  • We are "Unboxing" the one and only Eastman ER-M "El Rey" electric mandolin!
This is one of the coolest designs to come out of the Eastman factory, not that we expected any less from an Otto D'Ambrosio designed mandolin.
You can shop all of our Eastman mandolin inventory here: theacousticshoppe.rainadmin.c...

Too much talking. Not enough demo on the El Rey. Which looks to be a stunning piece of kit. How about another vid where you play it a bit more. And maybe, not with an overdriven acoustic guitar. Just because the mando has a pickup doesn't mean it has to do "rock". .... just saying.

Very cool. I love getting electric tones like that from my acoustics and hollow bodies. Often one would never know the instrument if not seen. This video proves that.

Gary Nava from the UK makes super electric mandos. Worth checking out his vids

Hey guys thank you for this demo and unboxing. Yall helped to convinced me that I couldn't live another day with out my El Ray mando. I think I've had it for 3 months. Before I bought mine there were only your and one other demo of the El Ray around and thats about all now. Its has great punchy voicings. A bit shy of acoustic sounding but close enough while being recognizable as a mandolin. I have been playing thru my Genz Benz compac 300 amp pretty loud and clean then a line out to my mixer. Next to my buddy playing a Tele/ clean ish. I wish I had played thru my mixer and powered speaker yesterday @ our gig but didn't. Welp that said. I just now today fired those up. Straight into the powered speaker no eq except the tone knob( 1000 watt Alesis 12 " ) sounded more electric. Then with a LR Baggs venue which is a good eq etc into powered speaker. That is very good. Then I tried a Yamaha a mg 10xu mixer into the same speaker eeh ok not very warm The LR Baggs is better than the Yamaha. With that mixer and the LR Baggs it was better. Any of my My Genz benz or the newer Genzler acoustic pro amps sound much warmer and better than the mixer or any other pa / mixer I've ever used. The pre amps make the big difference to my ears. Tube amps sound good pushed they will break up. I have alot of nice acoustic mandos but I dislike the pizeo pups bumps string attack etc. So this El Ray mando ,my Godin A8 and National Reso RM1 are my gig mandos.

We need more AcousticShoppe videos! Your shop is a bucket list destination of mine. I say that because my wife often threatens my life when I go to guitar shops...

NICE!! About 98% of those that came here to check this video out wanted to actually HEAR it being played instead of the SPEC sheet read back to them from the Eastman website.
Thankfully you devoted a whole 48 seconds to how it actually sounded.
    AWESOME STUFF right here!!

I did not mind the talk; between lines, it was good to learn the strengths and potential weaknesses:).

Why would you demo this with over drive ? Seriously?

More playing first …with discussion after would be more satisfying to those of us desperate to hear its tone ….great video though. most people put the playing after the talking …. Maybe it’s just me ,,,,,, but I love it when people open with the tone first .

Too much Yapping, and not enough Picking! You didnt even show us how it sounded acoustically.

This is like a band that only talks about the way their band sounds but never actually plays a song

To be fair, this is a review of the ERM, so talking about how it sounds its kinda necessary. But note taken, we will make sure to play it more next time.
