This documentary is just as much about Coodie as it is about Kanye and you don’t even realize this until about the last 30 minutes of part 2. It’s absolute genius. I don’t know if Coodie planned it that way or if it’s just impossible to tell Kanye’s story without telling Coodie’s as well. As the cameraman, you rarely see Coodie, yet his presence is felt more than anyone else’s. It gives the viewer the experience of looking at Kanye’s journey through Coodie’s eyes, which I guess you technically are. You start to get this emotional connection with the one holding the camera as opposed to the one the camera is focused on. You feel those moments as Coodie felt them, IN THE MOMENT! So much so that, by the time Coodie turns the camera on himself in his room at Kanye’s ranch in part 3, you already feel the emotion and anticipate the tears. Genius. It was absolutely imperative that Coodie narrate this film and NOT let Kanye have creative control. I predict an Oscar in 2023. What vision. What brotherhood and love. What spiritual connection. Coodie, Chike, J Ivy, and Ye made this a masterpiece 20+ years in the making. Truly jeen yuhs.

Been following Ye since College Dropout…I was painting pictures in my head for 20 years about what all his experiences looked like. My made up movies to put pictures to everything he was saying in his rhymes. So seeing all this footage was incredible. I was high on excitement the whole episode. Kanye is truly a genius. He will be forever remembered as such. Watching this doc, you can see the human. Not the star. But you can also see how the human became the star. And all the people who called him crazy can see that he’s just a normal guy dealing with crazier situations than any of us could imagine dealing with. The level he is at….is unimaginable to us. Famous to the highest degree world wide. It was chilling when Memphis Bleek was talking about how all the greats are hated. It was like prophecy. And he was right.

People so often miss the point with Ye. It's not about if he's right all the time or if he's a hypocrite at times , we all are, and there's things we believe or feel today that we won't tomorrow. That doesn't mean everything he says or does is profound or genius, he's not Jesus, he's imperfect and human like all of us. But his core message that I always find is about love and empowerment of yourself and people around you if you have the strength to help. And the only to find the true strength is to remember that God is with you at all times.
At least that's what I find important in his messages because I like to focus on the positive of who he is, not the narratives of people who don't understand or media headlines.

2 things stood out for me: (1) If you believe in yourself and remain steadfast in God's love & faith, and keep grinding at it daily, you will find a way; and (2) Late Mrs. Donda West (his mom) played a massive role in his career. The 2 biggest people for his success are Kanye & him mom. So inspirational.

I'm only at minute 38 but I had to pause & look for comments online because this is some crazy stuff seeing how no one (powers that be) believed in Kanye except Kanye himself (and the A&R Ali dude from Rawkus). Everything about Kanye makes sense after watching the first 30 odd minutes of this documentary.

I ONLY knew what I read in the headlines about Kanye prior to this documentary. I am a 50+ year old white woman who has become an instant fan! This man is brilliant and has put in the work- wasn't NOTHING handed to him, I appreciate and respect that fact. One thing I can definitely say, after watching the footage of Kanye and Ms Donda West, if EVERYONE had a mother like Miss Donda, this world would be such a better place!

Amazing documentary! I noticed two emerging themes: the stigma of mental illness and the struggle of raising and empowering confident black men in America. As a black mother of black sons, the desire to rear confident, affirmed black men is such a dichotomy, because while you want them to hold their heads up high and be self-assured, you know they will be perceived only as arrogant, narcissistic, and a negative perspective of self-righteous. In this footage I saw a Kanye who was humble and confident. I also saw a great need for rest and the space to properly grieve which escalated to mania. We villainize mental illness of some people to such a degree that we throw compassion to the wind. Praying for Kanye.

Im a nerd for documentaries and I have to say this is truly the best one I have seen ever. Coodie I am just speechless everything about this trilogy was jeen-yus. I understand kanye a lot deeper now it all makes sense just like Ye said. The only gap I wish we got more detail on was that six year period because in that period kanye met kim and got married and had north so it was a lot. Ima say this once and I say this firm. This better get a Oscar or im doing away with it like I did away with basically every award show. Awards dont usually matter to me but nah ye coodie chike and J Ivy and the whole chicago deserve this hands down eyes closed.
PS: coodies daughter was so beautiful and intelligent when he showed her as a young girl saying she wanted to be an artist. for some reason coodie showing this from his perspective literally made me feel what he would feel in that moment so I just felt proud of her as he did in that moment lol.
