First of all, the way you put together your video is awesome. Your machinist skills are evident. This project must have taken days to accomplish, all shown in a mere 19 minutes. I think you did a phenomenal job. I didn't expect the powder coating, that was great. Now you have a workable tool to be proud of. Thank you for taking the time to create this, I enjoyed it.

There is something truly satisfying about freshly machined steel, especially when it’s apparent that whoever is doing the machining knows what they’re doing. I really missed my calling to be a machinist, it’s something that I regret. Great work! 💪🤟👊

Hey, me too. I wanted to be a machinist when I left school but back in 1980 you got no help writing applications or CV’s. I can only imagine how bad my applications were. I’m 60 this year but it was probably for the best as I doubt I would enjoy machining as a hobby. I’ve had a lathe for many years but it was only last year that I picked up a Bridgeport style mill. Now I spend my retirement playing/ learning in my workshop and enjoying nearly every moment of it.
I still get annoyed with myself when I stuff it up 😂😂😂. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺

@@scroungasworkshop4663 how cool, I’m not at a place where I can have machines like that, maybe someday. I’m 54, and disabled from working in construction all my life, and though I can’t do a lot of the things that I used to do, I still love to tinker around at my workbench like a man possessed! 😂 So where in Australia are you from? My mom and younger sister lived in Albany and Mandurah for many years, my mom passed away last year but my sister still lives there. I’ve been there twice now, the first time when I was a young man, I backpacked from Albany to Darwin and had the time of my life! It was really cool! Back then, in the 80’s, Australia was like America in the 50’s. No crime to speak of, complete strangers would invite me into their homes, I made a lot of friends and had a blast! Last time, me and my sister went over to have a family reunion, about a year and a half before my mom passed, so it was good times, alright mate, sorry for the winge, as you all say!, 😂😂take care, cheers! 🤟🤙

@@dozerboy67 Hi Phil, really nice to hear from you. I certainly didn’t think you were whinging, I was just sad to hear that your work has made your retirement physically difficult. I live in Canberra over on the east coast and maybe your memory is good enough to remember that it’s the capital city of Australia. Perth is about 4000kms away but I have been to Albany, Mandurah and Darwin in my travels around our great brown land. I’m sorry that your mum passed away but I am glad you have a lot of happy memories of Australia. I am dealing with injuries too as my wife and I were hit head on about two years ago by a driver on drugs. We both suffered serious injuries but the driver and his friend in the other car were killed. Now I live with my right ankle fused, my right wrist fused and of course i'm right handed. My left shoulder was reconstructed and I have plates in my right shin from the knee almost to the ankle as that was split down the middle and leaked bone marrow and blood into my leg. I need special shoes because every bone in my right foot was fractured and most bones in my left as well so they changed shape. The airbags deployed but caused substantial hearing loss so I now have hearing aids. Now who’s whinging? I still get pain in various places and I’m still working out what I can’t do with my fused wrist. That’s very frustrating and my balance is hopeless as I’m still finding my new feet. Even with the accident we still feel lucky because we’re still alive, we can still walk and we’re still together. We are getting better every day but we have two friends that have been diagnosed with illnesses that make them worse everyday and will shorten their lives.
I’m glad you get in your workshop and enjoy it. Doing things you love is the whole point of retirement even if what you do seems pointless to others. One of the things I love about YT is it shows there are other people out there doing more pointless things than me and collecting weirder things than me. Sorry, too much rambling.
Cheers my friend and good luck. 👍👍👍

It’s a pleasure to watch someone who can work with their hands truly a great job, can I suggest 2 things, one is on the rollers you should put 2 rebates maybe 5mm and 10mm for rolling flat bar on its edge, and two for your own safety put a safety switch on both sides of that machine, the torque it is putting on those rollers will definitely pull you in, and it would be a shame to lose a great talent, I’m not criticizing at all, being a metal fabricator myself it’s frightening what something like that could do to you, 👍stay safe

@Made by Madman - Awesome build. With an Arduino one could add an encoder, to detect when the workpiece reaches a stop point at either end of its travel and reverses the direction. It would remove the guesswork out of having to manually switch direction. You could also combine a stepper motor, to progressively tighten the pinch roller at the end of each stroke, that could easily reproduce faster more consistent work, via presets catering for various different materials thicknesses and lengths. I hope my meanderings fuel your passion for invention. 👍🏻‍

After all this the coolest thing I saw was that straight-edged ruler with the handle on it. Genius!
Awesome machine. Very well done. Many thanks.

Madman as usual you are brilliant, thanks for showing us your creations! Everything seems easy ... but you must first do the project and then know how to use the equipment skillfully. It's a real pleasure to see you at work, by the way, book me a place near you the day after the end of the world, don't forget your equipment! 😁
