One of my favorite songs by Moody Blues. One of John Lodges best. Seen Moodies several times. Hoping to hear this. This song is really a lost Classic. They really do a nice job here. I love Ray and Mike on orginal..
Indeed people wonder why they really are my favourite band and wouldn’t change it for the world.. :) this stands up so well what they were writing back then what my dad went through in Vietnam too in the Australian Navy..those well thought out words as chorus ends with solution speaks wonders with this stupid virus wearing as mask on the train despite not much chance of any spread,.Rock on Moodies .The Moody Blues 2018 Rock N Roll Hall of Fame :)
Sorry, it’s not great music. (Don’t blame me: You asked.) The first section is extremely trite harmonically, and the melody on top is just a bit of inconsequential doodling. The second section, that is, the “desolation” stuff, is scarcely music at all, more or less talking, and the lyric there is embarrassing (I know you said “music”, but were there music substantially in this section, it would be difficult, no matter how well constructed, for it have survived coupled to such a ghastly lyric). Really, I’m surprised the remaining members of the Moody Blues were still performing the song at this late date. You’d think they’d have buried it long ago. (That isn’t sarcasm; I’m genuinely taken aback.) In case you’re wondering, by the way, I clicked on this because I didn’t recognize the song by its title, unfortunately, and the flutist in the thumbnail caught my eye.
bradman1100 Saw the Moodies do this song at the Inglewood Forum late 1972 Mike Pinders Mellotron and their harmonies was Spectacular That brought the house down for a thunderous encore!!!
Wonderful video. I had no idea that this song was ever done live, what a nice treat! A bit different then the original recording, which is to be expected since not all of the members are there. I think the guys did a marvelous job, it is not an easy song to do live. I don't believe it was ever meant to be. Thank you for sharing this with us!!!
Missing Mike on the mellotron. But I've seen the Moodies live a few times and others on video and this is the first time I've heard them try this song. Good to hear them finally do it.
I will confess, at this point, that in the 90's, I was sneaked in to watch the Band rehearsing at the Hollywood Bowl. No one knew that I was there. They knocked me over with how seriously they took their music. They really were the most professional Band that I've seen. No wonder then that they were so successful and stayed true to themselves! A Fan since college, in the 70's, and some of the happiest times in my life! 💙💙💙🇬🇧💙💙💙
I remember Graham Edge once commenting on how the Moodies struck gold when they found Justin. I think the same magic happened when they found Norda. Now, if she would only sing "Legend of a Mind", it would be perfect. I will always miss Mike and Ray's contributions to the live shows, though.
avlisk, Norda is a wonderful addition. Yet if she sang Legend of a Mind there would be some people out there complaining that it isn't Ray! I am not one of them. However there are those who would somehow, magically expect her to sound like Ray !?!
I have seen them live a few times, and I don't remember them playing this one. One of my favorites! Very grateful that you "minstrels," are out the carrying a worthwhile message! Peace my friends!
Thx Moodies! The unique philosopher and seeker band who expanded many people’s vision of life and what can be if we only choose it to be. RIP Ray + Graham❤️. They remain one of the greatest bands of all time who spoke of love, peace and harmony!
We played the Moody blues, Crosby stills Nash and Young, Doobie brothers over and over and over through high school and college. I never get tired of listening to their music.
When I was in art school in Boston more often than not doing my home work I would listen to music. This song and other Moody Blues Songs were constantly playing in my work space. Music & Art will always go hand and hand!
Great tune with lots of whimsical and haunting and ethereal lyrics! Each live performance has its differences and I always appreciate live stuff. Wish they would do more gems like this!
Oh wow - I so remember sitting in my (or a friend's) dorm room around 1971 and listening to this and just getting carried away....usually with a little bit of chemical help. I had forgotten how much I liked this song. One of the band's best, no doubt. Soluuuuuution! Yeah!
Really sad that these guys are going to get too old to tour. Reminds me of high school years. I’ve seen them probably a dozen times. Never gets old but the clock keeps ticking. Kind of sad.
Where did this performance come from? The picture and sound quality is great! I didn't think they ever did this one live, since the studio version is so elaborate. In my "Moodies live" playlist". Thanks for the upload!
Well done! It’s nice to here this underrated song performed live! This song brings me back to my freshman year in college. I listened to the Moodies more than any other band or performer. I also saw them for the first time and I have been hooked on their music for life.
Their ability to do this song live, even without the original personnel, is remarkable. If I could admire them any more than I already did after hearing this, I would.
good to see norda mullen here, that fall back lyric of ; confusion-illusion reminds me of those countless 50s and 60s songs with ....'arms/charms ' etc.
I would come home from "partaking" in H.S and throw this side of "Every Good Boy.." on the turntable...Felt I was transported to the English countryside, with the threat of rain.
Awesome version of a great song. I think this live version is better than the album track. Really great performance. I can't believe I have never seen this played live. I have seen them over 40 times!
What a beautiful inspirational song! Who is the cute blond in the black dress? She does not harmonize as well as the others in the band. Either that or she doesn't choose to. What and which is it?
I believe 'the blonde' is Julie Ragins…I don't see that she's a good 'fit' with the group, either. Not a smooth blend with their always delicious harmonies.
Spent a bit of time learning all the flute parts by ear. Irritated me no end that Tull parts were requested more . Whenever I heard a flute part I set about learning it. Made having to play the damn thing in band tolerable, since I prefer to wait on tenor sax.
They played OMTTL on the 1972 & 1973 tours. This song was great on those tours with the awesome four part harmony of Ray, Mike, John, and Justin, Ray's flute was great and Mike's mellotron tied it all together. A spectacular live song in 72 & 73 that only they could pull together, Much better than the 2007 version.
I wonder when someone plays this video that Ray looks down and smiles. She does such a wonderful job on the flute. We do miss you, Mr Thomas.
I agree!
❤️
One of my favorite songs by
Moody Blues.
One of John Lodges best.
Seen Moodies several times.
Hoping to hear this.
This song is really a lost Classic.
They really do a nice job here.
I love Ray and Mike on orginal..
this song tugs on my soul
i don't know why
Superb! One of John Lodge's most creative songs, which I thought was long forgotten. So happy to have found this
Good songs never die the just get remembered and how fitting for RIGHT NOW!!
I believe he's doing solo tours, now. So he might be doing this one.
Just the greatest band ever!
INDEED MY FRIEND....INDEED.✨😇😇😇💫🌟🌟🌟🌟🌏🌏🌏🌏🌏
Ray was icon died prostate cancer
The greatest band there ever was or will be...such poets.....God given, no doubt....there music will live forever. ..
You can't tell me this not Great Music I will always Play this music forever and a Day
I can't tell you this is not great music!
I could tell you it's not good music... But I'd be lying 🤥

