I'm 62 and I hear you! I was thinking, "Geez, all those years of making it tougher than it had to be!" (I was also remembering how we used to have to defrost the freezer!!!)
I live in blessington wish I lived next door to you would love love the chats you remind me of my mum and grandmother 4ft 11 and 5 ft respectively didnt sit down for a moment could do everything from sewing to bricklaying my granny was still doing the washing up at 95. My aunt went out when she was about 90 only to come home to her up a ladder painting the ceiling told her to get down as she was the only antique the family possessed.
I would so love to meet you and your mum. You are the most down to earth, energetic young women and your mum must be a great influence in your life. And, a beauty too. Sewing, DIY, gardening, building…so much talent. Is there anything you won’t take on? Had to smile at ‘were you born in a barn’? 😂 wish I had a tenth of your energy and drive.💗
Oh Catherine, you are such a joy! No matter what the days been you make me laugh and smile. Going to try that with the oven door looks much easier . You are a real grafter too your family must be so proud of you but def keep you grounded. Your a good girl 😘xx
@Life with Alegria I still like to have a go at things but takes me longer to complete 🤣. We decided to do a bit of decorating before Christmas which resulted in us deciding to knock out 2 walls. If nothing else I have a lovely big space for a Xmas tree 🤦♀️🤣😘
I'm from Yorkshire and if you leave the door open everyone shouts " put t' wood in th' 'ole!" meaning put he wood ( the wooden door) in the hole..as in shut the door!!
You are super awesome. You speak to the camera/audience like we are all your best friends, like there is no pretense at all from you. You are as genuine as they come; from giggling about the clean oven open twice to inspect great job done to sneezing. Thank you for sharing your life/videos. Greetings from Niagara Canada. Canadians love you to bits.
You are one more smart lady. There’s not much you can’t do. I really enjoy your channel and how down to earth and relatable you are. Much love from North Carolina, USA.
3 years ago I had a new kitchen fitted and I treated myself to a combi gas hob electric oven ( Always wanted one 😃). Me I hardly make anything in the oven as I don't eat meat but that darn oven still gets mucky...However the glass door slides out for cleaning Lord be praised! 😃. But I don't think I could ever do a Catherine the Brave and tackle removing oven doors. You're an amazing woman. God bless you everyday 🙏 🌻🐈
Love your chatty videos! Having so much fun watching all your older videos and seeing how much things change. Love how much your yard has changed that green house is so sweet and seems perfect for you❤️💐
I love how you get right in there and get dirty. Lol. I also use baking soda and vinegar quite a bit. When doing my oven I’ll take the lemons out of the fridge that are ready to go and rub the cut sides on the door. Helps break up the grease and smells amazing! Also you might like a boot scrape by your greenhouse door.
I'm delighted you are doing garden stuff rather than Christmas decorating, it's so refreshing to watch your channel 🙏 I love the rug in your room 👌great job on the oven, I cleaned mine this week, it felt like new 😊
I'm an Irish American & growing up my grandmother would always say if we didn't close the door all the way..... "What were you born in a barn? Close the door!" Never quite understood the reference or that it was an Irish thing.... I was cracking up when you were explaining it - I thought I'm 55 and only now do I understand what my gma was talking about...LOL!!! ♥♥
And we still say that but they if you say that to kids now the will say back to no I was born in the hospital with swing doors it’s funny I think all the best x
Have you thought about the no dig method for keeping weeds out of your garden beds? Becoming very popular. You put down a double layer of cardboard then compost on top to a depth of 6 inches.
I use white vinegar vinegar to descale my kettle as well, put a whole bottle in your kettle add water to maximum level, bring to the boil, leave for half an hour, discard water, refill with clean water and boil again. Repeat clean water and boil to get rid of the smell. Great results. 💖💖
Could you lay pavers (large outdoor floor tiles) on a bed of sand instead of stones ? Advantage is that pavers provide flat, stable surface (for your outdoor furniture) and easy to clean. Love the floor rug ! Hugs for Blondie. Hi from Australia xx
I listen to your videos all the time because it is just like listening to a chatty friend. I LOVE you creativity and the little Irish lilt in your voice while you chat on! You are adorable and I am surprised you are not married with children. Don't rush into that though, because I love the peacefulness of your life now. I hope you can include your mother in one of your videos soon so we can see from whence you came. XOXOXOXOXO
Lol always saying in Wales same close doors after you was you born in a barn your new rug looks really nice in bedroom sitting area your green house looks cosy with your chair n heater and sure by next year get the other side of garden done how you won't it and be a great job well take care Catherine and have a good weekend ❤️🏴
Woooow I need to try that method of cleaning the oven ..it really works..👌👌👌👌..can’t wait to so see your plans…Have a beautiful blessing 🙏evening…llave always ..💗💗💗🙋🏻♀️
You are so much fun to watch. The vinegar and soda are my choice to clean the oven. You can use that method to clean many things. It is great in the bathroom. I so love your green house. I have always wanted one but we are too old now to get involved in that. I am happy to watch you in your wonderful green house. My grandmother was such an incredible gardener, she would write to people all over the States and trade flowers seeds and starts of plants in the 40’s and 50’s all the time. Some people would say that she could grow anything even on a rock. That was a bit of an exaggeration but she was an incredible gardener. She would have loved watching your videos. Ann from Va. USA 🇺🇸
"Were you born in a barn?" was my mom's favorite statement...I think that statement was brought to many countries when people migrated around the world. Part of my family is from Ireland...but now in Texas...
