      You forget that Lexus has benefits not afforded by Toyota. The service experience compared to Lexus is different depending on what gets done including loaner cars, concierge service and more. All depends on what you want.

      What he said. Service is different. Also. Some lexus parts are built tougher and are a slight upgrade. Finally, and you might find it odd, Toyota has a higher resale value. Although the same, people perceive Toyota as more reliable and lexus as expensive to maintain.

      If you put all the $10,000 extras that make a Avalon a Lexus ES on the ground and really look at them. Are all those parts just laying there really worth the $10,000?

    The stereo is important to me. The base stereo in both the ES and Avalon does not meet my needs. It's pretty easy to find a 1200 watt JBL installed in a Limited or Touring. By contrast, finding a Mark Levinson 1800 watt system installed in anything other than a top trim level ES is nearly impossible. Though the ML is better, you're gonna be looking at an over 50K loaded ES F Sport to get that sound system. Crazy the back seats in the ES don't fold down. I think the triple beam head lights on the ES look great, and I prefer the ES exterior styling. The 19 inch wheels and adaptive variable suspension make the ES F Sport the only natural comparison to the Avalon Touring. Problem is the ES F Sport interior is either ugly red or black. That grey (graphite) interior color on the Avalon is beautiful. Avalon is a bargain.

    I'm honestly not surprised the Avalon won here.
    The Avalon, with it's sexier, elegant, grown-up, mature, and more cohesive look (the ES still looks great though, a baby LS), driving dynamics that felt significantly more enjoyable (the ES's drive was still pretty enjoyable too though) while feeling faster (let alone 0-60 in 5.6 seconds) while feeling as isolated and comfortable, a lot more standard tech features, while adding some additional desirable features that aren't found in the ES (such as heated rear seats, 60/40 folding rear seats, 4-way lumbar for driver and passenger, the beautiful progressive turn signals, and more to name a few), roomier feeling interior that's about as luxurious, etc.
    While the ES would be a great alternative to say, a more luxurious feeling Camry, or even yet a mid-size Avalon (and while it is still a great vehicle for what it is), the only thing you're really paying 10K extra for is the Lexus badge in my personal viewpoint. The Avalon is honestly as nice for less money, while giving you significantly more for it too. When I tested it out, I was so blown away that I seriously was in the mood dreaming of considering a 2019 Avalon Touring with all of the options available. It was that good, the only major issue I had with it is the lack of Android Auto, until I personally would even consider it perfect. It's honestly the best alternative to a luxury sedan with mind-blowing immense value for the buck.
    Vehicles like the new Avalon is what I want to see from Toyota. It's honestly Toyota's best vehicle in latest memory in my opinion as a whole. Kudos to them!

      The overall refinement, build quality and smoother ride is always noticeable in the Lexus from the different models I have owned and driven compared to their Toyota counterparts. I know it's anecdotal, but I upgraded (in Australia) from an 07 TRD Aurion to an 08 Lexus GS450H recently and the difference in drive quality is remarkable. The GS450H is like driving on a cloud while the Aurion felt like any other generic sedan of it's type comparing driving experiences.

    The European/Japanese ES gets better options than the USDM model. You can't get heated rear seats or reclining rear seats on the USDM model. JDM version has camera mirrors. The avalon is a better package. I mean your looking at $52k MSRP for a loaded ES vs 43k msrp for the loaded Avalon. For second hand, the Avalon limited I can find is for $35k and 11k miles vs es 350 ULTRA LUXURY at $45k with 3k miles.

I sold it and got the 2019 XSE Avalon...but the Toyota dealership I got it from...let's just say they Had to buy it back after me having it almost 3 weeks...Nothing wrong with the car for me except the grill but I was going to just deal with it....The GM bought it back because they messed my paperwork work up and then they started messing up my add on's so bad that they had to start ordering parts or either fixing things that they messed up...my car didn't even smell or feel new anymore...needless to say...my husband loved the leg room in it...but I didnt care lol....just so happen he went with me to get the Lexus because we have no Lexus dealership here....and low and behold The leg room to him is the same in the 2018 Lexus 350 as the 2019 Avalon XSE. Let me tell you this....there is nothing in that Avalon that's not in the ES 350....I was shocked...the screen on the Avalon looks huge because of how they got it but to me the screen itself is the same size as the Avalon...I haven't missed the Avalon at All...I'm glad too because I really didnt want to feel like I should have went to another Toyota dealership to get another black on black 2019 XSE. Now the speed in the Avalon is a little faster than the Lexus only because I purchased the 2018...the 2019 has more speed like the Avalon....but as I told my husband I'm not into speed like that....I hope this helps some. The leg room was the only reasons I didn't go with the Camry was they didn't have the white and black front to back sunroof with red interior and the leg room on the lot that day.

Both vehicles are a lot better and more reliable when made in Japan even though you don't see many Toyotas made in Japan anymore.. You get a better warranty with Lexus as well.. I purchased a 2003 Camry that was made in America that was terrible... Did the required maintenance but had to have the engine replaced and brake issues etc.. was a big disappointment ! The car definitely was not up to usual Toyota standards ! In addition the maintenance program on the Lexus is a lot better because they give you a loner car if they ever have to keep your vehicle overnight or longer.. Compared to other luxury brands Lexus cost less to maintain

We all went to the car show that year and she spent the entire time there walking back and forth between the Toyota and Lexus displays. My friend pointed out that the Avalon, a car she had totally ignored up to this point, was very similar to the Lexus she was looking at for significantly less money. Long story short, she bought the Toyota and has been very happy with it. She also saved a lot more than the $1,400 dollar difference you had in this review.

