I played 6 golden coins a ton as a kid. I also only played it on the og gameboy, so seeing these games without the blurred movements are uncanny to me.
The idea of Wario being German was always cool, but I think it was the best choice to make him Italian in the long run. Wario was born in the Mushroom Kingdom, just like the Mario Bros. It's entirely possible that Wario even lived in the same village that Mario did when Mario was a kid. So having all of the humans from that area have Italian accents just makes sense. I like to headcanon that Wario moved to New Donk City around the same time Mario's family did. And then at some point Wario met Jimmy T. At another point, Wario moved back to the Mushroom Kingdom. He got back in touch with Mario eventually, tried to steal his castle, and then the Wario Land games happened. Wario's Castle was destroyed at the end of Wario's Woods (SNES), and he used his remaining money to move to Diamond City, where he made all his new friends. Wario Land 4, Master of Disguise, and Wario Land: Shake It occur after he has already moved to Diamond City.
Mario Land 2 is one of my favorite Mario games. Really interesting locations and baddies and Wario made for a fun final boss. Especially with him using the same power-ups Mario used all game. I kinda wish they'd try something like this again but include Waluigi as well. I also thought Wario was saying "Oh, I missed" this whole time.

What a thorough dive! Certainly learned things I didn’t even know I didn’t know! Would love to hear your coverage of Wario Land 2, 3, and 4. 3 was a special kind of wild.
There is one thing I can bring up: Back in 2002, Burger King had these kids meal promotions of the Super Mario All-stars toys. Every toy came with like an activity book that had some trivia on it like what's Mario's last name and one of them was the question: Why does Wario hate Mario so much. I still remember the answer because according to the paper, Mario is a better plumber than Wario.
I remember getting WarioWare for DS, and playing it for hours, I thoroughly loved it. The characters had a lot of charm, the art and even the sound design was pretty cool.
16:44 funny thing about Charles is that he also at onepoint voiced donkey Kong and I think Bowser 64 I don’t know which line it was, but it was the line that was tone down that fitted the character and so that bowser wouldn’t sound like Mario I also think Charles is going to voice Wario in the Mario movie, since that’s the only character he’s fully voice acted before in other games and I think that would make one hell of a cameo appearance
the funniest Wario fact for me, is just the fact that the only thing that people remembers from Wario World is the pause music screen, like, serious, try to find one single person that talks about the gameplay or even story, people will only ever talk about this game when it's about the pause menu music.
Not that hard to find on UA-cam so I think this is hyperbole. This video isn't a deep dive into Wario World but I'm open to more focused videos on Wario if there's interest
Ironically, I knew Wario through Bomberman in "Wario Blast" so I inherently thought Wario used bombs for everything, and was sad to know that the bombs were because of Bomberman.
He can use bombs in the first Wario Land game, it's a power up. I agree with you though, it seemed like throwing bombs would be a bigger part of his personality... I think was at one point but they minimized his connection to bombs because it would hurt western marketing. You still see a lot of bomb imagery in the Warioware games, as the timer - as well as Warioland 4 where literally detonates worlds before escaping into a portal.
4:18 In Super Smash Bros Brawl in the subspace emissary, Wario captures Ness, this could be a reference to Pinocchio by both Wario and Stromboli kidnapping boys
For some reason I was sure Wario Land was a prequel to Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, with Mario stealing the castle Wario gets in Wario Land, I'm so glad this wasn't the case, I really hate the idea of Mario being evil, he can be mischievous but not evil imo. Great video, reminded me of WarioWare once again, I have no idea how I found out about that series for the first time but now it's one of my favorite franchises ever, I found it when I was already grown up too so no childhood nostalgia making me love it.
I loved playing Wario land 4 and saving Princess Shokora, such a cute story line. And yep just like you, I felt cooler bc it was the villain essentially being a hero lol
Super Mario Land 2 and Wario Land are still two of my favorite platformers. They both have so damn much charm. Wario really had a strong start, the lucky bastard. I still need to play the DX version of Six Golden Coins!
