Got mine about a year/ 10k miles ago. It's had a few new bike syndrome issues to work out but the dealer was been great with them. Love this bike, though I completely agree with the crap dash layouts and other niggles you mention. But overall it's fast, loves to fall over in a corner, stops great, sounds great and has nice creature comforts like (optional but they work great) heated grips, cruise control, a quick shifter and keyless. Electronics let you have lots of fun yet still help you manage the bike's power. The bike is a pleasure to ride and own.
Cuban, HI, I have a 2022 RS and it's the best bike I've ever had for winding roads I haven't any issues with it Only minor trouble finding neutral, all the rest is fantastic It's one of the best looking bikes Good luck with yours
Nice review! I got the old 955i Speed triple. Doesn't have the same power but the Torque down low (100 nm at 5100) is just such a joy and fun to ride. It's awesome :)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the bike! Your story sounds very similar to mine. Mine was plagued with a faulty oil pump, oil leaks from a weep hole on the back of the oil pan, quick shifter would randomly stop working at high rpm, frequent bluetooth issues, and the list goes on. Of the few times I got to ride her without issue, I really enjoyed it. I also had to turn off ATC every time I threw a leg over it so that I could wheelie where and when I wanted to. In the end it got to the point where I just didn't trust taking the bike any significant distance from home and went back to a supersport, got the 2022 RSV4.
RSV4 huh! Hell of an upgrade. Yeah, I feel like I can take my BMW anywhere without worrying to much, on the Triumph I have that "I wonder what breaks next" on the back of my mind. 😅
I have a 2022 Speedy RS as well. I absolutely love it. I get a little sick of the "it's too firm" comments, not from you but from many other sources. Yes, its firm but take a 17mm spanner and take 1 1/2 turns of pre-load out then set your rebound and compressions to the comfort settings and you have sporty but tolerable ride. I took it to Road Atlanta and it performed brilliantly. A little light in the front end when scootched back for aero but still stable. After that, we went up to the Smokeys and had a blast. That is where this bike really shines. A little pocket rocket. For reference I am 205 lbs and a mid-pack Intermediate rider. Keep up the great videos.
Thanks Ron. I think the suspension would be ideal for your weight, many of us doing these reviews are a bunch of skinny asses. I did a couple of track days with it last year, and on both experienced coolant issues, so I'm excited to ride it hard this year with some peace of mind. Except on the long straights where I'll get smoked, I think the bike will hang just find with the big boys.
@@armandochavez2868 Hi Armando. Use a 17mm spanner and turn the adjusters (the blue 6 sided nuts on top of front forks COUNTERCLOCKWISE 1 1/2 turns. If you are lighter than me you might try 2 turns and fine tune from there. You can find more info in your owner's manual on page 133. I hope this helps and enjoy your awesome bike.
This was a really good review. Thank you. It appears to be as fun as it looks. Loving the lightness and power to effortless go into a power wheelie like on a dirt bike. Ride on!
Ah, I was waiting for more reviews on the RS. I have no regrets on its purchase. The low weight, sportier side suspension and linear power deliver the goods for me. I have a dedicated track bike and my intent was 20 to 30 percent use on the track for the RS and I didn’t want to spend money to make it track worthy. The suspension is firm but not harsh IMO you need to settle on a balance on the compression/rebound. I have not tracked it yet but looking forward to see what your future opinions are on the steering dampener, exhaust and tuning. I think with two gallons of fuel and some weight trimming 415 on the track is doable and it should be able to play with the bigger bikes especially on shorter tracks. Oh a dragon run on occasion would be glorious - this should be a step or two ahead of the XR there as well. Looking forward to the videos hermano!
Thanks man. I'm really excited to grow as a rider with this bike, definitely more potential stock than the BMW. I'd like to do 2-3 track days with it and in the Autumn do another dragon trip. 🤞
Lol tell me about it! That mode resetting and the traction control drove me crazy man. My DAMN 2011 Tuono had wheelie and traction control seperated and it kept your modes and abs settings etc. Changing the modes everytime you set off got pretty old pretty quick. The electronic ohlins on the speed 1200RR is much more plush for the road and more adjustable. You can feel it right away. Nice review Cuban!
Yeah man, it's pretty frustrating when you realize you forgot to change the mode and having to come to a full stop to do anything about it. Sport mode is decent and can be switched on the go, but you can feel that ABS intervention under hard braking.
