- The bag of parts with a new cistern can be quite daunting. Here is how to assemble a push button one.

Another brilliant explanation. You deserve an honorary teaching degree!
Wow, thank you! Cheers Matthew.
I agree, an absolute natural. Your time and instruction is so appreciated. X
Simplicity itself - brilliantly explained. Thank you!
You're welcome!
A very useful confidence builder. Cheers from Scotland...
Thanks 👍
I'm replacing my old toilet this week, this is a great help. Thank you for this.
You're welcome!
Gentle and steady - what a kind voice - many thanks my cistern in on!
No problem.
What's a Stud!!!! Straight to the point explained brilliantly 👏
Thanks. Dont know about the stud though ha ha.
Thank you so much for showing us how to assemble the system in a very simple way. The instructions that come with the tank are very complicated and hard to understand as they are translated into english. The only problem I encountered when I followed your demonstration video was that the plastic bolts you fastened on the tank have to be tightened with the plastic nuts under the toilet seat instead to make sure there is no leak when one flushes. I learnt that after assembling everything as shown in your video, however I quickly started all over and fastened the plastic bolts under the toilet seat and not under the cistern tank as shown. That immediately solved the problem. This was my first time installing a cistern tank. Thank you again for how you explain things so clearly.
No problem Annie.
@@dereton33 Thank you for your prompt response 👍
You are a life saver, just following your instructions tonight for my toilet and you made it real easy for me. Thank you! 🍺
Great to hear!
Thank you so much for sharing! Your video has made things a lot easier for me.
No problem Gabriel.
I remember I was determined to fit my own bathroom suite many, many years ago. So I booked myself on a ten week basic plumbing course at the local college. Once I had fitted all the cistern parts I sat it in the bath filled it with water to test just to be sure as a newby to plumbing would.
I guess you never looked back, ha ha.
Amazing , clear, my parts all looked exactly the same, this saved me loads of time and made me more confident, much appreciated !!!
You're welcome!
This video was very helpful to me. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the advice. I was about to give up!
No worries!
Just what I was looking for, thanks.
No problem!
Great video as always Al 🌟. Looking forward to seeing the next one.🔥
Thanks 👍
What a lovely chap.thank you.👍
Very welcome
Only true plumbers will know the feeling when you get the fill valve out and notice the plastic thread! 😭 proper bum clencher when it comes to connecting it. Great video as always Al! Marc 👍
Thanks Marc.
Just had the same job in my downstairs bathroom , the first thing I got rid off were the pathetic plastic mounting bolts and popped down to screwfix to get some proper ones
A good idea.
Very useful. Thanks
You are welcome
Pleas can you help! Dont those wing nut type screws go in after you secure the cistern to the toilet?? so its secured to it?
Yes they do I was just showing them in there place.
@@dereton33This is not obvious in your video. You don't explain this, and it's very misleading.
Thanks, great tutorial, followed easily. Should I have 2 extre plastic wing nuts and washers to connect to pan or use the 2 shown.
Just the ones shown.
Very helpful video!!! Thanks
No problem.
Sir u are a legend !!
No problem Martin.
That’s very helpful! Thank you!
No problem.
thank you very interesting video
Glad you enjoyed it
Exactly my installation thanks mate!
No problem 👍
Excellent video 🎉
Thank you very much!
Thank you
You're welcome
Nice One !!!
Thanks ✌️
Can you confirm which end of the doughnut faces the cistern. Is it the rubbed end or the flat end. The instructions seem to show flat end to cistern and ribbed end to toilet bowl but it's not clear.
The flat end.
Thank you. Very helpful.
You're welcome!
Nice one. Reassured me that I was doing the right thing.
Would you use sealant as an added safeguard to leaking joins
No I prefer plumbers mait.
Spot on..... Thank ypu
You are so welcome
You are a legend. Thankyou👍
No problem 👍
Thanks
No problem
Great video. Thank you!!
No problem Alex.
Brilliant thankyou .I'm doing one with the sink on top in the next few days .
1 question.
Do you never bother with silicone on all the inside rubber washer's as well?
Thanks
No need
now this guy looks like a plumber I can trust.
Thanks a lot.
Hi mate great videos thanks alot and God bless you thanks
Thanks 👍
I like this video
Thanks.
cheers Al, yes all those comlicated bits of plastic and washers tend to make me look for another job to do around the house , like cutting the grass or doing the food shop but its always there at the back of my mind poking a finger at me to get on with it...no peace for the wicked, great vid though so thanks.
I know what you mean. Keep well mate.
Quick question Al, how do we adjust the siphon for a longer flush?
Thanks 👍🏼
On these two button jobs you cant, you can only get a bigger flush by making the water level as close to the overflow as you can.
I have a drip from one of the long screws that attaches the cistern to the toilet, I've tried tightening the wing nut thinking it might pull it together but it still drips. Do you think I will have to drain the cistern, take the screws out and reseal?
Unfortunately Dan yes you will.
I find a small amount of leakage from the nuts beneath, the washers are above as intended, and nuts done up to the correct tightness. why would this happen? Came as a kit so am quite surprised. trying to avoid the use of non-adhesive silicone as everyone says its for amateurs but the nuts wont make a seal no matter the level of tightness and perfection of positioning of rubber washer inside the cistern. Holes match... don't understand how it would be possible to make a correct seal without cross-threading the plastic nuts, silicone, or a second sealing washer.
The cistern might not be sitting square or you have an off centre hole in the pan. Best way to fix it to leave the rubber washer in place take off the cistern and pad around the hole with plumbers mait.
@@dereton33 thank you so much all I wanted to hear.
There's an error in his demonstration. The wing nut and washer must sit below the cistern, and then gets tightened to the bolt FROM BELOW!!!
Great video, watching this I assume you do not need to use plumbers putty or jointing compound when fitting the new float calve to the cistern bottom?
That is correct
@@dereton33 Thank-you. I had a small leak after fitting the valve where the copper mains pipe fits to the plastic thread of the valve so I took it apart and used some PTFE tape which stopped the leak. The only minor problem I have is the float arm rubs on the plastic syphon. I cannot see a way to adjust it and do not want to take it apart again in case I damage the plastic nut or copper nut.
You look younger every time I tune in - have you found the fountain of youth? :-)
I have one of those syphon that can be removed and replaced - siamp or some such name. Great idea but it is possible for the whole assembly to move when replacing part (they tend to last about 5 years in my hard water area) and hence cistern starts leaking at that union. Then one has to take cistern off and start again.
There is also some rubber that perishes in the inlet - fortunately the isolation valve i put in still works but always a PITA to turn. Wish I had put the Pegler valve with lever - so much easier to operate even if they are a bit of an eyesore.
Its a case of winners and losers when it comes to plumbing.
Do you have one where the flush won't flush on how to replace the bits that need replacing please
Yes on my channel.
Got shown this last night in college
O well a bit late but better late than never.
How did you attach the cistern to the pan? Did you have to undo the plastic bolts?
Yes you do.
I've never done this before and I'm a girl - do you think I'll be able to manage it? I am quite handy.....
Sure you can do Rachel, don`t think being a girl makes any difference.
Could you add a link to the supply of the bag of parts please. Thank you.
It came with the cistern.
hi I have a old downstairs toilet with 2 pipes at either side. what may this be I know one brings water in but other?
The other one is the overflow pipe.
OVERFLOW MOST LIKELY
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No problem Will.
Im struggling to remove donut washer from cistern as it's attached to the inside
It should not be there some one has fitted wrong.
@@dereton33 will buy new and fit it, as per your video
Is it a Caroma?