Great video man! I didn't know much about Wario besides him being super cheap in smash brothers with his motorcycle attacks lol. I always assumed that he was an evil brother of Mario when I was a kid too. I'd definitely love to see him in the main Mario story more as well, keep up the fantastic work
This video is a gem, I love these types of deep dives on characters and wario just happens to be my favorite Mario character. Thank you for caring about his Wental Health 🗿👌 Edit: my favorite thing about wario is the sheer amount of weird shit about him available in Canon sources. It is Canon that: -wario himself doesn't know how old he is because his mom never threw him a birthday party -his mom is the reason for his money complex. When he left home he stuffed her in a cabinet -he either used to, or currently, farms. He has a tractor and pet chicken named Hen Also something interesting to think about. If wario and Mario are opposite, we can learn some interesting things. Wario is selfish and hoards treasure. Mario is selfless and spends his money. But, while Wario's money goes to buying himself assets to use for his company (he tries to steal the money for himself but eventually ends up paying his employees anyway) Mario spends the money on...himself. not once do we see Mario use his money for anything other than advancing his own goals. Another thing is Mario treats Luigi kind of like shit and Luigi is obviously upset by this, but Wario and Waluigi have more of a traditional brotherly relationship where they fight each other but also care for each other. Wario is actively self-conscious and, while he has narcissistic tendencies, kind of sells himself out with jokes and stuff indicating his inner insecurity and deeper thoughts. Mario never has that kind of appeal. We never know his intentions. We never know what Mario is thinking or planning. He just. Does. He acts and reacts. Wario "practices being evil" and tries really hard to be a super bad dude I promise he's so evil and cunning, but Mario never tries to cover up. Anything. It's really odd.
3:52 dude I laughed SO.FUCKING.HARD my roommate yelled at me through the wall lmao, (I’m sorry btw bro if you see this video which I’m sending you so that you can understand 😂).
Dude I’ve been binging your entire channel ever since I found it. Amazing stuff!💖💖💖👏👏 also Wario World is MY FREAKING CHILDHOOD and the music, sound design, and overall look of the game is my favorite wario thing ever made.
I found it to be quite peculiar how, for a character who desperately Hates Mario, Wario has no problem joining the rosters of Mario Party, Kart, or any other spin-off. It makes me think that despite all he's been through, this greedy Doppelganger has a soft spot for The Mushroom Kingdom gang, even if he doesn't act friendly. And yes, I know Bowser also joins Mario in these events despite being a Villain, but I found Wario's inclusion to be more interesting since he and Waluigi are paired up with the heroes in Super Mario Party, while Bowser and his troops have their own half of the roster.
Thank you Treasure Games for help creating Wario World and Gun Star Heroes and I also gotta thank Sakurai for letting Mario,Wario, Peach and Daise for going toe to toe in that game.
As a fan of wario from the start(wario is the earliest I can remember being so immersed in a character role while gaming, I was the greediest little shit when I played wario games) I really don't like how sakurai has essentially reduced wario to and popularised him as a fart joke. Now wario being a bit gross was always a part of his character cause he was, you know, a bad guy a bad Mario so yeah he was a bit uglier, nastier, smellier, meaner he was obviously a not good dude. But he was also powerful and a "gets shit done" kinda guy who would get foiled by karma because we all should good and not bad like wario ok kids how do you look at that and come up with rocket power farts? And on top of that exclude the one move that the guy is actually know for being the shoulder charge? Sakurai is talented guy no doubt but on certain matters I believe he's full of shit himself.
WarioWare was a mistake. That's where Wario's characterization was overhauled, down to his design and personality traits, and naturally Sakurai used that version of him because it's the one that was the most relevant one at the time. The real tragedy is that Wario didn't make his Smash debut in Melee despite gaining an abundance of fan votes, if he did the Wario Land version of him would be still the most relevant one and it would have cemented him as a character, relegating the WW version to a potential alt costume in later installments instead of making it his primary one.
