An interesting note to this track is that it brings in a lot of leimotivs from previous pieces.
The track is from a part of a Raid boss, and is a really major point in Destiny's story
0:17 - 0:52 is the Cabal's theme, a heavily militarized faction in Destiny.
1:04 - 1:13 is the Light/Guardian's theme; our theme, which starts out loud then becomes drowned out by the Darkness/Witness' theme.
1:13 - 1:20 is part of the Darkness/Witness' theme, which is essentially Destiny's "big bad."
2:22 - 2:35 references a previous expansion, Beyond Light, which was about obtaining new powers from the darkness,
A reason why it has all of these different leimotivs is because its about a whole Light vs Dark battle which has been developed for almost 9 years now and is coming to a conclusion by early next year.
great breakdown, i remember being in this boss for the first time and thinking why do i hear cabal music, is this a bug? lol
I’m pretty sure after the guardian’s motif Rhulk’s theme starts
There's the part where the light theme mixes with the neomuna theme. It's my favorite part of the song. I think it's the second dos phase if you're listening to the game version.
0:17 is actually the witness’ theme
This raid is more of using both light and dark than light vs dark
Glad to hear you liked it! The horn melody you hear at 3:09 is the player character's theme, and during these big boss fights it serves as an audio queue that the boss is now vulnerable to attack.
For some additional context and to showcase Destiny's incredible art design, this is the opening to the boss fight this song is from: ua-cam.com/video/AcI-kupB7sM/v-deo.html
The Cabal part at 0:40 - 0:47 has rung in my head for the last 8 years, for the longest time I never remembered where it came from until I got back into the series late 2019. The original is called Cabal stomp from Destiny 1, I just love how they kept these themes throughout the years. It's refreshing to find a franchise that keeps the music and adds to it instead of wiping it or completely slashing it.
If you can hear the extended version of this soundtrack you will love it even more, trust
My thoughts exactly
agreed, I think she'd especially love the first damage phase soundtrack.
@@akka85882:40 is actually part of the dps I believe the second. Shits burned into my head after contest
@@adamboy0559final stand
Destiny 2 never ceases to amaze with the soundtracks, also a big fan of the Strings they can add a variety of textures to any soundtrack
agreed!! adore their string writing
Best track from the new expansion!
Hearing this for the first time at the end of the day 1 raid was epic.
Honestly the best thing about Destiny music is how they blend motifs from other tracks like in this one you hear parts of Cabal Stomp with the Darkness synth horns etc.
i love to hear there are motifs carrying across pieces! i haven't heard enough to start picking up on it but i love to hear it
@@emyoung Those metalic airplanes are like the Darkness (the big bad) theme, you can hear it fight with its ennemy the light (the more heroic moments)in a lot of destiny music. Its very obvious while listening to "The first disciple"
@@emyoung few suggestion if you to deep dive into darkness theme music, Beyond Light title music, Shadowkeep - Salvation, _especially_ Salvation soundtrack.
Nah bro the best one was Discipline
The in game version is godly, since it changes with gameplay. When you can do damage to the Boss (who is Nezarec, the final God of Pain, someone who has been in the lore hidden for years, supposedly causing mass nightmares to people, haunting your dreams) the damage phase part of the OST takes over (those really angelic voices). The saddest part is that in the official cut of the song it doesn't appear, and it probably is the best clip they have done in any of their OSTs
The song name is also rad as hell, since it means Fear of Dreams. Which comes from the boss haunting people across the dollar system in their minds while they sleep, causing hallucinations and becoming mad like a puppeter pulling the strings.
I'd love to react to the in-game version too, I'm hearing that it has some exclusive sections !
@@emyoungI'd definitely give the In-game version a listen. It's even better than this version IMO
Should be easy to find on YT by searching Oneirophobia Full Action
You can hear the part he is talking about in the video that says oneirophobia damage phase track only
@@malthael966 Not really, that is the second DPS phase which in my opinion is less epic than the first one, which is only in game
Ah yes i too hate when someone haunts me across the "dollar system"💀
The deep synthed leitmotif at 0:52 is the theme of the main villain, the Witness. The name of the track is "Salvation." One of the major themes of the expansion and the raid this piece comes from is using the powers of Light and Darkness together to defeat the Witness, and this piece has them: Inner Light (1:04), the Guardian's theme, and Look Within (2:20), the Darkness powers theme. The horns at 3:10 are the Traveler's theme from way back in Destiny 1.
The female vocals at 1:33 are the Lightfall main theme.
