When someone calls out religions for being hypocritical, they aren't pointing a finger at everyone who engages with the faith. Just those that perpetuate the hypocrisy. Which nobody can deny. Tool is spiritual. What they have ranted most about is the man made construction and manipulation of faith. Maynard has questioned God as all have and probably settles on the belief that it's beyond human comprehension. Just my 2 cents worth. ✌️
Agree! I took the meaning as the White Man devastated the Native Americans through greed, and at the same time, they sent "God Men" a/k/a Men of God to teach the Native Americans about God, Christianity, etc. Then the White Man said, "oh, by the way, I really,, really, REALLY, like your land." The rest is the proverbial history of the settlement of the US.

Tool is one of the most unique, creative bands out there. Everyone in this band is a technical genius at what they do. I hope you do more of their music. The lead singer likes to point out the hypocrisy of most organized religion because his father was overbearing, abusive and claimed to be a Christian yet ran out on him and his mother as a child after his mom had a bad stroke and became an invalid in a wheelchair. He really goes after Scientology even more though. You should check out Aenema with lyrics.
He also had issues because he watched his mom (who apparently was a religious lady) slowly die of cancer. He didn't understand why this loving and benevolent thing that is supposed to be God would put his mother through that. That's what 10,000 days and Wings for Marie were about.
“Vicarious” would be a great one to do off the same album. It calls out society for sitting at home feeling safe while simultaneously living through their tvs and craving stories of violence and death to both entertain them and reinforce their feelings of safety
The Tool fandom is no joke. They dropped their last album within a week after Taylor Swift released hers and every song on that album hit #1. Swift fans were pissed because it knocked her off a little bit. It was hilarious watching videos of teenage girls being angry asking "Who the hell is Tool!?"
@@rahbeat9785 I'd rather be a Tool fan. At least what they do is good art. That's far better than being a fan of the mass produced shlock which is Swifts music.
@@rahbeat9785 At 54 years old, I’ve seen that happen with a lot of truly great bands where fans get so FANatical it goes to their heads and they start trashing everything else. In the early 80’s I was in HS and broke up a fist fight between two dudes in my class who were arguing over whether VH or AC/DC was the better band. That shit is subjective, so it comes down to the listener and what you like better, what matches yr headspace.. and that can change over the years. I wasn’t a close friend of either of those guys, but was telling em “damn, I like BOTH bands, for different reasons!”. But also let em know they were scaring these chicks nearby, and were about to draw heat on us from a teacher who was a badass Vietnam Vet. TOOL fans can be pretty aggressive and sorta “cultish” (for lack of a better word). They totally deserve the following and the strong fan base, but wouldn’t likely get along with many of their fans who are dicks to anyone else cause they love the band. Tools music is plenty strong enough to stand on its own cred without trashing other acts out there. Grateful Dead fans were a similar way back in the 80’s. A lot of people turned off from them because of the fans.
One of the other meanings floating around about the song is the hypocrisy in the court system and how they will hand out harsh sentences for minor drug charges like possession of pot while most judges, lawyers and other members of the justice system are guilty of way worse shit. Great reaction! I recommend checking out the song Lateralus or the Grudge. Both are great songs
Fr, the Tool love here was beautiful from 4 out of 5 of them. I was a little disappointed that homie in the middle checked out after he took the song's meaning personally. He was jovial about it sure but his entire presence changed when he was initially head bopping and then just kind of dipped out mentally after finding out the meaning behind the track had something to do with religion. Tool isn't attacking anyone's personal faith, they are just shining a much needed light on all kinds of hypocrisy and if you don't see it in organized religion, that light is more for you than anyone else. That doesn't mean you have a change anything about your faith, it just gives you the information you can choose to use to manifest change from within your own religious community and call out that hypocrisy when you see it. Tool are not anti-religion, they just want to make the world a better place by informing and providing us with the knowledge necessary to achieve that collective goal.

Tool is a genre of its own. The pot is interpreted in many ways by different people and that’s the whole meaning of Tool, to get you to think for yourself. To be it’s basically about all hypocrisy. It’s filled with double and triple idioms. For example “the pot calling the kettle black” but there is another old idiom of “not having a pot to piss in” hence, when you pissed on my black kettle. And there are sooooo many more. And to throw in it’s a Kangaroo Court, meaning when Kangaroo done hung the jury with the innocent. The whole song is one big idiom.

