Lexus ES Review From a GS Owner

Yep GS for sure is a drivers car. Feels more natural making some subtle mods to the GS over the ES 😁

I agree about the 8 speed. 6 speed trannies in GS feel much more natural to me. I drove a 2023 ES myself and it felt really nice, would never complain to drive a new ES 350.

Thanks for the comparison. I have a 2019 GS as well and love it. Remember that the GS was about another 10k more expensive than the ES. So it should be more upscale.

@@EddieGS350 that's probably why they discontinued it because it was competing with the e s. Most Lexus customers I hear cars for luxury and comfort. So they care less about performance and thus didn't want to pay the extra ten grand for a GS

Great review of the ES! I work at a Lexus dealer, so I drive these ES’s pretty much everyday. The 250 is horrible, absolute dog on the highway with only an NA 4 cylinder, not worth it for the AWD. The 300h is actually incredibly smooth and feels really nice to drive. The 350 though is pretty nice, I really like the F-sports, they handle better then you would think and look spectacular with the LED headlights and proper infotainment. It makes me sad honestly seeing how nice the ES and IS look now and wonder how the 5GS would’ve played out if it ended up coming out. 😢

I would go with the es250 because of the 4cylnder engine and awd. At 59 I have a 15 corolla with 140k miles stay in the right lane and don't go over 50 mph. I'm not in a hurry. Any idea when the first Es250's will be off lease and on CPO. Is a camry a better option for someone like me?

The second gen Toyota Mirai was apparently based heavily on what the next gen GS was supposed to be. Lexus ditched the model, so Toyota took it snd repurposed it. This has been seen before, as the old Lexus CT concept is what heavily influenced the design of the new Corolla hatchbacks.

Glad I am not the only one who thinks the 2 knobs sticking out from above the steering wheel is ugly.😆 The ES just pushes / wheelspins so hard when you accelerate out of a hard turn . . . but that rear seat leg room is really something . .. .
Common refrain that the 8 speed GSs feel abit unwilling to move unless you opened the throttle wide... Those with the older 6 speeds were more enthusiastic despite having 2 gears less. I suspect it's just conservative throttle mapping...or gearing as you say...to try to improve poor fuel economy vs the turbocharged Germans.

Bought the GS 350 2020 knowing it was the last year of the car. The only thing you need to be aware of is the GS requires premium 91 octane which the ES 350 does not.

What is the tire life expectancy for 4Gs f sport awd? The IS is eating through tires every 20 k or so.

AWD is better for sure, you can rotate the tires. But it still is a heavy car. 40k if you baby them.

The ES is marketed towards older drivers like me. I'm 53. My wife is 41 and has the is 350. I enjoy driving her car once in a while, but couldn't drive it everyday. Step up to the 500 if u need more

I own a 2016 GS AWD (Canada) and if you want AWD - we live in the snow belt, so you do - in an ES you need to get the ES 250 4cyl with 203hp vs ES350 with 302hp…big down grade in power. My GS has been a fantastic car and can’t see changing to the ES.

Awesome video thanks for sharing I currently own a 2019 ES350. I used to own a 2014 IS250. I wish I got more features on my ES350. I dunno if this is going with your GS350. I thought my ES350 would get like 400 plus miles to empty when I fill it up. When I fill up my gas tank it only gets like 257 miles to empty. I eventually want to do some upgrades on my ES350. By the way you got my support I just hit the red button. Keep up the great content.

You can get 400+ miles with an ES 350…you just have to do most of the driving on the highway. I can easily get 32 m/us gal with my 2014 and 110,000 miles on the clock…but get it in stop-and-go traffic and that rapidly drops to 24-26 mpg or even less…it is a heavy car. The other thing to recognize is that the low fuel light comes on when it indicates only 20 miles to go but there is still around 3-4 gallons in the tank..,on the highway I can go another 50-70 miles before “sucking fumes”. On a cross country trip last summer I drove 8,300 miles and averaged 30.5 mpg (including some heavy rain, city and sight-seeing touring). With a 17 US gal tank, that’s about 500 miles per tank but that is extreme and I’d never run the tank that low.

I'm a current 2016 GS owner & have driven the ES several times & hated it compared to the GS as it feels like a slightly nicer Camry as I would much rather buy a Camry than the ES. The interior while much older on the GS has much better materials & I like the layout better as well. The ES has a softer ride & seats. The GS feels very firm in comparison, but is still comfortable & smooth & dare I say even more solid feeling.

Ahhh yeah. It felt good coming back to my GS. One of those feel like home moments. My GS feels so stable and firm on freeways. Looking forward to improving the suspension on it. The 2017 is the softest year.

Love my 2018 GS, but after 37k miles there is a spot weld issue that isn’t covered into year 5 of ownership. Lexus, you can do better.

I modded my gs with triple beam lights, carbon fiber spoiler, nia body kit, and the updated rear lexus logo from the newer is and es. I think it looks better than the newer model lexus sedans. The only lexus that takes 1st place in the looks dept is the lc.

Ahh yeah. GS is the most balanced looking car. There are aspects of the ES and IS that I like but the GS just incorporates all of Lexus styling so well.

The GS accepted an eight cylinder. So there was more distance between the front door and the front wheel well. The GS is longer.

Yeahh this review was rushed lol. They are very similar. Sound insulation is a tad better in the GS. Suspension is about the same (both very comfortable) GS does have a f sport mode which is firmer. Keep in mind the 2013-2015 and 2019-2020 are a tad bit firmer than the 2016-2018. You get most of the comfort with the ES at a lower price.

Thanks for this video! I have a white 2015 F sport. Was wondering what percent tint do you have? My local laws prohibits anything darker than 70% on front windows so I was thinking of putting 50% rear and 70% front. Noticed you have two different chases as well.

Ahh the previous owner tinted mine. If I had to guess it would be 30 or 50 in rear and none or 70 in front. I think you hit the nail on the head. The 70/50 tint will look best for a white GS imo. The white paint and chrome pieces near the window will blend well with the transparency of 50% tint while making it look more aggressive. Lower tint would look better on a darker gs but for a white one I think you got the right idea 😁

It’s spelled appearance lol. By the way, my 2015 GS350 has that smell too. I tried using Lysol spray in the vents. Scotty Kilmer recommended it and it worked kinda. I want to eventually get the Toyota AC refresher kit which works better.

Yeahh. I tried Lysol and another AC cleaning product. I think the intake doesn’t get all the way down the coils. And yeahhh. I was gonna fix the spelling while editing and I forgot 😂

Don’t use the recycle on AC and you won’t have a problem in the first place. That auto-recycle when the cabin temp is high is a dumb idea.

Ahhhh what’s funny is I got the ES as a loaner while doing my transmission change. I can’t do it on my driveway cause it is too sloped 😭 I tried but jacking 4 wheels at a time felt sketch.

I heard that transmission fluid should be left for life. As the shavings apply pressure on your worn tranny. Once you remove the shavings +less pressure= slipping

Es is amazin.. love the location of the sport mode , they say its designed by race car drivers. Gs is amazin but only Supreme gas, lol i chose the es. When i travel i dump 87 gas in it, cant do that with the gs. My 2020 doesnt have touch screen but thats perfectly fine. The car gets the job done perfectly without all the extra fancy stuff that really don't matter.
