I’m so glad I came across your channel. Thank you for sharing with us. I can’t wait to try this method. Lately, all of my signs have been bleeding and it’s been a bit overwhelming.
Hi thank you so much! Good question! I actually used 2 small eye hooks and screwed them on the top edge of the sign. The underside of my porch roof is tongue and groove and I hammered two nails into the roof. Then I just twisted some thin metal floral wire around the nails and down to the eye hooks on the sign. It’s pretty invisible. I use the same wire through the seasons to change my porch signs.
Hi thank you so much! I usually price my smaller signs around $18 (14x14”) and medium (12x24”) around $35. For the large ones from $50-60. Hope that helps!
I tried painting over my letters some time ago and they didn’t come out crisp. Not sure where I went wrong. 🤔 Maybe I didn’t paint over same color as background? I’ll definitely be trying your method. Thanks!
Thank you! I actually used some wire attached to the top edge of the sign with some eye hooks, and attached the other end of the wire to some nails up toward the porch ceiling.👍🏻
Hi. I haven’t had that happen but have gotten a few comments from people who have. Im not for sure why but I think it is the types of paints. Some do stick better to contact than others. I like flats and chalks, sometimes satin. . they don’t stick as well to the adhesive. You can also de-sticky the contact paper on a towel or cloth first. You can seal the stencil edges with mod Podge or paint before stenciling to reduce bleeding if you desticky first. Hope that helps!
Yes I place them into the top edge of the board. They are small and not noticeable. You can also screw them in at an angle downward on the back of your board until they lay almost flat. I’ll try to post that process in a video. I have shiplap wood on the underside of my porch ceiling so I just drive in a couple nails or hooks and hand the wire from those.
Christy Cain - The Appalachian Home what size eye hooks do u use? I think I let the black paint dry too long, it pulled away more than just the letters on my first try, worked fine on my second one, but I pulled the tape & letters up right away. Thanks
Shoot, I thought I heard you say the board size was 16 x 14, that's what I bought, can you recommend what size font should I use fir this size, thank you.
That’s ok so sorry! If you are using a 16x14 board then I would use a 3/4” wide edge for the frame. A good size for the entire “stay awhile” would be about 13.2 x 11.26”. That would mean the “STAY” letters were 6.647x11.418” (font size 659) and the “awhile” is 5.768x13.2” (font size 430 - 450 depending on font). I kinda squished the stay letters together. Hope that helps!
Hi! I think the script font was Frutilla and I think Creative Market might still have it. The sans font was something like Mongolian Baiti and should already be installed on your computer.
@@hairgirl1970 Hi the piece of wood was 20.5" wide x 19.5" tall (should've mentioned that in the video :/ ). The size of the STAY letters were 7.6" high and a total of 13" long. The size of the "awhile" was 6.6" high and a total of 15.1" long. Also I think you asked about the Mongolian Baiti font I just checked and it is a Cricut font.
Hi I think I have those fonts listed somewhere down in the comments if you want to scroll thru them ... it was a while back and I can't remember the names sorry!
Hi! I paint first the white because it takes less coats of paint to paint black onto white than white onto black. If I had painted black first, it might have taken 4 or 5 coats of white to cover the black. I was trying to save some time I think, but really you could do it either way. :)
@@AppalachianHomeCo But the question is different) So you pasted the letters. Already could be painted black. But before that you made a white layer. I assume that black paint does not spread?
This is neat, I like the idea that you don't always need a frame. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe and well ♡
I love this idea!! So much better than just a solid board. Thank you for all the videos you do. I’m learning lots!!😊
I'm so glad these are helpful!! 😊
I want to see more of your videos; you were my first subscribe when I got interested in my Cricut. :)
Really that is so sweet! I definitely want to do more signs and videos!

Hi thanks so much! Yes it is really frustrating when that happens and after you put so much work into a sign. Hope this helps!!
The end results are beautiful! What a great idea!
Thank you so much!🙂
We call the de-sticking...fussing. Love your videos
Good word choice I'll remember that :) Thank you so much!
Great job! Perfect for ppl without a mitre saw or anyway to frame/ cut!
Thanks! It was alot easier to make too.
I love it! So beautiful. You do incredibly wod crafts DIY!

I love it! Hope to see you more signs just like this. Just got my first cricket haven't even taken it out of the box I'm kind of intimidated LOL
😂I know exactly what you mean I felt the same at first. Thanks so much and congrats on your Cricut!
Leona Garcia I felt the same way when I got mine. But I watched so many Cricut tutorials and wished I would’ve bought one sooner. Just do it!!!! Haha!
What a great idea!!! Thanks for sharing:)
Thanks so much!!
Lovin these videos! Thank u so much for taking the time to make them! I'm learning a lot of awesome techniques. 💜💕💜💕💜💕💜💕💜💕💜💕💜💕

I love love all your videos of farm signs. If you don’t mind me asking..how much do these frames sell out for?

Hi yes definitely try painting over with the background color first, it makes a world of difference!!
Very nice , what did you use for hanging
Thank you! I actually used some wire attached to the top edge of the sign with some eye hooks, and attached the other end of the wire to some nails up toward the porch ceiling.👍🏻
Such a great idea to do a faux frame. Do you know which fonts you used? I’m making wedding signs for my son, these would be perfect.
Hi thank you! I think the serif letters were something like Mongolian Baiti. And the script letters (awhile) were a font called Fruitilla Script.👍🏻
I used the magic cover brand of contact paper for my stencil, when I pulled it up it left a sticky residue on my board. Any suggestions?? Thank you

Can you explain or show how you fasten the eye hooks, they aren't visible on your sign, & then u put nails in the ceiling, can u explain. Thanks

Can chalk paint be used? Or paint with primer?
Hi yes I use chalk paint all the time!

What font did you use on the sign and where can I get it?
Hi! I think the script font was Frutilla and I think Creative Market might still have it. The sans font was something like Mongolian Baiti and should already be installed on your computer.
I wish you could use a cricut Joy to make this
Oooh I really want to try the Joy!
@@AppalachianHomeCo lol you can have mine I barely use it lol
What cricut machine do you use?
Hi. I use both Explore Air 2 and Maker, but mostly use the Maker.
What cricut setting do you use when using contact paper?
Hi. When I had the Explore Air 2 I set it to Vinyl. I haven't cut contact paper with the Maker.
👍👍👍👍
Such a great idea! Can I ask what fonts you used for this sign?
Sure! Im not sure about STAY it was a serif font like Mongolian Baiti? But the script letters (awhile) is a font called Frutilla.
@@AppalachianHomeCo What size did you cut the words out in? Also, what is the size of the piece of wood you used?

Is there any way you can cut me a couple stencils on this paper and mail to me in Canada? 🤔
Hi. I could list something for you on Etsy just let me know what you would need!
Hello, I don 't know the language. You probably explained in the video why you paint in letters first with white paint. Write please
Hi! I paint first the white because it takes less coats of paint to paint black onto white than white onto black. If I had painted black first, it might have taken 4 or 5 coats of white to cover the black. I was trying to save some time I think, but really you could do it either way. :)

What size was your frame?
Hi I think the width I finally used for the frame was 1.75".
Sorry I just measured it and it is actually 1" thick!!
No cricket
I will definitely try to come up with some other methods and ideas for not using Cricut!
