You have the BEST home improvement channel. I can’t thank you enough! I’m a 32 y.o. woman who bought a beautiful 102 year old Victorian. I knew NOTHING before your channel. Thank you so much for what you do.
Wow, thank you!
Your channel was my go-to for years while I renovated our 1950s ranch house that had NEVER been updated. Not only is the education fantastic, the sound, lighting, and video are great, too, and getting better all the time.
I was a Frogger man myself. Loved that game.
My wife and I are working on finishing our modular home (horrible timing as far as prices go, but this is a dream years in the making). This video couldn’t have come at a better time for us though as we have the fireplace to finish but don’t know how. Your videos are extremely helpful and give me the confidence to try new things I can do but didn’t have the know how to get started. Thanks for all the videos and advice!
OMG I just literally finished my shiplap wall and was wondering "Hey when's Jeff going to post a video on this?!" I always look forward to your advice, tips and tricks!
Thank you so much for your DIY videos. I am grateful for the way you explain the little details of what you're doing. Most people doing these video's don't.
I especially appreciate the video you did on drywall joint taping. It has been a game changer for me. I never understood the reason for the tapered ends of the sheets. I have been struggling thru this task for years. My latest hallway project at my house was a piece of cake following your instructions. The joints look amazing and so much less mud and time. I know where they are and still cannot see the joints. Thank you so much.
No one smiles and enjoys talking about every little detail for the benefit of the DIYer like you do! Thank you for all that you show us how to do, and from the one person, two hands perspective. ❤
Hey Jeff I just want to say I have been watching you for couple of years maybe and I just appreciate how much clarity and technical knowledge you bring to your youtube platform through your construction expertise. Top notch work.👍🏻
I appreciate that!
Thanks for these videos. Especially your subfloor series. Gave me the confidence to take on a shed build a few years ago. Then a major bath remodel this year. Both turned out great! A huge part of the success is thanks to you! THANK YOU for the great content!!!
Glad to help
I'm not a professional carpenter by any means. I am however a professional home owner now that I've watched so many of your vids. Your tips and tricks have really helped me along the way. Thank you!
I love the simplicity of the project and how great it looks in your living room. Time to plan a similar project for our great room with an electric fireplace insert. Thanks!
Your extremely knowledgeable in your field of expertise!!!!
my goodness Jeff that really looks sharp, when i saw the thumbnail notification i thought it was a new movie coming out..big budget & celebs to match. its clean & flawless.
This guy never disapoints 🫡
Woot Woot. I've got my cuppa ready. I'd love a fireplace for our home. So chic 😎
My husband and I were just talking about how to build one for our old farmhouse earlier today. Perfect timing! Thank you for walking us through the process.
Cheers Miranda!
I am so glade to see someone showing how to do it properly.
thank you so much for keeping it real and not selling out
Great detail. My contractor will be doing this. So good to understand the process.
Funny enough I am doing this exact project and was not sure what to charge and this video appeared! perfect time and thanks for showing how simple it can be!
Great video and project! Love that this is affordable and a project to add home value, thanks!
I love shiplap! This turned out beautiful!! And not even difficult. Hope Michelle is feeling better. And Happy Father's Day, Jeff!
Thank you Sandy
She is!
Greatest value to my life since Sunday service. Thank you sir 🙏🏼
Wow, thank you
Great Build !!! Growing up Galaga was my favourite game to play with my dad .
Best explanation very well detailed thank you so much!!! :)
I enjoy watching these videos more than watching TV😄
Great build with tons of helpful hints as always thank you for all that you do.
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great basic project that you made seem so simple. I really like that look.
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks amazing
Jeff you earned a new subscriber and fan today. Your honest approach gives me confidence that I can do it myself. Thanks for the content 🍻
Thank you for the very helpful tutorial !
Awesome project Jeff! Thank you! Pleeaaase add a video or give advice on connecting this to an existing chimney coming from an old wood fireplace in the basement. What was yours? Cheers!
My wife and I enjoy your videos; we have well aligned French doors, and soon we’ll have Alside Ascend insulated siding thanks to you. One question for you --
What color are the walls painted in this video? Blueish steel blue? We want it in our laundry room!
The only critic I have for you Jeff, is we need more videos of you!!! 😂 I’m addicted what can I say 🤷🏻♂️
I have to say an excellent job, as always, so many good tips too , thanks for sharing from Garry in the UK
Happy Father's Day Jeff !!!
Lovely
Hey Jeff, I love your videos, always helpful and entertaining. I’ve been searching for info on window installation and how to tie a new water diversion system into an already sided house. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏
Great looking project!
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi Jeff, great video. Does the gas fireplace requires some clearance in the front before putting shiplap panels? Thanks for your help!
Hi, love the corner trim work. May I ask what we’re the measurements you split the board into to make corner pieces? Thank you.
