I love watching people react to Training Day, lol. It’s always happiness then nervous smiles, then discomfort to “what’s going on” to oh shit! lol 😂 😅😅…the movie is an emotional roller coaster.
The movie is designed to make you feel like Hoyt confused, shocked and in disbelief. Great movie, writing, acting... Denzel 99% plays the good guy so he was perfect to blind side the viewer.
Don't worry Biss, the whole point of the film is to keep you guessing and try to justify Denzel's bad actions. That ultimate just means you're a good person, like Jake. The film is the perfect example of 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions'. We all want to see the better side of others, because we want to believe that everyone is a good human being. Unfortunately, that isn't always the case. Some people only want what's good for themselves.
I was worried you weren't enjoying this, but at the end you laid it out. Thanks again for your reaction, ive seen this many times but its fun to see you go through it.
Denzel Washington is a rare talent in that he has both the extreme versatility and habitual excellence of a character actor and also the charm and presence of a leading man. I don't think I have ever seen him in anything where he hasn't been excellent. I can definitely see why this movie won him tons of awards. Really enjoyed your reaction and engagement with the film!
I don't think you were confused. I think what happened was your mind couldn't accept the fact that Denzel was playing a villainous character so you were justifying his horrible actions (some were good for the job though). That's okay though. We were all victims of this lol. Especially back in 2001 watching this for the first time. Denzel had never done this before. OMG it was wild. Maybe you know this by now but Denzel won an Oscar for this role. Also the writer, David Ayer, wrote and directed End of Watch.
The dude Roger had 4 million dollars, seems like that was more than enough to go to the Philippines or anywhere else, i wouldn't have stuck around for another year
When this came out I watched it so many times. Its been a few years since I've seen it so I'm glad you did a reaction. Still such a bad ass movie. I love Denzel as a villain. I can listen to him talk about nothing all day. Great reaction.
For those too young to remember, this was written in the wake of the Rampart Scandal ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rampart_scandal ), mostly to do with the LAPD CRASH anti-gang units. For people who think it's unrealistic, what they did was take all of the documented corruption within that scandal concerning at least 70 officers and compressed it into one small unit of officers. "The Shield" later did the same thing, but better, in part because it had the time to do it in series form. So the only thing unrealistic about it is that it mostly boiled down to one guy and his flunkies, instead of a whole precinct house. So while it makes 5-6 guys look terrible by having them do all this stuff, if anything, it went easy on the LAPD.
I loved this reaction!! I was scrolling through your reaction list, and I did not see a reaction to American Gangster. It stars Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe (Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind), Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men)! It’s an action movie based in the late 60’s & early 70’s New York City/New Jersey. It’s really gritty and it’s one of my favorite movies!! You will love it!
I don't think I would survive a training day with detective Biss Great reaction, rare to see Denzel play a bad guy and he did it so well. Oh, one of my fave actors from Breaking Bad appeared in the movie.
In the original script Alonzo was supposed to live. But Denzel Washington thought that he should definitely die. So they re did the ending. Also some of that dialogue was made up on the spot by Mr Washington. In particular the speech he is yelling at the end.
Alonso is one of the most scaries characters I ever seen on a Movie, such a great twists on this movie love it! to my perspective Alonso came as the dangerous streets of the city, he is part of the corruption power money drugs he know how to play all the enviroment.
No, that woman is not his wife. He to her as "ONE OF my lovelies". But that s his son. The more you watch this movie, you pick up so many things. The worst things about "Alonzo" is that he's modeled after a real person. Denzel was so in character, he kept himself separate from his family until filming was complete. He also got a really hard time from some members of the Black community. We really appreciated that he played noble roles and was such a role model. All the great characters and THIS is the one he was rewarded for. Regardless, he's a talent.
This movie has no business being as it good as it is. Totally one of those thing someone pressured me into watching and when they described I was like "Nah that isn't really my season". Then I finally watched. Everyone says the award winning performance but I think the entire crew hit the bullseye and that's what makes it so good.
