A long time ago i saw you do the golf swing takedown and I've tried many times while in sparring but i didnt really get the concept. Here it shows more. Awesome! I'm going to try it again. To be far, ive tried it against Sensei, so thats probably also why it didnt work for me. 😅
Think about pulling their hip in a way that would make them want to step forward to catch their balance, but you are then also pulling the foot out from under them like slipping on a banana peel all in one movement.
When Islam hit this takedown on Dustin all my friends were like “woah I’ve never seen that so cool” I was like bro I hit that in sparring cause of Ramsey Dewey
For us Sanda fighters catching the leg is literally the setup for half of our techniques 😅 there are so many takedowns from catching foot that the hard part is to decide in the blink of an eye which of them you'll do.
Just when I thought I was a certified martial arts nerd I came across your golf club swing. It really is surprising to me because in our Sambo we learned many many unorthodox attacks to the legs yet completely skipped over the golf swing. It's also troubling to me since we had some great wrestlers in the city come and train with us in our sambo and the golf swing is part of the standard wrestling curriculum and yet they still completely passed by it somehow. It really is a thing where just when you think you know a lot you end up learning more. I've never really been strong with single legs, however, though it seems to be the bee's knees in grappling today. Which some people find odd since I'm one of the heavier guys in our team, and because of that, they just assume you have to steamroll everybody. They're also some really easy and amazing counters to the single leg that I'm really surprised haven't been seen more in MMA compared to the much harder counters to attack focused higher up and no gi. In my armchair hobbyist opinion. Some radical stuff here no less.
@catocall7323 Iv seen a few wrestling youtube channels demonstrate it as part of their curriculum. However, maybe they decided to borrow it. I just assumed it was always known by some wrestlers.
The first video I ever saw from you was were you did do the golf swing in the context of an sanda/taijiquan move, I tried it and now it is one of my favorite takedowns.
I've pulled off the golf swing takedown in mma and bjj sparring. It feels amazing when your buddy gives you the "how did I let you get that so easily" look!
You're nicknamed "The Danger" before Breaking Bad aired on TV and teaching the golf swing takedown before Islam sign up in the UFC, you're a real hipster coach😎
I always end up with the foot whenever i do an ankle pick but i usually have no idea when i have the foot after the ankle pick. I’ll try to use these techniques when i get back into the mat room.
Use the grip you have on your downed opponent's foot to control him and pass his guard. Try pushing his ankle into the floor so you can move around his legs and he can't follow you until you have him pinned.
Hey Ramsey, God bless you my friend. I trained on and off throughout my life, so I could never in good conscience say I trained for YEARS 😂, but I know basic hand to hand combat(very basic). I’ve had a lot of injuries from Training and a bad trampoline accident. I then got into drugs and I went into Psychosis 3 different times and God has for some reason healed me Everytime. Now that I’m sober and starting physical therapy, I would like to start training again. The problem is all the gyms ask for more money than I have to offer. What should I start with? (Sorry for the long comment) I posted this on a 6 year old video, so here you go 😂
5:15 exactly. The problem is, things are always moving, in our universe, in life, in combat. At least they should.💃👯🕺 Similar to what my Karate Sensei once told me: "There are no 'stances' in combat". These are just certain coordinates you pass through while moving, that favor certain next moves. Connectors so to speak. Even the deep, strong stances, they are for a situation where someone pushes or pulls you, but they always result in a next move. They are excessively practiced to condition the body and the balance to be able to do specific moves in various situations.
This probably only works if you're significantly taller and stronger than your opponent, but if you catch the leg, then lift and push back, you can keep going until you're holding your opponent suspended by the ankle. I know it works if you're 6'6" and 350 while your opponent is 5'6", 135. I've done it.
Hi Ramsey I'm watching some old Mike Tyson fights, and I was wondering if you had any thoughts on the Tyson Vs Jake Paul fight next month? Mainly how could Jake Paul win? Hey Ramsey would you maybe do a video on how to leg kick using your shin without breaking your own shin? Like in a way that untrained fighters or TKD guys would be able to understand?

7:15 I fall for that every time, am I stupid? I feel stupid when it happens about 3 times a roll. (Maybe my coach is just really good at it, or so I cope)
So after Tyson whips Paul you should fight Paul as well and the he can he's never really beaten a real fighter God Bless you boss keep up you great stuff
Why not attack all the painful parts on the inside of the leg? Why not try and destroy the weapon he tried to strike you with? You use Terry sliver quotes in one of your last videos. But then you should remember the earlier Terry sliver quotes “if a man can’t stand he can’t fight.”
At the ultimate self defense championship, a guy climbing on the ceiling dropped on my head by surprise while my knees were locked out. Ligaments were completely ruptured, the cartilage was destroyed. I need a complete knee replacement in my left knee. My right knee is stable for now.