The female vocals aren’t necessarily lightfalls. There more to represent the light as when you hear them we are doing damage to nezarec and overcoming him in the witnesses pyramid. He also like rhulk has the power to kill us in seconds but instead of arrogance it was that he was just reborn and lacked his full power. He also is only vulnerable as he’s trying to use both light and dark at the same time instead of using the void that he has mastered by this point
Love this song, great reaction! The version that you listened to actually leaves out one of the best parts of the song, I'd highly recommend giving the full action version a listen. Destiny can be weird about uploading the full in-game versions of their tracks for some odd reason
I've seen one or two comments about that - I'd love to revisit and listen to the in-game version!
Found your channel from the D2 reviews. Really glad you’ve found enjoyment with the soundtracks this games been near enough my teenager-young adult life. I’ve grown up with the story and any vet will tell you this games music never fails to hit the mark!
One of the cool things about this song in particular is the there is multiple songs in this, the darkness theme, the light theme, and the cabal theme, witch is very cool for the game play and the fight that uses this song
love to hear about the motif use!
Some of my favourites
The Traveller - From the Original Destiny game, used during game opening. You get a good feel for the Mystery and intrigue side of the music
Queen’s Oracle - Starts off dark and foreboding, but transitions into a heroic theme half way through, with motifs from The Taken King’s Bow to No One.
Shell of what was - A relentless action/chase theme that plays when you thought you killed the final raid boss, but now have a literal race against time to finish it off for good.
I knew you’d like it!! Thanks for reacting to it😊
ofc!
@@emyoung whenever you can I suggest tenebrium from lightfall too!
You should listen to Rhulks darkness theme from the Vow of The Disciple Raid. That motif SLAPS
ty for the rec!
@@emyoung on second thought, an even better video to watch would be the “Evolution of the darkness theme”. It’s a beautiful example of how Destiny’s music has been so good for so many years!
Nice to hear your reactions to the music of Destiny! One of my favorite tracks is The Last Array from the original D1 soundtrack!
Would really recommend giving the Full Action version a listen. Destiny boss music is generally partitioned into “Action” and “High Action,” which play during the first cycle and all following cycles of a boss fight, respectively.
The official releases generally follow the sequence of Run-up (Action) -> Damage Phase (High Action) -> final stand - final stand being the end of the piece, which plays at the very end of the fight.
Most of the time, I think this is the best version with the most cohesive progression, but the whole of Oneirophobia is so good that missing any piece of it feels criminal. I really love the more pared-down version of the DPS cue in the first damage phase section.
I'll check the others out!! ty for this insight!
The First Disciple is by far my favorite piece from this game. It's so intense and amazing to listen to.
tomorrow! its uploading!
The Other Side/Bad Juju is also a fantastic piece from destiny 2's soundtrack, it has a really interesting theme to it and super different from a lot of other tracks in the game
ty for the recs!
@@emyoung ofc! it was never officially released on yt because it wasn't a full expansion so sometimes it can be hard to find

@@djcalin6626 This is my first time ever listening to this now, didn't even know this track was a thing as I took a break from Destiny at that time and missed Season of Opulence. Wish I could get this on Spotify or somewhere, would even be nice if Bungie released more music that I could just buy on their store (did this to have the Curse of Osiris / Warmind OST plus the 2 tracks from the Whisper mission then imported to Spotify at least).
@@ryancameron4170 they released it for free on their store around mid to late 2019, but they might’ve taken it down since then, but you can probably find the full album to download anywhere
Thank you for reacting to this wonderful soundtrack
its been so fun!
Fun to see you enjoy the Destiny soundtracks. They have been a solid rock throughout the games' history ever since the first game launched in September 2014.
Other great pieces to look into that you haven't covered already would be the likes of: "The Last Array", "Exfiltration", "Untold Legends", "Bow to no one", "Kell Rising", "Shadow of the Walker" and "Efrideet" from Destiny 1 and its two expansions The Taken King and Rise of Iron.
Or "What we fight for", "Pathfinder", "Warmind", "Keep of Voices", "The Dreaming City", "Eye of the Storm", "Frigid Tomb", "New Beginnings", "Resistance", "Insurrection", "Abherrent Path", "The First Disciple" and "Discovery" from Destiny 2 and expansions (Warmind, Forsaken, Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, The Witch Queen and Lightfall).
All great suggestions, and if I was to add anymore it would be: Excerpt from the Union, The Court of Oryx, Long Live the King, Sepix Redux, Battle Stations, The Hunted, A God on Mars (One of my all time favourites, a shame it was used for a strike and not a raid for Xol), Beneath the Ice, Nokris, Shell of What Was, Gunslinger, Whisper of the Worm, Light Blade, Queen's Deception, Distant Sky, & Discipline.
