    "Call to John" is not a plot hole. He can mimic voices, but he can not mimic the way someone talks until he hears them. When he talks to his foster mom she sounds like her, but the T1000 doesn't know that she's usually mean to John. So she sounds nice and he thinks it's odd. In the theatrical version, John doesn't look at T1000 Sarah's feet. He knows it's not his mom because she is presenting a weak and scared Sarah, but he knows his mother would never act like that. Because she never called to John the T1000 had to make a guess as to how she would sound when calling to John.

    • @ianjardine7324
      @ianjardine7324 18 днів тому +76

      Yeh the whole foot glitch felt unnecessary and patronising anyone who's paying attention knows Sarah would never give up John's position by calling to him. She'd be far more likely to yell at him to escape and evade for his safety.

      I believe is more of like he didn't interact a lot with her so he doesn't have the data to mimic her voice and plus, he was malfunctioning, so at the moment he wasn't copying well, that's the point of the feet part more than just not realizing how she acts

    Rox, I can tell you now, as someone who suffers from CPTSD, if you have a moment like Sarah did when meeting Arnie for the first time when he comes out of the elevator, you're not hearing anything but white noise and your own heartbeat no matter how much John called out to his mother. Her acting in that scene (aswel as the rest of the movie) was utterly phenomonal.

      @@_LexiMae the long and short of it was first to show the ruthlessness of the T-1000 to torture Sarah. It might not have been 100 percent after being frozen and reheated as it relies on software in its brain. Arnold as the T-800 says to John typically the subject copied is terminated. Typically which gives a bit of wiggle room in that it can decide to do so by its discretion.

      @@chrismais I wrote this in another comment before, but i'll post it here too...
      T-1000 vs SARAH plothole explained:
      (Theatrical version) - There were MANY scenes removed toward the end which confused many audience members back in 1991, more specifically how John knew which Sarah was the right one. In the theatrical version, you do not see the T-1000's feet at the end... ever.
      (Special Edition) - The additional scenes answered every single question audiences had without needing to explain anything with actual dialogue, mainly explaining the ripple effect going up the T-1000's body. This was an indicator that he'd possibly undergone some sort of malfunction since the incident with the liquid nitrogen crash. Once he'd reformed, he was clearly confused as to why his body was doing things he didn't want it to do once touching the guard rail, but even still, pressed on with his mission. It wasn't until he was faced with Sarah, that he'd come to a realization after the entire film's events leading up until now, including the most recent one, leading to his malfunction. The realisation being - that he couldn't get John on his own via visual replication anymore without having his body replicating the surface on the ground that he was touching, thus giving himself away. Eventually, this is what leads to his ultimate demise and what signals to John that the T-1000 was infact a replication of his mother.
      In the end, the "plothole" only exists in the theatrical version, not this version. It's just not explained with spoken words. This is one of the reasons i personally love this movie so much. 30 years later and i'm still finding new stuff to love about it.

    "Did she not hear John yelling 'Mom'"? Sarah already learned at great cost that Terminators can imitate voices to manipulate human emotions. Her own mother was killed in such a ploy if you recall when she and Reese hid at a hotel. That's why she never looks back.

      Yeah, I like in the theatrical cut the exchange of dialogue in the garage, when the Terminator explains he is a learning computer, and then John says something about how he "won't act like such a dork all the time." There is an affection in that line, and it's missing in the extended version. I also like in the theatrical cut the implication that John has to go by instinct at the end that The T-1000 imitating his mother is NOT his mother. In the extended, that implied intuition is all gone.

She's seeing what could've been, not an alternate timeline or "the future" or whatever. In fact, if she's imagining a life that might've been had she not been caught up in all this, then that may not even have been John. Those could've been two kids from some other guy that she meets bc there was no reason for Kyle to ever come back, she'd never have met him, etc. She's dreaming about what Sarah Conner might've been if she wasn't the mother of the future and didn't know that bomb was coming.
      And as y'all said, it's a metaphor for innocent lives being lost in the cataclysm to come if it's not stopped.

