hahaah do not underestimate this knowledge. i've only saw this once like ten years ago, and it really has helped me out in improving my melodica skills in a few months. ahahahhah and dont be surprised if you buy a melodica in the near future and start beating ass really quick with all this knowledge ahahahha best of luck, and please do consider buying yourself a melodica, you will have a lot of fun nailing your favorite songs, or even making your own compositions ahahhahaa
@@TheAlienizerTeam These aren't real lessons and more of a basic runthrough that's kind of useless. The actual lesson videos are on the MelodicaWorld channel.
I bought a beginner melodica and out of curiosity i checked with an instrument tuner app, 21/37 keys are in tune. That's a whopping 57%. Fun times ahead bois!
I've always wondered what the inside of the Melodica looked like, but I was always afraid I would break it if I tried to take it apart. I wasn't sure if it was a reed instrument or not... really cool to find out! Thanks!
Hey guys from Melodicamen, I was watching your video series, about how to play the melodic and I was able to confirm a theory that I had that the instrument sounds better making contracted chords; With your help, I was able to understand that the instrument sounds better, applying dynamics with the volume, intensity and frequency of the blow ... I congratulate you for playing the Melodica excellently and I thank you for sharing your techniques ... A hug 👐🏻
DarkCisum not that we know of because without the screws there is no channel inside for the air to be redirected into the reeds. The air just flies out of the side of the case and you can't hear the note. You might be able to leave out one of two screws but the note would probably be very soft and hard to hear.
ua-cam.com/video/PRcZkgK5ih0/v-deo.html In my video I show a quick way to test the pitch while the reeds are out in the open, but can be tricky. It has saved me hours in tuning though and seems to work :)
You don't have to put it all the way back together. Just apply enough pressure for the rubber gasket to seal so there's enough air pressure to make the note sound. You would cut the time by a factor of 10
Yes, if you do too much you'll have to make it (in this case) flatter by scraping some off the other side (indicated in the video). If it's too flat you'll have to make it sharper again.
damn! i play my melodica so much, that im not quite sure if it still is in tune! it was only a matter of time before having to come across the tuning process, and i really need the best of luck, as well as a more in detailed tutorial (not saying that this is bad, but to start, i dont even have my ear that developed as to recognize if a note is more sharp or flat just by listening to it) but if i wanna have a good sound, i will also need to be in tune ahhaahahaa
Thanks for posting, I'm still doubting to start with it. I wanted a reasonably good melodica, so I bought a Suzuki M-37C Melodion, it was badly out of tune (ranging from 10-40 cents!). However the shop just argued that melodica's are always a bit high. I could return it though, and got a yamaha 37E, tuning is 4-25 cents high. Still a bit beyond nice to me. Is that acceptable for these high grade instruments, and should I get used to doing this myself?
I can certainly relate. I just got a yamaha and was gonna duet with my self on ocarina when I notice the duet sounded off. I check the chromatic tuner and saw the melodica was sharp. It's very disappointing 😞 I mean if your playing with multiple instruments and percussion it's not really noticeable but in Duets it becomes more noticeable. 😢
Quick note, normal people don't have perfect pitch so "Flicking it to check if its a E flat" is not something I could do without a reference. (tho I wish I could :p)
I tried to tune my hohner soprano and my hohner alto using this method. I only did the lowest note on both instruments. They are now the correct pitch, but hardly respond. They reeds only start swinging slowly, when I blow gently, and won't swing at all when I try to blow strongly. The other (untuned) notes work perfectly. Now I'm afraid I damaged my instrument. And I don't think, I can undo the damage. :/
Thats probably because the space between the reed and the opening is either too far or too close. You’ll have to bend the reed to get the opening just right.
Thanks for this video. I just followed your instructions and then tuned my 2nd hand cheap melodica in which 30 of the 32 keys were out of tune. Ouch! I never want to do that again.
Hello, I'm planning on buying a melodica, for a beginner which model would you recommend me? As a beginner I really don't know how to tune instruments as I've basically no idea how it should sound, will I get it with time? Thx, love the videos
Bourgit thanks for asking. We would recommend the MM37 melodica as it is the highest quality instrument available for the lowest price(www.melodicamen.com/store/p10/mm37). You will learn how to tune it once you get it and try it but you won't need to tune it unless you play it for a long time!
I got mine a few weeks ago, and I have to say a few of the high notes are quite flat. The highest note, high F, is about a quarter tone flat. One other note, maybe the high C or D (I don't remember at the moment) is also flat. I'm not complaining; the MM37 is still a great value. I'm sure I'll be able to tune these notes, following the instructions in this video, but it's worth mentioning that some new instruments may still require tuning.
Is it necessary to assemble everything back in just to check intonation? Can't I just blow the hole to check with a tuner before I get everything back?
I tried this method to fix the out-of-tune E keys (it sounded like D note), but when I try to check whether the note is back again or not, it sounds like a C# note. Now I try to tune it back but it failed :"( What should I do to fix it?
I accidentally pushed the reed into the hole, is there anyway to get it back out again? The note won’t play and I’m kind of freaking out... please help!!!
No, they only need to be tuned rarely. I haven't had mine long enough to know, but from what I've heard, they probably need to be tuned every few months or few years, depending on how much you play them. As to whether it is necessary to tune it, it is only necessary if you don't like how it sounds out of tune.
We've also noticed that sometimes random notes take slightly more air to play. It could be because the reed is a little farther from the reed plate. You could try carefully pushing the "mi" reed inwards.
I also have this problem on my "A" note in the middle of my melodica. Is it a dead key because the notes beside it require the same amount of air to play but the "A" note requires more air
You push the button and blow through the melodica. All the built up moisture will come out of there. You can also just remove the pipe and tip it up also or both.
If the screws don't go back in all the air escapes and the melodica won't make a sound. You have to replace the screws each time to check if you've adjusted it enough.
After completing all 7 lessons in 5 min, I can now proudly say that I HAVE leant how to play melodica.

