I'm a tool guy myself and own some expensive name brand tools, I also own this black and decker drill/driver and impact kit, and i LOVE it, use it everyday and has never underperformed or let me down at all

Nice to see a normal guy talking about the sensible stuff and not some tool snob who already has an opinion.
Keep up the good work mate!

Most of my tools are high end, either DeWalt or Makita but I did buy myself an Erbauer impact driver from Screwfix and have to say although it's not top of the shop it hasn't skipped a beat so far. Thanks for sharing man. Be safe and be lucky.

I like the Ryobi +1 brand, good middle of the road brand, had them for years now and they serve me well. Thanks for the show and humour, thanks.

I have the B&D 18v drill and impact driver. I’m not a professional construction worker or even DIYer, I have them for little odd jobs around the flat and for making A2 photograph frames for my images. For someone like myself who might only use them occasionally, they are worth their weight in gold.

Great video there, Black & Decker owns Dewalt so if you buy there tools your getting higher spec. You may recall Black & Decker's Professional range mostly in 110 v for trade use, this was rebranded Dewalt in the late 80's early 90's by the company.

I've got a 12v black and decker drill from Walmart for $30. It's been excellent, I don't use it as often as my 18v drill. The battery stays charged even when it sits for several months. I've also got a black and decker jigsaw which I don't use a lot, but it has pretty good power. Black and Decker isn't too bad.

Great video and information... about every 3-5 years drill change. They get more compact, more power, batteries last longer. Look at how fast we went from 14v to 20v and now 24v drivers... agreed totally on overpriced equipment when off names are just as good...

same I got 24v drill but most use 18v now, I came here as looking to hire but might buy an impact driver just to put sound box for air compressor together, seen air impact wrench can be used as an impact driver

I have makita , kobalt, black decker, crafsman. And as much as I wish I had the money to get the Dewalts and Botch. I have to say that I think your right. The BnDs feel great in the hand and power wise the 20 v BnDs drill and impacts have more strength than my 12v makita. And are beter than the kobalt. I really think that BnD could make a top tier affordable powertool if they tride.... just having there tools at first bc they were affordable. I find myself going back to them again and again. They are winning me over

+mike nicholas I've got to admit mike I've always gone for name brand names but iam well impressed with this just the charge time thats abit slow I paid 350 for my dewalt the battery's don't last now so I think iam converted

at the end of the day its horses for courses,i like the ryobi but most units are sold bare and you need to sell a kidney for the battery and charger s i wont buy one,as for my impact driver charger unit its a fast charge so im well impressed, i went into my local diy and the only thing different between the brands was the weight compared to some of the cheap ones and battery size,im not knocking you or anyone else for spending loads on tools i just dont see the point in spending that much

+mike nicholas iam definitely seeing that point now mate what put me of cheap drills I bought one from argos about 10 years ago extream brand about 20 quid it lasted about 5 months and it was rubbish but I think things have got better now

I have ridgid impact and drill but before I had them I have the bnd impact and it's awesome. I just did a little comparison video the other day and the bnd seemed to do better. You can check it out on my channel if you want. It is the newest vid i have.
I feel I was late to the party also, I never understood what they were on about until I got one and then I said "now I get it"

I have hilka pro drill and driver. 30 quid one and 35 the other.
I share your views that these "lesser brands" make perfectly reasonable tools for DIY projects. I also found air compressor tools from Clarke from machine mart a good investment

  • @GregVirgoe

The first battery drill I bought was a DIY own brand for 19.99
It still works now albeit the battery doesn’t last long these days. My latest drill and driver combo were Dewalt 18v lithium set for £150 pair with two batteries. I thought that was great value for money.
What’s your thoughts on Dewalt tools Paul? Keep up the good work mate. 👍🏼

Hi Paul, I agree with your basic premise that for the average guy the expense of the big name tools is not justified. I use drills by MacAllister from B&Q and find them more than adequate for my needs and they have great battery life and are good value. Keep up the good work 😊

I think you are quite right Paul when you say the cheaper drills are getting better. I suspect the technology, build methods and manufacturing techniques are filtering down from the high end market. If I were to replace a tool that is not one of my heavy use machines I would certainly take a look at the cheaper machines. Your Mrs would be one lucky lady if you were to buy her a lathe! and the chocolates, well, that's just spoiling her! (he he) Thanks for posting :-)

Sounds like you've eaten those chocolates.
I haven't looked at cheaper drills for the last two drills I bought which were, in order, a Makita and a DeWalt both for £100 from B&Q. So much better. I'm not sure I would risk a cheaper drill. I would like an impact driver but not something I can afford or justify at the moment.
Good video though. Maybe do a follow-up video in 6 or 12 months.

I have the B&D impact driver and it zips the screws in quicker than shit. Not sure what you're thinking of. Now I do know that the cheap "Hammer Drills" aren't worth shit. To drill a hole quickly in concrete you need a proper rotary hammer.
