2:35 Peach actually used a decoy in Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, where she disguises Birdo as her, meaning at the beginning of the game, the cursed Peach is actually Birdo in disguise

I like to think of the Baby Bowser section of Yoshi's Island as Bowser wanting a friend out of Yoshi and Mario but playing way too rough because he never socialized with other children before. If anything, based on how evil Bowser gets in different games, with Odyssey featuring no Kamek and Galaxy 1 and 2 featuring Kamek for example, it's actually Kamek who pulls the strings from behind the scenes. Bowser's been shown to get things done properly on his own well enough, with his goal of defeating Mario be left at simply that, put Mario in a hospital and then visit him later. The games where Bowser is nasty and Disney evil is likely from a spell cast on him by Kamek which, if his enlarged form in Yoshi's Island is anything to go by, causes the Koopa King to lose sense of self and go nuts with power...except Super Mario 64, where he was likely under the influence of the Power Stars. Bowser is easy to manipulate because of how sheltered he was as a Koopa bab. If you notice, too, Bowser Jr. has friends to play with so he knows how to socialize. His dad provided him with a childhood he never got. I don't think Bowser Jr. is easy for Kamek to manipulate, on that note. Anyway, Odyssey's story ending shows Mario and Bowser have more of a rivalry than an enmity, because when Peach rejects them both, Mario is seen comforting Bowser as he just sits there and takes it. If it were an enmity, Mario wouldn't even go anywhere near Bowser.
There's also the fact that in the RPG games, Bowser is consistently shown to be a surprisingly good boss to the point where his minions serve him out of respect rather than fear. When he got literally possessed and started to act genuinely evil, his minions immediately noticed that something was horribly wrong. Essentially, Bowser is a good king who likes the idea of evil more so than actually being evil to the point where none of his minions even consider him an evil guy.
@@joshuakim5240 Yup, and if you noticed in Color Splash, when Bowser's possession is starting to falter, he notices Mario there, doesn't remember fighting him, and actually asks, "We having a party again? Or this about tennis? Or another kart race?" implying Mario visits the castle to personally invite him without any fighting. Paper Mario 64 is the only time we've seen Bowser acting genuinely evil without possession, an overabundance of power, or mind control. He's genuinely sick of being beaten so he just wants to win. Essentially, he cheats, which is a genuine Bowser trait. It starts becoming about actually killing his rival when Mario starts undoing Bowser's actually ingenious plan.
The 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie is easily one of the most original and underrated sci-fi fantasies ever. Long before "I don't like sand. It's coarse , and rough, and irritating. And it gets everywhere." there was "You know what I like about mud? It's both clean, AND dirty, *at the same time.*"
In the bowers brother segment you show blue bowser dying and say there's no enemy body double but those are definitely those red spiky turtles that replace goombas if you beat the game and start it over again. I think there are parts in the first playthrough that have them as well.
To answer the question towards the end, the entire dinosaur planet except for Dinohattan is desert, which is the reason for the merge. I imagine he intended to wipeout Manhattan and put Dinohattan in its place, but that one is just speculation.
Would love to see a video on the Mario movie, I've been fascinated with it ever since I saw it as a very disappointed 9 year old. It's so weird and off the wall that I can't even get worked up to hate it so much as be taken aback by what it becomes.
He was also the original voice of Moe and Mr. Burns on The Simpsons, but was replaced very early on. I'm not sure if any of his work actually ended up in any of the episodes, but he is credited in early episodes. Hank Azaria stated in an interview that the guy he replaced as Moe (not naming Collins but that's obviously who he was referring to) was fired for being a jerk. Probably related to his drug addiction. On Transformers (under the name Chris Latta) he also played Wheeljack and Sparkplug. And of course, Cobra Commander in G.I. Joe. There is a bonus feature on the Transformers DVD set where some other voice actors tell a story about how one time he didn't show up to record his lines, and it turned out he was in jail and they had to bail him out.
thank u for all the info. *Also, i ABSOLUTELY LOVE Superstar Saga and the related RPG versions* they feel so much more rich and full as games than the platformers surprisingly :0
Agreed. The RPG's from Alphadream were amazing. Especially Bowser's Inside Story. Hands down the best RPG of the Mario Series. I mean I loved the story, the battles, soundtrack. Just everything was amazing.
