damn, I'm kinda jealous of him you know. My mom didn't even care if I understand or not about my education, he just wanted me to get an A. My mom didn't even try to teach me stuff that I don't understand or things she knew.
donda was always the stone. The graduation series is so contained and after that he starts to be ‘kanye’ when donda is gone and can’t give him advice and guide him
I love this. There's also a scene when Kanye walks into Jayz studio session and he starts rapping a verse that he thinks Jayz should put on his song it might have been "Never let me down". And when Jay z hears the verse he loves it and approves Kanye to have his verse on the song and Jayz says "closed mouths don't get fed, if he didn't say anything he wouldn't be on this song" and I feel like that was an important moment in the documentary because if you don't go for what you want its not gonna walk to you, you have to get up and get it.
I showed my mom the clip of kanye and his mom goofing around and talking and realized I hadn’t had that type of relationship with my mom since I was a kid. I started crying and told her I missed her, since my life has made it my family became second and my future became number one, I started to neglect them. We’re better than ever, and what’s funny is Kanye’s story is similar to mine, I was raised by a single mom intelligent teacher who was a Christian, who sat me down and made me read tons of books as a kid, always told me I could do anything with my life, she gave me confidence, wisdom and everything I needed. It’s true, the only person who will ever love you unconditionally forever is your mom, because you are her blood. Siblings can turn on eachother, uncles turn, dads turn.
"You can be in the air and on the ground at the same time. The giant looks in the mirror and sees nothing" - Donda West, Jeen-Yuhs Act 1 Fast-forward to Coachella 2011. Kanye is performing My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The large, imposing backdrop behind him is a stone-carved Greek sculpture depicting Athena's battle with Alcyoneus. In Greek mythology, Alcyoneus is a giant, and is said to be immortal only when he is touching the ground so that the power of his mother can flow through him and give him strength. In the sculpture, Athena has broken Alcyoneus' contact with the ground, leaving him mortally vulnerable. Kanye never forgot what she told him in that seemingly trivial conversation. He held onto those words until he endured Athena's attack: the backlash from the 2009 VMA's incident. He had lost his contact with the ground and much like Alcyoneus the giant, he was without the power of his mother. No matter how much you think you know his art, there's always a level deeper waiting to be discovered in the intersection of music, fashion, and fine art. How can you compare any other rapper to this?
Watching those ladies turn down his music made me understand him a lot more. Every scene was great but seeing someone so successful get turned down for such a great project was inspiring in an unsuspecting way. Great video 🙏🏾🔥
I'm not someone who watched this documentary, listens to Kanye, isn't even interested in hip-hop; and you kept me invested in this video all the way through. Great content guys!
This is a great example of how much a parent can influence their kid's life along with the power of being present. Made me want to connect with my mom more.
I finished the first episode last night and I had to keep stopping the doc to take notes about my own art and creative projects. I was so damn inspired the whole way through!! I love kanye and I'm so happy that you guys are discussing the parallels between his come-up and the creator's journey. There's always been something very relatable and honest about Kanye's creative output and after watching his doc I now understand why
Damn... now I feel bad that I just watched it... took no notes whatsoever😪 But I really swooned over the relationship of him and his mum🥺❤ So so cuuuuuute😭😭🙈
“Ask for what you want, there will be people who want to help you.” Yes!!! I biked across America last year and when I decided to believe in myself, everything began to move into place to help me make that adventure happen. For that trip I didn’t ask very often for help but there were a whole lot of people who wanted to help anyways. Someone even drove over 6 hours to bring me a better bike. Like asking for help is overwhelming but people are out there willing to care if they know what is needed.
The scene where Kanye is rapping to Scarface was huge for me. For one, what a moment! And two, it shows how just getting that validation from someone you admire can have a huge impact on your trajectory. Scarface didn't have to be so candid and complimentary, he easily could have let his ego take over. But that one moment meant the world to Kanye.
The whole experience of showing him as just an individual trying to make his name known really got to me. My favourite scene was that kid who was like "who are you?" and he said he's Kanye and he made a bunch of famous songs, and the kid goes "cool!" and just leaves. It's perfect.