You know, it isn't that Denzel Washington won an Oscar for this performance, it is the fact that he did it while IMPROVISING the confrontation in the parking-lot and the famous "King Kong ain't got s**t on me!" line.
Alonzo is loosely based on a real life convicted cop Rafael Pérez, not the full story but the lifestyle. The plate on Alonzo's car is ORP 967, referencing Officer Rafael Pérez born in 1967
They call him a Fed because they are LAPD and that is just a local police department but, they and all police departments can be investigated by the federal government. Im not sure which federal agency investigates local police departments(probably the DOJ or attoeney general), but it happens
It took me 4ever to get the snail joke but hes right. I get it and u understand the streets. No matter how many you lock up they will always comeback or be replaced by sumbody doing the exact same ish
Dear Biss, very nice choice for The reaction 👍😊, Denzel Washington in this one Is not a Good Guy. Please Miss Bisscute More reactions to Denzel films, you should react for: Glory (1989), American Gángster (2007), Fallen (1998) I think you Will like this last one Denzel against a super natural Killer.😊
43:52 Not only because he is a cop, but also because it is Denzel Washington, at least for me. It was the first time I ever saw him in such a role, making me question how to judge his behaviour throughout the whole movie until the very end because it was back and forth the whole time. I think it was brilliant to cast Denzel for this role because it makes it easier to "forgive" him after his criminal actions once he starts talking about "being a wolve to catch a wolve", "grow wise and learn", "change the system from inside" and so on. And that is exactly the point of this character, that his manipulation skills go hand in hand with his criminal mind. If Alonzo was a no-name actor or someone who always plays bad guys, it is more likely to see through his character immediately after he made Hoyt smoke narcotics. But Denzel made me think until the very end "maybe he isn’t so ruthless after all...or is he?"
Eva Mendez & Denzel Washington star together in another great film called "Out of Time". Its an action thriller with a fantastic twist. It's such a good film
There is an alternative ending to this film. The four "wise men" (corrupt law enforcement officials and a corrupt judge who met with Alonzo in the restaurant) confront Hoyt as he returns home and they demand their share of the stolen money. Hoyt tells them he put all of the money into the police department evidence room (it basically becomes untouchable) because "that's what I'm supposed to do, right? Now, leave me the he'll alone." The four wise men angrily drive off." That ending infers Jake was in cahoots with the four wise men to have Alonzo killed by the Russian mob once they took the money away from him and keeping it for themselves. But Hoyt had a change of heart at the end and decided to break ties with the four. I reached this conclusion because Hoyt didn't look surprised when he saw the four at his house and they called him by his first name, Jake, which means they were already familiar with him (even before the restaurant get together when Alonzo believed he was introducing Hoyt to them for the first time). I assumed the four wanted Alonzo gone because he became too reckless and go into trouble with the Russian mob because of a gambling problem and that he presented a risk that would expose their corrupt relationship.
4:33 See? It's stuff like this why we love Bisscute. 🤘😛🤘 8:14 Always have to smoke a bowl with Jake here in solidarity. This scene gets parodied brilliantly on Chappelle's Show. 13:44 Not gonna lie, if it were me, those guys are leaving that alley feet-first. 17:18 Bisscute siding with Denzel at this point isn't surprising, a lot of us do. 17:27 No comment. 🤐🤣 25:21 Our Lovely Hostess is really stretching to continue supporting Denzel here, but he's about to break her heart. 31:22 I, for one, would like to see more Cat interruptions.😻 34:32 The back-and-forth between bloodthirsty and adorable is exactly the energy that makes Bisscute one of the best in the business. 👍🥃
He's a bit of a Chameleon, able to pass for a whole bunch of other ethnicities (Pablo Escobar in Blow, an Iraqi dissident leader in 3 Kings, even Jesus Christ in another movie). The craziest guy at the kitchen table went on to play a similarly unhinged Latino gangster in Breaking Bad (Tuco). And apparently there's a running joke that the third guy, in the white T-shirt (who, imo, over-acted his brief role here), plays an almost identical character in all his roles (like the Latino gangster in the white T-shirt in Bruce Almighty, who has a monkey fly out of his butt.)
