Have tried the simmering thingy and it's great...only burn pure beeswax candles because of my asthma now and yes the essential oils are toxic to cats! I've managed and haven't burnt the arse out of the pot! Oranges for decorating too..fabulous especially as I already had loads in the house and it was teeming rain outside..keep the ideas coming Catherine my girl! Great video as usual thanks a million!

I stayed in Edinburgh last week and went to the Christmas Market, the mulled cider was amazing. On the next day we went to Fort Kinnaird - retail Park with Homese and Wilko, the car was crammed. We had a blast, lots of laughs and girly fun.
Pleeeease go to all the Christmas markets and take us with you! :D (If you don't like long drives, be glad you're not in the US -- it takes us 10 hours (or more) to drive to see my family! Before Covid I didn't think anything of a 2+ hour day trip (how long it takes to get to Boston), but now, not so much. I'd rather stay home and take a nap.
When you live in the Netherlands and you don´t even have hills.. boyyyy I went to do a hike in Austria and really thought I was dying it even didn´t look steep, but my legs turned jello and my lungs almost gave up hahaha
Catherine, I enjoyed this chatty vlog so much! It is fun for me to hear how women in other countries think about things. You are really authentic and down to earth and I really like that. I am in the US and people here are very concerned about the newest variant too. Though I enjoy your travel vlogs, I am glad that you are not traveling outside Ireland right now. You're absolutely right about being outside in winter to raise the spirits. We're just like plants, we need daylight to flourish, and light therapy is used to help with the symptoms of seasonal affective disorder, known as Sad. My doctor suggested I buy a special lamp and sit with it shining in my face for a bit every day. It was rather expensive, 100 dollars Canadian, but it does help if you can't get out into the fresh air in daytime. Doesn't get light until after 8am and dark again before teatime so we're short on sunlight for months, and sometimes it's just too cold and snowy to enjoy the outdoors for long enough to do any good. I'm from Tyneside originally so I know winters can be nasty over there too, but going for a winter walk was always possible most of the time. The scent of the trees and the undergrowth, just lovely on a woodland tramp, and the scrunch of leaves underfoot. Vicarious fun going walking with you! 😊🍁
I love to sit with my coffee and have a visit with you. I love the dried orange slices in the wreath - beautiful refresh 🍊 When we do a ‘pot simmer’, as you call it, we leave the lid off the pot as it simmers on low. You’ve got my ‘feels’ going as well 😊 Happy December 🌲

I dry oranges all the time. (I'm a wreath maker), and one bag I stored over the winter got moldy. But mostly, they hold uo really well I made a wreath with nothing but dried oranges on it for myself last Christmas, and it's just as beautiful this year. Your wreath on the greenhouse is smashing!

I'm a homebody and only go out when I have to get groceries or go to medical visits. I've made my home comfortable so I don't feel the need to mingle with society. Thus keeps me safe.

I love to have a simmer pot on the stove. With three dogs the smells inside can get a bit ugly. I like the lemon and rosemary with cloves. The orange, cranberry, cinnamon, clove and allspice is delicious as well. I need to do some baking!!!!

If your mower has a mulching feature you can “mow” the leaves. Saves a ton of time and you don’t have to rake! My hubby began doing this a couple years ago. Works great.
What a beautiful stroll through the forest, all that moss, mist and magical area, I'm positive there's Fairies lurking near by. Love the back ground music while walking. The wreath came out really nice and can almost smell the aroma of the pot brewing. Your nails look very nice, like the length. Enjoyed this very much.

You need a nice big cuddly dog to take with you on your walks Catherine! They're protective and if you get a spaniel it will be full of fun! Belfast market is good but I would leave the car and take the train if I were you then you can eat drink and be merry and let somebody else drive and park!