Hi, I had s1000xr for 2 years. I changed it since one year for the rocket 3 R. It's an amazing bike but now I miss to do wheeling. So next bike will be the s1000rr. Since I tried it, it remembers me my s1000xr of course but with so much power. ✌️ Thank's for your review
Excellent review. I traded in my Street 675R on a new 1200RR and although I haven’t ridden the 1200RS, I can say that the suspension on the RR is significantly more comfortable than my previous 675R. Also, I’m experiencing the same trouble finding neutral, but found it’s easier to go from 2-N than 1-N for whatever reason. Looking forward to more Speed 3 feedback from you!
Thanks a lot for your experience in such detail! Personally, the fact that the suspension is so stiff that you would need to replace the springs, is a KO for getting it as a pure street bike. This impression is consistent over many 1200 RS reviews. Given that historically it is a pure naked street-fighter bike and not a track bike, that is a bit sad tbh. The size of the bike (and the new engine) however is incredibly compact. Owning a Street Triple 765 RS myself, I don't feel like sitting on a "bigger" bike when mounting the 1200 RS. Together with the Streety's reliability after 30k and its awesome handling, I only wish for some more torque in the lower revs. Maybe the next Street Triple upgrade will get a 850 to 900cc engine, my personal sweet spot for the three-cylinder engine flavor.
Yeah a 900cc Street would be amazing, specially if they add an IMU to TC. And you're right, I forgot to mention it, but the 1200 RS feels very compact. I'm hoping I can do it justice whenever I take it to the track next, it truly is a weapon in that environment.
Thanks for another great video! I really like the direction you’re going with the reviews, riding techniques and training. As for the Triumph, I would definitely consider a Daytona instead of their naked Speedy and Street triples. Having owned a Street fighter V4, that wind is vicious and a drag at the track. Hope to see you at COTA or Harris Hill later in the year.
Great review man! I road both the RS and RR and I am buying the RR as it feels very comfortable in terms of suspension(As you said, lol). The body position I don't mind about as majority of the time I am on the high way.
Thanks Kyle. I was really excited about owning a bike with top of the line Ohlins stuff, but I much prefer how the BMW rides in comparison. I'm sure the RR is brilliant, I'd love to ride one. I'm sure the RS will shine at the track, we'll see if I can ride it faster than the XR.
Glad you made this video. I love the speed. I’m supposed to pickup a street triple RS tomorrow. But they also have a speed RS. I will be checking that one out as well 😀 Can’t wait to see my speed triple content, not a lot out there. Looking forward to your track day.
Thanks Chet, and congrats on getting the RS. I'm very much looking forward to the track as well, got a little time to in better shape so the Texas heat doesn't kick my ass.
@@CubanRider With the Electronic suspension, it is pretty easy to dial in, and street riding is much easier on the body than the RS. Engine and engine braking feel pretty much identical. Cuban, I am an old fart, 66, so it's a little harder on the back and wrists, but they are both fun bikes.
Cuban, we both own the S1000XR with Akro full system and RapidBike tuner. I sold my Triple R and have regretted it ever since. It’s a glorious bike and is comfortable in ways the competition isn’t.
I have the 2020 Speed Triple RS and you have to be in third gear or higher to engage the cruise control. Also, you should get the little wind screen for that new fairing in the front that Triumph sells…it’ll look sharp.
I'm debating between this bike and the BMW S1000R. The S1000R weight just a bit over the RS, but is likely way more comfortable on the road, and the platform is solid in terms of reliability.
What an awesome review. Thanks. I’m five weeks into owning mine. Bought it from new and I’ve spent a fair bit of money on carbon, pro race end pipes and a few other bits, so I’m invested in keeping her. Can I ask what mode you were wheelie-ing in? Was that using wheelie control? My view after five weeks is that I love it and can see this as a keeper to be honest. Thanks.
Loge your vidz, man! Thanks for sharing! Just curious if the dealer told you specifically what fixed the quickshifter? I'd like to be able to tell my dealership what to do when I bring it in....mine gets locked up after maybe 10 min and when it's hot. They suspect maybe and RPM or position sensor. Also, when you installed the windscreen I assume you disconnected the battery? Did you get an error code after? Dealer clear it or is there some way for us to clear that one? Thank you VERY much! Super appreciate the patience and feedback!