Great movie. The writer David Ayer has his ups and downs for sure, but the director Anoine Fuqua is pretty solid. Happy holidays Biss, enjoy Espana for me!
you didn't get punked by your faith in humanity. like a lot of people, you got punked by your faith in denzel, who's always played good guys. today was training day and you learned that denzel is just as good (academy award best actor good) sinking his teeth into a bad guy role.
After you've watched this movie a few times you can start to pick up on the fact that Alonzo is a villain from the very beginning, but the fact that you were trying so hard to believe in him is a testament to how well the character is written, and how well Denzel Washington mastered this role. This movie made Denzel Washington my favorite actor.
@@Jlastinger88 So what scene in the first few minutes made you certain that Alonzo is a malevolent corrupted cop? Yes, everyone knows he’s bad after watching the movie one time. But when you rewatch you start to notice subtle hints/signs that you might have disregarded before, as is the case in many movies.
Actually Biss, there is an alternate ending. Where Hoyt goes back to his house after the Russians kill Alanzo. One of the agents Alanzo talks to in the restaurant congratulates Hoyt on completing his case.
This came out the same year as A Beautiful Mind with Russell Crow. I saw the movie and thought Russell Crow has to win the best actor Oscar but I had not even heard of Training Day yet. When Denzel won the Oscar, I was like, how could he beat Russell, but I still had not seen the movie. I eventually saw Training Day, and everything changed, I got it. This is one of the best acting performances of all time, IMO. I still think A Beautiful Mind is a better movie, but sometimes there are multiple best actor winning performances in one year, but only one person can win the award. Just like in 1994, there were 3 best motion picture movies. Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, and Shawshank Redeption, but only one could win the ultimate award. Oh, and the 4th best movie for that year was The Lion King. Some years are just stacked with greatest, while others, not so much. The best performance in a movie IMO is Anthony Hopkins in Silence of The Lambs, and he was only on screen for about 15 minutes, according to a friend of mine. The shortest amount of time for a best supporting actor Oscar. Hannibal is possibly the greatest character in any single movie, IMO. By the way you are just a nice person who wants to see the best in everyone but life ain't like that. If you want a great movie then try Philadelphia starting Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. It was Tom's first best acting Oscar. It is a sad movie but amazing too.
@@alejandromartinez1766don’t mention that. I did in another reaction when they asked for more Denzel villain roles and the entire comment section attacked me 😂. A murduring drug lord was somehow the good guy and the honest cop was the villain 🤦♂️
I mean he is a protagonist throughout the movie.. not talking the real story but in the movie, like Michael in the godfather both are 'good guys' in a bad business that eventually gets corrupted by the business. To call either a bad guy, is just not nuanced enough to capture what these characters are. Alonzo on the other hand is the antagonist, I think it's the only movie Denzel plays a pure antagonist.
One of the best movies I've ever watched. It was my first time seeing Denzel play a bad guy, which made me, like you, justify a lot of his actions, until he killed his informant. Since you worked in the aviation industry, you should check out the film "Flight". In the movie Denzel plays an anti heroic pilot. Also check out the movie Fences, another movie in which he plays a villain.
13:45 "something is very, umm, not by the book.." 13:55 "Just kick him in the face!" 😂😂😂😂 TBH, I thought Denzel's character was 👌a necessary evil so to speak. It wasn't until others were shocked that Denzel is playing the villain, did I realize that I guess he is the villain? and that I would've been the villain too lol meh 😂🫡💯
A very young Terry Cruze got a walk on part in this! So here's the story. The entire day Alonzo set up. All the small crimes and drugs and drinkin, were to get Jake high and drunk. All the money stolen was to go to the 3 Wisemen, to pay for a warrant. All the money he stole from Roger, who was likely a cop and likely Alonzo's trainer(that money was very old and had been there long time) was to pay off the 3 Mexicans to kill him and to pay off the 3 Wisemen and Russians. Killing Jake also would give him cover for any crimes Alonzo committed that day....he could just blame them all on Jake. The 3 wisemen all played dirty characters in previous movies. 1 of them in Platoon, 1 played a dirty cop in Scarface, 1 a dirty cop, in a Mickey Rourke cop movie I think called Year of the Dragon.