I love the fact that you have so many choices to go on your hikes and go to different places. Fresh air and walking in nature is a good way to start your day, week, month off. Do you all get snow in winter in Irland? Here in Canada we are past the first frost and have had a 2 to 4 cm of snow. In my area we have a place where wild nature animals live safe area will be going for a walk in the woods next week. Don't like walking on my own like to walk with a good friend. When I simmer ground spices, I find that just sprinkling them on the surface is better than stirring them into the water. The smell is stronger, and you can keep the temperature low. My kids laugh at me because sometimes I forget to turn on the burner when I'm trying to boil something. Things happen. 😁 The wreath turned out beautifully.
No, most of our German markets are closed. It was wise to stay at your lovely home. Once, when the crazyness is over and you want to visit German Christmas markets, you are welcome as my guest any time (if you bear my tiny home, but it is cozy)

I tried growing herbs and she was a voracious gardener. Weeds trembled in her shadow, and apparently so did the herbs. One day she was tossing clumps over her shoulder and I was cleaning the path for her when I had a waft of onion hit me.... "Er mum... that's not grass" "Of course it is" "no mum that's my poor chives!" Bless her. She loved her garden and she would have loved you and yours :) Thanks for that fond memory xx
I dry and string orange & apple slices along with raw nuts, cranberries, berries & popcorn each year for the birds. They get draped in my trees and along my fence. I love having birds in my garden throughout the winter. The berries never last long enough to go bad.. they're the favored treat. It's so fun sitting inside all cozy warm with a cup of hot cocoa watching them enjoying their meals.

The Cork Market is magic, the atmosphere and craic is fabulous. I have wood burners in the living rooms and put a pot simmer on each throughout Christmas, I just top up with water when needed. I love it. Your wreath is so pretty, I might pinch that idea for the house. I have some orange rings I dried in the hydrator. I think it's a great idea to ask your brothers for help instead of a Christmas present. I have asked the same of my sons as I'm of an age where heavy labour is beyond me.

You can use that Christmas pot water as a winter tonic. You can put it into the fridge, or make ice cubes to keep for when you need meds for viruses.

You need a nice big cuddly dog to take with you on your walks Catherine! They're protective and if you get a spaniel it will be full of fun! Belfast market is good but I would leave the car and take the train if I were you then you can eat drink and be merry and let somebody else drive and park!

Hi Catherine would definitely recommend the Belfast Christmas Market. Also lots of good shops to go to in Belfast and would definitely recommend festive afternoon tea in the Merchant Hotel in Belfast . Have fun and loved your wreath it looked so festive on your greenhouse xx❤️

I love the fact that you have so many choices to go on your hikes and go to different places. Fresh air and walking in nature is a good way to start your day, week, month off. Do you all get snow in winter in Irland? Here in Canada we are past the first frost and have had a 2 to 4 cm of snow. In my area we have a place where wild nature animals live safe area will be going for a walk in the woods next week. Don't like walking on my own like to walk with a good friend. When I simmer ground spices, I find that just sprinkling them on the surface is better than stirring them into the water. The smell is stronger, and you can keep the temperature low. My kids laugh at me because sometimes I forget to turn on the burner when I'm trying to boil something. Things happen. 😁 The wreath turned out beautifully.
No, most of our German markets are closed. It was wise to stay at your lovely home. Once, when the crazyness is over and you want to visit German Christmas markets, you are welcome as my guest any time (if you bear my tiny home, but it is cozy)

What a wonderful vlog! Thanks for taking us with you - totally enjoyed. I did giggle out loud at the onion smell "oh maybe that wasn't a weed" It reminded me so much of my mum. I tried growing herbs and she was a voracious gardener. Weeds trembled in her shadow, and apparently so did the herbs. One day she was tossing clumps over her shoulder and I was cleaning the path for her when I had a waft of onion hit me.... "Er mum... that's not grass" "Of course it is" "no mum that's my poor chives!" Bless her. She loved her garden and she would have loved you and yours :) Thanks for that fond memory xx

I dry and string orange & apple slices along with raw nuts, cranberries, berries & popcorn each year for the birds. They get draped in my trees and along my fence. I love having birds in my garden throughout the winter. The berries never last long enough to go bad.. they're the favored treat. It's so fun sitting inside all cozy warm with a cup of hot cocoa watching them enjoying their meals.

I make my own wreaths and garland so I love foraging for Holly, Fir greens, etc. I was also looking into visiting the Galway or Belfast Christmas Markets. Just love everything about Christmas. I love to watch HILARY at Old World Home. A few years ago she did dried oranges and applesauce/cinnamon raindeer garland. She did a simmer pot in today's video. Loved the walk in the woods, especially the decorated tree 🎄 Just a thought about the wreath for the front door, how often is your door knocker used, could you hang a wreath from the ring using the ribbon, just a thought.? Why don't you save your money and start your garden now with no dig, that way come spring it'll be ready to plant.

I have wood burners in the living rooms and put a pot simmer on each throughout Christmas, I just top up with water when needed. I love it.