I want to out in an electric fireplace w TV over like this. I will be covering a 2nd (unnecessary) door to a bedroom off the LR. I love it!
Hey Jeff! Great stuff! You provide an excellent source of info for us DIY’ers! Question, what putty are you using to fill those nail holes?
Hello Jeff. I am going to repaint my mobile home this summer. Can you advise what I need to do to prepare for painting (how to clean - pressure washer or ...?) Thank you Jeff.
Great great video. Happy Fathers Day and enjoy.
Thank you! You too! Cheers Larry!
Always a great job! Awesome job!
Cheers Marian!
Hi Jeff, awesome looking fireplace!
I’m going to be installing a shiplap accent wall in my bathroom. My question is, what’s the best way to paint shiplap?
Would you advise using a sprayer or rolling with like a small 1/4” roller?
Also, can shiplap be installed using only liquid nail (I.e. without actually nailing into studs?)
Much appreciated and thanks for everything you do!
I am doing a similar project in my living room. My house was built in 1930. I have had the mantle torn out and it used to be a fire place that was closed with concrete. At this point considering what you said about the fire place and the tv, should I recess it into the wall or build a box like you did?
That ending made me giggle a bit. 🎮🕹 Never thought Jeff would be an old school gamer! 😎🤙
Cheers! I had 2 brothers. some things just stick.
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY awesome! I honestly can see you becoming the most famous DIY channel on UA-cam! More than you already are! 😃🤙
Jeff- first of all- you rock. great information etc. You made a video about you starting a buyers group. I now can not locate that. Are you no longer starting a buyers group? If you are I'd like to get active in your group. LMK- thanks for the quality videos.
That's pretty cool.
Cheers!
I'd really like a video tour of your new/old farmhouse.
This is good stuff dude. I have a fire place with slate square stone that we hate. This would look awesome. The MDF is heat resistant? That miter joint trick is great.
Hi! This project is really helpful. I am wondering why in your project you are not concerned about how close your trim and shiplap are to your heating source. Did you do something that allows you to eliminate any concerns about combustion? Thanks!
Thanks for the great video. I'm thinking I want one of these for our fireplace but it's woodburning.
Your work turned out beautifully.
mine too came original with the house... 1915 red clay brick that can be found in any town older than 1910 in north america and the UK..... THEN in about 1935 Mrs. Carrinder wanted a huge brick fireplace so it got enlarged to 7ft wide 5ft tall with a 4ft by 3ft fire box... huge granite mantle piece.... and it's cracking on the outside... this may not be cheap to fix
Hi Jim, if you use porcelain tile as a face around the fireplace with metal studs and cement board you can get a very similar look. you just need to be code compliant with combustibles nearby.
I heard someone a month or so ago just mention about having a problem with a new house build about this.
The builders only put in electrical outlets next to the fireplace and there were no outlets anywhere else as they didn't want the tv over the fireplace.
They had a previous house like that and the tv went out after a month or so due to the heat causing damage to the tv.
I'm thinking that was in 1 of your videos but not sure exactly where I heard it.
This was great!!
Cheers Jayme
Perfect every time, Money in the bank
Hi Jeff love your work and detailed videos. Wanted to know how much did this project cost you for materials.
Your the best!!
Jeff can you make a series on leveling floors, I am working on a flip that has a newly framed room combing parts of 3 old
Rooms with 3 different floor heights. I assume shimming and sheathing is my best approach but I wouldn’t mind seeing how you would do it. I am using what I have learned from your channel during this flip. Feel free to stop by my channel to see my progress or to make suggestions. WV Renovation. Thanks
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks great fellas!
Thank you! Cheers!
Jeff for quick mail framing smaller projects using 2x4 studs what size nails would I use for nail gun. I found regular framing nails often split the wood? Will be finished off with nicer finish nails when I skin the project.
i use 3 1/4 " and start further from the end and nail on an angle
About to do this and was hoping you had a video! A lot of hack DIY vids out there. Have a recessed gas tile surround fireplace and the tile above the center gets pretty hot. Any concern with shiplap there or suggestions?
Jeff…. Wanting to put shiplap up on a metal studded/ drywall covered wall. The shiplap is the mdf type, as I’m looking for the clean/ smooth look. Researching basically finds 2 camps ….. trim screws or using an air nailer and adhesive … some say brads, some say finish…help me out… I only want to do this once!!
Looks great. Really . modern and rustic. When i have 5000 dollars for wood, i build something like it.
It's mdf and only cost a few hundred.
That man is playing Galaga! Thought we wouldn't notice, but we did.
Nice wood watch! How do keep that thing looking clean with all the dust?? lol Love your channel!
My husband and I recently looked at making barn doors out of mdf for our barn door business! But it’s pretty weak as a structural component. Was that “floppiness” of mdf an issue during this project?
