Hi great video. I'm installing mine and I need to level it and bring it slightly forward, it's leaning back a little about 1.5 inches. Is it safe to use wood wedges/shims or to bring it forward.
Great video, wish I saw this a month ago. I have been looking for a way to add 5’ of additional flex tube to my current piece of 8’. Do you guys sell 4.5/7.5 z-flex?
Does a gas fireplace need to be incased with metal behind it or is wood okay? i see it looks like you guys incased it with regular wood framing and insulation.
IMPORTANT QUESTION: I have a new finished home without a fireplace. obviously the fireplace company I will call will have to destroy part of the wall to make holes. Will I need to wall other construction workers to fix the wall after that? Or does the fireplace company take care of all the damage needed to install the fireplace? And one final question: can a gas fireplace be installed at any exterior wall, or are there any conditions?
Maybe you might be able to help me. Just have a gas fireplace installed vent pipe is condensating dripping water what’s causing it? Spray formed home tight.
I have similar fireplace.i notice cildvair draft coming from it.builder says it's common in direct vent.is it so? I notice a hole left unclosed on the bottom and also the gas line hole is not properly sealed. What can I use to seal around the pipe.
I dont believe gastite/flashshield is supposed to enter any appliance. Should it not be hard piped with a dirt pocket before the flex is hooked up? Might just be the code here in Canada.
Your video was very informative. I bought a ventless gas heater, and I was wondering do you have to put cement board around the fireplace or just drywall... I'm not tiling around the fireplace.
Many thanks! I'm building my enclosure for a GS36 now and was doing some due diligence and found this video - to see you installing the same exact model is amazing. I'll be rear venting through an exterior wall with vinyl - any thoughts on the best vinyl shield? Everything keeps pointing towards a DuraVent Product - thoughts? Also - I had black pipe installed and run directly to the center rear of my bay, now that I see the gas inlet is on the side I guess I just run flex around to the inlet and allow for a deeper enclosure, part of me wonders if the heat generated in the enclosure is a consideration vs. the durability of the flex line?
Can this be done after the house is handed over to us once it's finished by builder? They will rough in the gas line and the PowerPoint. Can I purchase the fireplace after handover and install it or is this going to be impossible? Please advise as they won't let us do anything if we're not doing it through them... Truth is if we were to do it through them, it would be too expensive 😏 Thanks
Nice job on the video. Right to the point. I am surprised that you don't have more views. This was the best video I found in regards to setup. Thank you
1 question though at 1:32 in your video you say to reinstall the insulation on the back. The installation manual says (pg24) to discard that insulation. Please advise
How come you do not have any fireproofing around the wood? I heard you have to have 4 inches of clearance around insert. Fireproofing is costing me hundreds of dollars around an existing old wood burning fireplace.
I have a two-sided-view Napoleon zero clearance fireplace box installed on cement floor. It has flex pipe and I want to lift it a couple of inches and allow for flooring so the bottom access grill can still be opened. Does a full sheet of OSB or plywood need to be slid underneath or could 2 “ bricks only be placed flush under the perimeter of the box? Would anything go wrong with the flex pipe if this is carefully done?
Those in the video are aluminum hoses, they seem to be 4" and maybe 6", but there are rigid ducts that are galvanized steel. They are not stainless steel.
B36 uses a 4"/7" pipe. Larger fireplaces by Napoleon will use a 5"/8". Interior pipe is the hot exhaust, exterior is the intake. Napoleon makes those kits for their fireplaces. There are lots of online dealers that sell them. Currently run around $350 or so for a basic kit with 5' of pipe and an exterior exhaust.
Can I vent the fireplace up through the roof of a house? I'm wanting to put a fireplace on an interior wall of a rambler style house with a vaulted ceiling.
You bet! That actually goes for both the stones and the switch. As long as the new switch is recommended by the manufacturer you shouldn't have an issue trading them out.
I would have someone come out and take a look at it. It's possible you could have some build-up somewhere but we would have to come out and troubleshoot to know what is going on.
Please respond 🤞: my direct vent fireplace has such a huge pilot light, that makes such a loud noise, but when I turn it down to a quiet volume using the red handle, as soon as I turn the fireplace on, the pilot light dies.... Any ideas?
Rookies, you connect gas and electrical before vent and final set to test fire, you can not pass c.s.s.t. thru the fireplace body. It must be sleved or you must use a termination fitting
Actually as a fireplace Installer myself , you actually do vent rhe unit before you gas and wire it!! Otherwise gas can be opened up with no where to get outside rhe building and it must be secured so but to rhe installers top notch!!
