I personally think he's referring to the concept in coaching which is the " pain please model" which states that we do more to avoid pain than seek pleasure.
But he's only focing on the pain .
    I believe what's best is
to first take client into the pain of not achieving the goal and visualise this to ' light the proverbial firecracker under a persons arse" then move them to pleasure of achieving the goal and feeling energised, excited happy and focused.
Deeply visualising and using all sensory modalities to enhance the picture and experience of the goal.
Both these directions help push a person to take daily action steps to achieve goal though it's the memory and constant FOCOUS on the goal that helps manifest that reality.
I question whether a person needs to visualise negative outcome morecthdn once.
The body mind already knows that it want to move away from that outcome. So then it focuses on the positive outcome and is driven every day to do everything to achieve this goal.

Visualize yourself actually doing the thing you want to do. And if that's too lofty, visualize each step of the way there. And yes, you do have to think sometimes about risks of failure, but you also have to do positive visualizations, too.

OK It's almost like literally lighting a fire under your behind! The negative consequences you don't want to experience are a stronger motivator (Emotionally) than the positive consequences you want to have!

Yeaah, I just read Choice Point, and this aligns well with motivational interviewing where you create the Homer Simpson rafting down the fork in the river. First you face the grim, darkness of crows with the likely, default future - basically what could go wrong or get in your way, and then you create images of the inspiring future.

I believe there is an in between… the perfect way is not necessarily the way a lot of “I am” guru’s claim, but rather “I will”.
For example: saying “I am a fit individual who runs 5 miles every day” is a great goal, but saying it doesn’t mean you are, and your subconscious knows that.
I have found other techniques like the ones written by many knowledgeable people, to be more effective.
“I will get up and run for (x) number of miles/minutes every day until I reach my goal of (x) lbs - or whatever goal is - and make sure to fuel my body with the foods to make me feel optimal and healthy, which will inevitably make me healthier and more fit”.
If looking at the negative impacts that could come from not accomplishing your goals is what drives you, go for it, but that doesn’t mean you have to turn into a negative thinker. Its just a different spin and perspective.

This gels with how we suffer losses more than we enjoy gains of equal magnitude.

That’s funny. Because that’s how my brain actually works.
Success is not as strong a motivator for me as fear and worry. I don’t know about anyone else…maybe they’re wired differently.

Cool video, My relationship of 5 years ended a month ago. The love of my life decided to leave me, I really love her so much I can’t stop thinking about her, I’ve tried my very best to get her back in my life, but to no avail, I’m frustrated, I don’t see my life with anyone else. I’ve done my best to get rid of the thoughts of her, but I can’t, I don’t know why I’m saying this here, I really miss her and just can’t stop thinking about her

This synergizes very well with the law of attraction. You still need to see yourself being able to do what you need to do. You can’t effectively choose a goal if you don’t work the positive side.

    • @lcshprod
      @lcshprod 8 місяців тому

Because law of attraction is pseudo-science. What huberman said are facts based on researches, mechanism of the brain and body, etc. Law of attraction is made up by humans, mixing biology and psychology and presented in a way so that it sounds fact-based, but law of attraction has scientifcaly never been proved as working, but the opposite - not working. Yes, there were researches on applying law of attraction and it did not work. And if some people say it works, it usually happens for trivial things that would either happen anyway, or other thousand of factors (or mix of them) caused the result.

I don't agree. It's a very self-deprecating, prideful, self-centered outlook by leaving God out of it as if it's up to us to succeed. You shouldn't fear yourself to success.

Jah bless! Know your rules said XXX tentacion, if you understand how your brain work and that humans influenced by their fear could take really huge huge huge instant actions without lazyness and you understand that fear is a decision so you can focused, if exists is for a reason and personally I & I rastafarian 12 tribes and one of the fundamentales well is in the dreads, for some rastas, if your search de meaning well first most rastas belief that JAH RASTAFARI is God and in the bible for example Iaiah 8:12-14 says "Let Him be your dread!" God is asking, in effect, "Of whom are you more afraid, the Assyrians or Me?" so fear or "dread" is a decision, I & I decided to dread God and is public so that's, for some rastas, the reason of the dreadlocks is a decision to dread the Almighty. Fear is a must it seems, but you decide which is, but if you dread The Creator, Jah, and He wants your good and He is the God who mades the impossible possible, then you could and would do everything, for love, because Jhon 1 chap4: versicle 8 says that God is love, one love, Jah love!
