  • The festival was good but did not yield the number of sales I had hoped for. In this video I share how much I spent on preparing for the event, how much I made, and my next steps to help make up the difference.

    When I lived in Overstrand, Norfolk there was an annual garden sale event where loads of people set up stalls selling bits & pieces. Pretty much like a boot sale that spread across the entire village. It was such a great way to meet people, build community whilst also visiting beautiful gardens &, of course, finding unique things to buy. If I were still there now, I'd love to set up an art stall too, I think that would go down so well. I'm so excited to see more of your garden art sale & thank you for showing us the prep with your garden. I loved seeing the birds on the wild flowers, so precious xx

      Stacey, that garden sale event sounds like a dream! Love that. I am already thinking about a good way to document the upcoming walking art fair!

    I've thought of setting up some of my stuff in my driveway, too. I can't afford and don't have time to do art fairs, but I could possibly set up for a Saturday in my driveway. Just curious how you got others in your neighborhood interested in participating, too. I don't know my neighbors very well, so I don't have a lot of contact with them.

    Your honesty is appreciated. I’m really looking forward to the walking art show in your own yard. I love the idea of community coming together, lemonade and art! Getting to know the people in your surrounding area. I love that this has become an organized event that everyone helps out with. I loved seeing the birds in your garden. I wish you the best. Great video.

    Thank you for sharing the ups and downs of the art life, it helps us fellow creatives more than you know! The non-art fair may not have panned out as hoped, but you're moving forward and with new equipment and some good plans. The holidays are coming! Love your wildflower garden ❤🐝🐞🐦❇️🌸

      It is my honor to share the ups & downs. It's so much better to hear the real stuff than the carefully curated story, I think! Anyway, so grateful to have all this work all printed up and ready to go! I predict it's going to be a fruitful set of upcoming sales.

    Love the birds Anne... I think they would make a lovely painting and also the shadow pattern on the ground from the tree... I envy the space in your art studio.... best wishes 🤩

    I applaud your honesty about the show Anne. A lot of artists don't like to share the misses only the wins, but they are both a part of being a full time artist especially if you're in it for the long game. I did many of these events when I first started, and each one taught me lessons. A big lesson was that I realized these shows were not for me and I switched my focus to getting into galleries. It's great that you are doing the outdoor art show in front of your home. I'm sure you will get better results. Cheering you on 🙂

      Thank you so much, Rita! It feels good to keep it real, and not sugar coat things (but also keep things framed positively, because I'm confident it will work out!).
      I hear you about prioritizing gallery representation over sales, fairs, and self-representation. There is something quite appealing about that idea, for sure. I think eventually I'll go that route, but I'm still not ready for many reasons. I've been doing this professionally for almost seven years, which really only feels like a blip. I feel like there's still a lot for me to do solo before developing that kind of relationship with a gallery. I also have not found a gallery in my town that feels like a match yet, a place where I would dearly want to join. That feels important, too. Do you have a gallery(s) you work with now? I would love to hear about how that is going!

      Seven years is definitely just a blip. I've been doing this professionally for over 20 years. It was a different world before social media lol. At one point, I was in 8 different galleries, creating art posters with a publisher and doing all the art shows. I'm with one gallery right now and on a couple of online galleries. Moving forward, I'm wanting more control over my career and am working on my website. I will probably end up doing an art fair in the future. Really focused on getting my channel up and running and it's a fun learning experience. You are definitely a great inspiration for me 😊

    The walking art fair sounds great! Just think you will only have to walk out your front door instead of travelling far away! Your art studio is so organised and looks like a lovely place to work in. I like your planters that are wild around the edges and the new plants should fill up the space nicely!

      Simone, thank you! Yes, I'm very excited to just pop outside and have an art show! It's really the dream. Just realizing I do need to update my website, because people do check artists' sites when deciding their walking routes!

    I run an artist and maker incubator in my region and your show experience is why we try to steer people towards wholesale, gallery shows, online sales, Faire… I doubt the average art buyer or festival goer understands the investment artists make to be there. I applaud you for keeping a great attitude and looking at what’s next!

      Wise of you to direct people away from events like the one I just did! I'm very friendly with the business bureau who puts on the festival, and I'm going to check in with them and help troubleshoot that part of the event to benefit future makers (I am not planning on returning, though). I'm interested in what you said about wholesale. What does this mean? Is it like that frame shop situation I mentioned, where they have offered to sell my totes and prints?

    • @JackieWolven
      @JackieWolven Місяць тому +1

      @@annelivingstonart yes! Circle back to them. They want it to be successful, they just might need some helpful advice.
      Yes, like the frame shop. We help artists develop wholesome pricing, a sales sheet and practice their pitch to go into local and regional stores. In addition, we are currently recommending Faire to attract wholesale accounts across the nation.
