- Russell Stone & Joanne Stone sing "We Do It". The song has been released on to the brand new 2 CD Set issued by Lynx Music UK, it's called "The Very Best Of R&J Stone" and it has 26 tracks from Russell & Joanne. It really is a wonderful CD collection of all their best music recordings including: "We Do It", "One Chance", "Dancin' Jones", "This Will Be", "Nothing's Changed", "It Just Goes To Show" and many more! This is the first time that these recordings have been issued onto CD! Available from Amazon & I-Tunes. Joanne and I met in 1973 on a James Last World Tour. We were both studio singers although Joanne had not been in the UK that long, having moved here from the USA. The attraction was present from the moment I saw her the first day of rehearsals and it wasn't that long into the tour that we got together. We set up home later that year and it was exciting times for both of us, lots of work and lots of play. I had begun writing in 1967 moving my way through various scenarios without a glimmer of success. Joanne introduced me to Jazz and R&B artists I had never heard of and I found that music very inspiring, especially the act Ashford and Simpson, two great singers and writers. I figured I could do the same and in 1975 wrote some 5 songs for Joanne and myself to demo. The demos were heard by Lynn Cornell who was signed with the producer Phil Swern as part of the act The Pearls. She played them to him and he liked the songs and subsequently recorded them. Listening to the end product it was clear to all of us that 'We Do It' stood out a mile and he got a deal for Joanne and myself with RCA. While recording the first few tracks, Geoff Carver the engineer asked for the name of the act to put on the multi-track, Joanne and I looked at each other and we both shrugged, so I said, 'Well you'd better put R&J Stone on for the moment...' It never changed. 'We Do It' was released in January 1976 and eventually showed in the charts reaching No. 5 and staying there briefly. R&J Stone attracted a great deal of attention for the next two years, punching far above our weight in terms of chart position, and the whole R&J experience was a beautiful thing that brought us both great joy. I continue to be touched by the many people who have contacted me since the internet got up and running to share with me their joy of our music from those years, which is why I am so happy that this CD of our songs is now being released. One thing I am grateful for now is that by 1979, the year of Joanne's death, we had faded from the public arena and that allowed her to be with her family during her terminal illness and not bothered by the media which would have been horrendous. After many years I am able to look at those years with great fondness instead of just the tragedy it became for a while. I thank God for allowing me to share her living and dying. I was devastated for many years by what happened but have come through all that stronger and wiser and I would not change a thing. Life is beautiful, death inevitable, bow to inevitability and dance. I remember when I was station at RAF Lakenheath in 1976. I heard this song for the first time & to be honest with you it blew me right out of the water. Now almost 50 years later it still blows me out of the water. By the way who still listens to this song in 2024 soon to be 2025 besides myself?
That man's velvet voice just melts me. And Joanna,s fabulous! They just so complimented each other. One of my all time favourite tunes ever. I was 16 in 1976 🥂❤️❤️🥂❤️🥂
There are some songs that you absolutely love from the first time you hear them. But there aren't that many that you still love as much nearly fifty years later. This is one.
Heard this today on Radio 2. Maybe 30 years since last heard . Proper Tune. Great to hear it.
Wonderful performance and that special smile is awesome.
One of my favourite tracks from 70's I still have the vinyl record ❤
WHAT A CRACKING SONG. '76. I WAS ONLY 1.
Who's listening to this now 24 brilliant song what voices
This song is so gorgeous it gives me goosebumps, Joanne had such a beautiful voice, it was so sad when she passed away. RIP. Thank you for giving us this song.
How many artists nowadays could do a live version that sounded just as good as the record? Beautiful. I loved this song so much when it came out, and it's one of the few songs I could listen to over and over again without getting tired of hearing it.
Beautiful couple Beautiful song - they just make them like this anymore
Beautiful song touching my emotion.
I have to comment on this, here in 2021. I adore this song, to hear it live and pure emotion in each breath is truly amazing. It makes the hairs on my arms stand on end. Amazing.
It’s so beautiful and when it’s sung so well it makes it even better. Sadly the lady ( Joanne) died only 3 years after this wonderful song, just so sad.
I remember this song on Top of the pop back 1976
wow.........no lip synching here...........real voices.......both great singers
claudette dalton absolutely
What beautiful couple!! What Voices!!
And Joanna was so elegant.
Russel thank you for me and us for the gorgeous sounds of R andJ stone, and this song in particular has been present through my adult life as the most played song. Joanne had the voice I would expect an angel to sound like and yours was a lovely compliment to hers, both brilliant artists,, so thank you R and J Stone, I will always love you both.
Such a beautiful sad song especially as we lost the beautiful Joanna 3 years after this release in 76.
To my gorgeous wife Tracey i love you more than anything and anyone in the world my Love come all the way from my Heart ♥ to your heart ♥ 2 Heart ♥ as one me and you 💖💖💖❤️❤️❤️
Great song from 1976. Sad to hear about Joanna, she had a great voice.

I’ve never heard what did happen to Joanna can someone please tell me
She has the best voice ever. True…Best Ever
@@paulmcculloch7378 Unfortunately she died from a brain tumour in 1979 x
@@ronnieandreggiegordon5277 Thanks for the reply. This is and always has been my favourite song of all time and such a beautiful young woman and that voice ❤
I can't believe that it is that long ago that they recorded it. I'm an old dinnosoar and have not long ago found you tube and realised that you can view and listen to all this old stuff. I always wondered why with such a voice we hadn't heard more from them. What age was she when she passed away back in 1979. Thanks
@@paulmcculloch7378 I think just 37. They had a three year old child. How very sad.
Life can be too cruel! For a couple to go from sharing a wonderful song celebrating their special love with the world to having that love sundered by heart breaking tragedy is a terrifying turn around. I can only imagine how Russell must've felt when Joanne was taken from him.

Ela tinha uma voz muito bonita !
Me recuerda mucho Love De Luxe Let Me Make It Up To You que cantaba Joanne Stone
This song was mine , my husband's , for years ,we ere 56 years together he passed away 24 .4 23 .we so much in love ,like R /J stone were the words go to my heart .
I notice UA-cam have removed the original official video with this pair walking in a snowy park singing their hearts out. It was a class upload from yourself and was saved to my favourites. Wish I could view it again, it was brilliant.
Yes I was wondering what happened to that video. It was filmed in Hamsptead Heath, London in 1975. Lovely video. As you say it was brilliant.
Sad it has been removed - loved watching it too 🙁
Yes the original music video was removed, really sad because it was a classic. However we released the Double CD Set of R&J Stone a number of years ago, and the video is included on the CD set. You can play it on your computer. The CD set is like gold dust now......www.amazon.co.uk/R-J-Stone-Very-Best/dp/B0072LK8XO/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1551573687&sr=8-5&keywords=R%26J+Stone
it was a very special video. with their footprint in the snow.i watched it so many times..there was something about that one.magical
its still there , ive just watched it
Well that explains the 1976 world sequin shortage 😊
Great song sung live 👏 not like today's auto tune wannabes
When singers could really sing, today it’s who shows the most flesh or wobbles their bits. There are exceptions but most mainstream today is goddamn awful.
Hi russell
Do you remember the "Globe" golf days? with john Moxon & me Vic?
Great fun, great video!
Every night, every day any possible way. Wonder what they were doing ? 🤔
Just seen this played on now 70s. Googled it and found tye lady had died in 1979. Real.shame.!
