- The flexi connector is just great for making up those short lengths of pipework where you may have fitted new taps and the copper pipe tails are now too short to connect back up, or a new WC cistern where the old pipework is in the wrong place. Buy these connectors with a valve already in line as part of the flexi and you have a really useful bit of kit, for very little money.

Had a nightmare copper pipe straight to the cistern that would start leaking every 12 months or so where it screws onto the bottom of the ball valve. I chopped it off further down and fitted one of these and never had a problem since. Took 15 mins. Great invention!

these things tend to need ptfe if the water pressure is is high on the olive . oh for the days of conex and prestex , when fitting were very tough

Get the 'WRAS' variety as these are suitable for drinking water and are better quality. Also note these are not designed to last beyond 10 years or so and copper is a better long term solution. Your service valve variety won't be of any use when these eventually leak although I have used them more than 10 years ago without problems.

Hi, I find your little vids very informative. I have an iso valve in a similar position on the pipework to my cistern bottom fill valve. Im a bit wary of draining my complete system to fit the new flexi hose which also has the valve end you show. Can I fix this end on top of my existing iso valve or does the existing iso valve need to come off?

Hi Lauren, you cannot cut them, you have to buy them at pre-set lengths to fit the job in hand.

I've had problems with these moving overtime, I have moved into a new house and I'm just about to fit some new washers and tighten a leaking connector up, what is the best way to stop them moving over time and do I need to put on anti leaking compound i.e fernox lsx?
Vikingfan13 You only need anti leaking compound on the compression fitting end. To help prevent them moving you could always clip them to the wall or use cable ties to lash them to a nearby pipe or object close by.

I need to replace my flexible hose. This will include the valve shown in the hose connector. To stop water from spurting out of the pipework, how is it best to isolate the system? I can’t seem to find an isolation valve upstream of this connector or pipework as the pipework is routed below tiling. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Shut off the main stopcock usually found under the sink.
Hi. When connecting a flexi hose to a compression connector do you need to use an olive or does the rubber washer in the end of the hose replace it?
If you are connecting to copper pipe then you need an olive. If it is a fitting then the washer.

do you boss white both ends of flexi even though there is a rubber washer? you only seem to do one end in the video.
trangia777 Only use boss white on the compression fitting end. Never the rubber washer end. Al.
At the start taking the old fitting off also took off the old shut off valve yet no water flowed out. So do I have to drain the cold water header tank before doing the job this way?
The safest bet yes.

Hi Al, is it possible/acceptable to connect two flexitails together? I just installed a new sink and a tap and the tails attached to the tap don't reach the copper pipework by 500mm: basically the tap is now at the opposite end of the sink cupboard to the copper water supply pipes. Thanks. Steve.
you can but it is bad plumbing practice. Best to extend the copper pipes.
Beware.... nowadays many manufacturers say not to use a spanner when tightening the top nut to the inlet valve of the cistern.
That is rubbish. They need to be tight or you will be looking at a leak.
My flexi connector will not stay on the hot water pipe under the skin , I just replaced a faucet . I believe the pipe might be striped at the connection to the hot water supply . Can I fix this without a new pipe
Best replace the flexi.
Like yourself, i am old school, but i have been given two new 22mm Flexi bath connectors standard 300 mm, but instead of nuts and olives they are push-fit straight onto the 22mm copper stubs,I look inside the push-fit ends and wonder if they really are ok for mains pressure which, the ones i am removing are nut and olive,s which have been there for approx 10 years problem-free, have you any advice. Thanks a lot mate.
Me, I prefer the nut and olive any day, just relying on that rubber washer as a seal could be dodgy over the long term.

Hi, I've got to replace the fill valve inside my cistern, looking at your video of this job, it seems you just unscrew it from the bottom of the cistern and pulled it out, ? Mine has the flexipioe for water feed, but can't see the nut that would be holding the valve itself inplace...could this mean I would need to remove the cistern to get access to this other nut? Humm yes if you cannot see the valve nut you may have to remove the cistern to reveal the nut.
Thanks for that, it did require the cistern removed, but after that it was a 25 minute job to replace valve and flexi pipe as well...

You will need a short piece of copper pipe between the leadlock and the Flei.

Sorry one last question if I wish to connect flexi hose for bath taps (bo8ght some ) how do i connect to old lead pipe that would need cutting ? Thanks do I saw both pipes and there's a connector for it ? Or do the flexi hose just connect to cut pipe ? They have shut if valves on them see
You will need special connectors to connect lead pipe called leadlocks.

You will have to use short pieces of copper pipe from the leadlocks so that the flexis can fit.

Beware purchasing taps that have flexis supplied, packaged and pre-boxed. Especially if they bent double or tripled over, are all kinked up and have spent a month or two travelling all the way from China. The rubber, inner liners integrity is compromised and eventually they perish and cause leaks to spray out like mist.
Hi, I’ve just fitted new bath taps with the same flexi tails that were already fitted, after 2 weeks fitted they have started leaking from where they connect to the taps. Any advice?
The sealing washers need replacing, if you can get them.

You can not cut them they come in fixed lengths.
That Fernox compound you used is NOT for potable water. You need to use Fernox Water Hawk (blue tin).
I hear what you say, but nobody has died using the old stuff for the last 50 years.
True, I wasn't having a go...Just saying.
When this compound dries, and you later take the pipe off (many years later) does this paste at that point become dried up hard clay-like material? Because I just took a pipe off from my taps in the bathroom that clearly havent been changed in a very very long time, and there was all this hard horrible clay-like stuff all around the threads and under the tap itself inbetween the sink. It made unscrewing the thing incredibly hard but once it was undone, and re-fitted there's an incredibly slow leak from the nut itself so I assume it was this paste holding it all together but now that it's gone its leaking slightly.
How to overcome when you have a close coupled cistern and need to get the cistern off after fitting the flexi hose. You can't ever get to the nut that attaches to the bottom of the fill valve as it's all to tight. ??
Take it from the other end then when the cistern is removed you will be able to get to it.
@dereton33 so that means undoing the flexi pipe from the copper feed pipe? Would you have to then recut the feed pipe due to the olive squashing the copper or just put it back hoping it won't leak?

***** It is OK to bend the flexis, they are quite durable.

If you bend it too much the rubber hose inside will fold up and stop the water flowing through.
That`s right slow bends only no kinking.
Just like to say for anyone thinking these are a great invention and I did too but there’s a lot of controversy over these now a small leak or condensation can make these porous and hence a leak I have been on one or two forums people got caught out with these while on holiday and came home to a swamp pex pipe with a swivel nut connector might be a better solution.

Now show us what to do if, like 90% of people, your flexi pipe is 30mm too short and the next available length is 200mm longer :/
Cut the supply copper pipe shorter and fit the 200 mm one.
