So crazy story, I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. After I turned 19 I was given a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend the night on Alcatraz island as a chaperone to a highschool group. The rangers that were overseeing our trip had us all sleep in D Block which was also known as Segregation. I purposely chose to sleep in Stroud's cell as I had read quite a bit about him as well as Alcatraz itself. It was a slightly scary and very surreal experience, but I'm very grateful to have had the opportunity. Great episode very well done. Keep it up this channel is awesome.
The real Stroud may have been a monster but Burt Lancasters performance is fantastic. The Birdman of Alcatraz is a classic, it holds up incredibly. Great acting all around. Great direction from the underrated Frankenheimer.
It’s amazing how this video has come up just as I’ve began a new hobby of feeding birds on my morning walk. I have friend called Bill and he is a Crow and he always meets me at the same spot every morning. He now come up to me and is not afraid of me. He hears my voice as I pray and always circles twice around me and then lands about 10 feet away and then hops towards me, stopping every foot and cocks his head to say hello. I love Bill.
Oh! You reminded me. We have a bird feeder up, but hadn't put seed in for like 3 yrs...until this past week I found the seed I bought a few months ago intending to put in feeder, but lost. I posted earlier about how Birdman of Alcatraz had strangely come up after a series of random events ealier this am b4 seeing Simon's post, so it's been a theme. But I guess the bird theme started w finding the seed. Lol

After the release of the movie, a young girl wrote the assistant Warden saying that he was nice and should be freed. The Warden then read some of Stroud's Man/Boy writings, but stopped before he got too graphic with his descriptions. Despite his books on bird diseases, Stroud was a pretty sick individual himself.
The Man/Boy writings were actually about the sex and rape that Stroud had been a witness to in Leavenworth Penitentiary, a prison that would become a byword for cruelty.

I went to a lecture many years ago, done by a man that said he was in prison with Stroud in Alcatraz. According to this man (doing the lecture) that Stroud was as nutty as a squirrel turd.
Oddly enough(despite his two killings, and one attempt of suicide) I have a sense of respect for the bird man. He studied birds while incarcerated. Nobody else has done that to my knowledge.
I love how on your more "professional" channels (aka the ones that AREN'T Business Blaze) you actually link stuff in the description (but Business Blaze is still your best channel by far, your personality fits it so perfectly).

@@NorCalJuggalo420 what's with the current obsession people have with the names of each generation recently? All of a sudden all I see is boomer or millennial
Timothy McCaskey we are beyond reproach as a generation! Musically, we had the golden eras of both Hip Hop and Alternative music. By the end of the 90’s, we had a budget surplus (we’ll take credit for that. It seems to be how it’s done). As far as killers go, ours was the OJ era; the trial of the century! Of course that’s sarcasm, but growing up in the 90’s was pretty great- especially in NYC, where the club scene saw some of its best days since the Studio54 era and ended with the new millennium and the election of Mayor Guliani. But I digress...
I live in Leavenworth (the town) and you need to do a show on this town. Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary is only one of seven. Incarceration is our industry. Also what goes on at Fort Leavenworth is extremely interesting, we train all of our and the world’s (well, our allies) best military officers, and........ perhaps some fell out of favor and had their pics removed from the wall of esteemed graduates like.......