The vinegar and baking soda worked great in your oven. Yes I like to keep things organized doesn't always work thought. Blonde makes me miss my two kitties, cats such supervisors. Love the ideas for back yard. See you soon on your next video. Take care
Your “pretty side of the garden” plans sound perfect: to look out on when you’re at your sink, or sitting in the garden. It will be a treat for your eyes!
Yeah! It is Catherine on a rainy Michigan day! :))) My Gran used to say when we were naughty that she was going to give us to the "tinkers"! Cheeky thumbs up!
Catherine the oven looks sparkling. When I clean my oven I put the baking soda and vinegar on and let it sit for awhile. Seems to loosen it a bit, and the scrubbing is not so hard. Love the plans for your yard. It is all coming together nicely. Around our house we took out all the plants directly against the foundation. We replaced it about 10 inches with a medium sized river rock. It looks lovely and it is not muddy there anymore. For the pathway we used a much smaller gravel. Best thing we did, no more muddy shoes. A lot easier to keep neat, especially in the fall when all the leaves and debris from the trees are flying about. Cannot wait to see the lovely things you have planned for out there. I enjoy your videos, always something interesting and of course precious Blondie. 🐈🦃🥧🧤🧦👢🥾🧣Getting colder here, looking for snow tonight, here outside of Pittsburgh, Pa. I pulled my Christmas tree out of the storage, but it is not up yet. Working on it. Just putzing around here getting things done little by little. 🎄❄️🌨🎿
For your new flower bed you might consider sheet mulching. You just mow the grass as short as you can get it. Then you put down layers of cardboard and cover it with compost and mulch. So much easier than all that digging.
Happy Friday Cathrine ☀️🌻🐝 Oh I defo agree with you, it is the simple things in life that mean the most. The oven looked great, so sparkly. Have a great weekend lovely xx
Hi Catherine, love what you're doing! The comment about hanging lights at the greenhouse is a great idea! I did want to say I live in the southern US and mosquitoes love, love our backyard ponds. I hope they are not an issue in Dublin.
I had new oven 5 years ago, before that mine was second hand. I clean the shelves with no problems but there are always bits on the sides and back that won't come off so 3 years ago I decided that I'd treat myself to having a man to come and clean my oven and it's always spotless. He takes so many bits apart that I would be afraid to do including the door and the glass and he doesn't use harsh chemicals. That's my treat to myself.
For the greenhouse: perhaps you can find a "rug" made of recycled plastic. They use it for patios and camping. They are easy to clean, but patterns might be limited. For the entry to the greenhouse: lay some bricks to create a step and put on top of it up a Metal Galvanised Steel Shoe Boot Scraper Door Floor Mat (garden centres and Amazon). You can stamp your feet on it and you get rid of the mud before you step into your greenhouse.
I live in Indiana and we still say "Where you born in a barn! Shut the door!" when people leave the door open. We also say "We're not trying to heat the outside!" Lol. We get about 6 months of Winter where I live and I have doors on every room too. Can't wait to see what you do with your backyard. It's gonna look amazing.🥰🥰
Great video Catherine. Enjoyed the chats. You looked so happy, so was lovely to see. Didn't know you could take the oven door off, so thanks for that. Lots of videos this week has been a real treat. 🥰👍 xxx
I rented a turf cutter for the first time in March to cut in a new flowerbed. It was a little big and a little out of control for me, but I did it! And it only took me a few minutes to dig out the grass from a 40 foot long 3 to 5 foot deep flowerbed! That would’ve taken me a few days to do by hand. I’m renting again soon to do my walkways. Worth every penny! My Christmas isn’t up yet either. Last two years I put it up in October. I’m loving my fall vibe I have going on though. Plus I have lots to do around the house and garden before I drag all my Christmas totes out. Thanks for the inspiring video. Sometimes all it takes is to know you’re not alone and someone else out there has to do the same stuff as out there too.💗
Good morning Sunshine, from Australia. I use this method all the time, but I make a paste of it with lemon, vinegar, baking soda. I rub it all over thickly, then leave it on over night, the next day I just wipe it off and magically it’s clean. Like you I find all kinds of excuses, when walking past it to open it, so yes, I understand where your coming from. Because of this, I find, I do it more often, as I love the smile it brings to my face. I know small things amuse small minds, because of the way the world is today, you need small things to put a smile on your face, or you would go bonkers. You alway make me laugh and leave a smile on my face. Have a great day.
Those sound like lovely plans. I am looking forward to seeing you digging the pond, tilling the flower bed and awaiting spring with you to watch make some garden magic.
You are sooooo talented that you can do everything yourself. Just cut the grass with a shaffle and make a circle, put the soil prodector and on top put the gravel. Easy but with a lot of sweat. Good luck.
