Some economists have projected that both the U.S. and parts of Europe could slip into a recession for a portion of 2023. @Kevin Agustin Santiago Jacobo a dDos attack is super simple, all one has to do is generate “traffic” on a website or server system to the point where a system fails to be able to handle the traffic, this is done by sending encoded bits of information called “packets” back and forth across the ports (access points) for the system. It can be accomplished by nearly any random person with about 2 hrs google time and a prewritten dDos machine
@@kevinagustinsantiagojacobo698 There are many kinds DoS attacks, and I’m not sure which the Lizard Squad was using. To follow up on what Captain Mike said, there are a couple of analogies that could help explain it. For example, one kind of attack could be similar to continuously calling someone’s phone so nobody else can get through; now imagine your phone company saying “hey you’re putting a burden on our network, so we’re gonna automatically drop every call you get for awhile.” Another kind of attack could be like me ordering a bunch of Pizzas from different restaurants and giving them your address; it ends up taking you a lot longer to sort it out than it does for me to keep calling in the orders. This is an example of both Amplification and Reflection which is the “best” kind of DoS attack. In both of those examples, the attacker doesn’t need any knowledge or creativity. Random teenagers could do it if they’re bored one day.

One of those Lizard squad members is now suspected of breaching Finnish Psychiatric company's Vastaamo database and blackmailing their clients about releasing their personal data online if they not pay ramsom. These actions eventually caused this Vastaamo company going for bankrupt.
They didnt hack Vastaamo, thats the real problem. That company had zero protection or safeguards and the data was easily accessible by anyone with a decent knowledge of the internet. The company was a total scam company run really badly. It was wrong what that one guy did (not lizard squad, one guy who is no longer a member) but it was bound to happen sooner or later when someone noticed the total lack of security. Both the hacker and company were at fault there. It is good they went bankrupt as they were a very immoral company. Nobodys data was ever actually released and it triggered a massive increase in security in medical systems across Europe, which was badly needed. So you could argue it was good overall i guess.
Aside from their DDoS attacks, the members of Lizard squad would DOXX random people who criticized them. If you look them up on google a news story talks about some of the SWATTING attacks they did and mention in particular a League of legends Twitch streamer that they harassed to the point she dropped out of college, stopped streaming, and had her life ruined. I work in the IT Center for the University that the woman streamer attended when one of the lizard squad members harassed her, DOXXED, and SWATTED her many time. They called into the call center trying to gain access to their account. The member of lizard squad was livestreaming the doxxing via a 3rd party streaming site. Was crazy man.

Some economists have projected that both the U.S. and parts of Europe could slip into a recession for a portion of 2023. A global recession, defined as a contraction in annual global per capita income, is more rare because China and emerging markets often grow faster than more developed economies. Essentially the world economy is considered to be in recession if economic growth falls behind population growth.

a dDos attack is super simple, all one has to do is generate “traffic” on a website or server system to the point where a system fails to be able to handle the traffic, this is done by sending encoded bits of information called “packets” back and forth across the ports (access points) for the system.
For example, one kind of attack could be similar to continuously calling someone’s phone so nobody else can get through; now imagine your phone company saying “hey you’re putting a burden on our network, so we’re gonna automatically drop every call you get for awhile.”
Another kind of attack could be like me ordering a bunch of Pizzas from different restaurants and giving them your address; it ends up taking you a lot longer to sort it out than it does for me to keep calling in the orders.

@@SmokeyDogGaming so funny I almost forgot to laugh
Its crazy how little they got for how much cyber crime is punishable by, like DDOS's can be punishable by like, 20-25 years in prison
Shhh it's cause they are working for gov now with hush hush jobs you really think gov just gonna pass up young hackers who obviously don't care about anything so you can manipulate them into doing very wrong things but hey its for daddy gov
Man they must've got a deal with the feds or something, like it's the only logical explanation I can think of
Its fine. The sentencing did its job, they have stopped
The whole time this was happening I was in my "Retro phase" for gaming I had no idea what was even going on I literally missed this whole thing. I'm happy I didn't play online games when this was happing I would of been furious if I couldn't play.
It was infuriating but nothing serious came from it in the gaming community. It was down a couple days
I literally missed all of this as well but in my case this when I got into indie gaming. Shovel Knight came out a month before the attacks. Was too busy striking the earth and rocking out high above the sky.
i think i was effected with this i think i wanted to download a dlc for a game and couldn't actually do that so i just went back to playing the game without actually downloading the dlc
When I actually heard about this I felt horrible for everyone. After long day's of being outside/working people just wanna come home and Unwind basically and Video games def play a huge role in that.
@@jeffreydavis2578Really? Ehh I mean that still sucks but that really could of been way way!! Worse.
Great video Crumb, I remember these guys and kinda surprised you left out the ransom stuff they did. When they were attacking some influencer level people and told them to write Lizard Squad on their foreheads in order to stop their attacks.
Oh man so many different attacks, I really wanted to cover them all, but ended up sticking to the main large ones for sake of keeping the story moving
@@Crumb makes sense
dang that’s crazy, let’s hope the same crap like this doesn’t happen this year
oh it will
dont jinx it bro
There are a few people who might be able to but I doubt they will
These kinds of attacks are know where near ad common as they used to be I can't remember the last time there has been a nation wide outage for playstation oflr xbox
I hope it does.
I cant believe this happened a decade ago already. Time is going by too quickly.
This will forever be a piece of history.
Suppose when the Gower brothers had rough drawings of Runescape they’d ever imagine it would be such a huge source of illegal activity?
They did, it’s the credit card companies that threaten to cut ties that they finally gave in.
Like Mark Zuckerberg trying to use computers to get past his low social acumen suddenly becoming one of the most powerful and hated people on earth
@@fvckgoo9le242 “yep, that’s me. You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation.”
The game was rigged from the start.
It's very common in Finland for first time offenders especially young ones to be given a two year observational period rather than jail time. Often even for serious crimes such as assault, theft, breaking and entering, etc.
No wonder that shitty europoor country has such high rape and gang violence rates
@@sigsauer_firearms no that's Sweden. Rhe most dangerous place in finland is safer than America's safest city

Honestly people should praise them as heroes. Getting people to not play league of legends is the best Christmas gift I can think of