@@jeffryphillipsburns To go into such hyper-critical mode against probably the most creative band of the pop generation ...methinks a hidden agenda.
what a performance. Never thought this would be done live. brilliant. Great video. as good as it gets.
bradman1100 Saw the Moodies do this song at the Inglewood Forum late 1972 Mike Pinders Mellotron and their harmonies was Spectacular
That brought the house down for a thunderous encore!!!
What a beautifully crafted tune D, Dm7, D7, G, Gm6, what a sequence of chords.
Thank you for that - on the guitar you're just playing a D chord and walking down D-C#-C-B-Bb. The second time he skips the C#
Bill and Buster does the same in "Hold on to what you've got"....
This concert was fabulous, they sound wonderful. The ladies are an attribute to the great Moody Blues!👍♥️♥️

Norda Mullen is a perfect fit for The Moody Blues :)
I remember Graham Edge once commenting on how the Moodies struck gold when they found Justin. I think the same magic happened when they found Norda. Now, if she would only sing "Legend of a Mind", it would be perfect. I will always miss Mike and Ray's contributions to the live shows, though.

INDEED...SHE IS LOVELY.
Absolutely.
She should be promoted to full fledged Moody, the way Justin and John were when they joined.
fantastic song beautifully sung by all...;-)
I have seen them live a few times, and I don't remember them playing this one. One of my favorites! Very grateful that you "minstrels," are out the carrying a worthwhile message! Peace my friends!