Catherine, you have inspired me to get off my butt and get some things done. Thank you. I think all you're going to need is the turf remover. Then build the bed up with added soil into a little bank. Then plant your flowers. How about putting down some small gravel in front of the shed and greenhouse and lay some pavers using self-binding polymer sand. it will give you a small patio-like landing outside both of those doors. I have seen what you are capable of and I think you could manage this. In the states we have Aquascape - that sells DIY kits for installing water ponds and pond-less water features. Does Ireland have anything like that? I can't wait to see what you do and how it turns out. I have cleaned many an oven in my life, but didn't know you could remove the door and take it apart to clean. I'm going to research my model and give that a go. My Mom always used to say "were you born in a barn? Close the Door or We're not heating the outdoors! Close the door. Thanks for the memories. I miss my Mom.
I would turn rug upside down to flatten the edges just for a few days kinked edges can be a tripping or catching hazard but can stay like when upside down I would think of putting an ice cube on the corners. It works for raising the pile so should help with lifting corners from the tight roll
Girl you are phenomenal.....I look every week and admire your way of cleaning or decorating. But since you remove the hatch completely ,I have never done that and did not think you could , but now I know....Good job and have a nice relaxing weekend.
So happy you got a new boiler. Nothing better than a toasty house. This American girl loves heat also. I love my self cleaning oven! Just turn it to clean and walk away. No scrubbing and it is sparkling clean when it is done. You can use baking soda and vinegar to clean your drains too. You will have to plant some catnip for the Queen Bee in your garden. Be blessed and get well soon.
I put pea gravel down for seating area and the chairs sunk into the gravel. Consider a small wood deck. I built one 6X8 foot over the pea gravel and put large flat rocks stacked under the corners and it has stayed in place for 8 years. This you can do with a drill, a level, and saw. No digging.i built the support frame out of treated 2x4 s and the top treated deck boards.😊 The machinery your describing requires a lot of strength. Hire some muscles 😊 GET A WRITTEN QUOTE FOR HIS CHARGE. Mark out the areas with stakes and strong string so muscles knows where to remove the grass. Pay him when the work is FINISHED. Your also going to need a wheel barrow to move heavy items. Lay down a fabric under path to stop grass from growing up thru it or spray it with vinegar and salt mixture. Have fun! Can't wait to see it on you tube!
I have Irish heritage, I miss my Nan so much when you use all those ‘sayings’ lol. Remember to calculate the width of your mower when planning the garden, nothing worse than it ‘just not quite fitting in the gap’ 🪜💐🇦🇺
I'm 65 and have never seen anyone remove their oven door for cleaning. So there you go, you learn something new everyday!😄🧠

You explain feelings and emotions so well. You say things we all feel but we can't find the words to express it.
Those sound like lovely plans. I am looking forward to seeing you digging the pond, tilling the flower bed and awaiting spring with you to watch make some garden magic.
You are a cleaning machine! “Bless you”! ( when you sneezed!)
Awe thanks sweetie ❤️
Hi, dear Catherine. 🤗Thank you for another beautiful video. With love Maťa from Slovakia👋😊Bye
Thanks for watching honey ❤️
You are so uplifting, beautiful to see and hear, 👍🥰🥰
You are sooooo talented that you can do everything yourself. Just cut the grass with a shaffle and make a circle, put the soil prodector and on top put the gravel. Easy but with a lot of sweat. Good luck.
I really enjoyed this weeks vlog. You are so enthusiastic with loads of energy. Refreshing....take care sweetie xxxx
Dainty, you made my morning! I love to listen to you.
Another great video Catherine.
Hi Catherine brilliant video love to watch and listen.Brilliant job on oven impressed
I would turn rug upside down to flatten the edges just for a few days kinked edges can be a tripping or catching hazard but can stay like when upside down I would think of putting an ice cube on the corners. It works for raising the pile so should help with lifting corners from the tight roll
interesting tip!
Ooh thanks so much ❤️
Catherine, what a great job on the oven...it was so shiny!! Your green house is so cute. 😊❤👍🫖☕🏠
Thanks Nancy 🥰🥰🥰
Fun seeing all the plans come together
Girl you are phenomenal.....I look every week and admire your way of cleaning or decorating. But since you remove the hatch completely ,I have never done that and did not think you could , but now I know....Good job and have a nice relaxing weekend.
Aw thank you, you too, have a lovely weekend ❤️
i’m excited for your backyard plan!
Exciting stuff to come!!
Oh my gosh that sounds like a dream!!!! Thanks for stopping by ❤️🥰
Love how you and your neighbours are 😍
I put pea gravel down for seating area and the chairs sunk into the gravel. Consider a small wood deck. I built one 6X8 foot over the pea gravel and put large flat rocks stacked under the corners and it has stayed in place for 8 years. This you can do with a drill, a level, and saw. No digging.i built the support frame out of treated 2x4 s and the top treated deck boards.😊
The machinery your describing requires a lot of strength.
Omg yes this is crucial sometimes 🤣 thanks for stopping by Deb ❤️
Wow can't wait for your garden renovation ! ❤❤❤
