    On the 18th of August, 2014 a new Twitter account was created: Lizard Squad. They were launching DDoS attacks against many of the biggest gaming companies, and no one was sure who they were or how to stop them. Then, a plot was made, Lizard Squad vowed to take Xbox and PlayStation down for Christmas, so nobody could play. But a new hacker crew was on the scene, FInestSquad, and they promised to stop LizardSquad in their tracks. What happened next was an epic struggle to save Christmas with many ups and downs. This video documents the timeline of Lizard Squad, from how it started, what happened, and how it all eventually came down.

    The fact these guys had over 100 million minor victims and dozens of real major victims. Called in a fake bomb threat on a plane. Costed companies 10s of millions of dollars, caused 10s of millions of dollars of resources in investigative fees and the most any of them saw were a couple of months blows my mind. Some economists have projected that both the U.S. and parts of Europe could slip into a recession for a portion of 2023. A global recession, defined as a contraction in annual global per capita income, is more rare because China and emerging markets often grow faster than more developed economies. Essentially the world economy is considered to be in recession if economic growth falls behind population growth.

I was living with my grandma so when I saw the issues it was having trying to connect to the internet I assumed it was our old wifi having troubles, only for my older brother to Google it and find out that it was some wacko Lizard squad who caused the issue. My grandma also saw this on the news after since she was super into the news and whatnot, and it was overall just a really strange experience. I was quite upset that day of course, but in the end I just waited the next day and was fine. It's crazy to see how their story started and ended. What I'm shocked about the most is their complete lack of punishments. 3 months of prison and a 350k fine and 2 years on watch is literally nothing compared to the amount of information they breached and threats they made. a dDos attack is super simple, all one has to do is generate “traffic” on a website or server system to the point where a system fails to be able to handle the traffic, this is done by sending encoded bits of information called “packets” back and forth across the ports (access points) for the system. It can be accomplished by nearly any random person with about 2 hrs google time and a prewritten dDos machine

    • @millertime7891
      @millertime7891 Рік тому +11

      @@kevinagustinsantiagojacobo698 There are many kinds DoS attacks, and I’m not sure which the Lizard Squad was using. To follow up on what Captain Mike said, there are a couple of analogies that could help explain it.
      For example, one kind of attack could be similar to continuously calling someone’s phone so nobody else can get through; now imagine your phone company saying “hey you’re putting a burden on our network, so we’re gonna automatically drop every call you get for awhile.”
      Another kind of attack could be like me ordering a bunch of Pizzas from different restaurants and giving them your address; it ends up taking you a lot longer to sort it out than it does for me to keep calling in the orders. This is an example of both Amplification and Reflection which is the “best” kind of DoS attack.
      In both of those examples, the attacker doesn’t need any knowledge or creativity. Random teenagers could do it if they’re bored one day.

      They didnt hack Vastaamo, thats the real problem. That company had zero protection or safeguards and the data was easily accessible by anyone with a decent knowledge of the internet. The company was a total scam company run really badly. It was wrong what that one guy did (not lizard squad, one guy who is no longer a member) but it was bound to happen sooner or later when someone noticed the total lack of security. Both the hacker and company were at fault there. It is good they went bankrupt as they were a very immoral company. Nobodys data was ever actually released and it triggered a massive increase in security in medical systems across Europe, which was badly needed. So you could argue it was good overall i guess.

    I like this direction of not only focusing on osrs anymore and even moving toward more real world happenings. Sure games were sort of in focus even here, but I think there are some pretty interesting cases surrounding manor exploits and even some of the really obscure ones often have very real stories behind them.
    I’m almost getting darknet diaries vibes recently and I really like it!

      @NoProblemoBob yea, I'd have to agree. But toxicity can sometimes cancel out other toxicity. Like a fire, the bigger hotter fire consumes the smaller fires oxygen and it dies out. That's how some firefighters put out some fires, because an electrical fire can't be extinguished with water.

Also, he didn't even make attempts to hide his ip, logging in to his twitter without tor or vpn lmao
