I think it actually works to draw them more emotion since they are blindly following the series in contrast to one piece fans who may compare some scene to the anime. I for once was expecting so much on the Nami Help me scene which I felt was more impactful on the anime. But it was still a good scene. I hope they can improve this one once we arrived Ennies Lobby.

I am a life long anime hater, especially anime of the fighting kind, I can't exactly give any rational reasons for it, I just feel repulsed and cringe uncontrollably whatching it. I would have never picked up this story in manga or anime format on my own free will. The creator of One Piece has said on multiple occasions that he expected this live-action adaptation to be his final chance to share his story with an audience that would otherwise ignore manga or anime as something they'd be interested in. I think that, even if it is stupidly not renewed by Netflix, Eiichiro Oda will have accomplished him aim of introducing the world of One Piece to a new demographic. It truly manages to capture the unique spirit of One Piece in this recreation, and it will without a doubt make many people check out either the manga or anime to see what adventures this tightknit group of found family ends up finding themselves in the middle of. I really hope dozens of seasons of this will still follow, but at the very least, I believe this season accomplished what it set out to do. Getting even hardcore FANS to embrace a live action adaptation to the degree that we see with this One PIece live action is as rare as winning the lottery, after all!

Im a fan of the anime. The fact that 1 hour each episodes doesnt feel like a drag indicates that there is more to tell in this 8 eps arc. They crammed it. But overall, the spirit and storyline is spot on for me. Watch the anime for full content. This live action is decent and certainly the best one than anything that ever been produced. Buckle up because it will go INSANE when they enter the Grand Line and the world just EXPANDS in ways not even Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings expanded...the world-building is crazy and it becomes darker and addresses social and interpersonal issues as it goes on.

Had no idea it was based on an anime nor a game! I found it so entertaining! It was suggested to me by a group of younger audiences that the show was aimed for and I must admit it didn’t disappoint at all. I don’t mind the amount of special effects and the childish themes. Every story was well told and enough backstories was told and made all the characters even the foil ones so compelling and relatable. And as I said it entertains that is the point missing these days! The cinematography and lighting were stunning! It was the best munchies and series!😁

Having watched the adaptation from the perspective of a fan that's been watching One Piece since the original 4Kids Dub (yes that one). And watching it with my family and a couple friends (Some having varying levels of awareness of One Piece). I can say as an adaptation it did a amazing job honoring the original source material, while also making it very accessible to the audience who've never watched One Piece either.
And as someone who's been a fan not only catching the little later references and world building. But also experiencing different changes too the story (Like with the Syrup Village Arc, Garp being a central opposing force, or another noteworthy changes someone like me would notice). It didn't feel alienating or them disrespecting the original source material, with the new changes not only feeling very refreshing but also just SUPER COOL... It's amazing can't wait for Season 2... Especially after a screamed my lungs out with that ending!

I’m 6 episodes in and have really enjoyed it, because even with the drastic changes to arcs like baratie, they keep the soul of one piece and major story bests consistent to the original. There are tons of things cut out, but tghose things are somewaht irelevant to the core story (they have to smoosh 50 episodes of anime into 8 episodes, so...). But there are tons of so called easter eggs. I am a 40 year old man and i was crying and laughing at the same time(the anime packs more punch to emotions than live action, but nonetheless live action punches there too). `Coz it was too good. And i think there will be second season... The most interesting part of the anime/manga is after they enter The Grand Line. And as you say, this was like an itroductionary episodes for non fans to know who is who, so they can properly concentrate on second season. Thank you for the great review !!

And the greatness of it will be common sense once it actually ends 😅.
And we have not even seen all the mysteries of this epic world within the Netflix show, which will make the story soooo much more enjoyable 🙏🏻!
In my opinion nothing beats One Piece in terms of characters (quantity and quality), interconnected plots, adventures and worldbuilding in general! And of course the heart of it...♥️.
I will make even the kids of my kids see it (once I have any of them)😂!

If it doesn't get a second season (which I don't see why they wouldn't do it since this seems to be a whooping success) there's the manga and the anime version, and this series did great in condensing the East Blue Saga while keeping all the important bits that make the characters so memorable, but if you would like to continue the story of their next adventure chapter 98 of the manga tells the story of the Strawhats in Loguetown.

I'm a usual in your channel since your review on the Korean drama My Name a couple years ago.
And I'm a fan of One Piece since I was at elementary school some 20 years ago.
I gotta say, to share some more info on the show from the perspective of a fan, the series is good, there were changes, that had me hooked cause I had to see how were they making it all work without setting themselves to continuity issues later on as the series is quite long and the following arcs or "seasons" are interconnected with the ones before.
I loved it anyways, and im about to watch it a second time with the in-laws too.
    Now regarding what you said.
The East Blue Saga are the first 100 manga chapters, or 50 anime episodes. And at the time they were just that the first saga, but 1000 chapters later, we all understand that The East Blue Saga is the prologue, as you said. Sadly for me, the series couldn't capture the whole essence of the East Blue, cause of how hard it is to shorten 100 chapters into 8hrs. I recommend you to read the manga, or watch the anime, whichever media feels better to you. You'll see then how much of the One Piece charm is found in pacing, getting to know the characters, main and side ones, understanding their struggles and their backstories, that is what makes the "fights" have a meaning, cause in One Piece those aren't as flashy as other series, but they are hard felt, cause we know why the "heroes" need to win, and at times, we understand why the "villains" won't backdown that easily from what they believe in.
And adressing the "i hope there's a continuation", I do as well, i think people will back the series, but my main fear is on what the Writers and Actors strike could do against a second season happening soon, or rather if it is even happening at some point.
But there are good news :D
There's a whole 25 year old long story already in Manga and Anime, with new chapters and episodes still coming weekly. So I believe there's no problem for newcomers to pivot into either of those and continue the journey with us.