I'm sure they retconned the Koopalings being Bowser's kids because they got tired of answering questions about whether Peach is the mother and the logistics of how babies are made.
If I remember correctly, the Koopalings were only Bowser's children in the North American localization of SMB3, specifically the North American game manual. The Japanese SMB3 lacked individual names for the characters, which Nintendo Of America created.. Future Japanese games would use their first names, and drop the last of Koopa. As for "The Adventures Of Super Mario Bros. 3", and "Super Mario World" cartoons, DIC Animation supposedly didn't get input from Nintendo Of America in time, since NOA hadn't named the Koopalings yet. This left DIC Animation to create their own names for the Koopalings. I could be wrong about the Koopalings only being Bowser's children in the North American game manual. One part that could be interpreted as the Koopalings were intended to be Bowser's children, is the "long" suffix of the name "Koopalings". That suffix generally implies a younger, and/or less powerful version of whatever it is attached to, in this case, "Koopa".
Awesome video and great deep dive into his history! I love how in super smash bros, Bowser's double jump is literally the giant turtle kaiju Gamera's spinning shell flying ability haha. The lost media yt channel Kineko Video recently restored the quality of that old Mario film, it can be watched on here too. Keep up the great work man
The fact that Bowser/Koopa was named after a freaking Korean dish is probably the take away of the vid that will forever live rent free in my mind Also Peach having a fiance probably explains why she didn't marry Mario in Odyssey!
No offense but Peach's fiance isen't canon since the anime isen't canon to the games. Also, according to a Japanese artwork, the ages for the following characters in the anime movie are: Mario = 25, Luigi = 23 and Peach = 16 (underaged)
If I remember correctly, the dino world was just Dinohattan with the rest of the world being a huge desert, so I guess only Manhattan had to worry about the merge.
I know that the game didn’t come out yet when this video was made, but Mario+Rabbids Sparks of Hope is also another RPG that has Bowser as a major party member. He’s got a summoning skill and a massive bazooka that he uses to destroy enemy cover with. It’s definitely a far more interesting Bowser gameplay-wise by comparison to Paper Mario: The Origami King, but in THAT game he’s got some nice little dialogue about raising Jr. There’s also Super Paper Mario, which has Bowser in a very major role and also has him sent to hell, so that’s pretty cool. Great video all-around, though.
Also in Super Mario Bros. (1993), the dinosaur world is very sparsely populated. Only Dinohattan has life, the rest of the planet is desert. So presumably only Manhattan's population would increase if the worlds merged.
Wow. *Deep* pull with that King Koopa's Kool Kartoons intro!! I was mad for that show when I was little...it looks so comically bad now. Of course I'm gonna go dig it up after this. ❤️
there is one thing you got wrong, minor but you will see where they really got his look from if you check it out; he is actually loosely designed off the alligator snapping turtle not the smooth backed turtler, there were going but after seeing the alligator snapping turtle and how it is far more aggressive then the other. The turtle almost looks like a tiny Bowser/Koopa, yet the smoothed back one does look like the Koopa Troopas.
The common snapping turtle is actually way more aggressive than the alligator. The alligator looks way more intense but it doesn’t hunt it’s food, it has a lure in its mouth and sits on the floor of rivers w it’s mouth open waiting for fish to come into it mouth to eat the lure, it then bites down. The common moves around and has a long neck that it can move fast to catch prey. The alligator doesn’t have a neck that’s y when u see someone hold one they hold it behind the head
Do you have a source for that? The alligator snapping turtle does have more in common with Bowser (spiky shell and sharp claws) but I don’t know if they ever specifically said it was an inspiration. The Chinese softshell turtle may have been more familiar to them.
