The justice system is pure evil, Jimmy has every right to those coins. It’s common practice for ethical hackers to find exploits and request a bounty payment. Anyone in the same situation would have done the same. He even told them what the bug was and didn’t keep rinsing them
He hacked a website and stole a bunch of money that was the proceeds of a massive organised crime. That bitcoin is illegal on so many levels. Jimmy definitely didn't have a right to it.
Imagine you get your salary, then the police arrests you, takes your money and charges you for any money already spent because years prior that money was used in a drug trade once. So essentially the "mistake" the guy made was to live in a country where "justice" is arbitrary and the government can rob you if they don't think that you should have money.
To be fair that analogy isn't quite right, you'd have to be in the middle of a drug deal, take out a bundle of money from the stash and say "it's my pay day, kool?" and pablo would be like "ay cool m8, here have another 50k for your troubles kid 😊", then years later while working at staple your FBI raids you and tell you "that money you got was illegal money" and then you'd have to be like "oh what OMG for real? do you mean that when I was buying drugs and hookers it wasn't a legit business? OMG! no way! 😱" Seriously the comments here makes it sound like Jimmy got his coins in a totally legit way... granted he shouldn't have lost ALL of his coins, but the vast majority of his coins were indeed from an illicit source. I truelly wish that he never lost his money, but he fucked up, and that's to me is why Bitcoin is such a fucking joke. Why do people want to use a coin that is 100% traceable if you have enough time and resources? (aka gov) Why people aren't more into Monero blows my mind.
@@svampebob007 Even if we assume you're correct, any third party receiving that money from one of those drug traders would still "make the same mistake" of having money that was involved in a drug trade. Why do you feel the need to defend terrible law practices by such dishonest means?
He couldn't exactly call the cops. And with Jimmy having the exploit 'in hand' he was basically holding all the cards. He can spread word about it or just steal more and there's nothing to be done until you know how to fix the issue and it'd probably be too late by then. Was smart to handle it that way though.

Civil forfeiture is the most insane of US laws. I remember we used to study in criminal justice that people could seize assets and the agents were basically incentivized to do everything possible to find a crime so the government gets to keep it. It would be like if you got pulled over and your car was seized because it may smell like weed. But when you fight it in court, you realize they hold all the cards and attorneys
Oh they don't even need a crime. Your house, yeah a rare animal lives next door and for the good of the city we are just taking your property. Here's 50$ go away

Billionaires often promote the idea that money isn't the key to happiness, but in reality, money provides security and freedom. By investing, they secure wealth for future generations, highlighting the importance of financial literacy and stock market investing for building a better financial future.
The common belief that a stable job leads to financial success contrasts with the approach of billionaires, who focus on entrepreneurship, investing, and building passive income streams through long-term strategies and calculated risks methods not typically taught in traditional career paths. Most people are unaware of these alternative principles that can lead to greater wealth

Crazy that I actually talked to this guy a couple times in Athens GA when I lived there. My friend and I were both Uber drivers and I just made small talk with him but he was a really nice guy (he was pretty drunk). I remember he had a pretty beat up Mercedes parked on the side of his house but the thing that really seemed out of place in a college town was a Lamborghini he had (always parked in the garage at that house). My friend talked to him a little more in depth and he said his Lambo was in the shop getting some mods done to it. He asked Jimmy what he did for a living and he was vague, just saying he made money online. It’s wild seeing a random video suggestion about a guy I met a couple of times.
If I was a lawyer I'd reach out to him, and take on this case for a cut of the bitcoins.I think this is a very winnable case. He didnt know who ross albricht was. Those coins were earned for providing technology advice because he was a computer science major, which isnt illegal. What ross chose to do with that was entirely up to him.
the judge ruled all the coins that passed through silkroad were forfeited whether ross albricht was currently in possession of them or not. its not right but its unwinnable.

3 billion dollars he barely spent 1% and basically paid taxes but that was mundane comparison to what he has. Basically he commited the hideous crime of getting rich in a legal manner without paying off the government with money they weren’t entitled to so they threw a fit and bankrupted him. The justice system is pure evil, Jimmy has every right to those coins. It’s common practice for ethical hackers to find exploits and request a bounty payment. Anyone in the same situation would have done the same. He even told them what the bug was and didn’t keep rinsing them
the real and genuine man was the silk road owner
@@a.....6295But those coins were legally obtained.

@@highestpeeqs9532 What does Jesus have to do with bitcoins?
He hacked a website and stole a bunch of money that was the proceeds of a massive organised crime. That bitcoin is illegal on so many levels. Jimmy definitely didn't have a right to it.
Imagine you get your salary, then the police arrests you, takes your money and charges you for any money already spent because years prior that money was used in a drug trade once.
So essentially the "mistake" the guy made was to live in a country where "justice" is arbitrary and the government can rob you if they don't think that you should have money.
If I was him I would've have moved to the middle East or Eastern Europe or South Asia
Don't trust the government they're full of bs
To be fair that analogy isn't quite right, you'd have to be in the middle of a drug deal, take out a bundle of money from the stash and say "it's my pay day, kool?" and pablo would be like "ay cool m8, here have another 50k for your troubles kid 😊", then years later while working at staple your FBI raids you and tell you "that money you got was illegal money" and then you'd have to be like "oh what OMG for real? do you mean that when I was buying drugs and hookers it wasn't a legit business? OMG! no way! 😱"
Seriously the comments here makes it sound like Jimmy got his coins in a totally legit way... granted he shouldn't have lost ALL of his coins, but the vast majority of his coins were indeed from an illicit source. I truelly wish that he never lost his money, but he fucked up, and that's to me is why Bitcoin is such a fucking joke.
Why do people want to use a coin that is 100% traceable if you have enough time and resources? (aka gov)
Why people aren't more into Monero blows my mind.
@@svampebob007I have been wondering your last question for years.
@@svampebob007
Even if we assume you're correct, any third party receiving that money from one of those drug traders would still "make the same mistake" of having money that was involved in a drug trade.
So your supposed "correction" of the analogy doesn't change the issue, you just try to divert attention from obvious flaws in the logic used by the IRS.
Why do you feel the need to defend terrible law practices by such dishonest means?

Civil forfeiture is the most insane of US laws. I remember we used to study in criminal justice that people could seize assets and the agents were basically incentivized to do everything possible to find a crime so the government gets to keep it. It would be like if you got pulled over and your car was seized because it may smell like weed. But when you fight it in court, you realize they hold all the cards and attorneys
Sounds like a place that I once knew existed centuries ago.
Not to mention they can do illegal spy-ops to catch you, and if you get a Franks trial (unlikely) they'll make you plead anyway
And any money you could have used to fight back would have been seized as well 😂
Oh they don't even need a crime. Your house, yeah a rare animal lives next door and for the good of the city we are just taking your property. Here's 50$ go away
it is called highway robbery, but of course they won't called it for what it is, Civil forfeiture is just nicer name to make it legit
Owing money to the extent that you'll never pay it off is basically telling the person to end it... We have to find a better way to punish people for crimes.
we all will die one day owing money to the government, we will own nothing. White people need to be removed from their power and send to a camp to uncolonize their mind for 9 generations in a row.
Meanwhile we have actual people commiting securities fraud, getting off with less. This dude just stole from an illegal company, and lived off legal income. Insanity
And he only got 1 year in prison after all this. Lived high on the hog for a decade and barely got 1/10th of that time in prison.

3 billion dollars he barely spent 1% and basically paid taxes but that was mundane comparison to what he has.