I followed One Piece since 2007, that's 16 years, people always say that One Piece is too long and try to stay away from it, but once you dive into it and catch up with the story, you just want more, this is an epic of our time, I became a writer myself and One Piece played a huge role for me. To build my own style of writing I've probably read thousands of books and stories, fiction, real life, or even historical ones, and while I can't say that One Piece anime is the best as there are better crafted and directed animes and especially with better pacing, the manga is an absolute masterpiece and Eichiro Oda is a genius.
I really enjoyed this series, unlike previous adaptations it is obvious that there was enough care from the cast and everyone behind the show and I am sure Oda taking part also changed things. There might be some things I nitpick as a lifelong fan of the story, but overall, the vibe of the show, the emotional part, and the fun were translated as perfectly as it was possible for a live-action adaptation. The main cast was perfect. Also, how it was shot was really good, there were a lot of great shots and I really enjoyed interesting transitions. All the sets probably were the highlight of the show.
If you are aware of The Lord of The Rings and the details that Tolkien put into his creation, I think the only thing that comes close to it even if the method of storytelling is drastically different is the One Piece. And I can't recommend it enough to anyone, will it be reading manga or watching the anime, it still delivers all the different emotions and that's why One Piece fans are so loyal to the story, everyone should experience it.

I have been reading the manga since 2004 (first volume bought) but I started to watch it even earlier, like as soon as it came out, I think I started to watch it that I was around middle school with my cousin and now I am 35, still reading/watching it, every week we comment what's going on and it's still a great fun.

defeintly blew my expectaions out of the water really liked the use of practical effects. the only real 2 flaws I've seen is one. they don't make it to clear that fluffy can't swim because of the devil fruit it almost makes it seem like he can't swim because he can't swin It almost expects you to already know that going in . 2 when kuro's plot was reviled fluffy was knocked out from poison he missed everything and when luffy woke up in the custody of koby luffy then automatically knew his friends were in trouble even tho he missed all the big plot points.

I've seen the anime and the most surprising aspect for me was the chemistry between the cast and the changes in the story. They changed a lot but it connected well to cause the same anime moments. For example, Nami wasn't supposed to stay at the Baratie, she was supposed to steal their ship and Luffy and the others chase after her. In the live action they did similar but with a complete different feeling. Another huge difference is the Koby and Garp stuff, in the anime we don't know about Koby and what he is doing until 300 chapters ahead, but in the live action they gave them a lot of screentime while in the anime we get none. I could rant on and on about the changes but you get my idea. To make it short, the scenarios, the design and personalities and relations between all the characters are very much alike the anime giving the vibe of the anime, so it is one of the best anime adaptations I've seen.

I’m a big fan and honestly just happy that I was able to relive the love of the straw hats and who they are as characters instead of what’s happening in the next big plot development. Not that plot is bad mind you, it’s just that currently the story is too big to have the same focus that the start of one piece had and that’s where this show succeeded in

I am a fan of the anime, a lot of "changes" they made were things that the author said that he would also have made in the original story, like Nami hiding her treasure in his mom coffin, That being said, the Arlong Park arc wasn't as dramatic as it was in the original work, but I don't konw why.

I actually don't like the anime. I am a big fan of the manga for more than 20 years now and it's my fav story of all time. So I am kinda disappointed that the anime, while doing a lot of things very well, butchers it a little bit with bad animation quality and pacing.
But now I finally have a second medium to enjoy my favorite story ❤

As a fan of the original series, I'm here for only one reason, one piece is great because of its plot twists and mysteries, it makes the audience wonder why when who, specially WHAT, and if that what is revealed in the original series, people that only watches live action might get spoiled, and the mystery factor will drastically go down. So beware of spoilers, it'll be everywhere.

As someone who read/watch OG One Piece, i would say it is a great LA. Is it better than the OG? No, why? the impact on certain moment is better in OG for example the Sanji leaving Baratie. That scene is better in OG because you can feel the relationship between Sanji and every Baratie Staff. in LA? just Sanji and Zeff relationship. Oda-sensei is a master for ending scene
and he too a master on teasing the viewers/readers so the element of surprise is so good in OG One Piece. Garp suppose to be not appear in this season and his identity as Luffy's grandson and also his face suppose to be appear in the later Saga and surprising everyone when it reveal. I cant feel the impact of that title of his as Vice-admiral.
Well, overall i give it 8/10 if not because my brain automatically comparing it to the OG