Cuban I drove the XR now for >70 k km so sloooowly time to get something new, I drove today the Speedy, last week the Tuono ... what would your prefered choice and why? I live in Switzerland so 95 % moutain roads and 5 % Track days.
Tough call. I really like how the Speed Triple looks, but Tuonos are amazing. I'm not sure the reliability of the Aprilias, but the Triumph have had a few initial issues, nothing catastrophic though. For the time being I plan to keep my Speedy.
@@CubanRider Thanks for the feedback. Thats also my bias at the moment: + Speedy has a larger usage range + power band is less peaker - Sound of the Tuono is better (subjectiv) looking forward if you take the Speedy to a trackday and compare it with the XR after.
Great review, and very good ridin too! How can you wheelie in that way? Only track mode or did you put your TC to zero too? (If I remember correctly it is not zero in track mode)
hello guys i have the triumph speed triple rs too and i love it i am curious if it is in track mode the wheely control will stay on ?? or it will lift more i leave it on sport mode and if i clutch the bike it will go far up but it will go down immediately i like to listen to some expert guys like this guy that do the video it seems that he is very well confident for making wheely with this bike 😊😊 i appreciate your answer brothers thanks 😊 🙏
Great review! I have a Gen 4 speed3. I can't let go of it as they eliminated the pop and bang from the exhaust in the newer gens. My favourite feature of this bike. I'm not interested in all of the modern electronics. 30lbs lighter would be nice though.
Nice review Cuban. When I test rode the 1200RS I really felt good on the bike but a few small issues put me off.. TFT seemed to update a bit slowly & the inability to set track mode & have it stay there. I love the compact feel of the bike though & the local dealer for Triumph is very good. That's my biggest issue with my current Tuono, the local Aprilia dealer is terrible :(
Great review. I test rode this bike and the electronics really spoil it , and apparently they are plagued with reliability issues . Got Tuono instead ,real death machine and still the best naked for sheer thrill factor
Great vids! Keep'em coming! Quick question on wheelies ... can you explain if you have a tight hand grip or really relaxed? How about your arms? Bent but tight and stiff or?? I don't ever see / hear anyone explain this! Thanks!
Thanks Joe. For wheelies you don't want to be stiff or pull on the bars hard. On these bikes with more powerful engines, it's the engine and clutch doing all the work to get them up. The hand grip is not tight, but firm. You see me using clutch with only one finger, because the remaining 4 fingers are used to hold onto the bars. You may see arms extended when the wheel is in the air, but that's because you're leaning back with your body, the arms are not really locked.
Did you get the bike all straight, been thinking about getting one but all the issues everyone is having. Would you buy it again love the bike power, weight, looks just a little nervous? Thanks man like your videos
Finally sorted it out. I think the biggest issue Triumph had with this bike just had a recall recently, adding a shield so the radiator fan does not fail from the heat of the exhaust. My fan failed in the first year and it was not a pleasant experience. I should be coming up with a video soon talking about it.
@@rogerbarfell9075 I really like how the bike looks, and it rides phenomenally in the right mode, but I grew frustrated with having to change the electronics every single time in able to enjoy the bike. It's something I can live with no problem, but I'm planning to start doing a lot of track days and I'm thinking of replacing the Triumph for a sportbike with some wind protection. For the street and smaller tracks, the bike works great and I wouldn't mind owning another one if I could keep multiple bikes.
Have a question do you have to have it in track mode for wheelies? Someone said you turn off TC and antiwheely goes off to? Trying to figure it out. Thanks Roger
Almost got a 22 last summer. I went with the tuono instead because I got a great deal on it compared to the triumph but if I had to pay the same price for both I would have taken the speed triple. It feels better daily riding that bike in the city than the tuono.
Awesome good review think I’ll keep my 16’ GSXS1k…all it needed was a rear shock. After a full pipe/ dyno tune it’s really good but missing those advanced features. She makes 160 whp / 85 TQ similar weight like yours you don’t see many of these either
Brake those I great bikes for sure, specially considering these Speed Triples are $20k after fees and taxes. There's a reason I'm keeping my 2016 BMW and not trading it in.
What's your opinion on the Tuono V4 vs this bike? I've had my RS for a year now and have enjoyed 7000 faultless miles on it, but I've been lusting over the Tuono for years due to all the moto journalist raving about it. Would it be a mistake to get rid of my RS for a Tuono?
