I've just bought this keyboard as a gift to myself. I'm a beginner believe it or not! Thank you for showing me around . I'm looking forward to years of learning and pleasure.
Good choice of keyboard for beginner to reasonably advanced, I think. I must have made 5 or 6 videos featuring this instrument now ...which really says something! Thanks for your comment :) Gearfacts
Nice one Just bought one yesterday also a biginner WI get there slow but surely
I have to save that $
The PSR E463 is the first Yamaha keyboard I have ever bought and I am really impressed. The ability to play midi files directly from a USB stick works for me. When used with a sustain pedal you can hold the Arpeggio without keeping the keys pressed. This allows you to really play around with the modulation knobs. Fantastic! Good job Yamaha.
Yeah I had the same reaction. There are some Casio models that have technically better sounds but man, for pure fun and enjoyment of music you can't beat the 463 :) #gearfacts
Does it come with the peddle? I’ve never had my own personal keyboard, but after doing some research I’m thinking about getting this model as my first. My late father was a producer/ audio engineer and I want to follow in his footsteps. :)
@@CuriousWhimz Sorry for the late reply. The PSR-E463 does not come with a sustain pedal as shipped. I bought the Stagg 21951 flat type pedal from Amazon for around £11 but you may be able to get one cheaper than this.
David Pilkington okay, thankyou :)
I just bought this keyboard. Trust me, it sounds better than this video represents
Haha yep I love this keyboard (and say so in the video) so I guess that's a double-recommendation :) Gearfacts
I believe this. I just came back from the store and tried it. I can say it totally sounds way better than in the video. But thanks for the video, though! It is always nice to check out some reviews :)
I’m planning on buying this one ❤️ thanks! 👍👍
Can you please tell if it's possible to write 7/8 songs with this keyboard? 7/8 beats metronome?
I did too yesterday
Just got one myself (upgraded from a PSR-E313 I started learning in 2009) this definitely feels nice to play and the speakers really do resonate surprisingly well.
Anthony Parson yup, I got myself an awesome E463 too and made some videos.
@@JeremySee hi Jeremy😊 I am from India..... love u bro like the way you do reviews😊
THANK YOU for the video! I just placed my order for my birthday! I'm so excited- this looks like SO MUCH FUN!!!!
It totally is the funnest keyboard I've ever played. Happy birthday and thanks for watching Gearfacts!
This keyboard is basically a remake of the Yamaha DJX. it does exactly the same thing and has the same sounds. I used to own a DJX and had many nights of fun using it. I`m currently considering buying the E463.
If you liked the DJX, the PSR-E463 will make you smile for sure
Had mines delivered this afternoon....👌
How do you like it?
i was already sold on this model but now i really want my hands on it those effects knobs look like a ton of fun
Yep, it's a LOT of fun. I am still really focused on my 463, still making videos about it after having it for a year :) GF
Effect knob! Excatly what am looking for.
Hello all. Now that Ive had time to mess around with this keyboard, I have to tell you that I love this one. In the past Ive owned a Roland D-20, a Korg M1, and a Korg Karma to name a few. Also own presently a Casio PX 160. Honestly, I just have more fun with the Yamaha. Does it have unmatched sound? Of course not. But it does have some sounds that are better than some of my previous keyboards as well. I think this keyboard would be a great one for gigging with, as it is light wieght and not very wide. It sounds great, albiet a tad metallic tone to the pianos. My biggest gripe is the placement of the headphone jack. Never seen such a bad place to put it! Rediculous! Its in the rear middle of the unit, and under a sort of lip that is difficult to see without lifting the keyboard. Nevertheless, I still recommend it because for the price, ya cant beat it.
I agree with your comments 100%. As for the sounds, I'm finding that for synth bass it is genuinely excellent. Plenty of fat, round bass sounds that work well with the very smooth filters. Thanks for a great comment! :) Gearfacts
Thank you for the info. Does it have a (good) sequencer?
@@enomusicality -It doesnt have a sequencer, unfortunately. Those are generally found on higher end keyboards. I wish it did. I get around this somewhat by using a Portastudio by Tascam
Just bought one as well. I am an intro player..and it sounds gr8.
t's the perfect first keyboard :)
THANK U I’VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS! THANK U SOOO MUCH
Thank you for the time you took to make the video.