Some background for you guys- "10,000 Days" was the album this song was on, and I'd also the number of days that frontman Maynard's mom upheld her battle against cancer. Over the course of that process, the church community that she dedicated her life to essentially casted her out rather than supporting her. The community and family she dedicated her life to shunned her. Many emotions and themes can be found in this album that pertain to that.
I really love that y’all listen to different music with an open mind & even look up the information about the songs & your reactions & opinions are really interesting & fun ❤ I’m a huge TOOL fan & so happy y’all tried it out ❤

Yes!!! Tool is one of the most intelligent bands I've ever heard. I gotta couple fun reactions for you: 46 & 2 is a popular Tool song, the underlying meaning is fascinating and a little research beforehand is recommended before you delve. THEN watch some kids do it justice from the O'Keefe Music Foundation, 'Kids Cover 46 & 2 by Tool'. It's so good, I still watch it now and then. Fun reaction guys! 😁

Forty six & 2 is a banger! Laterals follows the mathematical Fibonacci Sequence (golden ratio). These guys are amazing and deep. Seen them live twice and was blown away. The lead singer owns a vineyard too.
Tool transcends all genres. I hope you guys appreciate the complexities of how the music is written (I’m sure you do) but with the polyrhythms and meter changes shows their pure talent. Thanks for doing Tool and please do more.
Hey guys. I was just watching some videos and thought Foo Fighters, The Pretender live at Wembley Stadium would be a great video. You guys did the official music video of the song before. Live at Wembley is awesome. Loving the reactions. Keep it up.
gawl dern you already got 5k views in one hour thats crazy! "You guys will love Right in Two" as a fellow christian youll definitely go hmmm with this one! Its basically a song about the history of mankind from our beginning to now from the perspective of an Angel who has been sitting up there in Heaven watching us the whole time! He trying to figure us out why we do the things we do and why does god love us more then him! He trying to understand why father gave us free will and not him! ITS DEEP lol My personal favorite from this album 10,000 days!
Loving all these reactions guys! You should check out the band sabaton! A lot of us, myself included, are a percentage Native American. I myself am 25%. My grandma was 100% Cherokee, my dad 50%, me 25%, while my mother is black. So I'm this rare 75% black 25% Native American mix.
Great reaction. There's another interpretation of the song, that they're criticizing the government, police, and lawyers for their hypocritical stance on "pot" use.
Good job guys, this song is on my playlist and I listen to it everyday. Tool Isn't a ride it's a journey of masterpiece lyrics and music composition. It's always a good idea to look up the meanings of titles and lyrics before you dive in. Looking forward to seeing more reactions from Tool...
If you guys wanna experience some classic prog metal I'd recommend Dream Theatre as a great starting point. 'Pull Me Under' is prolly their most accessible song!
You don't have to be a victim to recognize an injustice and be angered by it. I don't know if any members of tool are Native American but as I have stated, they don't have to be Native American to know what was done was wrong and feel anger about it, and in this case it has another layer of wrong in the fact that the U.S. government deems itself morally righteous enough to decide what is right and wrong and deemed itself worthy to pass judgment upon us even with all blood on the hands of the politicians running the government.
Tool is probably the smartest and most artistically talented band of the last 30 years. Their whole catalog of songs are worth a listen here. You can listen to their songs a thousand times and for decades and still find new aspects and avenues of their music and lyrics to get into and discover. I recommend listening to Aenima, Intolerance, and The Grudge on this channel.
I think the meaning they're referencing about the meaning of this song isn't the only interpretation. Yes the pot calling the kettle black and hypocrisy is the main theme. But it's also about drug use. How some will go out and make marijuana (the pot) illegal but at the same time get so high off other drugs like prescription or use alcohol. It's hypocritical condemn marijuana use and advocate for imprisonment of those who use it while being totally fine with alcohol being legal and there being a more dangerous prescription drug problem in this country.