    Ill say im happy with how this video turned out. It's no surprise these days that the full size sedan segment is pretty much making sure they're called "flagships" for a reason. The 2016 Maxima I think started the trend of super upscale interiors. Definitely no comparisons to be made by competitors back in 2016 or 17. Glad to see Toyota step up to the challenge and even sneak in an extra 1 horsepower just to say they did it. I would take an Avalon over an ES all day and that'll most likely stand until Lexus figures out what to do with that touch pad... it's just a huge downside. Sometimes it's not so bad to just be like everybody else. Make a nice, high quality knob that rotates and moves in a nice, satisfying way and boom, you can begin to justify a Lexus over an Avalon. That logo up front isn't good enough for smart people buying cars... we gotta go where the bargain is. If your mainstream brand is more luxurious than your luxury brand. Fix that lol

      I actually liked the joystick. I like the screen being far back so you don’t have to look down from the road to see navigation and stuff. I am less fond of the touch pad.
      I find with Touch screens I am always reaching forward to press buttons. I don’t have to do that with the joystick.

    • @devongee1776
      @devongee1776 6 місяців тому

      @@djplonghead5403 reaching forward yes, but you're getting the task don't significantly faster when you can just use your finger. Many automakers excused their choice for not going touch, because they deemed it safer to interact with while driving. I'd argue the fact it takes longer means your attention is diverted for longer periods which doesn't really seem or sound any safer to me. I'd rather just do what I wanna do nearly instantly and be back at full attention ahead as fast as possible. You as the driver are responsible for deciding when a good time to mess with your screen would be. Shouldn't be the manufacturers imo.
      This is before you even get to the other, maybe even the dominant fact on the ground. All of these cars had adaptive cruise control back then and most new cars sold today have the feature or option the feature. . . This was GOING to happen. So it's not blatantly unsafe to look a little lower on your dash when your car is braking for you and making sure to keep that safe distance from the car up ahead. It was a bad decision back then that they went with the less efficient route. It's worse that new cars to this day are doing it. Acura for example, still a touch pad. Mazda's are still only touch screens when they're using Apple Carplay. Or when the car is parked I believe it can be used by touch as well. All unnecessary.

    Fun comparison as I just went through the decision my self and opted for the Avalon Hybrid Limited w/ Advanced Safety pkg (the only option as it if FULLY equipped already). MSRP $45.582. Similarly equipped Lexus ES300h Ultra Luxury model, FULLY equipped would be would be about $53-55K. Both cars local dealers were offering ~$2,200K discount. The Avalon was in stock w/ exact colors I wanted so went w/ that. Lexus wasn’t & an order would take 6-8 wks they said. I probably would have gotten the Lexus if it were in stock.
    The touch screen on Avalon might be easier to operate than the mouse on the Lexus. Entune is clearly 2nd rate compared to BMW’s & Audi’s.

    Good video but you failed to mention driving the ES is so smoother and quieter than the Avalon. The ES can take bumps in the road with ease while the Avalon you need to grab on to the steering wheel a bit and hold on. Either way, they are both good cars, it just depends on your budget and what you are looking for when you drive.

  • @3IS2UR
    @3IS2UR 6 років тому +21

    Lexus is slightly different in the chassis even though a lot of the component are the same. They added extra braces around the ES so that it makes it rides and handles better than the Avalon and that's the reason ES don't have 60/40 folding rear seats. Also don't know if this is true or not but the Lexus have more laser welds when compared to the Toyota, also not mention in there is the Avalon does not have Panoramic Roof while the ES have it with the higher trims. Sound system wise ES have 10-speaker, 296-watt Pioneer audio system that comes standard, but an 1,800-watt, 12-channel Mark Levinson system is optional. The Avalon's 14-speaker, 1,200-watt JBL system is standard on the top two Limited and Touring trims and is available as a $680 audio upgrade on the XLE and XSE

    I completely agree with the comparison, and it was an eye opener for me. For the price of ES 350, you can get a Porsche Macan ($49,950) or a Mercedes SUV GLB. Lexus increased the price on the ES a lot, and it cannot compete with other premium cars on tech and value. ES does not even have LED headlight as standard, you have to pay extra for it, wat kind of "luxury" car does not have LED headlight? For me, the deal breaker is the big hump over the instrument panel, it restricted my view and I think it is a safety hazard.

      For some reason, the current LS was a disappointment. It was rated as one of Consumer Reports top buy but the current LS500 sits at the bottom of the Large Luxury segment. It seems Lexus ruined their sweet formula when they tried to make their sedans more sporty and aggressive. I wonder if the removal of the V8 in favor of a turbo V6 played a big role in this.

      I used to think that but you have to look deeper, I know that design is subjective (I prefer the Lexus over the Toyota), look at the little detail like how the temperature slides instead of flicker, the little clock, the texture on the leather, the fit and finish and others smaller detail. Yes if you want a car to just drive from point A to B those my not worth a cent to you, but I love car design, I'm on the road for hours everyday and when you spend that much times inside a car those little detail can be important!