@@TyGuy2462 I was not either just found that at random when looking up stuff, there seems to be multiple views on the inspiration so not sure what it was
Given that the Koopalings look more like Boom Boom, it's always been my impression they were probably adopted. So they're kinda his kids, but also kinda not.
Bowser is probably one of the best well written characters in nintendo history. The dude just wants love and occasionally mario gets in the way of his plans
1:34 "Why is he holding his gun, lol?" .....because the Mario movie actually established at several points that the guns are used to also control the displays by pulling the trigger towards the display to choose various options like a remote. So he's pointing it at the screen, ready to turn the screen off after he's done ordering the pizza. There's your answer, lol.
I thought that the Mario content that had time travel and self paradoxes was not ambitious enough in my opinion, with Partners In Time, you would think the Shroobs could just instantly kill the baby counterparts of Mario and Luigi and what if they are attempting to protect them the best they can because if the babies died, the bros would also cease to exist. Honestly, that would make the game more interesting. And then Yoshi's Island DS brings out the strange lore of Bowser trying to burn his vulnerable toddler counterpart alive. Bowser should know the basics of time travel, do not kill yourself from the past or your parents unless you want to be erased from history forever.
Does anyone realize the Mario movie's brilliant parts? Example. They show every Mario world hazard. Desert, under water, ice, lava. Hell, it even introduced the concept of Mario kart
6:30 I’d say Wrecking Crew, Mario Circus, and Donkey Kong would predate it chronologically, if you view those games as more so following Papa Pio Mario, given Foreman Spike was his rival and the father of Waluigi and Wario.
Some of the Marvel shows do talk about the implications of the people coming back after the snap. The antogonists in Falcon and the WInter Soldier where mad because they were given free housing by the government when the snap left half the apartments and homes un-occupied, only to have that taken away when the legal owners suddenly returned.
This video was great, informative and also had me laughing at parts throughout while also giving me tons of nostalgia making me wanna go back and play old Mario games. Props to you sir
As little sense as Yoshi's Island DS makes in the timeline, especially since Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time exists, it does explain that there were once humans in the Mushroom Kingdom, aside from four of the Seven Star Children. The only question is what happened to them. It's either there is some evidence for the Toads being mutants theory (I doubt it), or like the Mario Bros. themselves, they all moved to our world, which is why New Donk City exists. It's just that the Seven Star Children, being who they are, are anatomically different from actual humans because of whatever magic there is in the Mushroom Kingdom. That's just my theory, anyways.
And I think they are still going with the idea that Mario and Luigi were natives to the Mushroom Kingdom, so I’m curious if humans in the kingdom will ever be a thing again 🤣
Yoshi's Island DS doesn't really contradict anything, there's no "real world" Mario was born in the Mushroom Kingdom and then moved to New Donk and there's a lot of human characters in the series.
Yoshi's Island DS actually has Kamek stealing human babies from all over the world, not just the Mushroom Kingdom. We know humans exist in the Mushroom Kingdom (at least 2 villages, according to Yoshi's New Island), and I'd assume they're still sticking around. And of course, the Mushroom Kingdom royal family are also humans. With not only Peach as current princess, but also Rosalina's family, from centuries before. Toads just seem to be the most prominent species in the kingdom, but there are human settlements. Mario's family of course moved to New Donk City at some point. Probably when they were still kids. And returned through the warp zone during the events of Mario Bros. This of course, leads right into the events of Super Mario Bros on the NES>
Mario Golf 64 had Plum, Charlie, Sonny, Maple, and Harry, and they were kind of implied to be residents of the Mushroom Kingdom. For context, the other humans from the golf/tennis handhelds are from the real world, and can only visit Mario's World if they prove themselves. Since the 64 cast are defaults/unlockables - and the manual implies Plum's still a novice and Charlie's just started golf - that suggests to me they live in the Mushroom Kingdom. (At least, until they were dropped for future games) There's also Diamond City from WarioWare, so perhaps some - if not, most - of them came from there.
