If you have one of these and live in a very cold environment, say where the temperature can drop to -25 degrees, you will need to first heat up the battery with hot air from your cars heater (direct on floor) if under seats, in order to get a proper charge. This may add about 15-20 minutes to the time for a full charge.
Thank you for your insight. Living in a mild climate, I sometimes forget that viewers like yourself might subject the battery to more harsh conditions. I'm sure others will find your comment useful.
If you don't always need parking mode (such as when parking overnight in one's own secured garage), would turning off the power button on the B-130X prevent discharge? The only downside to that, I believe, is you have to to turn the B-130X power back on for the dash cam to work the next time the vehicle is driven.
I use the BlackVue 900x 2ch. I currently use the B-124x and have it daisy-chained to 1 B-124e expansion battery. My problem is that my daily commute to work is about 15 minutes so I never drive long enough to ever fully charge the batteries. Just being totally honest, but I actually had better luck before I started using the backup batteries and just used the battery saver function in the app to power down my camera when the car battery hit about 11 volts. It wasn't perfect, but I got much more recording time way. With my current setup, I find myself remote starting my vehicle periodically to give my dash cam batteries a little boost. Otherwise, my backup batteries will totally deplete. I don't think upgrading to B-130x will help me. Not sure what route to take.
Sean, you're in a tough position. In your situation, you might be right. Using the camera's parking mode might be the better option as your commute isn't long enough to fully charge the battery pack. I highly doubt you want to drive more just to charge it up.
@@TheAutomotiveFanatic I think I figured it out. I was REALLY taxing the backup batteries in parking mode. I decreased the parking motion detection to 1 while increasing all parking g sensor detection settings to 8. I'm also using "motion and impact detection" instead of timelapse in parking mode. I made sure to edit the motion detection region settings for the front and rear cameras. I only care about motion really close to my vehicle. When I left for work today, the batteries were at 0% and I only charged up to 18% during my short drive. It has been 7 hours now and the cameras are still up.

My B130X battery is hardwired using the cigarette power so it takes 90 Minutes to get fully charged. But problem is I drive 30-40 Minutes at work and same amount of time going home. 30-40 Minutes Drives gives me 50-60% power about 7-8 Hours Parking Mode. When it’s time to go home B130X is zero so back to 90 Minutes to fully charge but again driving home is only 30-40 Minutes. So I learn new trick. When I drive to work I get about 50% Charge then I turn the Battery off knowing I’m park in a safe place at work. Then when I drive home another 30-40 Minutes so Switch on the B130X by the the time I get home I’m fully charged. I guess the beauty of B130X is the switch off capability. Only turn it On if you really needed it or park in a area where you know things could happen.
@@TheAutomotiveFanatic I actually ended up getting a deep cycle axillary battery and an isolator. My truck can stay parked for a few days now with plenty of charge for the cameras to function.
From my understanding, the battery has it's own BT connection which pairs with the app. Hence, it's difficult for it to directly connect with the dashcam itself to report battery percentage. That would be an exceptional feature though!
@The Automotive Fanatic the battery doesnt connect to the app, it connects to the phone and regardless bluetooth 5.0 allows more than one connection And even if they cant connect via bluetooth, they should make a battery model (which extension pack capabilities) that hardwires to the camera to show the battery percentage
Hello, I’ve never owned dash cams or battery packs before and have no clue on cars and hardwiring, but I’ve been reading up on them. I’m planning to get the Power Magic Battery Pack B-112 instead of B-130X, with the DR770X Box dash cam set; I don’t plan on hardwiring and only using the cigarette lighter charger. I hope you don’t mind answering my questions. When the battery pack is used and cams are in parking-mode would you take the cigarette charger out? Should I unplug the battery pack if it’s fully charged or leave it attached? Can I erase any footage from the memory card for more space or do they usually overwrite? I see that there’s another comment asking about the “always on power circuit” and “ignition only circuit”, if you don’t mind, would you please explain what these are? Are these for the hardwiring?
Hello Amy and welcome to my channel. You have asked some great questions so I'll do my best to be concise with answers. - depending on your cigarette lighter's power supply (always on or accessory on) you may have to pull the plug out when you leave your vehicle - for re-write ability, it's included under your settings feature. You can also change it to NOT re-write. - always on power circuit/ignition only circuit reviews to the power being feed to your cigarette lighter. If it's an always on circuit, your plug will be powering the B112 ALL THE TIME. This isn't wise because it could and will drain your main battery. If it's an ignition only circuit, that means your cigarette lighter will only remain on, when the "ignition" is switched on. Ideally, this is what you want. You DO NOT want to drain your mina 12V battery.
@@TheAutomotiveFanatic Hello again, I'm back after receiving the BlackVue DR770X Box. Hey I have a question for you. I am going to wire up my DR900X Plus 2CH soon. Does this camera have a 3 minute ignore window built in after the ignition is turned off (when hardwired) for parking mode so you don’t get false alarms if you getting out of the car and closing the doors? The DR900X (non plus) got this on firmware 1.007 but the 900X plus was brought out after this was released so I think it may just be already part of its firmware from factory but just wanted to check. If it doesn’t do it I will wire it up from the cig lighter so it uses its accelerometer and start parking mode after 5 minutes
Great question Dave. I believe the 900X Plus does have a timed delay. For example, when I turn the ignition off, a few mins later, the system mentioned something about it recording on or off. Is this what you're referring to? A delay?
@@TheAutomotiveFanatic yes that’s exactly it. It basically ignores any notifications for the first 3 minutes, this gives you enough time to get out of the car and close all the doors without it thinking those are impacts and then giving you false alerts when you get back to your car hours later about a impact notification (when it was just you getting out of the car)
