  • Spider-Man No Way Home’s release was one of the biggest comic book movie events of all time. Now that some time has passed, I want to take a look back at it after the hype has died down.

I still love how Mysterio just made up a bunch of shit about the multiverse, including universe designations, and then Multiverse of Madness confirmed he was completely right.

Mysterio just happening to guess that they're in reality 616 and getting it right is too much of a stretch for me lol also can't wait to see you destroy the mk1 story mode in 5 years lol hopefully it's actually good and you don't have to lol

@@reaper.-._.-._.-._.-. yeah part of me felt FFH's multiverse talk was written as purely a joke/jab at the multiverse idea before the people in charge were like "wait actually... no that unironically"
I still don't like the idea of making the MCU "616" at all though since uh... that's the main comics which I wouldn't be a huge stickler for if it wasn't for the fact the MCU is obviously drastically different from basically anything that universe has done with the characters.
It has more in common with The Ultimate/1610 universe if anything but yeah part of me is hoping they step back from that and **actually** take the multiverse thing seriously instead of just another concept to "adapt" as their's.

I loved the fan service, ate every reference right up. But i think this movie shines not just because of the cameos, but because the character and plot development is so damn strong! THIS is spidermans origin story, this is Toms version stepping into the best known version of the character : broke, alone but choosing to be good regardless of what the world does. Like it or not part of what makes spiderman so compelling is how he just continuously gets pummelled by trauma over and over again and still gets up and chooses to be a hero, and its really great how instead of just dedicating a movie to the fan service ( which honestly i wouldve been okay with) they took the opportunity to make THIS movie key in spideys arc. You can ignore Far From Home and Homecoming and call them fillers but No Way Home cannot be filler because even without Andrew and Toby it is still instrumental to spiderman fully stepping into his identity.

No Way Home is ton of fun and that fun factor is still there when watching it alone on DVD at home, but a lot of that comes from the novelty of seeing three different Spider-Man movie franchises crossover and the inner-logic of some of the plot-points are super easy to nitpick. The fanboy hyperbole of this being the best Spider-Man movie is nonsense (would personally rank it as the number four, behind SM2, Homecoming and the first Raimi movie), but I still like it very much.

They gave AVI ARAD a big thank you in the credits
But do you know who else deserves a big thank you?
    LAURA ZISKIN
It was because of her and her partner (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the original trilogy and TASM1 had depth
Arad on the other hand just wanted to use the movies to sell toys

People focus on the fan service (which is understandable) and try to say that it's cheap or the movie would suck without Tobey and Andrew, but the truth is, It's a great movie regardless. It's got comedy, it's got darkness, it's got great action, it's got heart, and most of all it was the perfect evolution of Tom Holland's Spider-Man journey. They found a way to not only incorporate fan service to make everyone lose their minds with excitement, but they also did it in a way that serves the story and Tom Holland's Spider-Man completely. Yes, it may have some plot points that don't make total sense (mostly with Dr Strange) but honestly no Marvel movie has a perfect script. Endgame is beloved and has the most plot holes probably ever, thanks to the introduction of time travel. People still love that movie though because despite those issues, the script served the characters journeys perfectly and that's exactly the case with No Way Home. I watched this movie recently and it's still awesome. I'm definitely not on board with the people who feel like it's cool to hate this movie now.

Honestly feel like if this movie did revolve around the identity thing with an introduction to some villan(not sure who) that knows who he is and he loses alot like aunt may or mj and the end of the movie pushes him to his initial decision of changing the world on his identity that ends up going into the multiverse and the follow up film be based on that. This Film spent alot of time jugling things that this route would split up the plot points so they have room to breath.

I thought they didn't want to make Tobey and Andrew not too epic with their entrances and stuff, because they don't want to take away from the new "Tom Holland" Spiderman. Or they would just make it too obvious of what the fans could have gotten instead.

Excellent video, my man! I loved 'No Way Home.'
I also agree that 'Far From Home' wasn't so great.
To me, this movie is like 'Revenge of the Sith,' in that it sparks theories. For instance, I'm interested in the impacts this left on other universes. Do we have a universe where Doc Ock's machine destroyed Tobey's NY? Where the citizens of Andrew's NY are transformed into reptilians? Perhaps Andrew Peter's absence would result in a universe where that Harry doesn't kill Gwen?
If there was one thing I'm mixed about, it's Aunt May's death. On one hand, yes, it served in purpose in the immediate story: not only establishing Tom's Spider-man, but also challenging his morality, making his fight with Green Goblin personal, and also giving the other Spider-men the chance to serve as moral reminders.
But on the other hand, I feel like her surviving would've made room for future storytelling potential. We could've seen an Aunt May who doesn't even know her own nephew, maybe even resents Spider-man, and how that'd impact Tom's Peter emotionally. I almost feel like we've been cheated out of that.

While I get everyone's frustration there was no Uncle Ben moment, this was literally covered before Civil War came out. We knew for weeks they had skipped Uncle Bens death because we had seen it twice already in Spider-Man and TASM. We didnt need to see it again, Peter hinted at jt enough already in Civil War. How so many people seem to act ignorant like they dont know Peter had an Uncle Ben here is insane. The writers respect MCU fans intelligence one time and all of a sudden you're all wondering where Uncle Ben is just because he isnt on screen.

I know this will be a very unpopular opinion, but I feel like much of the praise mentioned in this video is what is wrong with the movie and it’s discourse. Typically, it boils down to “OMG tobey and Andrew were back with my favorite villains, the movie is so good” but without nostalgia, this movie is not good.
Imagine watching this without seeing the raimi or Webb movies. It would suck. It’s tonally a mess, has massive plot holes, so many conveniences just to make a few of the problems. Without fan service or nostalgia, this movie wouldn’t work. Look at Across the Spiderverse. Take out the nostalgia/cameos and that movie is still insanely good, because it doesn’t rely on them. This movie has to use a ton of plotholes to bring in the other spidermen, just to completely rely on them and their nostalgia to make the movie enjoyable. They use it as a crutch, which is not good writing

Made fun of his name, and his powers locked him up for over half an hour. Threw him out the window like he was trash. And randomly come back out of nowhere just to defeat electro??
Why couldn’t he just work with Norman Osborn as the final villains? There was just so much more interesting content they could’ve done with him. But they used him for tentacle jokes. 😭😭😭

The multiverse concept is getting really old and stale now imo. It was only good in NWH and Loki. Everyone loves Across but it’s literally the Loki show with Miguel leading the Spider-TVA. It’s getting redundant. The best recent superhero projects have nothing to do with multiverses (Werewolf by Night, Guardians 3, Shang-Chi, The Batman)

Yeah upon re watching after hype I realized how bad the film was before tobey and Andrew come in. Like it’s genuinely dry asf cause toms Peter again does some stupid shit, refuses to take responsibility, try’s to find an alternative solution, kills may which honestly didn’t affect me much since we barely got any character development from her in the past, then the other spiderman come in and it gets good, the ending was great since Tom finally was alone and didn’t have anyone’s hand to hold.