Nice logic buddy. its too much effort to install a gas fireplace which you wont have to do anything else again after its installed, but you’ll keep chopping firewood for the rest of your life, this is some next level genius at work
what if i have a fireplace installed with a gas line already but no electric ignition or anything like that? I just got a home with the piping (gas) and venting already taken care of but the owners didn't have the gas logs or wiring setup. How big of a job is that? Can i do it myself or should i call a professional? Also do i need a switch like at 4:47 or can I just light the gas with a standard lighter?
We don't recommend lighting the unit with a lighter or rigging anything up to the unit that has not been tested. The unit should come with some sort of ignition. The rest really depends on the brand of your unit. If it is a brand that we work with we would be happy to assist you further. We would just need pictures and the serial number. Our email is sales@maplemtnfireplace.com. If it is not a brand we work with we can help point you in the right direction.
We are in the process of having a contractor install a similar Gas Fireplace. I am wondering why the Cool Surface System (CSS) is not being addressed in any of these FP install videos I am searching for. Isn't CSS critical to the install of Gas Fireplaces?
I have a similar fireplace but to be more specific it is 36 x 36 by FMI gas vent. Can I remove the logs and place colorful stones in its place for a more modern look. Also I have a wall plate switch connected, can I just disconnect it from the old switch to replace the switch with a new one.
Hi Will, Great question. All units have been tested in order to be EPA certified, and not all gas fireplaces are created equal. We would recommend either going through your manual or calling the manufacturer/dealer to see what options they have for you. A lot of dealers will have ceramic rock kits for a more modern look, but a lot of rocks hold air and will pop once they are heated up which can be unsafe in an air tight gas fireplace.
I have a question I hope you, or someone on here might know the answer to. When they installed our fireplace, it was put between two windows. Problem is, it isn’t placed equally between the windows. There’s about 1” or less on one side and about 4” to the other and everything on the mantle is built centered and evenly spaced. Is there anything that would prevent me from rebuilding the mantle and moving the fireplace where it’s even between the windows for any reason? Thanks!
Hello! You would want to check your manual for framing specs and clearances first. Then you just want to check your venting, gas line, and electrical. If your venting is flex it should be pretty easy to move but if it is hard pipe you may have to call them back to uninstall it.
Depends on your jurisdiction and applicable codes ... the manuals come with specifications for clearance between the firebox and the surrounding frame/mantel, etc. For our application we're using CGC Cement Board ½" thickness with steel framing studs. Insulation is a "rock wool" for 16" OC with Steel studs (2 × 4).
I need to make a comment on your galvanized pipe yeah galvanized pipe has gotten a bad rap years ago here is in 2023 well galvanized pipe has gone through a whole new process we've upgraded a whole new zinc process galvanized will not flake off zinc coating anymore so it is now allowed to use for all gas piping I've been doing gas for 45 years and now that is all I use is galvanized pipe it does not rust out like black iron do for all you black iron gas workers galvanized pipe is allowed to use in every state I hope that clears up a lot of questions on galvanized pipe
What a hack job. I have been doing this for 26 years. If you want to know, you can pay me to tell you what they did wrong. I charge 125.00/ hour, 1 hour min.
i think the best produce in the price range. Very slick and stylish! Very easy to install ....got so many compliments
FYI, the installation manual states to discard the piece of insulation when switching from rear to top venting.
I was about to comment the exact same thing
Thank you for sharing! You guys make it look easy
This is why I do my own work.
I just bought one of these and will be installing next week. This video is very well done and will be a great help for this project.
Great! We're so glad you like it. Let us know if you have any questions.
Good heater really like it it came in with a little dent on the top but I ain't no worry about it it won't too bad
Hi great video. I'm installing mine and I need to level it and bring it slightly forward, it's leaning back a little about 1.5 inches. Is it safe to use wood wedges/shims or to bring it forward.
This video needs more views!
you guys did a great job
Great video, wish I saw this a month ago. I have been looking for a way to add 5’ of additional flex tube to my current piece of 8’. Do you guys sell 4.5/7.5 z-flex?
Thanks for informative video. Keep doing the good job guys. All the best
Great job on the video!!!!
Does a gas fireplace need to be incased with metal behind it or is wood okay? i see it looks like you guys incased it with regular wood framing and insulation.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
It'd be even BETTER if they bothered to answer some of the people's questions.
Thanks for the video. Going to be putting one in soon and this is a good start for us.