Over the course of that process, the church community that she dedicated her life to essentially casted her out rather than supporting her. The community and family she dedicated her life to shunned her.
Many emotions and themes can be found in this album that pertain to that.
I was going to say all this, thank you for beating me to it 🤘🏻
Also, A Perfect Circle’s “Judith”.
It is the number of days that she lost use of her legs - referenced on several songs.
How do we know they actually cast her out though?
Same with the album opiate
I really love that y’all listen to different music with an open mind & even look up the information about the songs & your reactions & opinions are really interesting & fun ❤ I’m a huge TOOL fan & so happy y’all tried it out ❤
First of all you guys are awesome.. all of you.. you’re going to hit 500k easily! Secondly TOOL is a group of amazing musicians.. you experience them.. 46&2… 7empest.. amazing. Saw Slipknot the other day.. youHAVE to watch their official video of “ Before I forget”… you’ll love it .. promise.. and they have their masks off.. song is a banger.. I look forward to you guys everyday.. you all have great chemistry..
I do think Before I Forget is my favorite slipknot song.
As for Tool.
Songs that absolutely rock:
Sober, 46 and 2, and Pneuma
I mean there are a lot of other great songs, but in regards to picking the absolute bangers, those are them.
I like the O'Keefe cover better than the original. So Epic.
42 and 2 is deep.... very interesting
Watching this with lyrics is a must.
Tool is my favorite band they're so good yall should do vicarious next or 46&2
My favorite band! So different and creative and they have the greatest drummer (Danny Carey) of all time!
Just now watching and in just love how much deeply you interpret this gem of a song. Love your song reviews/first time listens
Tool. I never miss the show when they are in town. The art, lasers, visuals, and the music. Worth every penny.
Love your reactions guys, keep it going.
FYI, find lyric videos for TOOL songs. It helps.
More good stuff from them
Forty Six & Two
Eulogy
Aenima
Parabol/Parabola
Right in two
Part of me
Omg yesssss! I love that y'all listened to The Pot. The lyrics are soo good...one day y'all need to watch the video for this song with the giant snails lol it's epic...if ya want more Tool songs listen to Schism, Pneuma, Stinkfist, Lateralus, The Grudge....i can go on and on lol also Maynard is in another band called A Perfect Circle and one of their best songs is Judith.
I'm a Christian, and I love the song Judith, but I know the meaning behind it. Not sure these guys will give it a chance.
@@Thesilvercrayon yea i thought about that after i suggested it. Hopefully they do give it a listen and learn the backstory so that they can maybe understand why he wrote it.
My absolute favorite Tool song🎧🎤🕪❤ so happy to see you all branching out. It says a lot about you all. That's why I love your page.
They ROCK. And sound that good live. Seriously talented thanks guys
Vicarious and Aenema are both fantastic Tool songs
Forty six & 2 is a banger! Laterals follows the mathematical Fibonacci Sequence (golden ratio). These guys are amazing and deep. Seen them live twice and was blown away. The lead singer owns a vineyard too.
Tool transcends all genres. I hope you guys appreciate the complexities of how the music is written (I’m sure you do) but with the polyrhythms and meter changes shows their pure talent. Thanks for doing Tool and please do more.
I love your vids, you guys are awesome. peace and love!!
YES!! More Tool reactions, please!! I suggest 46 & 2, The Grudge, Descending, and Aenema. Loving this channel!
I’m so glad to see you do more Tool!! 46 and 2 please!
Loving all these reactions guys! You should check out the band sabaton! They're a super popular swedish band most of their songs are in English they sing about famous heroes battles and events that really happened in history and it sounds amazing. I guess the genre would be power metal. Anyways love the channel guys!
these lyrics are fantastic
More TOOL pls! I recommend listening to “Lateralus.” It’s one of my favorites. Great reaction!😄
TOOL is more of an experience..... they definitely get you thinking and open your mind to a deeper conversation about life and things... they really are an amazing band! You guys should do more...
I wouldn't put too much stock in that interpretation guys. ✌️
A lot of us, myself included, are a percentage Native American. I myself am 25%. My grandma was 100% Cherokee, my dad 50%, me 25%, while my mother is black. So I'm this rare 75% black 25% Native American mix.
Glad you guys got to this one. Great song with amazing lyrics.
I’m another new subscriber! Keep up the great work gentlemen! Keep digging on the band tool! I’ve no doubt you’ll like them even more!
Great reaction. There's another interpretation of the song, that they're criticizing the government, police, and lawyers for their hypocritical stance on "pot" use.
You guys need to do Pneuma by them (if you haven't already) - LIVE, and do the drummer cam - Danny Carey rocks the hell out!
Yep
Already did that
they did it like a week ago ua-cam.com/video/fsipEx12P68/v-deo.html
Cool, I'll look it up (very limited data keeps me from doing alot of exploring). Sorry Guys. PAX!
I can’t believe you guys finally made this reaction! I have commented for you guys to do this song. I love watching y’all’s videos! ♥️
Tool Army here ! do more tool . You guys do a wonderful job. Tool are all master musicians. This is the ride that will open you guys mind.
The bassline on this one is funky, love it
46 & 2 is probably the deepest song ever. Need to do it. Or Ænema
Rosetta Stoned is a must, but definitely have the lyrics on the screen during the song. It's a story like song and it's a freaking trip!
like the video before i even watched it. Probably my favorite tool song ever!
Yes! Tool is amazing! The lead singer has another band called “A perfect Circle” and a good song from them is “The Noose”
The Grudge is a wonderful song by Tool too.
I want to see their reaction to the scream 😂
Tool is probably the smartest and most artistically talented band of the last 30 years. Their whole catalog of songs are worth a listen here. You can listen to their songs a thousand times and for decades and still find new aspects and avenues of their music and lyrics to get into and discover. I recommend listening to Aenima, Intolerance, and The Grudge on this channel.
hahaha when you threw your cap down and said , "I am butthurt!" I spit out my drink laughing! You guys rock!
Tool Aenima good song to do.
A banger... 🎼🎵😎🎵🎼
Thank you for posting.
You don't have to be part of a specific group to hate the injustices they have faced. We all walk this earth. It'd help if we could learn to share it.
Been waiting for this one!
yes we love tool. ALL of it
vicarious is my favorite
Tool is the greatest band in history, shit gets real deep
I'd say start with the more main stream stuff then slowly get into their deeper catalogue.. awesome band.
Forty Six & Two next i'd say
if you want to see something really crazy watch Daney Carey play Pneuma Live, its amazing!
This is one of my favorite songs ever.
My favorite Tool song! Great choice! Check out "Third Eye" it's a great example of the "progressive" side of the band.
Very talented band.
Gentlemen, I found this channel by coincidence looking for hip hop diss tracks. Your takes are awesome and have made me a fan! BUT, doing this TOOL song has made me a subscriber! If there is anything I can share with you it's to GO AND SEE ONE OF THEIR SHOWS LIVE! YOU WON'T REGRET IT! I look forward to more of your content.
These guys are my favorite!! Thank u guys!!!
