    In band class, we learn about fingering, tounging, and the right way to blow

    Thanks for these short lessons. I'm still considering getting a melodica and your videos are very convincing! X

      Same. I'm doing chromatic harmonica right now but they sound exactly the same so I'm considering cheating and using this since the keys are easier.

    its been a while since i've first saw this video, and i just cant believe how much i love playing that instrument! ahahaha i've been playing it for a year or so, and just realizing that most of the things, or should i say, all the things that i am able to currently do with my melodica are thanks to these series, so, i guess i'll go check out some singing videos, and with a little bit of luck, i will be singing melodies in pretty much the same way i play them in my melodica haahahah thanks a lot!!!🥰 from someone who really wants to follow the steps of great melodica players, like Augustus Pablo and you guys of course hahaah👽

    Thanks! I just got my melodica and I was wondering if I should tongue or not, so this helped a lot! I play flute as well so tonguing feels a lot more natural for me.

      Ryan D yep that's exactly what we're doing

      Ryan D maybe more like a "too" sound. Not sure, but thats how it is for a brass instrument to get a darker tone

      You can try double tonguing (ta ka ta ka) to play faster notes

    hmm...
    that may come in handy for some time, but I think it requires much more breath to do....

    • @Cheesy_Toes
      @Cheesy_Toes 7 років тому +2

      It actually doesn't, tonguing, or articulating, with your tongue doesn't take any more breath

    • @araragio
      @araragio 2 роки тому

      @@Cheesy_Toes yes it does. the more effective way is to just stop breathing out, which keeps all the air trapped in your lungs and sounds literally the same. The tounging just makes the mouthpiece a lot more moist than it has to be and I dont like moving my tongue like that.

    When I hold the mouthpiece in between my teeth it either starts to hurt after 5mins or I hold it too loose and it falls out. Do you have any advice for me in this case? (also it seems the tube is not long enough so i have to kinda stretch it out to even be able to reach it, this causes it to act like a spring, trying to pull out)

    • @MelodicaMen
      @MelodicaMen  7 років тому +1

      Miklós Ürmös what model are you using? Our tune is a little more flexible than more other brands so the mouthpiece shouldn't spring out of your mouth. Try holding the mouthpiece very lightly in between your teeth by putting the ridges just past your teeth. You shouldn't need to hold it too hard and you shouldn't have to put the entire mouthpiece in your mouth; just a very small part of it. And try not to grip the mouthpiece with your lips because that will be very tiring. Let us know if this helps.

      Melodica Men I am using a Hohner student 32. It's mouthpiece barely has a ridge. Thanks for the advice so far :)