I thought it was fascinating how “sheepish” he looked throughout the entire episode. It’s encouraging to artists and creatives such as myself in these early stages. We can get insecure about how awkward we might feel on camera, or get nervous about how we stutter when talking business to other people in the industry. It’s crazy to see somebody at the top, who’s been at the top for years in that same awkward stage I’m in now
I learned this from Muhammad Ali and studying Cus damato. You need to instill j yourself crazy beliefs like “I am the greatest rapper, imma be number 1.” And as you work hard for it, your experiences begin to reflect what you told yourself, and eventually what you told yourself becomes reality, your faith in yourself becomes confirmed as your experiences begin to Match what you told yourself. as long as you keep working for it. I was a shy kid growing up, and I listened to last call and what struck me was “Use my arrogance as a steam to power my dreams”, and “I love all your shit talking/you got nothing better to do with yourself/ I done proved it myself”. It’s pretty much pure creation, you willed yourself to become something and you willed yourself to go through all the pain/struggle/training to accomplish it, so it becomes yours. learn from other brothers, kanye learned too.
you guys somehow making a conversational, podcast-styles video still feel concise is incredible. obviously you all are scripted, but your content has the approachability of a podcast which i love. great episode. keep up the good work.
One thing I really noticed right out the gate on that doc was how well-dressed Kanye was! Not just after he blew up... But before anything even happened he was still fly as hell! His drip was immaculate! No wonder he went on to dominate the fashion game as well! Man knew what he was talkin about!
can I just say, Samir - the fading of the beard from black into grey is looking really, really nice. Not sure if there's any manicuring going into the color fade or if it's all natural genes at this point, but it's really great. Big fan
I found your channel some time last year and have been watching almost all the videos! It is amazing that you truly found your niche, no one on the platform is doing what you are doing. Congratulations on your success, I will be continuing watching. Thank you! ✨ lots of love from Lithuania
One of the most inspiring videos you guys have done! In the past you guys have talked about replay value for your channel being only 1 or 2 times max but I genuinely think I’ll come back to this video over and over because there are so many perfect points that unpack how inspired I felt watching this doc. Appreciate y’all!
Everything about this is so inspiring. Seeing your channel grow, seeing Kanye grow, and being able to see the beginning origins of these first-hand. It’s awesome to think how early we are in the age of digital creators - the internet in general, really.
Honeslty. This video helps a lot. Lately I been doubting my content. Doubting myself. Feels like I’m doing so many things wrong. But this video helps me know that it’s just apart of the process and I just gotta keep trying to figure things out and keep moving forward no matter happens We will make🤞
Its Insane that someone took the time to document this shift in music. I grew up listening to all this music and its nice to know how things were behind the scene. The docuseries is bagging! 🙌
Just woke upend saw this episode from you guys, saw the spoiler alert and had to go watch the doc first! loved the raw moments. Loved that this guy Koodie was around Kanye so long ago believing in him... he was a validation for Kanye too. I mean its just incredible that someone believes in you in these early ages.... Kanyes Mom is so sweet...... wow. I love watching documentaries, that go back into how the person got started... its amazing to see the journey... And one more time I realized how parental belief in the child is so so so important.... I didn't now have that as much as a kid... but this is my biggest priority now for my daughter. Be that first believer of her and instill that in her - shat she has to believe in herself no matter what she does... I believe that I am doing it well and seeing these examples inspires me even more. I feel like watching Documentaries, Meaningful Movies, Reality Shows and now your channel is my life university. My mom passed away when I Was 17 from breast cancer and I moved to USA alone shortly after.... Life was rough for me with no money or much support. I wish I had that Moms guidance too... Despite how hard life is having that person who knows " rhymes of your heart" and reminds you of who you are and where you are heading is just so powerful!!! Man I am touched ! this was good watch early in the morning... I woke up at 6 AM today from a strange dream, opened youtube and all this happened.. Feeling emotional. Thank you for this content guys... I like listening you and seeing your grind. You work heard, focused, you are humble. I like you guys. I live in LA.in Playa Vista. I want to hang out with you and be friends.I have a feeling it is gonna happen at some point. The last video I watched before this one actually was you meeting YES THEORY through your twits and e mails. I thought to myself this is cool. I have not seen Yes theory channel yet but the concept sounds great. I am gonna check them out as well.
This entire episode is filled with moments and inspiring messages from you two! Incredible hearing you both talk about the impact the Doc had on you and relating that back to your experiences!
Seeing the come up of Ye during the time when we all fell in love with him is crazy to see cuz it's like deepening the reasons why we fell in love with his music. Loved this breakdown y'all 🔥
THE PROFOUND THING OF JEEN TO ME WAS HIS MOM SAYING "A GIANT DOESN'T SEE HIMSELF IN A MIRROR" EVERYONE KNOWS HE'S A GIANT . WHOA ! THAT STATEMENT SPOKE TO MY SOUL.