Ride one if you have the chance. They're both amazing bikes but that Aprilia V4 is a whole different experience. I have a 2016 Tuono v4 factory, did 30k km from new in 2 years and man.. everytime I hop on it it blows my mind.
If they had less intrusive electronics, or more customisable electronics I'd be very, very interested. The 1200RR and RS are nearly very brilliant bikes, probably would go for the RR, I'm so use to a fairing.
Yeah I'm split on whether I would have gone for the RS or the RR if I were buying new. The RR is the better bike, but I like the RS styling and riding position better.
That is an excellent question. I'm trying to do parking lot drills so I feel confident on the Speed, so initially I should have similar lap times. Once I get comfortable on it though, I should be faster on the Triumph.
Bro 😎 I bought triumph 1200 rs it’s set up to the uk 🇬🇧 had no issues quick shift works neutral works well got to do things smoothly cruise control works at 30 mph are octane is 99 so get more Bhp
I went with the new mt10 sp. I loved this new look, the light weight, and the sound, but ultimately I felt it fall short on electronics and the complicity in simple maintenance items, also I already have a superbike for the track, the mt10 is more comfortable doing longer rides and less likely to break down and leave me stranded.
Can’t say I would buy one… because I just did. Still in the pre 300 miles and trying to follow the RPM recommendations - painful. But the agility is amazing. My skill level is waaay below yours so I can’t imagine me having any gripes on the bikes limits.
Hi Cuban rider I'm from UK a have a 1200rs you mention you had transmission issues? Mine is also playing up using quickshifter put it in 5th then suddenly it goes into 4th but a delay then the chain snaps tight and nearly chucks you off.....
Yes, it stared with the quick shifter not wanting to work, then it eventually graduated to a transmission fault on the screen. It was the shift positioning sensor according to my dealership.
Are the center bars holding the butterfly plates in your throttle bodies all the same color? Mine has a gold bar on cylinder #1 and black bars on #s 2 and 3. Just curious about this?
Thanks a lot for the Speed triple review... definately a bike I was/am considering but no way while the suspension is so poorly suited to road use. Also the electronics issues you covered are a big kill joy when you just want things to be easy.
You says your mirrors are smooth and no vibration at 70mph. Is that right? If so I'm really jealous, mine vibrate a lot at highway speeds. I might try to retorque the handlebars. What do you think could cause my mirror vibration?
They both run 10.5 at 133 mph at the quarter mile, the XR might be a little quicker with the velocity stacks. Once you start modifying the Speed it should be quicker.
I would have a hard time not buying a Superduke R EVO. I love the torque of the V twin. The Triumph is a nice bike, but I would miss the torque of the KTM.
I've been riding a 2005 Hayabusa for twenty years with one mode kill mode and I never had any problems all these modes are crap just gimmicks been caught in a million rainstorms no problems at all with 167 rear-wheel horsepower 107 ft lb of torque motorcycle never had any problems there's only one electronic aid I want is a speed shifter and I don't have that on it all that other crap no good.

Also, when you installed the windscreen I assume you disconnected the battery? Did you get an error code after? Dealer clear it or is there some way for us to clear that one?
Thank you VERY much! Super appreciate the patience and feedback!
Hey Joe, missed your comment. My dealership determined it was the shift positioning sensor. It's been fix for the past 1k miles or so, working great 👍
@@CubanRider thank you very much! That's my only problem so far....knock on wood.
Thats also my bias at the moment:
+ Speedy has a larger usage range
+ power band is less peaker
- Sound of the Tuono is better (subjectiv)
looking forward if you take the Speedy to a trackday and compare it with the XR after.
Great review, and very good ridin too!
How can you wheelie in that way? Only track mode or did you put your TC to zero too? (If I remember correctly it is not zero in track mode)
It will wheelie in Sport mode no problem, , but have to use the clutch and bring it high enough that the wheelie control doesn't stop you.
@@CubanRider thanks mate, I’ll try (I’m still learning to wheelie 😂 )
hello guys
i have the triumph speed triple rs too and i love it
i am curious if it is in track mode the wheely control will stay on ?? or it will lift more
i leave it on sport mode and if i clutch the bike it will go far up but it will go down immediately
i like to listen to some expert guys like this guy that do the video it seems that he is very well confident for making wheely with this bike 😊😊
i appreciate your answer brothers thanks 😊 🙏
Great review! I have a Gen 4 speed3. I can't let go of it as they eliminated the pop and bang from the exhaust in the newer gens. My favourite feature of this bike. I'm not interested in all of the modern electronics. 30lbs lighter would be nice though.