      They should watch the Special Edition which is 2 hours and 33 minutes. The theatrical cut is 2h17m. There's also a "Special Extended Cut" (yep, a 3rd version) which has an alternate ending and is 2h36m. It's the same as Special, plus a few more scenes. Trust me, the additions are worth checking out, much like in Lord of the Rings. 😎
      EDIT: I am watching this react at 13m50s and they have opted for the special cut! Nice!
      Kyle's appearance in Sarah's dream is not in the theatrical one.
      Also, it's worth pointing out in 2017 they digitally altered the movie, for a few scenes (like in the bike chase, they replaced the double with Arnold likeness). In 2017, too, they released the movie with a new color grading, which in my opinion is very, very bad (with teal and other issues with the remastering). However, the 2015 edition (which is the only one worth watching, if you are talking about official releases) is not good, either, with a magenta appearance like old DVDs (the new discs look greenish in a few shots). I had the opportunity of watching a regraded (fan) version of T2, plus two 35mm (4K) versions of T2's theatrical cut (not finalized, crude, but one of them good). And it's awesome.
      EDIT2: they are also watching a pre-2017 version. The bike scene is unaltered in this react.

      If it was a plot hole, then I guess the Terminators previously, repeatedly demonstrating that they FIRST tell people to give them clothes, weapons, bikes, etc. and then terminating IF they don't comply are also "plot holes."
      Also, in this cut with extra scenes, we see the T1000 is continually glitching after reforming in the heated factory, so it might also know the probability of its replications for voices was as high/shaky as his shape shifting replications, so better to tell Sarah to call out first.

      @@lareh5501no. It simply knew after the whole Max/Wolfie debacle that having the real Sarah call out was the option with higher probability for luring John. T-1000 learned quickly after the foster parents that a mistake was made.

    • @lareh5501
      @lareh5501 18 днів тому +1

      @correypeta the Terminators "learning" is a point of debate based on the acceptance or ignoring of the logic introduced via the deleted scene of Sarah removing the chip or not. What's not debatable is Terminators have been repeatedly shown to state their demands FIRST and then take action depending on the answer.
      T1: Terminator statements to weapons store owner, demanding/listing the weapons as first option rather than its first option being to terminate and take.
      T2: Terminator demands to bar patron, telling him to give up his clothes & bike keys FIRST, rather than terminating and then taking.
      Terminator demanding Sarah call out FIRST, before going the route of terminating her and taking her place falls in line with the programming logic seen up to that point.
      Theatrical release Arnie said he learns as result of the chip (i.e. default functionality based on chip programming), so that _'could'_ therefore be base programming of future models; but the deleted scene required its chip removal & resetting... and one would have to assume that that failsafe was seen as faulty programming and then removed for later models.

    • @correypeta
      @correypeta 17 днів тому

      @lareh5501 that isn't correct at all. Cameron himself said that the reason WHY he deleted the switching of the chip scene was because he didn't want to insult the intelligence of the audience and it slowed the movie.
      We were supposed to be smart enough to know that John flipped that switch, and we can see John already beginning to teach him the next morning. So interpretation does NOT change based on whether this scene was added or not. We're supposed to KNOW that it happened.
      Secondly, not sure why you made that list because it has nothing to do with the topic. Of course a Terminator will make a demand if it wants something, but there are plenty of times when the Terminator just KILLS.
      The only reason Terminator had Sarah call out was because IT WAS THE BEST CHANCE OF CATCHING JOHN.
      When that fails, he mimics Sarah and calls out for him. People who say "he needed to get a sample of Sarah calling out" is not correct, because he never got that sample!

    I remember watching it in cinema. Was clearly too young for the first one, but this one I've seen in the theater with my Dad. Even though nowadays I still like the dark, dirty and gritty first Terminator very much and might prefer the dark and depressed tone actually to the sequel, I was blown away at the time by this masterpiece. Rightfully considered as one of the best sequels ever made. Never seen before FX, a budget off scale with insane (for the time) action scenes. And even a tearjerker scene at the end - who knew that was coming. It was a real experience - less for my Dad though. He didn't think much of Arnold, he just came for me and I really appreciated that. Fun to see the "Guns'n'Roses" when the T-800 and the T-1000 first meet....since GnR did provide a song for the soundtrack.