They didn’t get out there and train as much as you!
"... and he totally could." 😂 There is sometime little substitute for raw talent and athleticism.
For us Sanda fighters catching the leg is literally the setup for half of our techniques 😅 there are so many takedowns from catching foot that the hard part is to decide in the blink of an eye which of them you'll do.
Dang, we have that in the kata "Bassai Dai" and in the Tai Chi forms. That's cool! 👍
Of course, it's a classic taijiquan technique.

That leg swing comes from kung fu, at least that's where I've seen it most.
@catocall7323 Iv seen a few wrestling youtube channels demonstrate it as part of their curriculum. However, maybe they decided to borrow it. I just assumed it was always known by some wrestlers.
@catocall7323 it’s a common technique in freestyle wrestling, taijiquan, sanda, and Muay Thai.
The first video I ever saw from you was were you did do the golf swing in the context of an sanda/taijiquan move, I tried it and now it is one of my favorite takedowns.

Ramsey's outfit is so illuminating and his moves so bright that he does not need indoor lighting! 🙂
Another great video, coach!
Love the calm demeanor and fluid presentation, or was it the other way around...
despite I've skipped some moments of the video, I however got some knowledge and reminders..Thanks!
Your Bruce Lee Gi is freekin awesome!!
Love the tech videos, Coach - keep em comin'! Some day, we shall have a Battle of the Golden Dogi. 💪🏽😆
Can't wait to watch after work!
Though for a second, I thought you were Guga from the thumbnail 😂
You're nicknamed "The Danger" before Breaking Bad aired on TV and teaching the golf swing takedown before Islam sign up in the UFC, you're a real hipster coach😎
This was awesome i was wondering if this could be a series for example countering a jab or a hook
This is a series. It’s called Q&A with the coach.

Hello coach any update on how's the keen healing up?
It’s not. The injury is permanent.
@@RamseyDewey damn... sorry for bringing it up

A Gi with Game of Death or Kill Bill vibes.
Oh snap! Kill Bill colors! Let's Go!!!
Bruce Lee :)
LOL... I know... Game of Death... I like Uma Thurman in that suit better tho... LOL
That is a badass Gi
very cool game of death gi
Excellent!
Gotta love that Gi🧨💥💥
Brilliant video! That counter-to-the-leg-grab-counter near the end was very useful too! Thanks for your martial knowledge
Hello mister Ramsey, I've got the question for you - how do we properly warm up before training sessions and fights?
Hi Ramsey I'm watching some old Mike Tyson fights, and I was wondering if you had any thoughts on the Tyson Vs Jake Paul fight next month?
Mainly how could Jake Paul win?
That's the end of the question part 😊
I'm not a Jake Paul Fan but Im enjoying the thought process of predicting how the fight could go and it's a good excuse to watch some old fights I haven't seen in awhile
Everyone around me is expecting a knockout in the first or second round and I think that is definitely a possibility
But looking at it from what strategy Jake Paul would use going in
I think it's going to be to clinch up every opportunity and either wait for a break or to circle off to the right and whip a straight right, stay on the outside (easier said than done) clinch every time he's in close and repeat
I'm a huge mike Tyson fan one of my favourite fighters of all time and I've tried to emulate the way he fights for years
Bumblebee pyjamas, snazzy!

Gold colored gi? That's fashion retro!
7:15 I fall for that every time, am I stupid? I feel stupid when it happens about 3 times a roll.
(Maybe my coach is just really good at it, or so I cope)
That Gi is just more than a bit over the top.
Is this Goldmember's gym?
So after Tyson whips Paul you should fight Paul as well and the he can he's never really beaten a real fighter God Bless you boss keep up you great stuff
I’m only 46. I’m not old enough to fight Jake Paul yet!
@RamseyDewey 🔥🔥🔥😂👊True True 👏👏
🔥🔥
3:44 what is that takedown called
In an older video, it’s called the lateral roll
Why not attack all the painful parts on the inside of the leg? Why not try and destroy the weapon he tried to strike you with? You use Terry sliver quotes in one of your last videos. But then you should remember the earlier Terry sliver quotes “if a man can’t stand he can’t fight.”
awesome krav maga moves bro
Hahahaha! Needs more groin strikes!
It sounds like Da Streetz back there! Glad to see you doing these things with the knee!!!
Stop with the RAPCRAP TALK it's for the streets
Hows the knee ramsey? You look mobile!!
My knee is crippled. I look like an old man hobbling slowly and struggling to stand up.
@RamseyDewey how did u injure it?
At the ultimate self defense championship, a guy climbing on the ceiling dropped on my head by surprise while my knees were locked out. Ligaments were completely ruptured, the cartilage was destroyed. I need a complete knee replacement in my left knee. My right knee is stable for now.