@@ryancameron4170 Yeah, there are so many good pieces in the OSTs so it's really hard to narrow the list down xD
I'm so glad you've kept on with the Destiny music! As other's have stated, it's important to pick out the specific themes of different factions/figureheads in the game. You have a natural tendency to pick them out and recognize an interweaving of themes, but knowing what each theme goes to really opens it up and tells a story in each song. For example, the 'bright, high, open' sound you enjoy a great deal is the Guardian theme (the hero, the player's theme) who's a nigh-immortal soldier for the Light. When you hear dueling themes, like the Guardian's theme at 4:41 in opposite to the Darkness' theme, you are listening to a high point of an epic clash of power. It is unresolved because the fight is never truly over. The Guardian prevails, this time. But there is always another battle. I feel like getting to know the core themes of the factions would make you really recognize the interplay of musical story telling and enrich the experience that much more!
The Tack: "Discipline" from the Lightfall Album is really great too. Also, I can recommend Destiny 2 - Journey (Vocal Variant 2) And greetings from Germany :D
The Last Array from Destiny 1 soundtrack. So good.
Destiny's music never really fails to impress ! Really looking forward to you reacting to Queens Oracle
This is the music for the final boss of the raid, Nezarec. It includes a lot of different themes and motifs, including the Darkness theme, the Cabal theme (the non-boss enemies in the fight are Cabal), the Guardian theme, and others. Almost all of Destiny's raid bosses have great music pieces. The First Disciple is one ,as is Riven of a Thousand Voices.
If you want to continue the Raid themes, I'd very much recommend the pair from Last Wish: Riven of a Thousand Voices, and then Shell of What Was (Queenswalk).
Not a raid theme (but it should have been), was A God on Mars and I really happened to like that one actually too in addition to the one's you already named.
love it, love destiny, love your content
tyty!! i'm loving the destiny recs!
Keep it voices or more commonly known as riven of a thousand voices ost is by far one of the best in the game. It’s long but it’s by far the best. It plays during the final boss encounter of last wish against riven who’s the last known of her species and has grown larger than any other ahamkara to exist. She has also been taken. It’s track has everything perfectly placed and has good pacing. Worth a watch with background gameplay of the fight
You showed up on my suggestions and have heard your reactions to a few of my favorite video games. Subscribed to you on the first vid. I'll have to catch your streams at some point. Might I suggest reacting to the persona 5 royal ost. It's a shift from your video reacts but still just as amazing
I recently was shown a P5 track on stream! Would love to hear more!
Destiny’s music is in my opinion some of the most creative and interesting there is, in my opinion. Not only are they superb just as pieces of music, but they’re also super effective as storytelling aides, which is so important in a medium like gaming.
I can’t wait for your reaction to The First Disciple. Probably my favorite piece theyve ever put out, accompanying the best boss Bungie’s ever made.
It’s also really interesting to compare it to Oneirophobia because it is, in some ways, a sort of follow-up to The First Disciple. Nezarec, whos fight Oneirophobia accompanies, is the second Disciple we’ve fought. A ton of the same cues are used, but they’re used in dramatically different ways, and incorporated with their surrounding contexts so well.
Where Rhulk is cruel composure, Nezarec is a sort of vicious hunger. Where Rhulk displays an aloof arrogance, Nezarec has a delighted eagerness. Where Nezarec’s loyalties and dedication are divided and sort of experimental, Rhulk is a singular, devoted Zealot.
Halo 2 sound track by Martin O'Donnell - peril a must listen to for game music. yesssss.
One I haven’t seen a lot of people recommend at all is the Whisper of the Worm, also from Destiny 2. Not their traditional orchestral piece and as a new subscriber, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
I only have one request for Destiny 2 and that is "The first Disciple!" There is an official soundtrack version that is only like 4 min, but on UA-cam there is one that is around 11 min called "The First Disciple (Full Action) that has like 1.1m views. That version is SO much better and makes it the best track that Destiny 2 has ever had!
A couple of motifs going on, retextualized and mixed. The Darkness, the Light, the Cabal, player theme, Neptune/Lightfall theme, all of which play into the lore leading to this fight. Some original added as well. Might have missed one or two.