Bought one today for the kids (and me) :D
Going to try it on the 24th :)
Hope you enjoy it!
4 months update: The kids love it! I love it!
or 3 months :P
I think I will get one as I value your opinion quite a bit...and have yet to be disappointing in ANY Yamaha product I've owned. . Even though I'm really an analog, semi-mod performer....sometimes I like to instant gratification so this coming next. :-)
Instant gratification yayyy!
I'm still kind of a beginner for keyboards, so I think I'm gonna buy the yamaha psre363. Great review though 👍
Tnx for your opinion i should buy the e363 too
Does the PSR-E363 do sampling as well like the 463? I guess I could just look that up...
I love the content of these reviews, but PLEASE get a mixing board so we can hear the line output of these instruments, and not just the ambient mic'd sound through the speakers.
Yeah, I know I'm asking a bit considering I'm watching a free show, but it would be much nicer with line recordings to hear what the instrument "really" sounds like.
Thanks in advance...
Hey Robo, thanks for that message. And yes i think you're right, it's time to smarten up the channel. I'm going to try to make all recordings direct from now on unless I'm doing tutorials or other videos that are focused on operations rather than sound. I've also recently upgraded my camera so hopefully everything will be in 1080p now. I just realised last night that the standard intro I was using was dragging the resolution of the entire video down significantly. So I've fixed that, got the new camera, got the commitment to set up direct recording and we should be good to go! Gerafacts

Yes I had that one, did several videos about it. Excellent machine :) Gearfacts
Gearfacts awesome I'll be sure to check those out
I bought this from Amazon yesterday without looking at a review. I just assumed it would be good, but this is far better than I hoped for. I'll bet there isn't anything a guy like Brian Eno could do with this alone. (Although I too wasn't feeling it with the clavier.) :)
I agree with all your statements there. As you play this board your mind will be jumping with ideas. And the sampler will make up some ground for those sounds that aren't quite right, like the clavi ...and quite a few others! But it's just a fun board with stacks of inspiration. Enjoy! Gearfacts

Fair suck of the sav mate! I was all set to buy the Korg EK50, as reviewed by you. But now you have thrown me a curve ball with your review of the Yamaha PSR-E463. The Yamaha is $100 more expensive in NZ. Your opinion on which to buy would be greatly appreciated. You have a nice relaxed way of presenting your videos, which are also very informative. Look forward to more presentations from you. Almost forgot, I am a complete beginner if that helps. Take care, stay safe.
Hey Max, thanks for watching and commenting. I’m surprised that the Yamaha is more expensive there, the KORG has always been the primo one here. So that is indeed a curveball. Hmmm. Well the pros for the KORG are: Better keyboard feel, better basic sounds, louder speakers. The major pro for the Yamaha, despite its weaker general sounds, is that it’s just so insanely FUN to play with. I tend to recommend choosing what’s the most fun, especially for learners. But I understand that some people might be intent on taking a pretty serious and focused approach to learning piano. But in truth mate, you probably already know which one you are going to buy:
The one that makes you smile when you’re standing in front of it at the shop :)
@@gearfacts Thank you for your reply. The Yamaha PSR-E463 is $799 here and the Korg $100 cheaper. I may go with the cheaper option as I am considering signing up for online tutorials. Keep your excellent videos coming. Have you considered doing a review of the Medeli AKX10. Out of my price range at $1499 here, but it looks to be an interesting keyboard. Stay safe. Cheers Max.
@@maxcullum2920 hmm out of my price range too but I am intrigued by Medeli…
I'm planning to buy one of these! I need to save money first! 😂
Good choice!
It’s really supreme. I wish I could get it...
They'll get cheaper quite soon I think :)
Hey bro, I really appreciate your review! Did it come with a power supply? I see that there are options when ordering this. Option 1: keyboard Option 2: keyboard + x stand + power supply & software.
Hi Robert, yes it definitely comes with a power supply so there's not need to spend extra. I'm rethinking my attitude to keyboards stands as well ..they're practical but very messy-looking when you get cables suspended around the legs. I'm going to get some kind of timber bench instead. But I digress... Glad you liked the video, I certainly liked using the PSR-E463 :) Gearfacts
hi, I recently bought a psr e463, it is a splendid instrument, but also complicated to understand all the effects and potentials, I only ask for one thing that I have not found and that I have not understood.
The function key, the one that changes the various functions, such as the volume of the keyboard, the volume of the styles and much more, here, I was wondering if it is possible to change the various functions and store them?
Or, once the keyboard is turned off, do they go back to the basic setting, therefore having to change them every time? thank you
Good question. You have the registration buttons under the display, but they won’t retain global settings for the keyboard. All settings will be unique to each registration.
Nice man but your setting isn't good....
When I get my keyboard of this model maybe I share you my youtube video.
I show everyone how I play this keyboard, Im no beginner of using any keyboard.
Im a pianist not proffesional but a average player.
I like to create my own music chill mix too, techno trance to relaxing mix.
On the keyboard is better for me then just using those music creator software on computer.
Does this model lets you use Mic singing too btw?
Hi, you can use a mic but it's just a 3.5mm socket for audio input, so you may have to use a small mixer or adapter of some kind.
Does the keyboard have the ability to play audio files in wav format also could you direct on how to convert from midi to wav using the e463
Yep if you have a look in the "File control" button, hold it down and use the direction buttons to move left/right until you find something like 'export song' or 'export as wav' ...My memory is unlcear but it's something like that. You'll need a USB stick in the back :) #gearfacts
Hi is arpeggios on e463 and ew300 and e363 the same? thx
Yep, same :) #gearfacts

Yes

Cool. Wish I could play better to give it some justice :) gf
I wanted to purchase the PRS e463, but wanted to load Arabic / middle eastern voices/styles - which I don't think is available for that model - as I understand it doesn't come with an expansion slot. Any suggestions on how to accomplish that? if not, do you know of any other 61-key portable keyboard that I can purchase instead?
Hi Will, you're correct, there's no option to do that on the 463. I'd recommend the Yamaha PSR-A300 if you can find one - great keyboards with lots of Middle-Eastern material. I'll post the link to you, just let me find it....

