Black Sabbath - Tony Iommi Live Guitar Solo (my personal favorite)

- Tony Iommi's Guitar Solo from the Boston 8/9/92 show. This is my personal favorite of all his guitar solos, because it is chalk full of riffs. Here's a breakdown of the solo.
- Die Young Intro Solo (now used as the intro to the song, which here he actually plays after the 2 min snippet of Die Young, as it was never played in full during the tour)
- His famous 'Jazz' solo
- Riffs from "Warning"
- That riff you sometimes hear in the Sabbra Cadabra (reprise) when it was played in the 70s.
- The riff to "Cross of Thorns" (which wasn't made until a song until the next album)
- The Sabbath Bloody Sabbath riff
- Some other interesting riffs (one sounds like "Brighton Rock")
- and finally "Orchid"
after this he went into the intro to 'Black Sabbath', but this isn't on here due to time limit.
I have a couple Sabbath related interviews to post as well as a clip with Bill Ward hearing "WICD" for the first time, and an brief interview with him. These should be coming sometime this week or next.
Enjoy!
Tony Iommi took his first guitar lesson when he was 5. When the teacher saw him, he said : “I can’t believe it ! You are Tony Iommi !”. Tony showed him how to play 'N.I.B.'.
🎸👍🥳🔥💯👋😁😁😁😂😂😂
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS ❤️ COMMENT!!!!
The ultimate metal guitarist hands down
This is like listening to a Blackmore solo. There are so many styles presented here.
if it wasant for him , there would be no heavy metal, he started with blues and jazz, then he disided to play hard and loud with full treble and full volume ,that is when metal was born. thank you tonyit was all you. sabbath forever!
pentatonic and tritones with jazzy licks too
There can be no doubt King Tony can do it all, I can honestly say his accident was a blessing in disguise. I can't imagine had his talent been wasted in Jethrol Tull. Although also a great band in there own right, im sure Tony's talent would have been lost and never explored had he remained with Tull.
Tony Iommi, Master Of -Speed Of Light Trills.
Dave Murray is the God of lightning fast trills.
Listen to the song "You Wont Change Me " one of many solos- Tony is playing so fast doing Hammer On's sliding from the E String To B string without lifting his finger off the fretboard- speed of light one of many quick "Hammer on's thanks to the leather grip strip on his finger protector. I was in the studio when I asked him to lay down his speed of light Trills on that track & he did it. The 2nd Solo is killer.
Dave Murray is a repetitive bore & the God of nothing.
@@mickblack2800 lol. Try doing trills like him. You fingers will fall off. Iommi is not even close.
Duuuuuude, Iommi looked me in the eye and gave me the horns! I was so stoked! One of the best guitarists EVER.
I'm not much of a gearhead, but Iommi has used a tycobrahe wah pedal since the mid to late 70s. I think he said once in a magazine article that the guy who made them didn't make many and went out of business or died or something. Iommi says he has like 8 of them, in case one goes to shit. It's one of the few effects he uses.
What makes Iommi stand out from many other guitarists is that he sounds just as good live as he does on the records.
I WAS THERE!!!!! My first sabbath concert!
How can anyone hate this tone? It's unmistakably Tony Iommi. He has the tone that, even if you can't see who is playing, and even if you only caught a few seconds of playing time, you could easily recognize it as Iommi. His tone is every bit as important to his playing as the notes he produces. Great post!
The Jazz stuff he throws in is f'n great!
its amazing how iommi goes from the nastiest heavy sabbath riffs and ends with the most beautiful.
Mr.Tony Iommi Rules.......Period!!
I love how he merged that riff from warning into orchid.
I met Tony at NAMM 97, had many chats with him. A really great and unassuming bloke. A worthy rock God.
Black Sabbath and Tony Iommi for ever.
master of the riffs......
He's a true metal master & I love him now as I did over 30 years ago still sends shivers down my spine
awesome i also believe his solo on the live evil album to be one of the greatest ever
3:38 that is just pure class guitaring there.
saw him 1st time in 1973!this is the master&innovater of the metal shredding as we love!!tony iommi forever!!!!
Tony is a old school in that he still knows how to play chords but also can throw in the vicious lead! Not many new bands can still say they have a bass, drum, vocal and guitar. As far as new stuff I like Rival Sons because they still keep that intact! Beautiful light and shade if I might quote Jimmy Page!
That press which cut tony's finger needs a big giant gold statue.. thanks for this deep dark bold sound
Tony Iommi, the godfather of true metal..
For everybody wondering, Tony uses a wah called a Tycobrahe( if thats how you spell it) its really old, made in late 60's/early 70's.
One of TONY's best (if not THE BEST!) solos ever...and I was there!
Incredible solo tony iommi is my favorite guitarist
Our Django.
It was Tony Iommi‘s solo that turned me on to jazz! It was back in the 80s it may have been a different concert but he was playing through the same Riffs that’s on this recording. I was learning to play guitar and I was highly influenced by who I was listening to at the time.
