- In this video I take a look at the Creality Halot One Plus 4K resin 3D printer and how it might be used in our hobby. You can find the printer here: store.creality.com/products/h...
I review the product's features as well as the quality of the prints it produces, trying to focus on subject matters us scale modellers might find interesting: figures, vehicles, and diorama accessories.
The 3D models in this video can be found at the following locations:

Thats just an excellent review mate. I fully appreciate the time and effort you have put into this. Excellent.
Thanks mate - I appreciate your feedback
That’s amazing great machine, great detail. Thanks for the review you did a great job Describing everything !!
Thank you, Andrew. I always find reviews a bit difficult so I appreciate the feedback.
Great video, well explained. Will certainly help in my choice when purchasing a printer.
Thank you, Mike. I'm glad you found it helpful.
A nice look and review of this printer. Think you are the first person to explain the 2k/4k/8k thing
Thanks mate. Yeah, as a computer scientist and general nerd it really bugs me how terms like 4k are misused or promoted in a way that can mislead.
Great video. Thanks for posting.
Thanks - I'm glad you found it useful
Great review
Thank you Jodie
nice review, I'll be getting the One Plus as my next printer,
You'll find supports are easier to remove if you drop the prints into a clear plastic container of hot tap water prior to curing. You can leave the supports in the water and cure the whole thing, filtering the water prior to disposal. I also cure my prints in the water as well. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the tips. Yes, I need to work on the positioning of my supports too, since they often end up in annoying places when using automatic mode.
nice review
Thank you Han
Those G.I. figures chowing down look amazing, would love a set of those. Very informative video, when are you going to paint them, I can wait. 🤗
Thanks Nick. Yes, I was very pleased with them. I hope to be painting them "soon" (after I have finished the Dora and the Rammtiger, at least).
I've also moved to Methylated Spirits for clean up, it doesn't seem (so far) to get "sticky" like IPA does. It also feels like it's easier to "reclaim" ie: put contaminated Meths in a clear 2L bottle and leave out in the sun, after a few repeats it's almost as new
Thanks. Yes, I've been trying to reclaim but with limited success (but to be fair, limited sun too!). I'm also going to try the water washable resin to cheapen cleanup.
Really informative review! I imagine it would be a fairly expensive bit of kit but then I think of the amount of figures and stowage items I buy for my model making hobby as well as the countless detail items I buy for my model railway that it probably would pay for itself in a fairly short time.
As a side note, How bad does the resin smell? Would it be something that would get me banned from printing in the house?
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. A set of oil barrels or street furniture would set you back a good 12 quid each, so it adds up quickly. The slicer software is really good about telling you the cost of each print (you enter the resin base price).
Yes, the smell of the resin is nasty and even if you get the less smelly stuff, it still gives off harmful VOCs. You'd want to do it in a room that is rarely used and that can be well ventilated, for sure. In fact I think resin toxicity is one of the biggest drawbacks.
@@ModelNerd Sounds like it would be a job for the shed.
The figures you printed look really impressive.
Packing environmently friendly when using resins not sure what you're trying to achieve...but a great review very informative thank you
Fair point...resin is nasty stuff. Even the water soluble stuff is no better, despite what a lot of people think.
Cool video as always mate. I have the 8K. Failing miserably at trying to print turrets and larger items at the moment. :(
I have the Mage Pro now too. Very nice printer. What issues are you having?
@@ModelNerd support fails and weird lines on larger stuff. Trying to go back to basics on settings.
I have quite a lot of that too. Sometimes it feels like I can spend every evening for a week sorting out the 3D printer and then still have nothing left at the end to show for it. I think for me a lot of it has to do with temperature - it's cold in my garage.
@@ModelNerd I have a 500W plug in converter heater in the enclosure. I'm initially setting it to 30 then turn it down to around 24-5.
It runs for 12hrs and so you need to remember to "reset" it for longer prints. The enclosure gets to around 28, inside the printer cover to 34-7.
Nice review indeed. Quick question if I was to get from you in 1:35 and 1:72 the set of 6 US figure dining as you shown them in your review of this printer would you be open to this opportunity thank you
Hi Stefano. Normally I would say yes but I don't believe the licence of these models (I bought them from CGTrader) allows me to sell prints of them.
Thanks - great look at the unit from a modeler's perspective. Odd that they no longer provide the Eiffel Tower and Mesh Sphere sample objects. You get those with the LD-002H still.
Thanks. Yeah that is odd.
Hi must say a great vid about this printer Im in the process of wanting to buy one to mainly do 1/48 scale figures, ammunition etc .
What id like to ask is can you buy the file in this scale or do you have to scale yourself ,if so can you show how , cheers
Thank you. Many files will tell you what scale they are in. It is really easy to re-scale things to different sizes though - you can do it in the "slicing software", which is what you have to use to prepare the file for the printer. Printers come with the software and there are free versions online. It's just a single click of a button and entering the percentage change you want (which is easy to calculate). The only potential issue is very thin details in large scales (say 1/16) might become too small to properly print in smaller scales like 1/72. But generally the software deals with it all for you.
@@ModelNerd ok cheers
Any idea when they will be available in the UK? Can't find it anywhere.
I'm told it should be available soon...
@@ModelNerd Hope so. Must be supply issues. No One Pro, One Plus. Just the Sky available at the moment m
(26 * 72) / 35 = 53 mm
the prints you show have been washed already? im mostly afraid of that part, resin is a mess...
Yes, they'be been washed and cured. I didn't film the process because it is super messy and I didn't want my camera in the way
The width of HALOT-ONE PLUS is 172mm,not 200mm
Do you have a source for this? The Creality website states the LCD size as 7.9 inch, which is 200mm.
@@ModelNerd the screen sizes are given as the diagonal size in inches, the build volume is listed as 172*102*160mm
My bad - you're right, of course. Screen sizes are always given as diagonals. Not sure how I let that one slip past :|
Just a comment
for the algorithm
I know nothing about 3D printing and have no immediate use for one but, You have done a fantastic job of describing what it is and what it does. This helped me understand what the hullabaloo about printers is all about. I understand now why a detail modeler would be so enthralled with this machine's capabilities. With good files and a creative brain you can make some fantastic images. Good luck and I hope to see more of your prints. The quality is very good!
Thank you, Michael. My next goal is to learn how to create (simple) objects myself - like the ones we discussed before (road signs etc).
@@ModelNerd You are already on a great trajectory to achieve any thing you may want, Creating files can be tricky though. Good luck with it all.
can you create copies of exisitng models/figures you might have in your stock ?
It'd be a fairly hard process as you'd need to either scan those figures with a 3d scanner or you'd have to be skilled in a 3d design program (or both since scanners aren't perfect)