    ROXY, they never say that Miles Dyson doesn't know what he's working on or that he's working on something nefarious. He says that when he asked where the weird tech they're studying came from, he was told "Don't ask." Like, you might assume that the tech was taken from a UFO crash or something. Their intent was just to learn from this otherworldly tech and use the knowledge they gained to create a very advanced neural net computer/AI thing, not something nefarious. Nobody was trying to blow up the world, least of all Miles. The only reason SkyNet became "bad" was because it became self-aware and decided humans were the problem. It wasn't inherently an evil project Dyson was working on; it was just a Frankenstein's monster situation (like most of these AI/robot/whatever apocalypse films, it's man's hubris resulting in a well-intentioned creation getting out of our control).

    • @JoeKawano

      As to that Guns and Roses scene it's interesting the reactors describe the damage inflicted on the T-1000 as (at 41:53) "it's like little metal flowers that pop up on him" which we first see in the 20:12 scene with the actual flowers. (Maybe the flowers symbolize the T-1000's unique powers and identity, just as the T-101's sun-glasses symbolize him being "bad to the bone," the toughest in town (9:48)...and so Arnold stepping on the roses, shows how he will be "crushing" this new bad guy in the next few scenes. Likewise the T-1000 later 'returns the favor' by stepping on and crushing (40:07) Arnold's sunglasses in the hospital hallway scene, signifying the T-101 is no longer ”the baddest” around... )

    The reason the T1000 didnt terminate Sarah, was because he was malfunctioning after being frozen. Thats why he was glitching. You said it was amazing whoever flew that helicopter, well you actually saw him! He was the actual pilot of the helicopter in the film, and his name is Chuck Tambora. Hes one of the worlds greatest helicopter pilots. The CGI in this film revolutionised moviemaking. EVERYTHING you see today with modern CGI, is thanks to this film. One last thing, this came in 1991, not 1992. It was filmed from October 1990 to March 1991. It was released in July 1991. Great reactions to a legendary classic.

    I think it’s interesting in this one that Sarah becomes almost what she detests and fears.
    Interesting too how it’s humans that start the war be getting scared of Skynet’s rate of development, in that they try to ‘pull the plug’.
    Arnie may appear in the Dad role but it’s actually John who acts as the conduit between man and machine, his understanding and empathy points to how the future could work.

    Absolutely epic!

    39:12 It doesn't matter if she heard him. She is well aware that the Terminator can imitate voices. There is no way in heaven or hell she'll stop running and turn around.
    49:18 "Super conducting at room temperature." That does not mean it has to be at room temperature. Just that it is super conductive (0 electrical resistance) at room temperature (which means ~20°C/68°F as a default). For comparison; The most modern "High Temperature Super conductors" I heard about go super-conductive at around -80°C/-112°F, and -200°C/-330°F is the average ballpark for most High Temperature Superconductors. (To put it simple; "High Temperature" in this instance means that you can get away with something that is not liquified Helium as a coolant.)
    1:10:16 After that Day, Hank Shraeder quit his job as a SWAT-Officer and requested a transfer to a much more relaxed Job at the DEA. (*SCNR*, but yes; That is Dean Norris.)
    1:18:32 OK, this is a tad complicated; Nitrogen by itself can not burn. BUT; Nitrogen compounds can, as in; Nitrogen gets replaced by oxygen (or get released from semi-stable bonds) in those compounds. If there is Oxygen in the compound itself (or if the nitrogen has a decent enough energy surplus in its bonds to make it highly unbalanced, yet quite stable), that compound is usually referred to as "Highly explosive". But, Liquid nitrogen by itself; No, This can not burn, and we are not on a planet with suitable conditions for Nitrogen->Oxygen fusion either. So; It will boil off and freeze everything around it in the process.
