Just love how you consistently go for that woody and tight IV tone with it dialed in right and and aiming your playing to accentuate the crispy pick scrapes on the palm mutes. That is exactly what I go for too!

Stellar sound and playing Marius! Can you please share your setup? is it a Mesa 2x12 with V30? what about the mic, sound card, and did you use any Parametric EQ? I own a Mark III Blue Stripe and would love to try to get close to your sound. Thank you.

Thanks, man! yup, it's a mesa 2x12 compact one through sm57 and sennheiser 421. This was a pretty bright setup close to cap on the speaker on both mics, the 57 being the main sound coming through. I use focusrite scarlett 18i20 for soundcard, which works great in a studio environment. On the amp are all the drive(7,5), gain (8) and presence (3-5) buttons pulled, the EQ is the standard V-shape. Bass low (0-3) and mid (4-5). And treble at 6,5. I have not used any post processing here with EQ or anything. The mark 3 is more aggressive sounding than mark IV and 2c+ from the audioclips I have heard, so you should be able to get a great sound for this kind of song :D

Nice setup man, thanks for the details! I own a Mesa 4x12 (V30) and an SM57, will try to tweak the sound to get close to yours, love it! One more thing, I am using an Apogee One audio interface which I think I should be changing and getting something of higher quality. I saw the Focusrite you're using, quite impressive. Is there a similar high quality version that you recommend, without necessarily having all the different inputs on it, since I just need to record guitar basically without compromising on the quality. If not, I may need to plan to get this one then. What about the studio monitors, what do you use? I currently am using the Audio Technica M50X headphones and planning to buy studio monitors as well. Thanks again man, sorry for all my questions :D hehe

No problem! Well, any of the focusrite scarlett series is good for that. They have the same mic preamps. They are top quality for that price range, above that is getting classic standalone mic preamps, which only professional studios use. One thing I think is important when recording is the monitoring, and the software on the 18i20 is excellent and let you set it up just the way you need it to be. I am very happy with it, but I am no expert, so this is just my opinion. For studio monitors I use Roland DS-5, but they aren't sold anymore, I think. They are very good, but if I were you I would look at at yamaha HS7 or KRK Rokit RP5 - those are what you need. If you want to get a sound closer to my recording here, I would recommend getting a sennheiser md 421, because it adds another dimension and fattens things up. Alternatively get another sm57 and record with two. The minor phasing effect you get with mics is important to get more of a familiar, professional sound we are used to hear in recordings.

Thank you man for the valuable information, much appreciated! I will surely look into the Focusrite 18i20 and either the Yamaha HS7 or KRK RP5. I fully agree about the minor phasing effect, this is what makes a guitar recording sound professional. I will try to get my hands on a Sennheiser md 421, I never tried that mic before (I only experimented with an SM57).
If you don't mind me asking, when I record my guitars, I feel there's something I am missing (maybe a compressor...), and the sound turns out not very tight, what is your process, after you record your guitar tracks, do you add a compressor on each track, or maybe a limiter? I am trying to better understand how to make these tracks sound loud and clear, without clipping the recording (of course the initial setup is properly being done, like micing a 4x12 with my SM57, testing the input to my Apogee One interface...). Thanks again man!

No problem, I enjoy talking about recording :)
I think that is part of the art of recording and what can make it fun. There are many elements going into it, from your pickups to cable, to amp, to cabinet, to mics, to volume, to how much preamp gain in mics, and after processing. I like to get the best sound from the amp. I think most of the time it's about how much gain and where you put the mics. I don't think there is any one solution, it's all about what you like and what you want to hear. In my recording here there is nothing done to the sound, because I like it that way. BUT, if I would put this in a song, I would have to EQ it a bit. I stay away from compressors as much as I can. To get the biggest sound after you have recorded, use a master effect with compressor or similar, it can be very effective. I have used EZ mix that will definitely do things to your sound, sometimes good things and sometimes not so much.

since you own both rectifier recording preamp and mark iv, which is better?

My personal pick would be MarkIV, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's better...

Ryan Peerson I don’t remember exactly, but mids around 4-5, treble 7.0 (pulled), lead gain 8.0, lead drive 7,5 (pulled), bass 1-2, presence 1-5 (pulled). EQ with a v-shape (you can see it in the video). Drive and presence you adjust after volume. Hope this helps

@@Mariusags Maybe the first pot pulled was Lead Gain, 'cause the IV hasn't a treble shift like the C+,
