Could you help? I just replaced a tap with a new IKEA one and it's leaking around the bolt and olive joint on the hit water side. A steady trickle. I tried tightening it more but it still leaks. The other one tightened up nicely without any extra effort. I've had to shut the water off til I fix the leak.
You will never know what this video meant to me. Fixed and fitted my leaking bathroom tap at FIFTY FIVE YEARS OLD. FIRST TIME EVER. Love and respect for this great video. Priceless lol
Sir, you are lifesaver. My basin tap broke last night. I watched this video early this morning, ordered the piece on Amazon same day delivery, and just fixed it. Total cost: £27.99 for the new tap. Seeing how easily I fixed this thanks to you, I am now ordering the flushing system for my toilet, which has been leaking. Gonna fix that tomorrow after watching your video about that. Thanks so much for uploading this kind of stuff. It really makes a difference. Cheers.
Very helpful, thank you. My son kindly offered to change my basin tap for me and I watched the video before 'helping' him. It didn't exactly go smoothly, but he was ultimately successful and I was able to offer some helpful comments along the way (to balance out the annoying ones).
Im just passing by to say thank you for making this video, honestly. I have next to no DIY skills and I have always been a bit daunted by getting stuck in as I have zero experience (especially plumbing or electrics). Well, 3 weeks ago one of the hoses under our basin burst. After we finished drying the bathroom out, we called a plumber we have used in the past. To replace the pipe (and the tap) he quoted us £200. Not knowing any better, we agreed. However, he then vanished off the face of the earth... ...So I watched your video about 5x and built up the courage. £30 on a new tap and about 25 minutes of my time and we now have a new tap and hoses fitted. Thank you, so much. Your videos give people like me the confidence to give it a go!
Thank you so much for this super clear video! My tap has been leaking a bit for a few months and this has given me the boost of confidence that I’ll be capable of replacing it myself.
You've made me learn something about plumbing today, from your video. I now know how to rotate the valves, to stop the flow of water. My son broke the head of the basin tap, water was flowing continuously, and I couldn't get a plumber immediately, so I went to UA-cam and found your video, which enabled me to stop the water flow. Thank you so much. Ibrahim.
Hi Plumberparts, your video helped to replace my bathroom basin mixer Tap. Your saved me Plumber's charge. You are very funny, Cathy loves you so much I can tell. And your T-Shirt is funny too. Thank you so much for saving my money. God Bless you and your family Sir.
If they don’t all fit together (some budget “diy” ones don’t), you can also use a socket, extension bar & ratchet driver, if you also have those on your toolbox …
Excellent. Managed to replace a tap myself. Isolation valves did nothing though even when I turned them so had to turn mains off under sink. Thanks for the excellent video.
Hey you! Thanks for your vids, it’s so cool that someone seems to genuinely want to help people out. I’ve used your tips for at least 1 thing in every room in my house. You are a proper legend. Cheers!
Thank you for the video! It helped me to change my bathroom tap but boy was it fiddly?!! I can see why you made your special tool to release the bolts because it took me about 20 attempts to find the right combination of tools. Once I found it the job was quite easy!! Thank again
Not gonna lie, my wee noodle arms were struggling to get the seized tail nuts off the valves but where they came into their own was reaching up into the tight space under the tap to get the screws off! Thanks loads for this video!
Only today I was under a basin trying to remove the nuts on the tap wishing I had a longer box spanner. That's a great little tool you had made. Wish I had one today 😂😂
Excellent video. Nothing taken for granted. I have seen other videos where the rubber seal has been placed on top of sink under the tap, instead of between underside and sink....
You are a STAR!!! Thank you so much for this video… thought I would give it a go myself and thanks to your clear instructions it was a doddle… keep up the great work! 😊
I had no idea hot is always on the left. The things you learn! Much like the spout on the fuel pump icon on a car dashboard tells you which side of the car the filler is on :)
Iv got a good tip for ya James if you leave the nut oven the end of the slotted end so it’s a little proud it won’t splay when you tighten with a flat head screwdriver and rad valve stepping tool fits in the end of the box spanner’s making the ratchet 👍🏻
Hi James great video for those new people, however I was taught not to put those rubber flexi's directly on to standard iso valves, I always use flat faced iso's Any input around this?
@@lewisbromilow9046 the only reason I was told this is because of the "sharp" edges and not as much contact on to the rubber. I've never seen it be an issue myself but I just stick to what I know :)
The ultimate has a video where he was told about the flat type, not all shops sell them. I would use them and hunt them out, less risk of cutting the rubber if connecting more than once I suppose
Great Video James, it's good to see the nitty gritty of what could happen and tips on valve changes and pressure release on these jobs too. See you on Thursday #Alearmy
James, treat yourself to the Nerrad Tapex kit. There’s a handy angled joint connector for when you’re unable to come up directly from underneath. Great video. I do jobs like this day in day out and yet here I am, on a Sat morning, watching someone else do the same thing. Man, I love plumbing! Take care.
I brought the tapex kit last week, used it 3 times already and I got to say its definitely a handy tool, on the expensive side but will pay for itself in no time.
Hi, great video cheers. Just one thing, if I can shut the water off under the sink with the two shut off valves , when I have done everything and I am ready to put the water back on, do I need to do the thing like you did re the building the pressure back up? Cheers. 😊
Does there need to be some sort of a washer/seal between the bottom of the tap and then top of the basin, so it doesn’t leak? Or is it built in the new tap and just wasn’t visible
Although there is an o ring on that base sometimes the seal is not 100%, What I do to avoid seepage through the hole is clean up the surface on the basin with some acetone or isopropyl alcohol, and then put a gasket of clear marine silicone. Proper seal.

Another awesome vid! So, as I'm training up, I'll throw it out there...I think I'm right in thinking there "should" be single check valves before the iso... As it's mixer tap.but In reality are they ever really fitted?! Probably a check valve on the cylinder I suppose for hot but what if the cold is off the mains ...
I’ve got to do this job but the flexi tails are connected to the supply behind the tiles. Am I going to have to break the wall open to change the taps?
My isolation valve when turned anti clockwise quarter of a turn leaks slightly from the middle where the flat head screwdriver goes. Does that mean the valve is worn ? . Doesnt leak when tight.
I have a single leaver mixer tap in the bathroom leaking. Wanted to replace the cartridge but I cant take the tap off after removing the grub screw. any tips? (apart from replacing the tap).
I have a sink which has a circular plastic tube connected (somehow) under the sink to a mixer tap inside the plastic tube is a metal tube and the flexi hoses. I cannot see and don't think there is room for there to be tap nuts so this must be a different connection. Any thoughts please ?
Great video. I note you aren't afraid to flex copper pipe (e.g. at beginning when you turn the isolation valve): I'm always nervous in case it puts strain on the soldered fittings - should I be?
Our tap is leaking on the underside of the basin where the metal and rubber seal go. We recently had the cartridge replaced and the whole tap was taken out. What do you think the problem could be? Do we need a new rubber seal? Thanks

Mate that tap spanner is genius!! Just been looking at my tap like oh man how am I gonna do this
I used a deep socket and extension from a quality 3/8 socket set to get the nut out. Mine was a 9mm nut.
Little tip for people, a box spanner set comes with 3 sizes. Can put one in the end of another extending it. Thank me later

Not an expert, but it looks like it. The point is to not have lots of pressure building if you've missed or under tightened something..
Does there need to be some sort of a washer/seal between the bottom of the tap and then top of the basin, so it doesn’t leak? Or is it built in the new tap and just wasn’t visible

Would a normal mechanics deep socket + extension not do the trick here?