Yeah dang those destiny tracks are bringing it!
agreed
To continue the theme of the raids, you could do look within and the first disciple
the first disciple is next up! just filmed that one:)
still looking forward to you doing:
- The First Disciple
- Forge Ahead
- Sepiks Prime/Sepiks Prime Redux (would be best to do both together imo)
- The Tangled Shore (this is a quick one, but still good)
these are on my list! first disciple coming tomorrow:)
I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but this piece has melodic motifs/themes from earlier soundtracks of the Destiny 2 game. Long time Destiny fans will recognize the Cabal (a faction in the Destiny franchise) theme within this piece which is fitting considering when this music accompanies the gameplay in the Lightfall expansion. The first time I remembering noticing the use of recurring motifs in 20th century film/entertainment composing was John Williams in his Superman (1978) and the Star Wars scores. I was a kid at that time. I'm not saying that it didn't happen earlier than Williams, but merely sharing that it was my first exposure to its use in music composition that I can remember.
Battle Ready is best for me in Lightfall
you should listen to Discipline | Destiny 2: Lightfall as well, its one of my fav especially the first part of it!
Pretty much all the raid boss music in destiny is designed for each section to loop into itself, and also smoothly transition to another section; this reflects the gameplay, boss encounters break down into phases where you have to "do a thing" while the boss tries to kill you, followed by a phase where you get to shoot the boss, usually that's where the destiny theme/guardian theme plays.
This entire song uses the motifs from the game to tell the story about battle of the light and dark. It's a common theme throughout the soundtrack.
Try the Riven of a Thousand Voices theme from last wish raid.
YES
Would love to see you react to the blended version of athanasia and security breach, very different pieces but so good
Every time someone reacts to Destiny music, i never see anyone recommend The Man They Called Cayde. It is absolutely my favorite track in all of Destiny but it never gets enough love. If you have time, please check it out!
Not sure if anyone has suggested it but “watchtower” has the best moment of any destiny soundtrack imo.
you should check out siege dancers from D1 Destiny 1
This version of the song unfortunately doesn’t have the DPS section of the song within it. That section of the song (that you hear in the game to damage the boss) is mind blowing, you gotta find that version and give it a listen!
2:40 is the second one I’m sure.
@adamboy0559 thats what plays during final stand
@@malthael966 it’s not final stand is further in. Final stand is around 4:00 onwards and when it ends is when you get wiped or killed nezarec
In case you missed it, I really think you should check out another Destiny 2 one called A God on Mars after The First Discipe of course!
Hi Em Young, there is an unreleased album from Destiny 1 titled - "Music Of The Spheres", it is absolutely beautiful, if there's one song I would suggest you listen to it would be - 'The Tribulation'.
"Hashladun's fall" is under estimate soundtrack of Destiny 2 (sorry I speak bad english im french)
"Music of the Sphere" is the 8 original music of Destiny and this the best of all
I don't use Spotify or apple music, I just open Destiny in the background and listen
will you do The Stains of Time from Metal Gear Rising, please?
Fear of dreams huh?
Destiny always brings it with the score.
From Lightfall I LOVE "CloudArK".
It perfectly encapsulates the entire dlc.
It's like the whole thing wrapped up in one song.
Otherwise if I'm honest what I'm thinking about like my top 10 Destiny tracks I think my favorite honestly....is
"WARMIND".
If ever I had a request for a reaction..... that would be the one for me.
Try giving the theme of safijiva form monster hunter world a listen
listening to the tracks is great but experiencing them during a raid final boss fight is another level, hope you do 'bow to no one' at some point its god tier destiny music
Still hoping for the day she will listen to the last wish ones(more specifically vault and riven's heart ones)
Can you listen to Faust from lawbreakers and the generation zero main theme
You should do Destiny Rise of Iron, that one is soooo gooood!!!
I have one track from that album up! Any other favorites?
Dang, was really hoping it was the in game version because that one is better. Parts of the track are just cut out on the official release, which is unfortunate.
You should check out the Returnal soundtrack!

@@emyoung “Ascend the Spire” and “Hyperion.” Both tie together with the first one being slower and more of a build up, to Hyperion being the song that plays while you’re actually fighting the boss (Hyperion). Separate are both good or I’ve seen the whole theme put together on UA-cam before. More synth driven but both great pieces! Anyway thanks for the reply!
One of the few good osts in from lightfall
Sound design in Destiny is always top notch but I never see anyone recommend The Sanctified Mind.
I know most people hate Garden of Salvation with a passion but I genuinely like that boss music and shows not always orchestral pieces.
Being a Vex Raid, the synthesised and electronic sounds really works well for fighting robots.
Tyrant Overthrown, End of The Line, The Warmind, Cabal Stomp, Emperor Calus Theme, Planetary Core, The Last Array, Fallen Saber, Bow To No One, Eyes Up and so much more!
Don't stick only with Destiny soundtracks but if you run out of ideas heres my recommandations!