One of the biggest missteps they made when writing the movie - a movie that was almost entirely missteps and is so bad it's good - is that they didn't get the concept of Princess Peach. Or Daisy, if you prefer. Their stories got kinda confused, and depending on which continuity you go with, they're either basically the same character, or not. When Daisy debuted, she was essentially a copy of Peach, or else she was just a renamed Peach, and since we only knew Peach as Princess Toadstool in America, it was even more likely that we could see them as the same character. So it was more that the movie makers got Peach wrong, rather than doing anything meaningful with a separate character. But the point of the character is that she is a Princess with a capital P. She is in no way, shape, or form an ordinary girl-next-door who turned out to be a princess all along but never knew it. Even before they brought in the more adult writing team who got things REALLY wrong, they should have fixed that. Because what is the Mario series about? It's about an ordinary guy, a working-class laborer (go ahead and make a John Lennon joke), who saves a Princess. The hero does not save a friend, or a woman from roughly his same social class. He saves a woman who is far, far above him in station. That's the whole point of the thing. The princess is so much more important than the hero, but in rescuing her, he elevates himself and gains importance. I mean, the year before Super Mario Bros, Aladdin was a big hit. Street rat rescues and marries a princess, defeats a villain, becomes important. All they had to do was watch Aladdin in order to get the point. Actually, the people who made the movie do NOT deserve to be excused for their wacky story ideas. They had enough to go on. People defend this movie like nobody had ever adapted ANYTHING from one medium to another, so nobody had ANY idea what to do. They had basic characters. They had designs to work with. They had a skeleton of a story. And they had a demographic. They even had a TV show that showed them how stories could be told in the Mario universe. They had every opportunity to do it right. They chose to ignore everything and go their own way. They have no excuses. They blew it fair and square.
I also lived through the early 90s, and you're right, and it really was like another dimension. I sometimes feel like I'm in the wrong universe these days.
My headcanon is that Bowser is disavowing paternity of the Koopalings so he doesn't have to pay a big pile of coins each month in child support; and he is fond of Bowser Jr., who was hatched from another mother, for being the most like him.
The Koopalings are the children of Bowser’s brother, Morton. Bowser adopted them after Mario killed Morton (the blue false Bowser) in The Lost Levels. This is why Morton, Jr. is, well, a junior. Source: my ass
Kinda random, but it's only me who hates Bowser's depiction on Smash Bros, he was made so animalistic and weird just because Sakurai thinks that is how he is actually supposed to be
He looks like a beast in super Smash bros, it kinda fits smash bros's atmosphere, you know, with everything being more serious. Just look at Mario for example, he looks super badass at times.
Whaaa I really liked that design! But I am super biased because I really like when cutesy designs get a monstrous/dark design. But I will say it’s odd that they only did it to Bowser and no one else.
They also did It to other characters, such as the DK crew and Megaman (The DK ones don't have actual voices, and Megaman constantly looks like he is dead inside)
Random thoughts/comments: 1:47 I wouldn't have a problem if they remade the game and had Kamek leading the magic transformations, but Bowser has indeed been shown to possess his own magic. Even recently. You've got stuff like his teleportation in Super Mario 64, his magic shield in his Odyssey battles, his random summoning of balls of Castle chucks & Gold shells (also in Odyssey battles), and even that time where he just straight up FLEW in that one 3D Land cutscene. I think showing how strong his magic can be when he really utilizes it would be great to show off in a remake. 2:32 Peach actually does use a decoy! Not against Bowser, though. In Superstar Saga he hears word of Cackletta coming to steal her voice and sets up a decoy. Birdo, disguised as Peach, gets her voice stolen instead. I have no clue how she gets it back, but she seems fine later in the game. 🤷♂ 3:13 The Super Mario Land games are also mainline, which have Tatanga and Wart as the villains respectively. I don't think you intended to include them when saying "mainline," but I just wanted to point out that they are indeed official mainline titles. 