I hate to say it, but this movie really shows how much people blindly trust authority figures and cops especially. As soon as Alonzo told him that he gave him PCP, I knew he was dirty and he was framing him. But watching reactions to this, I’ve seen so many people that supported Alonso and thought he was doing the right thing up to the point when they go to Rogers or even after they kill Roger. That baffles me. It really shows how we’re conditioned to always, no matter what, trust authority figures.
Such an excellent film, it really turns the typical "Cop Drama" on its head. Ethan Hawke is awesome as the green, but still quite capable "Rookie" and Denzel is amazing playing against type, since he is generally a protagonist. Cheers and Happy Holidays to Bisscute and all my fellow fans out there. 🥃☮❤

I think he will tank with one of the greatest ever to appear on the silver screen.

What makes this movie so great is that for much of the movie, you can see and understand why Alonzo does what he does.

Alonso had power over the gangs through bribery and intimidation. Hoyt gained respect from them for doing the right thing.

Denzel Washington is NOT always a Good Guy in movies ...
True: American Gángster.
@@alejandromartinez1766don’t mention that. I did in another reaction when they asked for more Denzel villain roles and the entire comment section attacked me 😂. A murduring drug lord was somehow the good guy and the honest cop was the villain 🤦♂️
@@brandonmartin08And that is how fucked up the American media has warped the perception of law enforcement.
@@beesmitty3435 so with that logic that makes Jason a good guy in Friday the 13th?
One of the best movies I've ever watched. It was my first time seeing Denzel play a bad guy, which made me, like you, justify a lot of his actions, until he killed his informant. Since you worked in the aviation industry, you should check out the film "Flight". In the movie Denzel plays an anti heroic pilot. Also check out the movie Fences, another movie in which he plays a villain.
MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄🎄🎄🇪🇦
denzel has played characters i have both loved AND HATED! what a GREAT ACTOR! 🤔 REALLY ENJOYED your reaction, thank you! 👍☺
@ 17:26 That's what she said.
Definitely get the Patreon
13:45 "something is very, umm, not by the book.."
13:55 "Just kick him in the face!"
😂😂😂😂
TBH, I thought Denzel's character was 👌a necessary evil so to speak. It wasn't until others were shocked that Denzel is playing the villain, did I realize that I guess he is the villain? and that I would've been the villain too lol meh 😂🫡💯
This is a good movie! When did you get cats, as I thought you didn't have any but have been wanting one?
Biss "I can appreciate a prick" LMAO Sorry, i'm 12 (not really)
17:26 That's what she said :D
@Biss - It JUST clicked! You look remarkably like Olivia Hussey, from Romeo and Juliet (1968)!!!
41:05-41:13 I say that every-time Biss speaks
Man on fire is a really great movie
I hate to say it, but this movie really shows how much people blindly trust authority figures and cops especially. As soon as Alonzo told him that he gave him PCP, I knew he was dirty and he was framing him. But watching reactions to this, I’ve seen so many people that supported Alonso and thought he was doing the right thing up to the point when they go to Rogers or even after they kill Roger. That baffles me. It really shows how we’re conditioned to always, no matter what, trust authority figures.
11:32 ...Ok, Biss has a ghost in her house, confirmed.
Hey girl this is the real world that we don't see
Such an excellent film, it really turns the typical "Cop Drama" on its head. Ethan Hawke is awesome as the green, but still quite capable "Rookie" and Denzel is amazing playing against type, since he is generally a protagonist. Cheers and Happy Holidays to Bisscute and all my fellow fans out there. 🥃☮❤
