I know that what they do is create thousands of “drop” crypto exchange profile on platforms like Binance in the name of some random grannies and cash it out through them first and through shell businesses later. Idk what is the % on that, but if you have 4+ billion, I don’t think you’ll miss 400mill just to have the rest clean and tidy.

As usual with these men are so oppressed, incel style comments, ignorance of the basic facts is on display. The claim that "the man always gets a harsh sentence" is entirely incorrect. First of all, in this case Heather Morgan was not "just as guilty", they plead guilty to different offences, which carry different statutory maximum sentences. Lichtenstein admitted that he carried out the hack himself, before he even knew Morgan, and that he directed her to assist him in laundering the proceeds. She was thus deemed by prosecutors to be a minor participant, granting her a small reduction in her sentence. Although you seem entirely unconcerned by the actual details of the case, on the off chance that the facts do mean something to you, Lichtenstein plead guilty to 18 U.S .C. 1956(h), which is conspiracy to commit money laundering, predicated on violating 18 U.S.C. 1956(a)(l)(B)(i), which is the standard money laundering charge, carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years of imprisonment. Morgan only plead to 18 U.S.C. 1956(a)(l)(B)(i), without the added conspiracy element, with a maximum of five years, and 18 U.S .C §§ 371, conspiracy to defraud the United States, also carrying a five year maximum, which can be served concurrently according to her plea deal.

i literally just got a scam sms as you started talking about the sponsor of the video lol...
I remember reading a lot about this when it happened. I know the exploit itself was simple, but I always had the idea that more people were involved and Heather/Ilya were just taking a fall. Whenever Ilya describes how he did it he seems vague and unsure of himself. He seems technically sound (according to the judge as well), but seems to lack the sophistication to figure something like this out on his own.
If I had to guess I'm betting the others involved didn't mind making a smaller amount, and allowing Heather/Ilya to take the egregious amount and have all the heat on the couple while the remaining $XX million is barely worth accounting for.
That's just my theory. Overall a great video! Such a fascinating story and very well told by you.

When I think of video essays I think of jaubrey if you know who that is. He started out as a 30 minutes video essay UA-camr like you but then he transitioned into doing hour long videos if that’s what you see yourself doing.