4:06 I can't quite remember who calls Yoshi a Koopa. I think maybe it was Tezuka? Really weird idea and I'm not sure if Nintendo agrees with it, lol. 23:09 Actually in the Mario universe, time travel works differently. Partners in Time indicates that in the original Shroob invasion, none of the future characters were there, and Bowser's Inside Story implies the threat was handled by the baby bros! With Luigi crying defeating them all, lol. It is indeed weird how rude Bowser is to his past self here. There are some weird character moments in Yoshi's Island DS in general. But I guess it's not too weird as Bowser wouldn't want his past self getting in the way of his future plans. And he _DOES_ stand up for him at the end of the game. 8:26 As most of you reading this probably already know, the Mario comics are not canon to the games, so nothing gleaned from them can be seen as accurate. It's most likely that Bowser is indeed an orphan, and even Peach herself is likely an orphan as well. With her parents not showing up in Partners in Time, it's likely the Mushroom King and Queen died while she was still a baby. The Super Show and Mario is Missing are also non-canon, as you'd probably expect. There's another non-canon instance of Bowser's father, in Super Mario Kun, and it's pretty interesting! You actually get to see him and I believe he talks to Kamek! 9:58 So this is actually much more concrete than you may realize. Guides and Encyclopedias are riddled with errors and sometimes even false information, as Nintendo doesn't decide what's written in them. Nintendo themselves have never called that Bowser, "Bowser's Brother." They've always called him a fake Bowser, or Blue Bowser. And interestingly, Nintendo actually claimed that the Lost Levels takes place in a parallel world. They've stated it in the original Japanese Manual, as well as the Wii Virtual Console webpage for it in Japan. So it's possible that Blue Bowser is the parallel world's version of Bowser? Or maybe it is just a random fake? Who knows. But their current name for him, as shown on the Mario Portal website, is Blue Bowser. 11:35 Cool thing about the Koopalings no longer being Bowser's Children? That's one of like 3 major retcons in Mario's history. And honestly I think it's for the best. The way the Koopalings have been handled in certain spin-offs recently has been great! And it makes much more sense given how young Bowser supposedly is, and how much Bowser Jr resembles his dad. It's possible they already changed the story back in Sunshine, but we just didn't hear officially about it until they returned to the games. Overall, really fun video! Great research, cool visuals, nice commentary and jokes! Sorry for adding on so much, I just can't help myself sometimes. I've gotta go check out some of your other work now, as I had a good time watching!
On the topic of the old movie, I have never watched it and don't personally have too much of an opinion, but it doesn't look like something I'd watch, tbh. However, I am super hyped for the new movie coming out in April. My brothers have always wanted a full on, relatively same-style [as the games] Mario movie. And now, we plan to go and see the new Mario movie as a family, so it's gonna be a dream come true. In terms of the video itself, Bowser is one of my favorite characters in the Mario franchise, and I found this explanation of his history very interesting! Thanks man!
Fun vid @thementok . I have a 2 year old son who is absolutely obsessed with bowser (the modern orange + green one). He even brought his big bowser plush, the build-a-bear one from nintendos official store, to school today. It’s so disappointing that there aren’t any good videos/shorts that depict this bowser in a main character role as my son is always asking me “daddy, play bowser video, pleeeeease”. The best I’ve found are random cut scenes and videos of Mario kart play throughs with Bowser. Anyway, here’s hoping they decide to flesh him out a bit more. Seems more likely than ever since the IP got its first major film adaptation in decades. After watching this vid, I’m considering downloading every appearance of the orange and green meanie and making a compilation for him. Hell, I could even use some Smash gameplay.
@@HeathenDance funny you should say that. His favorite songs are “Dungeon Master” and “Mammoth Rider” by Visigoth. Other than that, it’s Blippi and Wheels on the Bus and other toddler shit lol
I’m surprised you didn’t include Bowser from Mario Bros On Ice. Basically the same costume as Kool Kartoons, except it just had the actor’s head…the actor being Mr. Belvedere…
I’ve been following Mario since there was only 1 game in the US, and I have never heard about this King Koopa’s Kool Kartoons before. Apparently it only aired in Southern California.