One of their songs I never thought I'd see and hear done live. Amazing.
The images, message and emotions conveyed by this song are nothing short of pure creative musical brilliance.
I like this kind of music forever. The best.
Such a lovely song! And such a lovely performance!
Well made video. Beauitful song. Thanks for posting.
We played the Moody blues, Crosby stills Nash and Young, Doobie brothers over and over and over through high school and college. I never get tired of listening to their music.
Celestial sounds and arrangements.
Awesome just Awesome thanks for sharing this live performance, it is as good as it gets, absolutely ….
I LOVE this song! I wish I could hear it live. The harmony is dead on!
A song that should never be forgotten.
When I was in art school in Boston more often than not doing my home work I would listen to music. This song and other Moody Blues Songs were constantly playing in my work space. Music & Art will always go hand and hand!
This was a great show. Happily I was there!
What a tremendous back log they have such a great band never tier of listening to them every track a gem
My favorite Moodies song! thank you...
So nice to find this live.
Great tune with lots of whimsical and haunting and ethereal lyrics! Each live performance has its differences and I always appreciate live stuff. Wish they would do more gems like this!

Inspirational lyrics/music. Ahead of its time!

My heaven! 🙌❤️🙏
FABULOUS thanks for this.In England we don't get to see them very often.UK tour long overdue
Really sad that these guys are going to get too old to tour. Reminds me of high school years. I’ve seen them probably a dozen times. Never gets old but the clock keeps ticking. Kind of sad.
absolutely brillant
Love Julie's voice ('the blonde").
Julie Ragins
There are times when a live performance is more powerful then the recorded version!
Listening to one of my favorite bands and one of their lovely songs in June 2022. Cheers.
Where did this performance come from? The picture and sound quality is great! I didn't think they ever did this one live, since the studio version is so elaborate. In my "Moodies live" playlist". Thanks for the upload!

Wonderful! Thanks!🥰
This beautiful song is more relevant today than ever
changes in my life
Love this. Thank you.
Fantastic song.

Beautiful!❤️✌🏼🙏🏃🏻
good to see norda mullen here, that fall back lyric of ; confusion-illusion reminds me of those countless 50s and 60s songs with ....'arms/charms ' etc.
Beautiful!
Their stuff exudes beauty and power
Forever a favorite!
BRILLIANT!
One of John’s best songs.
Superbly done! Thanks!
Wow, been a fan for 50 years, never heard of them doing this one live. Really great, albeit 14 years ago
I believe we have some Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas in those harmony vocals....some EXACTLY like the EGBDF backing track...but, that's OK with me.
I've noticed that too, here and other youtubes. Ray and Mike's voices are unmistakable.
Simply the best!
I would come home from "partaking" in H.S and throw this side of "Every Good Boy.." on the turntable...Felt I was transported to the English countryside, with the threat of rain.
Brilliant, live!
No put-down to John's falsetto but women's voices on harmony are a big improvement. Beautiful song, John. It always brings me comfort.
Despite the backing track, fricken phenomenal!
quite welcome!
So incredibly beautiful
love this version
Awesome version of a great song. I think this live version is better than the album track. Really great performance. I can't believe I have never seen this played live. I have seen them over 40 times!

i was there
Wow..right on!!!
Another great song that reinforces John Lodge’s talents as a irreplaceable member of the Moodies and a perfect sidekick for Justin.
WOW
One of my first albums
EGBDF
I wish this would have alternated with Isn't Life Strange on tour, just to mix things up. Great song that reaches the boarder line of "trippy"
Sad to not see Ray playing :(
Seen them four times but never seen them do this song live. Norda looks great but I miss Ray.
Good camera work. What is this from?
Looks very professional.
No not anywhere , anytime better than my friends here
Great song. Looks like they used some prerecorded vocals here and there.
Faultless
My band plays this number and I slather on the mellotron!
I see Moodies have found the place" high above the forests in the pastures of the sun where the children learn the secrets we are one!
Compassion solutions 💙💜😁👍
RIP Graeme
I didnt know they even played this song in concert..this didnt last long...nice...you have Candle of Life? lol
Piggy-Pike .. they dusted off Candle of Life around the same time... two of John's best.. actually Candle is a John/Justin song
krisschedler This song was written by John and only John. Anyhow, it was sung by Justin.
hartmutcc63 The verses were sung by Justin. The lead vocals on the choruses were sung by John.
Spent a bit of time learning all the flute parts by ear. Irritated me no end that Tull parts were requested more . Whenever I heard a flute part I set about learning it. Made having to play the damn thing in band tolerable, since I prefer to wait on tenor sax.