Nice watch. Wooden AP Royal Oak
38:21 or you could pre drill those holes and use a proper socket so you don't strip the head off like you did with your impact ;) In my experience (about 20 tv mounts) most of those screw heads are a pozi heads which are like a Philips and a Robertson combined so you have less cam out
I agree with drilling pilot holes. It prevents breaking up the MDF board like that. I always buy my own Spax lag screws with the T-star washer head like I did when I mounted all my 70" TVs in my house. I've never liked those giant lag screws that come with the tv mounts.
I still play Galaga. Love it still
Love your channel, hope you Canadians are doing ok under Trudeau!
We have survived many storms up here.
Have a qst, I was putting up barnwood and taking down the bead board and there's osb behind it, what should i do? Sheetrock?
Jeff, I hope you see this. If I have carpet, do I have to remove a remnant for framing if I’m attaching the framing to the ceiling, wall and flanking bookcases? If I ever remove the fireplace, I’d hate to have a hole in the carpet but I do want to do what’s best.
Great question. I would suggest you see the fireplace as a 50 year fixture. remove the carpet so you can attach the framing. if you don't the screw can grab the fibers and make a run right across then room. Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Thank you so very much Jeff and the visual of a run in the carpet was hilarious!! 🤣
learned that one from experience. Cheers!
When installing shiplap should you start at the bottom or top?
Hi Jeff, do you have a video on how to install an electric LCD fireplace?
I liked this video
Great job! Lumber prices in Australia are in short supply too. What’s going on? Strange times indeed.
Hi Jeff,
Do you happen to have an example of a fireplace insert installed inside the wall? We can’t build out because there is a vent fairly close to our wall. Thank you
Will you add a mantel shelf? I want a fireplace Reno like this but I want a shelf. Will you do an update video with a mantel?
This is my meditation channel:)
What does “zero clearance for combustibles ” mean? We’re doing a shiplap fireplace and removing the prefab mantle and tile surround of our current gas fireplace in our new 2022 home. Trying to see if we can take the shiplap all the way up to the fireplace or if that will violate code ?
Galaga yes!
Right!
Handysome
What is the best way to cover or fill the cove joint between a basement floor and walls? Any simple fix? We are not very handy.
That's a fantastic way the finish a fireplace. Could you do that with a wood burning fireplace?
with wood you need a little more clearance to combustibles.
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY makes sense. Thanks!
What kind of bits do you use for your impact?
On the mdf prefinish if someone would like to change the color somewhere down the road, could it be painted?
Shouldn't there be non-combustible material above the opening of the fireplace? Loved this video as I'm looking to do a very similar build for my fireplace. It's just my installation instructions for the fireplace box talk about non-combustible material X-amount of inches.
Same question as Stu. How can combustible MDF be allowed that close on the top?
What was the pink goo that was used for the nail holes? I usually use caulk but it never quite fills the holes.......
There are tv's that don't have to be hard wired to your cable now? What does one do about wiring for using old dvd players or surround sound? Guessing just run them same time as you run the electrical wiring, yes?
That was my initial thought. There are TVs now where one cable connects to a box. The box has all the connections (power, cables, etc).
Awesome video! I don’t have a laser level but have been looking at them but, there are so many different models and brands. Which laser level do you recommend for a DIY’er /handyman?
i like the basic crossline from dewalt.
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY thank you! I’ll definitely check it out!
I have been thinking about building a fireplace with cement board for my wood burning stove and make it look like this.
Me too!
Can you do a video on how to fix thermal heat transfer please?
What size wood did you use for the frame and what size shiplap
Hey Jeff, I painted my shiplaps that semi-gloss looks horrible with orange peel texture. I want to repaint it, should I just paint over or remove the old paint first?
Get what you get... Lowes was out of the normal 2 gang boxes... had to spend an extra $2 on the "heavy Duty"... they were out of most rocker panel light switches.. had to use the cheapo toggle switches
gotta love renovating this year eh Cliff. Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY I have moved my remodel project as two less remodel as needed. The back bathroom here the drain fell off of the shower so rather than $15 to fix it I’m going to do a down and dirty remodel of the bathroom. I was going to put new drain lines in but not now because it’s still hard to find plumbing parts. The few I’ve had to get I’ve had to hunt for or stock with has been low at Lowe’s. So rather than move like the toilet so it fits in the room a little better along with the tub shower combo and vanity. I can’t really comment on the cost of raw materials as I’ve had plenty of extra two by force does sitting out back and a pile of sheet rock still
Is he still doing the buyers club program? I’m going to be purchasing my first house in like a week and was going to show my wife the video about it to convince her to join and now I can’t find the videos about it. Or any info.
Same here??? I came here to see if anyone else noticed this. Any video mentioning it, is gone.