When watching the mario movie, may I recommend also the fan extended version with deleted scenes? It features iggy and spike rapping about how koopa is evil.
Why not just have the Koopalings as adoptive children, then? Maybe Bowser wanted an heir so he adopted them to possibly be his heirs and then Bowser Jr. was born and he became the heir apparent as a result.
King koopa the first drawing of him by miyamoto for the first game is colored gray because he was going to be an ox before it was decided to retcon him into the koopa species because it made more sense. (Pretty sure he said that in an article a long time ago, but I could be wrong)
I really like the idea of Bowser having a twin brother, i’d like to imagine he’s a bit nicer and somewhat friendly to the other Mario characters, and if I were to redesign him, I would imagine he would look like his NES sprite, no hair and backward pointed horns.
Well, you got your wish! Sonic Origins straightens out the events of the first game with beginning and ending cutscenes?? The first time Sonic learns of Doctor Eggman is shown onscreen. But a ground up remake that further fleshes the whole game out though? I personally love the idea, it would just have to be executed well
I really liked the live action movie... I always wished for a second one because of how it ended with daisy coming In saying how she needs them again and throws them the guns.
19:30 i was born in the 90s after this movie came out but i loved it when i was little in the early 00s. the scene with the fat lady in the elevator is where i heard the word "corpulent" for the first time ever, and i've known the definition of that word ever since
Koopa is derived from the word Kappa, otherwise known as the kawatarō, komahiki, or kawako is one of the yōkai (demons) of Japanese mythology . Silly enough, they would probably be considered more of an imp than a demon. The name “Kappa” is a portmanteau of the Japanese words “kawa” (river) and “wappa” (child).
Crazy how Mario and Luigi started out as a carpenters and then went from being the most powerful beings ever taking down not just Bowser but other original Mario villains and traversing through different dimensions, galaxies, realms, other worlds, etc. They were just broke, and these mfs go on to also be professional golfers, tennis players, soccer players, gamblers, etc. Their resume is insane.
21:00 - Not to defend that movie, but it handles that in the exposition. Dino-Hattan is the only pocket of life in that universe. His machine was only built to take that little part to the 'real world' .
Let’s get your boy to 100k subs! Like and comment if you enjoyed!

Yoshi being a koopa kind of makes sense. He has a shell on his back.
It would also explain his constant kidnapping of Peach and attempts to marry her.
In the RPG Mario games, Bowser was given a brash personality than your average Saturday Morning cartoon villain.
I mean, Bowser even has parental controls on Bowser Jrs nintendo switch, because he loves him and wants him to do his homework
Bowser is literally the most interesting character in my opinion
In the bowers brother segment you show blue bowser dying and say there's no enemy body double but those are definitely those red spiky turtles that replace goombas if you beat the game and start it over again. I think there are parts in the first playthrough that have them as well.
Bowser personality can change from game to game that's what's make him so iconic plus his music and design help alot
To answer the question towards the end, the entire dinosaur planet except for Dinohattan is desert, which is the reason for the merge. I imagine he intended to wipeout Manhattan and put Dinohattan in its place, but that one is just speculation.
The part on Bowser's mom makes me think if most of his family is actually pretty chill (with exception of his father) and Bowser is just like that
Princess Peach did actually use the decoy idea in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
I completely forgot about this detail when I made the video. Another comment mentioned this too and it makes me want to replay Superstar Saga. 🙂
And it failed
Would love to see a video on the Mario movie, I've been fascinated with it ever since I saw it as a very disappointed 9 year old. It's so weird and off the wall that I can't even get worked up to hate it so much as be taken aback by what it becomes.
Fun Fact: The King Koopa’s Kool Kartoons guy, Christopher Collins, voiced Starscream in the original The Transformers
That’s a nice fact
@@docmartinchic indeed
@@KasumiKenshirou mmm interesting

thank u for all the info.
Keep up the great work man
I watched it on their channel! The quality holds up so well
Jack Black nailed the voice of Bowser in the Super Mario Bros. Movie.