"The Science of Orgasms" is showing up in the margin to the right. How appropriate.
his pull offs and hammer ons are monstrous too
there is no Sabbath without Iommi period! love Dio, Martin, Ozzy, even Gillan did ok, but is that unmistakable sound of Tone's riffs that gets the soul going ... fuck under rated, he is it!, to those of us who are lucky to listen to this ... good job man. ;)~
This is absolutely amazing! A lot of different eras I've never heard together in this solo, and a wah pedal at like 7:50! I dont recall ever hearing Tony use a wah, pretty amazing shit here, blacksabfan.
Iommi's so underrated man he rocks!
Blacksabfan, thank you for this awesomeness! And for all Sabbath/Iommi stuff you posted. This solo is my favourite too. Tony masters metal, hard-rock, blues, jazz, anything. One of those rare moments he shows his potentiality.
I would like to see "animusic" illustrate this whole thing! Iommi is an insane (in a good way said) guitar player. All of his music influence from jazz, blues etc. converted into the most scary deep dark heavy metal sound, who marked for life many musicians to come, and turn them into different kinds of metal genres. There wouldn't be no death metal if that press took his whole hand!! Just thanks for this video. RESPECT to Tony Iommi
My favorite guitar player🎸❤️🔥💥🪄🎶🚀🎸
So many great songs is NO coincidence! 💥✨🌟⭐
master of the solo
Everything is here in this in 10.37 minutes...Enjoy your life in these 10 minutes
God lives in the earth, and he plays two roles, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler
The reason why I picked up the guitar
I really like his solo from the 1978 Hammersmith live version of 'Snowblind'.
Beautiful sound to my ears
I think that Tony is very underrated on the solo side!! One of his favorite guitar players and influences is the great Joe Pass!!
He summons up the ghost of django at about 3.30...i learnt guitar listening to iommi...love that guy....
Vintage Iommi. The jazzy part that he often does live is performed a lot better with Bass and drum accompaniment like in Live at Last, but he does a pretty good job here, too, I'd say.
reminds me of classical music...
peace of art!!!!!!!!
An angel may as well be singing to your soul when you listen to this
Happy Birthday Tony!!
Iommi e Blackmore con il loro tocco stanno sopra a tutti
bambino Sicilliani
Um dos maiores guitarristas da histórias do Rock.
Black Sabbath é insuperável!!!!
Simply incredible
so dark but so sweet!!!
@lawnshark19 Very Gilmour in parts. Iommi and Gilmour, two of the only guitarists ever to totally create a new music.
fricken amazing. He did a sick solo for heaven and hell in connecticut.
9:00 very crazzy
Amazing. Amazing. Wow.
i love this solo
A MASTERPIECE !!!!!!
@sabbath7081 thank you for posting this you're absolutetly true and a black sabbath fan all the best mate rock on!
Breathtaking! Simply the best
He is IRON MAN 🤩
yes
From all the clips heard from the 1992 Dehumanizer Tour, this Guitar Solo was Tony's best and longest! The JAM portion, which was performed at several shows, was one the best parts! This Boston, MA show, from the Orpheum Theatre, was one of the best shows captured from WBCN FM Broadcast! Cool bootlegs made of this show! The Definitive Boston 1992 (4 CD set ) was the best sounding!
The legend has spoken
The reason why I picked up a guitar!
The starting of it is from "Giant Steps" by John Coltrane
Awesome lead guitar playing by someone who has half of two of his fret-hand fingers missing! Absolutely amazing!!
Insane !!
this is awesome, is it on a live album?
anyways, thanks a million for them sounds man, that is pure gold'''''''''''
MY GOD...thank you for posting this
God , If I can't have guitar skills like him, at least give me his mustache
tony iommi el mejor de la historia!!!
Fucking goosebumps!
Just... PERFECT! :))))))))))))))))))))
I NEED TABSS !!!!!!!!!!
The keyboard chord changes remind me of Pink Floyd's Shine on you crazy diamond. Cool stuff! Tony is the man!
Geoff Nicholls.
And to Justdave1969: What is that ambient noise at the beginning then before he even starts soloing? Or what is that noise that is doubling Tony's guitar over the "Cross of Thorns" riff in the solo, or the noise doubling the SBS riff? I'll be damned if it's not a keyboard...
in all actuality, i think he's my favorite, ever since I ever heard him in 1975
Tony Iommy the best ever!!!!!!!!
Hi, my faviourate iommi solo to!
Do you know where i can getthe shimmering sound from?
Withough tony's guitar.

Tony Iommi, Metal God
This is... kind of.... divine.
im stunned :O

Do I hear cross of thorns in there? around 6:11?
Great chordal sophistication in Orchid
JA PIERDOLE LOVE YOU IOMMI
that playing at 7:50 melts your face off
@xXxKarlaConverseXxXx Omg are you kidding me? There is no Hetfield without Tony
@stevieVantanna Not really. He is rarely mentioned among the best and that's a mistake imo. He's atleast as good as Page :) atleast
lol i love his guitar tone here its awesome
HELL YEAH!
I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure he uses a Wah in Electric Funeral, and I'm not sure about the recorded one (and I'm to lazy to look), but he uses a Wah in the Solo for Dirty Women on the Never Say Die Tour in 1978..
There is one more, but I can't think of it right now..
blacksabfan, do you have any input on this?
