    Interesting video Wayne, beautiful electric octave. You’re right about just playing for fun. An octave mandolin forces you to rethink your fingerings because of the longer scale and new perspectives are always valuable! Sounds great too.

    That’s a brilliant idea. Must be great for swing, kinda like how Johnny Gimble had single Mandola strings on his A-50?

    I picked up a nice used Fender 5 string semi-hollow body mandolin in a Telecaster style. It’s a lot of fun. I don’t play it that much, but it sure changes the way I play when I do.

    What string gauge?

    It kind of reminds me tonally of the place a baritone guitar might have in a country tune.

      Yep. It can certainly fill that space. I loved playing "My Window Faces the South" on this instrument live with 3TO. Very versatile 👌

    I did this with a Flight Centurion electric tenor ukulele. $260, 17"/432mm scale length, 35mm nut, truss rod. G2-E4.

      That was a great idea! Stay tuned for an extensive look at electric mandolin scale length options coming soon....

      @@waynesworldofmandolin3616 I was fortunate that I was able to set it up. The experience has made me more cautious about doing it again. I think 17" is pushing it. The 4th string's tone?/timbre? suffers; it sounds muted.
      I look forward to your update.

    I’m having a difficult time finding a “4 string octave electric mandolin” like this one. You said this was custom built right? Do you have any suggestions as to where I can find one? Many thanks in advance.

      Check out Hinde Custom Instruments. You can order one from the man himself. You won't be disappointed!

    What amp are you using with this electric mandolin I know it has reverb.

    • @waynesworldofmandolin3616
      @waynesworldofmandolin3616  2 роки тому

      It's an Orange practice amp. It has several built-in effects that include 3 different reverbs.....

    Can you share the strings you use on that? Gauge and such? Super fun!

      I've experimented with a little of everything. When Steve completed the build we went with flatwound strings thinking it would be necessary to achieve the tension I wanted on the strings. Overtime I have settled into much lighter gauges. I'll be releasing a video very soon that demonstrates many different scale lengths for E-Mandos and what I have found each to be useful for musically. Thx for the question and I'll be more specific with an answer after I've prepared to create that content. Stay tuned....

    what strings are you using with this awesome instrument?

    • @waynesworldofmandolin3616
      @waynesworldofmandolin3616  Рік тому

      They're definitely D'Addarrio strings but I don't recall the exact gauges. I'm going to make a video soon that will discuss and demonstrate many different scale lengths foe electric mandolin. I'll do my best to be more specific in that content. Stay tuned....

      @@danielicastogarcia4023I use standard D’Addario 10 gauge strings and they work fantastic!