What is the main reason for draft from the bottom of these direct vent gas fireplaces? I have a heat and GLO and cold air draft is coming from bottom.
Same issue with me
It seems like there is a constant draft
Thanks a lot, guys, great video
Your video was very informative. I bought a ventless gas heater, and I was wondering do you have to put cement board around the fireplace or just drywall... I'm not tiling around the fireplace.
Thank you Connie. It's going to depend on the specific clearances of your fireplace but most likely you will need to do cement board.
I installed my Nopolion ex42. Nothing happens when I hit the switch. The control module will not beep when I push program.
Many thanks! I'm building my enclosure for a GS36 now and was doing some due diligence and found this video - to see you installing the same exact model is amazing. Don't you have to have non combustible material on the wall between fireplace and wall insulation???
I have the same question
My fire place has a constant draft
It is pretty noticeable
Great breakdown...awesome job guys..!!!

@@ManCaveMechanic We definitely would advise you to follow your manual. Thank you for pointing that out for us.
@@ManCaveMechanic Good point! You have to discard it! It's fire hazard. It'll soot, too.
How far needs to be from the back wall ??? 🤔🤔🤔

1 that I looking at has 2 vent pipes . Feeding air coming down and vent out. Going up the stack . You know what name of flex hose? Are they s/s ?
Those in the video are aluminum hoses, they seem to be 4" and maybe 6", but there are rigid ducts that are galvanized steel. They are not stainless steel.

Yes! But there is codes that need to be met
Great video!
May I ask What’s your framing dimensions?
Well done
How tf do you remove one of these dumb things?? I can’t get the rear vent pipe off and can’t fit it out my door to trash it.
Dose black iron not rust and flake???
Thank you for the follow-up on the stones. Any thoughts on the switch.
You bet! That actually goes for both the stones and the switch. As long as the new switch is recommended by the manufacturer you shouldn't have an issue trading them out.
I have a gas fire place in 6 month old house. Everytime it rains it is humid we are getting horrible musty smell. What can I do?
I would have someone come out and take a look at it. It's possible you could have some build-up somewhere but we would have to come out and troubleshoot to know what is going on.
Good job, just cash the check!

Hire a licensed gas fireplace installer/technician
How do you insulate around it?

Sounds like you have a traditional wood burning fireplace with a gas fire starter. Different from a strictly gas fireplace like these.
Question: Do these fireplaces heat up space or are they just for decoration?
They provide heat ... this particular model is 26,000 BTU with Natural Gas

Do you think I could place it on top of a wood floor?
Check your local building codes.
Did you install the Napoleon tag on the glass or the screen barrier?
Those tags are very easy to break off

May be load bearing studs that prevent you from going one way or the other.
How about the fire retardant that is installed inside and around the framing?

In a lawsuit right now. This fireplace was installed. Shortly thereafter, the condo almost burned to the ground. 1/2 million in damages.

mil pac is the high heat sealant. It's good up to something like 1000 degrees continuous.

They practically followed the installation manual from Napoleon.
