I noticed your stencil had lots of bubbles, if you furnish with the scraper tool over the contact paper before removing from the backing that will go away. Also you shouldn’t trash it after use, contact paper is reusable. 😇 Loved the video!!
Hi Christy, love the way you teach us how to create wood signs. Thank you. I was just wondering, what is the type of wood you're using for the frame, I like how the grain is showing through
Hi! I really do use vinyl more often than stencil and prefer vinyl, it’s easier and quicker. I think I was just showing an alternative way to use vinyl if you need to stencil. I stencil if I don’t have a certain color of vinyl available, or if I want a more rustic, worn look in the letters. Hope that makes sense!
I am new to making wood and canvas signs, I’m waiting on my Cricut I just ordered! I have been watching all your videos and learned so much! My question is, is it more cost effective and easier to just make stencils with contact paper vs using the vinyl decals?
Hi! Congrats on your Cricut!! At first I made stencils and nothing but stencils. Then I discovered vinyl☺️If you take unto account your time then stencils are not more cost effective. Stencil material is a little cheaper but takes a little more time to paint. . Then you have touch up work. I do use stencils a lot when I don’t have a color of vinyl, or when I want a certain look, but I love the vinyl and use it more often!👍🏻
Christy Cain - The Appalachian Home thank you so much for responding!! Being a newbie, and starting out mainly working on white or stained wood, with black and white lettering, do you suggest I don’t do stencil right now and just focus on using the vinyl?
Kayla Browning I would try both! You will find times you want to stencil. And I have gotten some comments from those who prefer stenciling and totally disapprove of vinyl lol. You can see which you like, or you may even do projects with both stencils and vinyl, like monogram signs, etc. ! If you’re worried about getting overwhelmed try them separately until you’re comfortable moving on to the next.
Thank you so much!! I have used a few different materials for sign boards, in this video I used temporary service board ( found in the paneling aisle at Lowe’s). I also use luan board which I like better for a little extra cost. My favorite to use to paint signs is little foam rollers. I also use foam brushes they are inexpensive and work well on small signs. On really large signs I use a large roller or spray gun👍🏼
Hi. I get my fonts from Creative Market, Hungry Jpeg (in the past, not so much now), Font Bundles, for commercial use. For free use I get from Dafont.com, FontSpace, and check for weekly free fonts from Creative Market. I get a lot of new fonts that way. My favorites are: Skinny Font, Velvetberries, Roseroot Cottage Font Bundle, Cami Rae, Autumn in November, Marihouse, Maheisa, etc. I have a blog on my website about different fonts I use if you want to check it out theappalachainhome.com. Hope that helps!!
It all depends on the look you want. I like the look of them on some projects, and on others I don't like it so rustic looking. It all depends on preference! You can definitely staple the back or completely leave out the staples and use a nail gun to attach the pieces. I do this differently in other videos depending on what look I want.
Also what type of contact paper do you use for your stencils and your transfer tape? I've tried several types of contact paper for my stencils and it hasnt worked well for me
Hey! I have used the brand you get at Dollar General (Magic Cover i think) and the kind from walmart (shelf liner in beige color). The clear is the "peel and stick" brand. What problems are you having with it? Also I have been using black matte vinyl from amazon. I just bought some more from a brand called StyleTech i will let u know how it works. Vinyl can be tricky on wood. Cricut brand sticks great to most stuff.
Hi. I buy 8' long strips of 1-1/2" x 3/4" pine and cut them to length. I also have made frames from 2x4's ripped down into that size. In the beginning I did ask Lowes a few times to cut pieces for me tho!
I love your little helping hands!
Lol! Me too☺
Now I can learn from you because u are straight to the point
Yay I’m so glad !!😊

I just love all of your info. You’re so talented 💕
That’s so nice thank you so much!! 😊
Thank you so much. Very informative!
Thank you!
I use modge podge on the stencil before I paint for nice clean lines. It seals up the edges so the paint can't bleed through
Thanks! I've heard that works great but haven't tried it yet.

Hi, what kind of material are you using for the white base and what did you use to paint it? I love your work!!

You can put your transfer paper back on the backing and use it multiple times. That saves a lot of money.
Hi! Yes I have started doing that a lot now it does save a lot!👍🏻
where do you get your fonts? what are your favorite go to fonts to use?

Wouldn’t you want to staple the corners on the back side?

Do you buy the frame in pices or do you have to cut it and start it your self

Christy Cain - The Appalachian Home Thank you for answering back
What font is that? I really like it.
Hi thanks! It is called Good Feeling Script, and I think I got it from Creative Market or The Hungry Jpeg website.
@@AppalachianHomeCo thank you so much!
What type of vinyl are you using?