now i feel like a *_melodica master_*
Why am I watching this I don't even own a melodica
You soon will
Same
I am too
get oneeeee 😂
Haha same i watched all 7 videos

Yehey Ive just bought my own melodica and it sounds very good. I love it when it does not require too much air to play.
Lesson 8: Glissando
감자 Potato i second this. The glissando u guys did on rhapsody in blue is mind boggling.
Isn’t That the opposite of a crescendo? Just.. blow soft and start to blow harder
As Seen on tv Addict stupid
Gregor Milne Yeah, because people are born knowing this, makes sense.
As seen on tv addict, no, that's not what glissando is... think of a trombone sliding up or down, slurring without articulation
How often will a melodica go out of tune ?
I suck at tuning and stuff so yeah..
same once i tuned using a out of tune piano but that was not the problem e became a b! the problem was my bad tuning skills.
Just use a tuner :^)
Very nice video. Never thought about tuning it at all.
lets forget about this lesson
Can't you test the tuning before putting in all the screws again?
DarkCisum not that we know of because without the screws there is no channel inside for the air to be redirected into the reeds. Hey Man thanx you for this video. I have resurrected 2 melodicas. My Suzuki pro 37 is still sounding good.
I'm getting my melodica tomorrow
Very exciting!
Melodica Men I got it now and I'm learning the song broken from gorillaz
Kellton Kelly Awesome! Send us a video of you playing it on our fb page !
Melodica Men when I learn the song better I will be sure to do that
taco boy anthony Same lol
You don't have to put it all the way back together. Just apply enough pressure for the rubber gasket to seal so there's enough air pressure to make the note sound. You would cut the time by a factor of 10
Very cool!
But I think I'm too clumsy to tune, I'm so scared about ruining the parts/instrument. 😅
Get a cheap one and practice with it! I see there's one on Amazon going for $15.50 right now.
I feel like I should eat a left over taco from my brothers lunch that's how cool I feel right now
Hey, thanks for that video!
But I still don't understand, so the reed's material is permanently scrapped? What if I scrap it too much?
Yes, if you do too much you'll have to make it (in this case) flatter by scraping some off the other side (indicated in the video). If it's too flat you'll have to make it sharper again.
These lessons are really useful
Wow watching these videos are awesome since my melodica will be here soon. Thankies for the advices

1:02 hehe
you're gonna have to wiggle it if its your first time
and then youre gonna pull out
Cheeky spot

I’m to scared to do it 😂
@Melodica Men you have to keep on pressing and press harder to make it flatter if its npt tune or sharper to make it flatter?
Thanks! What type of tube are you using for playing?

thx for the info, I'll see what's available in my city as I'm french I suppose your store don't ship internationnaly?
Bourgit Yes we do ship internationally!

