Outstanding content as usual, Gaston. One point comes to mind... maybe it's just my Utah ears, but I winced every time you said "Zeye ON". I realize that is the correct pronunciation for the mountain in Israel, but here in Utah we say "ZEYE un". I loved you usage of NVIS, also. So critical to have that capability in the canyons where you really have no line of sight anywhere but up. Recently, our local club president (Dan N7XDL) participated in the Pony Express Re-Ride and spent about 27 hours following horses across Utah in his truck, mostly in first gear. He had rigged up an NVIS antenna in the back of the truck and was able to maintain solid contact from the Wyoming border across the state to Nevada the entire time. Dan has a presentation on communications during the Pony Express Re-Ride, but I apparently don't have a recording of it.
Excellent video! I spent 21 years in the U.S. Army and a lot experience with P.A.C.E plans. You are giving us too much credit for being professionals. My comms guys typically just used the last person's plan. I often found that as an Amateur Radio operator, I knew more about radios and antennas than my comms guys did.
Thank you for your service. It sounds like the military can be like some jobs in the public sector where people just re-use deliverables. You just bust my bubble about the RTO.
When planning for an operation in …, I was still really green and naive. I built my Comms P.A.C.E. I got a commendation not because it was a great plan, but because I didn’t do what everyone else normally did, which was just copy what everyone else did.
@TheTechPrepper To be honest, some RTOs were amazing, but they were the exception to the rule in my experience. The real challenge is that many of them are just kids. Therefore, the communications systems have been designed for little adjustment outside of pre-designed settings.