1:14 Reminds me of the second demo song on the PSR-E413, Jessica. Specifically its intro chord.
4:45 Ah, Sweet! Soprano Sax! It sounds good but I wish it didn't become so quiet on higher octaves. I do like how it fades in gradually, though.
6:40 Ah, what nice sample--YAMAHA! Why are you still using that sample?
7:50 You call the Roland samples "General MIDI" so...are those samples not really owned by Roland or are actually freely usable by companies?
11:00 What are the main demo songs, though? Are they Elements, Jessica, and Chillin'?
The General Midi soundset is reprduced by agreement between all companies I think, isn't it? Maybe with a licensing system or similar. They all have their own slightly varying version.
Does this keyboard has Sync start like Previous Psr models?
Yep
Can I play gigs with this? Or should I spend a little extra and get and MX series instead?
The quality of the sounds on the MX is WAY higher. You can gig with a PSE-E463 sure, but I'd class it as an amateur instrument (a brilliantly fun one) wheras the MX has a much more professional edge. Also it's lighter to carry :) #gearfacts
So... Question... I owned the CT-X3000 for a while, then finally gave it away because it was too complicated for me... Is The Yamaha Psr-E463 More user friendly than the Casio CT-X3000? Thank you!
Heck yes. I personally have declared the Casio CT-X series 'inoperable' because beyond the selecting of sounds, it's just too quirky to so anything creative. To be fair, editing tones is clunky as anything but reasonably easy to understand. Any kind of sequencing, forget it. The Yamaha's sounds are nowhere near as good but if you want to keep frustration out of your gig, it's a much more enjoyable creative path to follow. Lately I've been noticing that you can buy some awesome second-hand synths for the price of either the Casio or the Yamaha, though. Much better value. I'll be making a video about this subject soon :) Gearfacts
@@gearfacts I totally agree with your "Inoperable" Statement about the CT-X Series Keyboard! Thank you so much for your suggestions and keep up the Good work!
From my viewpoint 463 is a bit less loud than some Casios(I compared with ctk 6200). The only particularity or con.

You can set the PSR-E463 to record your performance in wav format as you play it. Then you can save the performance to a USB stick and share it freely. It's easier to do it this way than to connect the keyboard to a computer.

The sounds are a little bit better in the Casio CT-X series, but I place a lot of value in the FUN that a keyboard gives you. And for sheer FUN, the PSR-E463 is unbeatable. The Casio sounds good but it's a total pain to use. I still think the PSR-E463 is worth buying because it can sample, so even if the sounds aren't quite what you want, you can always create more. You can even get the Gearfacts sound pack if you want ;)

I got this gear recently. It's really amazing for the price. Sounds and styles ore fine. The only weak point is the recording and the sequencer. It's not a pattern sequencer, unfortunately it has only a linear one. I mean you can not set the measure lenght and create loops. This is to me the real missing thing. I'm really thinking to upgrade to Roland Juno DS or something like this.
It's a co-incidence that you mentioned sequencing on the PSR-E463, I just uploaded my tutorial this morning :) ua-cam.com/video/nx-5o80DWEc/v-deo.html

Would you choose this over a used professional keyboard like the korg i30 or the kurxweil k2000? If so, why? Application would be a home studio.
I'd choose those older models for serious composing. In this comparison, I'd quote the phrase "Jack of all trades" which is what the PSR-E463 is. And that's partly what makes it such a riot to use. But for a home studio (i.e. no live work component or kids to amuse) I think you'd be better off with something that has a bit more sound-building scope. I can't perceive any difference.
Always, always, the guitar patches fall on their faces. It has always been this way, no matter the brand of kb.
True. It seems to me that you might as well think outside the idea of trying to sound like a real guitar being played. You've gotta let it be what it is and take advantage of the keys. Figure out unusual ways to use these sounds instead of seeing them as a limitation. Just my two cents anyways :) #gearfacts

@@gearfacts thanks...that helps. Was stuck in a limbo as to which to opt for. I'm subscribing to your channel fyi :)
@@gearfacts but isn't it nice to have all the piano sounds that come with it so you don't have to buy simulators and plugins? Can it be used as a midi controller aswell if I have a bass sound in my DAW that I want to use with it?
Does this keyboard has mechanical noise
A little bit, not too much.
Does it have a headphone or earbud jack?
Yep it sure does :) Gearfacts