THANK YOU for clearly naming the experience of (a) uploading to no one and (b) believing that there’s something special that can come if you stick with it. Almost everyone starts there, so helpful to see it as normal and healthy!
Amazing video. Jeen Yuhs really does show how Kanye is a true creator and how much belief you have to have in yourself to make it especially when you’re first starting out. Thank y’all for this video 🙌
Crazy that the album was already written n ready to go. It’s crazy looking back cuz it’s a classic albumin I dunno why it took so long for him to get signed. They had him in the producer box and he is so much more then just a producer.
This episode hit me hard, guys! The unwavering belief in ourselves is incredibly hard to maintain as we upload what we feel is great work, and it lands on ”deaf ears and blind eyes”. My conversations with the guy in the mirror every day are tough for both of us, but hearing you guys talk about your early days while we’re in our early days, is such a huge inspiration! Such a relatable episode, thank you!
I felt this ❤️this really speaks volumes especially for a new creator like myself. I’m writing this with tears in my eyes and I pray that your channel launches to be as big and amazing as you want it to be! 🙏🏽I’m praying the same for myself 🙏🏽💕
ok i didn't know who Coodie was before the jeen-yuhs trailer on Netflix, but damn that man's voice is so clear, smooth and quiet, I can literally listen to him narrating anything for hours !!!
Great episode. The Kanye documentary should be taught in schools as a course on goal-setting, positive mental attitude, and visualizing exactly what you want and going for it. It is also worth noting that Ye’s life post-success-as-a-musician can show one the importance of setting goals for AFTER one achieves everything they want, BEFORE one achieves everything they want.
Love how you guys really dug into Kanye's "narcissism" explaining how you need it if you want to be successful. Reminded me of how Lavar Ball "speaks things into existence" or King Richards plan for Venus and Serena.
well I actually believe that you'll gonna pass NHL in subs! I knew that from the beginning. I subscribed to you guys when you has 30k subs, I've been with you the whole half of the journey.
what i can say that i truly love about this channel is the approach to videos and the empathy shown to those who wanna make it. giving a realistic view on the process from 0-100 on being a creator. i love how you guys have passion! and when I make it definitely giving you a shoutout as inspiration. maybe get a picture of you guys and hang it up
This video meant to much to me. I have been making UA-cam videos for 8 years and never really found my footing. But never ever did I consider quitting. I built a whole business making UA-cam video for other people all so I could continue funding my own videos. I will continue on this path as long as I need to, never wavering. Because I know what I want.
Kanye doc was crazy love this vid and love how your channel is made for creators definitely subbed and bout to start watching y’all more keep grinding 🤞🏻💯
Congrats on another great episode. But more importantly, just a brilliant idea for the music and the QR. I was only listening and heard the strange music and knew that it was a commercial plug but the intrigue that it had on me was powerful. Congrats.
Kanye for me is one of the biggest inspirations when it comes to creating videos. His creativeness and uniqueness has proved to me that you don’t have to follow the crowd. He inspired me to be as creative, entertaining and unique with my content as i possibly can be. If You make content YOU find entertaining and YOU think has the potential to get the views you desire than eventually through improving everyday and patience you WILL get them
"you have to radically believe that you'd figure it out" got me feeling good tonight. Thanks for this blessing disguised as a quote. i'm gonna shoot a video for my channel tonight. thanks for the inspiration
Thank you guys for this! Scene 4 def hit hard for me, I am at the beginning stages of my UA-cam journey and it’s just crazy that the mogul Kanye at one point was once ignored. Mind blowing! You have to believe in what you do and eventually it will happen!
I have been a fan for half a decade and when I watched the doc I went to see if y’all made a breakdown. And here it is! The retainer scenes caught me off guard. It showed me how unapologetically authentic Ye was. Humble yet knows his worth. Makes me appreciate Donda even more. Kanye doc motivates me to create more and honestly go out of my comfort zone. And y’all channel as a mix 🤯
Colin, Samir, you guys are so amazing. You’ve truly changed my mind in so may ways… you inspire me a lot, not only with what you tell about others, but also with what your amazing work tells about yourselves. Thank you so much for all you guys do. Love ❤️
LOVED THIS!!! Thank you Colin and Samir, my industry is fitness and I still find that a lot of times your stories on creators and their come-ups, hoops they’ve had to jump through are similar my experiences. Hearing your take, views and advice on everything has really helped!! Even if my minimal experience with content creation is IG, some Tik tok. Appreciate the content as always, you guys rock!!