@Sho I love warioware but i do acknowledge there was some change that happened around warioware as that's when things get abstract weird with more slap stick and potty humour but that was more reflective of the micro games than the characters(ignoring crygor drinking intestine blasting chemicals the lunatic) Wario was still the greedy piece of shit I love him to be throughout. Dude came at us selling 5 second games that were probably made in 5 minutes about shit like picking your nose and the whole world bought it in droves while he wahahahas all the way to the bank, you fools you got scammed the joke is on all of us, can you expect less of the bad Mario? Even to the end Wario is fully prepared to skip town and not pay his "friends" for the 1 hour game jam that was warioware's creation and of course karma gets him so don't be a bad man like wario kids. So while he wasn't treasure hunting and man handling whimps like a boss warioware never betrayed the character of wario as he was a greedy piece o shit from start to finish, the micro games might have some potty humor in them but we're the suckers that bought them and make wario rich.
its damn nice to see you doing videos like this, back then many people made videos like that but they either make other content now or stopped making videos entirily. I am glad i found your chanel keep up the work🙌🔥
Wtf that phrase from Wario was freaking German that whole time ._. Well shit that's nuts but it finally gave me some closure cuz I was in the "oh I missed" boat to I never knew why it sounded so off to me but it did xD but yeah this was a pretty great video I had no idea Wario had so much lore packed in the older games I never noticed
I loved Super Mario Land 2. I had my red GameBoy Pocket and played the heck out of it. It was one of my all time favorite games. I also enjoyed Super Mario Land 3. I liked Wario Stadium, and it’s fun playing as Wario in Smash. Thanks for filling in the history. It predated me a little bit, but Wario and I go way back.
I have to wonder why the Wario Land series just kinda...stopped. If I recall correctly, the last game in the series was all the way back in 2008, as I said when talking about Captain Syrup. Sure, Wario has definitely found his footing as a game developer all these years later, but the games do show that he still goes on adventures every now and then. Just look at Smooth Moves, where the story begins with him trying to find a Wii Remote in a temple and run from a giant boulder, Indiana Jones style. Or look at Warioware Gold, where he finds the olden, golden toilet, the same one he tries to auction for money as part of his tournament, AND puts on to power up with during the finale. He's got a more modest job, but he's definitely still a lot more of a villain protagonist and an adventurer. So, why don't we get a new Wario Land game? Oh, and also, I have never heard of Welcome to Greedville before. I guess Wario either moved out of Greedville after all of his adventures, when he settled into Diamond City?
For E3 1996 Nintendo had RC puppets on the showfloor. A Mario Puppet and a Wario Puppet. They were both voiced. Mario was voiced by Charles Martinet and Wario was voiced by Dale Johannes who gave Wario a Jersey Accent.
It's funny, I owned both Super Mario Land 2 and Wario Land 2 as a child, and I never made the connection that the last boss in SML2 was Wario, lol. Still remember the day I got Wario Land 2. My parents wanted to get me a mario game but didn't know anything about games, so they ended up getting me this game instead as an easter gift. Was a very sweet moment. I loved and played the hell out of that game.

I think it’s funnier if he was German but puts on an Italian accent to mess with Mario since he already kinda stole his wardrobe
0:49 is what gave me my fear of the dark; seeing this commercial 45min before bedtime at the age of 4 game me bad vibes and before bed i told my grandma i see that yucky man swirling above my head, so she got a lamp that glowed turquoise and i felt better. My fear of the dark lasted until i turned 10
Some plumbers just want to watch the world burn.