Is a melodica 26 good for a start
Thanks for this video!
How long is it usually until a melodica goes out of tune, and what can make it go out of tune faster
I think its because of moisture in your breath, and more moisture makes it worse
Good videos guys 👍👍👍👍
Can you do a cleaning tutorial as well?
What is the reed made of? Was that metal? I guess I should take mine apart and look. ;)
The reeds are made of copper
Suzuki makes their reeds out of phosphor bronze.
Is it necessary to assemble everything back in just to check intonation? Can't I just blow the hole to check with a tuner before I get everything back?
Is it possible to fit an S-shaped rigid tube to the MM37? Another manufacturer has them but I don't know if there's a standard size fitting.
How many cents sharp or flat is probably too much to play with other in tune instruments?
i would say above 10 cents, you'll def hear it
I'm hearing at 5 cents
Does tuning work for all melodicas? Or just this one? Will I damage my melodica trying to do dis?
Is it necessary to have to totally screw down each time until it's finally to pitch?
I tried this method to fix the out-of-tune E keys (it sounded like D note), but when I try to check whether the note is back again or not, it sounds like a C# note. Now I try to tune it back but it failed :"(
What should I do to fix it?
Does this work for all melodicas? I've had a hohner student model for a month and it is already out of tune.
I accidentally pushed the reed into the hole, is there anyway to get it back out again? The note won’t play and I’m kind of freaking out... please help!!!
My melodica doesnt produce sounds.I have not use it for a while
Can i still fix it?
how often do you need to tune a melodica?
Do we need to tune melodica every time? Is it necessary to tune Melodica?
No, they only need to be tuned rarely. OMG - so, if I have to tune all keys, it will take 24 hours... :-(
ua-cam.com/video/PRcZkgK5ih0/v-deo.html
this video shows a quicker way to test the notes while the reeds are out the case :)
I have a problem with my melodica, to play the mi i have to blow harder so i can hear it, any ideas?
We've also noticed that sometimes random notes take slightly more air to play. It could be because the reed is a little farther from the reed plate. You could try carefully pushing the "mi" reed inwards.
Thanks a lot, it worked
I also have this problem on my "A" note in the middle of my melodica. Is it a dead key because the notes beside it require the same amount of air to play but the "A" note requires more air
How many times can you tune it before the reeds have had too much material removed?
Takes a good while. It took few summer weeks with multiple campfires for it to go super sharp. Mostly the heat/humidity changes affected it.
Valeu Melodica Men! Obrigado!
I was pissed because I was going to use melodica in a recording session and its out of tune, I did not know that you can tune it.
Very helpful! Thank you! :D
Does it come tuned and will it go out of tune after awhile, i just ordered one and only saw your 7 tutorials and some of the songs you played
It comes tuned and yes
Thank you.
Whats the button on the bottom tho
You push the button and blow through the melodica. All the built up moisture will come out of there. You can also just remove the pipe and tip it up also or both.
Where can I order the same melodica you have?
www.melodicamen.com/store/p10/mm37
Wow I never knew you could even tune a melodica
Are you from America
Whyed you put the screws back in😂
If the screws don't go back in all the air escapes and the melodica won't make a sound. You have to replace the screws each time to check if you've adjusted it enough.
Thanks!
Yo I have the same one just the green
I didn't know tuning melodicas was a thing
I thought you were just going to WHAM on the desk... there-fixed...
interesting video
This doesn't actually look as hard as I had thought I'd be
shit, i tried, I guess I don't own the right file cos it's not doing anything
you can tune them? i couldve tuned it the whole time? life’s fucked
i dont even know that we can tune melodica
My keys don't want to come out of my melodica.
Seems like a lot of work unless it's an expensive melodica.
Sounds like bag pipes, no need to learn one of the hardest instruments, yay
I thought dental floss was airpods
oh wow. i just throw mine out and buy a new 10 dollar melodica when they go out of tune
not gonna do that
Fuck doing all that. Just buy a soddin' harmonica!
U
This scared me away from buying the instrument. I'll stick to a piano I can pay someone else to tune for me.
Thank you for this video.
