It was unexpected and happened quickly. It took me 4 years to hit the 50k mark and only a month to grow the channel another 50k. I'll never understand the UA-cam algorithm. I think it had to do with the Windows 10 offgrid video a month ago. Either way, I am blessed. Thanks for the support.
A smartphone and a simple tripod go a long ways. I don’t think you give yourself enough credit as to not being very smart. I think you are, you’ve got a lot of great ideas from your commo plans to how you do your field cards and take anywhere notepads. Keep up the great work. Always look forward to your videos. 73
Congrats on 100k! Love all the testing and experiments you’ve done over the last few years. Hopefully, you can find a way to be able to get monetized for all your hard work. 73’s - KI6ZDX
The fact that YT demonetized you is still irksome. Keep up your excellent work, Gaston! I hope one of the experiments the family member and you try 2m SSB in those experiments. Unfortunately, no response when I wrote others to see if they wanted to give it a try. I would love to see the power of using 2m SSB on simplex to make local but longer contacts without any infrastructure.
It still bothers me, but that this is the landscape that we live in. The ARRL reached out recently and asked if I would run ads for them on my channel. While I was honored and would have enjoyed the additional revenue, I opted against it. I support the ARRL, but my fear is that in this "cancel culture," that it could reflect negatively on the ARRL to be attached to that crazy guy, The Tech Prepper. 2m SSB experiments for short range comms are going. I will be benchmarking it against FM.
@@TheTechPrepper I 100% support your decision regarding the ARRL, but for a different reason which I won't get into. You have your own reasons which I very much respect. Thank you for doing that experiment. As I said, still no response and it's an experiment I'd love to run for reasons I mentioned in your BOB video. Even seeing the results would be so great to see. I wonder how much of a difference it could make.
It's hard when you consume other videos and see the fancy editing, lighting and multiple shots. I don't write scripts, but I always have a plan (handwritten notes) on what I want to achieve on each video. Honestly, I really enjoy just talking to the camera and sharing with just a single take. Sometimes there are mistakes, but that's part of this style of content delivery. Thanks for the feedback and take care.
These are apples and oranges and too long to unpack here. DMR is for short-range communication and HF is for short, medium and long range communication. They each have their applications. I use both. For example, I use DMR with encryption with my business license for my area of operation, but then I use HF communication with zero infrastructures to cover: state-wide, regional, and nationwide comms. Search for "No Random Contacts" on my channel.
Thanks Gaston. Can you leverage the 100k subscribers you now have to twist Yaesu's arm and get them to produce a new field radio with your inputs? There's a lot of us that would really like a new/in-production Yaesu that's field ready. Thanks.
Funny that you should mention this. I actually started to write a standard 6-paragraph proposal to Yaesu for a replacement radio shortly after the FT-818ND was discontinued, but I dropped the ball on it and never sent it. I have very specific for a modern, yet simple FT-818ND replacement.
@@TheTechPrepper Roger that, I have heard of people using it with meshtastic but Digirig lite would would sound better because it could be able to run 2Meter so the signal could travel farther than the 915Mhz mesh system
iKey made me 50 units earlier in the year, but they sold out pretty quickly. Your best is the secondary market as I am no longer doing bulk orders and I'm not sure if they sell direct.
@ Thank you for getting back to me! These are difficult to find in secondary markets. I guess a better bet is G1, which seems to have a wider range of modules and accessories available online.
Hey, I’m looking at the FZM1 with 2GB RAM, 64GB hard drive, and a dual-core CPU. Will that be good enough for Skype calls and handling transactions?
Yes, they do. I'll keep it up. Glad to hear that you're finding the field cards useful. The next video will be delayed. 73
Congrats, id like to get into this kind of stuff, but unfortunately don’t have the time to learn or set anything up right now.
Well, all the videos are here for when you have time.
Congrats on 100k! Love all the testing and experiments you’ve done over the last few years. Hopefully, you can find a way to be able to get monetized for all your hard work. 73’s - KI6ZDX
Thanks for the support over the years. More real-world testing coming. 73
There's absolutely nothing wrong with your filming quality. We're here for the content, not a cinematic masterpiece.
You inspire me! Yet I am struggling with motivation. Keep up the videos. Something is coming soon, I fear.
Glad to hear it. More motivational content coming. I have the same feeling. Be safe.
Keep these vids coming! What about posting a 40 meter frequency and contacting as many subs as possible!
That's a good idea. Thanks!
What the difference between long contracts using HF and say DMR? Which is better? Do you do both?
These are apples and oranges and too long to unpack here. DMR is for short-range communication and HF is for short, medium and long range communication. They each have their applications. I use both. For example, I use DMR with encryption with my business license for my area of operation, but then I use HF communication with zero infrastructures to cover: state-wide, regional, and nationwide comms. Search for "No Random Contacts" on my channel.
We don't get one for making cute comments about you are your sweet Ms. The Tech Pepper!! awww man......
I wish... I would give one to every commenter if I could. Thanks for the support.
Congrats on your numbers. Sorry on a fixed income makes it hard to pay the bills. Your channel is worth the dollars if I had it
No need to apologies. You're viewership is support enough. Take care.
Congrats! Been here since 28k. Here's to 150! KQ4LRC
Thanks for the long time support. More the way.
I have very specific for a modern, yet simple FT-818ND replacement.
unrelated topic, but is there a chance you are gonna test ATAK with the digirig lite and see if there is a way to make it work?
Yes, but I don't have a timeline.
@@TheTechPrepper Roger that, I have heard of people using it with meshtastic but Digirig lite would would sound better because it could be able to run 2Meter so the signal could travel farther than the 915Mhz mesh system
I'm curious if the iKey keyboard is available for purchase anywhere today?
iKey made me 50 units earlier in the year, but they sold out pretty quickly. Your best is the secondary market as I am no longer doing bulk orders and I'm not sure if they sell direct.
@ Thank you for getting back to me! These are difficult to find in secondary markets. I guess a better bet is G1, which seems to have a wider range of modules and accessories available online.
Is the CF-20 still good to go for your secret squirrel project?
Yes, it is. We just had an Install Fest in the desert and few guys were running CF-20s.
Hey, I’m looking at the FZM1 with 2GB RAM, 64GB hard drive, and a dual-core CPU. Will that be good enough for Skype calls and handling transactions? I’m not running any games, just need it for calls and web browsing. I’ve seen your models with 8GB RAM and i5 CPUs, but I’m not sure if this lower-spec version will work.
donde puedo conseguir el teclado ese para la tablet FZ-M1????? o tambien le hace el teclado ik-pan-fzm1-c2???