Lol, ok Alfred
Wario is NOT a plumber
@@HonerableG True
Lol like Wario can't be bought
Lolll
4:24 lol that's from the Wario World game manual. I remember it even has a little Wario annotation next to it saying something to the effect of "who's the idiot who said I weigh 308lbs?! I just like to layer my clothes" 💀
This turned from why Mario is a bully to how wario made a bunch of money and then died
A perfect character arc

In the canon, Wario is actually immortal. Though with immortality mechanics similar to the movie Death Becomes Her(1992)
@@NimhLabs Wario isn't immortal. He could die if he wanted to, but he doesn't feel like it.
What a thorough dive! Certainly learned things I didn’t even know I didn’t know! Would love to hear your coverage of Wario Land 2, 3, and 4. 3 was a special kind of wild.
Wow i didnt know how complicated warios name creation was i thought they just flipped the M in the name and on the cap.
_"Look guys look! It is one of my greatest achievements."_
*~ Wario*
The part at 2:32 "(gasp) Topanga!" got me cracking up (I loved Boy Meets World when I was a kid)
I heard Wario say "Doh, I missed" as a child
the funniest Wario fact for me, is just the fact that the only thing that people remembers from Wario World is the pause music screen, like, serious, try to find one single person that talks about the gameplay or even story, people will only ever talk about this game when it's about the pause menu music.
Not that hard to find on UA-cam so I think this is hyperbole. This video isn't a deep dive into Wario World but I'm open to more focused videos on Wario if there's interest
I liked to know more of what happened to Captain Syrup and Wario's friend Mona and why she likes him. (Probably the only girl who actually likes him)
Funny Captain Syrup is a spirit in Smash Ultimate
2:21 “ Hey, This place looks like Pumpkin Hill! ” *proceeds to sing Pumpkin Hill throughought the entire level*
I can't believe Wario lived in Diamond City before getting obliterated by nuclear bombs
thanks for making this as someone who was always confused about this lore I really appreciate you making this.
Double dash him and waluigi special weapon was bombs. So that's something
@@theedwardian I always thought it was a wasted opportunity not having them as part of his move set in Smash.
In Super Smash Bros. game Wario could feed on Link's bombs or a bob-omb.
@@VOAN Bombs are also used as a logo for the warioware series as well as a timer for the microgames.
I still find it funny that Luigi gets seconds with daisy while Mario gets peach. And they all chill with it
We gonna need a Wario Odyssey
Would be something Nintendo would make mkre than another Luigi game or Waluigi reference
The universe isn't ready for a wario game of that caliber
We need a normal wario game and not these wario ware stuff . I hope one day we get a Wario world 2 or a remake of the original
I've been saying it for years: we desperately need a new Wario Land game. they're all SO good, especially the first three!
9:46 I use 3D maze as a Screensaver! I changed the brick texture to a closeup of my sona's smug face
Did you know that Wario has the ability to crush a apple with his bare hands, yet he uses it to pick his nose. This was confirmed in a manual
Started watching your origin vids from yesterday
was waiting for your next vid
and here it is!
4:18 In Super Smash Bros Brawl in the subspace emissary, Wario captures Ness, this could be a reference to Pinocchio by both Wario and Stromboli kidnapping boys
Warioware Inc. is my all-time favorite video game. I think having having ADHD is a major advantage to playing it haha
everyone involved in the creation of wario sounds like brilliant and wild wizards that we need a million more of lol
17:34 why is Charles Martinet dripped out of his mind like that?! 🤣
He seems so chill 🤣 That was at the premiere for the latest Dragon Ball movie. He voices a character named Magenta and decided to dress like him
@@TheMentok oh that's right! I forgot he was in that movie
I 💛 Wario
Btw you should make a playlist for your Mario related videos. Love these!!
Thanks! I have a playlist for the Mario vids now
I loved playing Wario land 4 and saving Princess Shokora, such a cute story line.
Wario also reminds me of Cartman from South Park, which blends well to add humor, depth, and life to the dark cartoon villains Wario was based off of.