This doc made me realize how important video recording is ….we really got a chance to rewind time ,imagine how golden it’s gonna be when people want to know what was happening in our time. Imagine a person like VLAD or any of these UA-camrs catalogues 20 years down . It’s beautiful.Coodie shot this very well very organic and vulnerable shows evolution 😂
The hardest thing is creating and no one watching. I spent months doing that, but I kept uploading because I enjoyed it, this year I should be close to 100k subs. Keep going.
Great documentary, and great deconstruction of it to find applicable lessons for creators Edit: as a new creator, that comment about uploading to no one really hit the feels haha
I have discovered your channel a couple of months back and ever since I have been gauging the content of your videos, and I have to say I am impressed by the substance that you two bring to the creator economy happenings. Many times during a single video, I will stop and think 'this, this is a very good question' or 'I didn't think about this approach, but it makes so much sense actually'. I love to listen about what's happening in the creators' economy and I love to think. Colin and Samir, your channel cultivates both of these fronts (the shape and the content) with great agility. Thanks for everything
Like DONDA said you can keep your feet on the ground and be humble. Stay humble with those that’s stay with you from 0 like Coodie! All the moments in this docu was amazing. Props to Coodie
At the beginning of this video I was thinking these two guy are too nerdy for me, but I decided to keep watching. I am so glad I kept watching! GREAT VIDEO!
I enjoyed the footage of Kanye and his mother. When mom thinks that you are the best and makes you feel like you are the best, you can be the best. You need a big fan to keep yourself motivated. I guess you can be your own biggest fan too. Or maybe you should be the biggest fan of yourself. Well there it is: Be Your Biggest Fan
everything these guys are saying, so far I'm 6 minutes in... this is totally on point. the relation of this special kept me drawn in from the get go. but seeing the vulnerability and how he deals with it to overcome it, is simply amazing
17:37 there's a part in the doc where Kanye asks Jay to be in one of his songs. After he spit his verse, jay was blown away and says "closed mouth don't get fed" how true is that?
I was amazed by this first episode and how you see what it's like when you are the only one believing in your project like that time I reached you guys when I was in LA !
It was crazy watching episode 1(for me) since a few of the scenes in the documentary are actually in Kanye's music video for Through The Wire. Kind of surreal seeing clips from the music video playing out in the documentary, like the moment when he gets his Roc chain.
As a small creator currently on this journey those words from the late great Ali “I’m the greatest, I said it before I knew I was!” gave me proper chills 😩👏
Really love this episode. For sometimes creators it feels like we might be going crazy but to hear it from you guys and really makes me feel like everyone’s in on this journey.
The biggest thing I learned about Kanye in this doc was how supportive his mom was of his work
damn, I'm kinda jealous of him you know. My mom didn't even care if I understand or not about my education, he just wanted me to get an A. My mom didn't even try to teach me stuff that I don't understand or things she knew.
So true man. His mum was like the loveliest women ever!

Jeen Yuhs should be shown in schools. The ambition, confidence, belief and passion displayed would inspire alot of young people.
True
There’s better inspired docs
@NewmexicanMe in addition to common human moments like an unconditional love between a mother and son.
@NewmexicanMe I'd expect this comment from an individual that hails with a low public school rating
Great doc but idk it being taught to kids lol
The scene where Kanye and Mos Def rap the song two words was so inspiring.

I loved that part!

"Closed mouths don't get fed." I love it
One of Netflix’s best shows, can’t wait for episode 2
100%. I can’t think of another instance where a doc had so much unseen archive material.
Episode 2 was amazing

Wow. This format of taking a scene, explaining the significance, then connecting it with your own story is incredible. Love you all!
we love you Tejas!
I’ve never cried watching a documentary before. The scene with Kanye’s mom had me so emotional..
Wait until you see part 3...

Yea that's understandable

That first scene you speak about really stuck with me too. What a moment to have captured on film, especially in the context of what we know now.

The fact that you found a way to turn this doc into a set of lessons for creators is pure jeen-yuhs. Always delivering guys, always.

Loved this breakdown y'all 🔥
You guys are doing something that is going to change the content creating world into a whole new level. Colin and Samir you guys are the best.