Yeah for sure the older ones sound better. It does feel tiny, almost as small as the Street Triple
Nice review Cuban. When I test rode the 1200RS I really felt good on the bike but a few small issues put me off.. TFT seemed to update a bit slowly & the inability to set track mode & have it stay there. I love the compact feel of the bike though & the local dealer for Triumph is very good. That's my biggest issue with my current Tuono, the local Aprilia dealer is terrible :(
I have great dealer support for both bikes. Maybe in the future I'll own a Tuono myself.
@@CubanRider so would you buy again? Thanks
Too many reviews mention the hard suspension so Triumph are not getting my money.
Did you once have a Duke 890R if my memory serves me? Would that have been good track choice? Duke seems to get rave handling revues.
I really like these bikes, do you think you will be faster on this or the XR?
Solid choices. I love the MT10 and really want to get a supermoto. If only I could have 10 or 15 bikes. 😄
That's my next bike if I ever sell the Tuono!
Do you use track mode to get the wheelie?
What was the coolant issue you got ?! can u please hightlight it .. i too own a speed triple rs 1200
Have you tried a superduke
Gonna take it to the dragon?
Do you still have this bike??
Can’t say I would buy one… because I just did. Still in the pre 300 miles and trying to follow the RPM recommendations - painful. But the agility is amazing.
My skill level is waaay below yours so I can’t imagine me having any gripes on the bikes limits.
Those are the most painful miles, haha. I think at 300 I was already getting pretty close to redline... I did an expedited break-in 😅
You need to be in 3rd gear or above for the Cruise control to work and it will go down to 20 mph 👍
Appreciate it
Hi Cuban rider
I'm from UK a have a 1200rs you mention you had transmission issues? Mine is also playing up using quickshifter put it in 5th then suddenly it goes into 4th but a delay then the chain snaps tight and nearly chucks you off.....
Yes, it stared with the quick shifter not wanting to work, then it eventually graduated to a transmission fault on the screen. It was the shift positioning sensor according to my dealership.
Which one do you like the most, this or the 890Duke R?
The Speed Triple, when it runs and it's on the right ride mode. 😅
Best✌🏻
Are the center bars holding the butterfly plates in your throttle bodies all the same color?
Mine has a gold bar on cylinder #1 and black bars on #s 2 and 3.
Just curious about this?
Love the bike, but too stiff for me
Depending on what areas you ride it on, it could be a deal breaker for sure.
@@CubanRider I’m in the northeast, so yeah dealbreaker 😢
Thanks a lot for the Speed triple review... definately a bike I was/am considering but no way while the suspension is so poorly suited to road use. Also the electronics issues you covered are a big kill joy when you just want things to be easy.
You says your mirrors are smooth and no vibration at 70mph. Is that right?
If so I'm really jealous, mine vibrate a lot at highway speeds. I might try to retorque the handlebars. What do you think could cause my mirror vibration?
They're pretty smooth, but I'm also comparing them to the XR. 😅
Whats the top speed with the limiter removed (not planning to remove it as I wont be hitting 155mph+ on a bike ever again) just curious.
I've gotten it to 175 indicated with a tiny bit to go. I'm sure it has steam to reach its top speed, it's just going to be limited by gearing.
@@CubanRider Thanks and I would imagine eventually air resistance.
What fastest the RS or XR?
They both run 10.5 at 133 mph at the quarter mile, the XR might be a little quicker with the velocity stacks. Once you start modifying the Speed it should be quicker.
Speed triple Rs faster 🤙🔥🔥
I would have a hard time not buying a Superduke R EVO. I love the torque of the V twin. The Triumph is a nice bike, but I would miss the torque of the KTM.
I know, such a badass bike. I thought the Speed would be a bit better for the track, but I'd love to own a Superduke myself.
Get a Tuono 😜
Tempting 🙃
If I were to build a motorcycle company, I'd throw out about 10 rotten traditions that seem to be plaguing just about every single sports-naked bike in the last decade. All kinds of obvious stupid stuff that manufacturers just cannot seem to stop doing.
I know, right!
Shoei GT Air 2 runs good on your Triumph Speed Triple?