Thank you for caring about his Wental Health 🗿👌
Edit: my favorite thing about wario is the sheer amount of weird shit about him available in Canon sources. It is Canon that:
-wario himself doesn't know how old he is because his mom never threw him a birthday party
-his mom is the reason for his money complex. When he left home he stuffed her in a cabinet
-he either used to, or currently, farms. He has a tractor and pet chicken named Hen
Also something interesting to think about.
Underrated comment, if only for your mention of "Wental Health" alone.
Also, other great stuff under that, too.
@Dahl R'Jay for waluigi it would be WentaГ HeaГth 🗿👌
The super Mario land 2 commercial Is givin me cow and chicken vibes
3:52 dude I laughed SO.FUCKING.HARD my roommate yelled at me through the wall lmao, (I’m sorry btw bro if you see this video which I’m sending you so that you can understand 😂).
15:23 needs to be an hour long
Wario is basically Mario's Reverse-Flash: they both wear yellow and they do everything in their willpower to make their enemies lives a living hell
WarIo is legit cooler than Mario and If he doesn’t show up in the movie I’ll be a little disappointed.
Mario's the man. Stop it.
OH MY GOD

Dude just found your channel yesterday and I'm loving stuff like this bro ✊💯💯✊ keep going On brother
There was an earlier Game and Watch game where Wario was featured as a senior worker to Mario at a job he worked at.
One of the best things about Wario is that King Bob-Omb felt threatened by his moustache in Super Mario 64 DS 😂
I LIVED for screensavers as a kid. My affection for them will never die.
Dude I’ve been binging your entire channel ever since I found it. Amazing stuff!💖💖💖👏👏 also Wario World is MY FREAKING CHILDHOOD and the music, sound design, and overall look of the game is my favorite wario thing ever made.
I appreciate this! Been wanting to replay Wario World as I was making this video. A GameCube classic
I still use "starfield" screensaver from like, windows xp. Exported it myself from a childhood computer. Fits my space theme nicely
Time to make a game theory that kitchen island is actually the Luncheon kingdom.
Made my day better with a good laugh at 13:42 lol holy crap that was funny.😅
I still find it funny that one of the reasons wario hates Mario is because Mario never let him be the cowboy
3 words to describe wario: greed, greeder, greedest
Do Waluigi (Real) and Rosalina next.
Yes plz
@15:54
Wow, sick Megaman cameo.
6:44 WHY are you stealing babies??
its damn nice to see you doing videos like this, back then many people made videos like that but they either make other content now or stopped making videos entirily.
I am glad i found your chanel keep up the work🙌🔥
Wtf that phrase from Wario was freaking German that whole time ._. Well shit that's nuts but it finally gave me some closure cuz I was in the "oh I missed" boat to I never knew why it sounded so off to me but it did xD but yeah this was a pretty great video I had no idea Wario had so much lore packed in the older games I never noticed
doh
I loved Super Mario Land 2. I had my red GameBoy Pocket and played the heck out of it. It was one of my all time favorite games. I also enjoyed Super Mario Land 3. I liked Wario Stadium, and it’s fun playing as Wario in Smash. Thanks for filling in the history. It predated me a little bit, but Wario and I go way back.
Awwww, he’s just misunderstood.
16:20 Wario kicking Mario right in the Groin. 😬😵💫😵
Wario winning on Western Land in Mario Party 2 is surprisingly wholesome. He finally gets to be the hero sheriff that he aspired to be.
Very excited for this ❤
Holy moly…yeah my kid brain totally thought “OH I missed!”.. thank you for clearing this up lol
Im in the 'I thought wario was saying "oh i missed" crowd'
It's funny, I owned both Super Mario Land 2 and Wario Land 2 as a child, and I never made the connection that the last boss in SML2 was Wario, lol.
Still remember the day I got Wario Land 2. My parents wanted to get me a mario game but didn't know anything about games, so they ended up getting me this game instead as an easter gift. Was a very sweet moment. I loved and played the hell out of that game.