THE PROFOUND THING OF JEEN TO ME WAS HIS MOM SAYING "A GIANT DOESN'T SEE HIMSELF IN A MIRROR" EVERYONE KNOWS HE'S A GIANT . WHOA ! THAT STATEMENT SPOKE TO MY SOUL.
I just legit get so excited when u guys post … the best channel for creators period … 1 Mill soon Guys 💯🔥
Beat the NHL 👍
Loved this please do this for the entire trilogy 💛
I get as excited about your videos as I used to get about Casey's. Always something insightful and entertaining to say.
Keep up the good work, team!
These episodes get better and better each release. Love y’all!
ok i didn't know who Coodie was before the jeen-yuhs trailer on Netflix, but damn that man's voice is so clear, smooth and quiet, I can literally listen to him narrating anything for hours !!!
Such an underrated channel, keep at it.
Great episode. The Kanye documentary should be taught in schools as a course on goal-setting, positive mental attitude, and visualizing exactly what you want and going for it. It is also worth noting that Ye’s life post-success-as-a-musician can show one the importance of setting goals for AFTER one achieves everything they want, BEFORE one achieves everything they want.
you guys just don't miss with your videos. top tier content
Love how you guys really dug into Kanye's "narcissism" explaining how you need it if you want to be successful. Reminded me of how Lavar Ball "speaks things into existence" or King Richards plan for Venus and Serena.
I just love the dynamic between the two of you. I feel like Im in the convo.
well I actually believe that you'll gonna pass NHL in subs! I knew that from the beginning.
I subscribed to you guys when you has 30k subs, I've been with you the whole half of the journey.
"you can be up there in the sky....but on the ground at the same time."
Donda was incredible gift to the world. Just incredible.
2:18 he had the confidence he didn't have the resume yet to back up the confidence
It's amazing how these guy can have such a natural yet informative conversation...
what i can say that i truly love about this channel is the approach to videos and the empathy shown to those who wanna make it. giving a realistic view on the process from 0-100 on being a creator. i love how you guys have passion! and when I make it definitely giving you a shoutout as inspiration. maybe get a picture of you guys and hang it up
I've seen YTers refuse other smaller YTers. As a YT audience we notice and don't forget.
Love you guys take on the Ye Doc. You have a be subscriber!
The hardest thing is creating and no one watching. I spent months doing that, but I kept uploading because I enjoyed it, this year I should be close to 100k subs. Keep going.
Great documentary, and great deconstruction of it to find applicable lessons for creators
Edit: as a new creator, that comment about uploading to no one really hit the feels haha
Thank you for another amazing breakdown! On this topic I can highly recommend reading "The Pathless Path" by Paul Millerd 😊
Just discovered you guys, instantly subscribed! Keep up the good work 👏 pure quality content right here
I loved the first episode of Jeen-Yuhs. Fantastic video on it, Colin and Samir. Right on point! 🤙
I hope you guys make videos on each part of the doc as they come out. Your analysis really nailed down why this doc was so great.
What I love about YT are the people. I love to see people's honest experiences.
You guys perspective and analysis of this Doc was spot on.
Hell yeah, I love the content and community Colin and Samir have created. This review was dope too!
Just subscribed. Looking forward to the next one ✊🏽
You’re discussion of Radical Belief really hit! I feel like it’s a good narrative for most up and coming creators!
Yes! The film also shows Coodie's radical belief in Kanye and his acceleration behind the scenes.
This is definitely one of the most valuable videos on UA-cam.
Love the way you both summarise and articulate things
loved this! please do the entire trilogy!
Thanks guys! love the fact that you took the time to read the mail and hopefully you found it useful. Again a great video!
17:37 there's a part in the doc where Kanye asks Jay to be in one of his songs. After he spit his verse, jay was blown away and says "closed mouth don't get fed" how true is that?
Great video. Definitely keep the outro!
I was amazed by this first episode and how you see what it's like when you are the only one believing in your project like that time I reached you guys when I was in LA !
I am so thankful you guys dropped these gems. He definitely dropped a lot of gems in the documentary
It was crazy watching episode 1(for me) since a few of the scenes in the documentary are actually in Kanye's music video for Through The Wire. Kind of surreal seeing clips from the music video playing out in the documentary, like the moment when he gets his Roc chain.
You killed it with the breakdown,do the same for the other two parts.
Really loved the breakdown. Sometimes is can be difficult to appreciate the significance, but y'all do a fantastic job!
