^_^ would love to see it if you have one! I’m still such a newbie
Hey Kevin, watched the vid with you and Nora....laughed all night. Who started with LECA first you or Nora? You crack me up! Gorgeous Dean McDowell (unfortunately a plant I will never own cos I don't have the space) you must be so proud! You've given me impetus to put my Mamei/Silver Cloud on a moss pole purely because I won't have the room for it to crawl too far in my house. Maybe I'll wait until she grows a bit more and take a cutting first 🤔 Anyway, thanks for the info on the different growing methods & substrates 👍🏼
I have two Dean McDowells and they are both doing not so great ;/ First one nearly died to insect invasion but I am trying to save him as there is just a node left. And second one decided to give me a leaf inside the pocket but the pocket didn't open ;/ It nearly died. I am a bit fed up with this plant. Do you have any sugestions on strawberry shake? I bough a two leaf plant with a 3one coming, but it came out and don't want to bloom properly ;/ it's in the light, under the lamp, watered properly (check with higrometer) :( can it be that it's winter and somehow they decided to do things oddly? :P
My dean mcdowell for some reason does. Not stick to the soil the node. Continues to grow upwards rather than crawl... the grow light does come from above. Does anyone know why this is?? He's so beautiful but frustrating lol
KEVIN!!!!! My hubby bought me a THAI!!! Now lets hope I don't kill it! 😉🎄🎁
you're the reason i have my mcdowell i absolutely love it 💚i got it during the summer and its grown so well since then. 😊

As usual ur plants look amazing. I think this may be the easiest plant that checks all the boxes I desire as a plant parent!

Hi Kevin, her growth journey has been amazing, CONGRATULATIONS!! P.S., saw you in Leca Queen! Great interview. 😍😍😍
I think the long petiole is really just how the plant is. My Mcdowell is two years old and they’re 2-3 feet high lol