The opening 10 seconds of this video slap so hard and encapsulate my positive hype so well
man wtf and nobody talking about it
The fact that Bowser/Koopa was named after a freaking Korean dish is probably the take away of the vid that will forever live rent free in my mind
Also Peach having a fiance probably explains why she didn't marry Mario in Odyssey!
I ate bibimbap today and could not NOT think about Bowser today
17:36 - Terrible?! Bruh. That costume is epic.
I remember going to Blockbuster as a little kid in the early 2010s, and they always had the super Mario Bros cartoons that you can watch. Good times.
Also in Super Mario Bros. (1993), the dinosaur world is very sparsely populated. Only Dinohattan has life, the rest of the planet is desert. So presumably only Manhattan's population would increase if the worlds merged.
Happy Mentoktober!
Wow. *Deep* pull with that King Koopa's Kool Kartoons intro!! I was mad for that show when I was little...it looks so comically bad now. Of course I'm gonna go dig it up after this. ❤️
Finally someone who actually watched it! lmaoo It's a couple years before my time but man I'd love to see a restored version of it somewhere
there is one thing you got wrong, minor but you will see where they really got his look from if you check it out; he is actually loosely designed off the alligator snapping turtle not the smooth backed turtler, there were going but after seeing the alligator snapping turtle and how it is far more aggressive then the other.
@@TyGuy2462 oh yea the motives of the mythological turtle matches his as well pretty well

Bowser should know the basics of time travel, do not kill yourself from the past or your parents unless you want to be erased from history forever.
so shocked by the intro song, you sir are a Vamp of Class.
8:50 Seeing the left panel made me think: "this reminds me of something..." And then you added the meme right afterwards. Brilliant
(At least, until they were dropped for future games)
There's also Diamond City from WarioWare, so perhaps some - if not, most - of them came from there.
I love Bowser ❤
The Super Mario 3 and World manuals clearly state that they are Bowser's children.
But now Nintendo is walking that back, saying they aren't really his kids.
@@bitwize I don't care.
They are his kids, period.
The Koopalings are the children of Bowser’s brother, Morton. Bowser adopted them after Mario killed Morton (the blue false Bowser) in The Lost Levels. This is why Morton, Jr. is, well, a junior.

That intro was something special.
As a kid at the time....I loved the Mario movie. I didn't care it wasn't like the games...it was fun and crazy and I loved it
All off the questionable decisions, lost content, and thoughts of what could have been is just so interesting. Oh, and it's also very memeable too.
Yes, do a while video on The Super Mario Bros the Movie.
A mario game set in our world that is being changed by an invading King Koopa from the movie would be really neat.
10:15 That's not him "dying as is", that's a Spiney Turtle. Those are the things that Lakitu rains down on you from his cloud.
I considered talking about his Smash version but I think Smash deserves its own video.
@@miyokone Starting with For 3DS/Wii U they began leaning more towards the traditional depiction, standing upright most significantly
that intro was hella fire
OBVIOUSLY Bowser raised the Koopalings as his own, but then they grew up and got a paternity test
If I'm not mistaken, didn't Miyamoto confirm they were adopted at some point?
Your humor is awesome!
Mario killing Bowser's brother would be a great explation why Bowser hates Mario so much
I quite enjoyed the Super Mario film. I also want to see the much darker interpretation we never got, that would have been funny.
I thought for sure they established that the koopalings are his adopted children.
Random thoughts/comments:
1:47 I wouldn't have a problem if they remade the game and had Kamek leading the magic transformations, but Bowser has indeed been shown to possess his own magic.
3:13 The Super Mario Land games are also mainline, which have Tatanga and Wart as the villains respectively.
I just got to the Yoshi section.. refreshed your channel and the Yoshi video was up. Perfect
My new head-cannon is that the Koopalings are fans from the Bowser live action show.
Thanks man!
Have y'all been able to see the new movie yet?
Yep!
Mario Bros 1993 was as close to the original video game storyline than anything.

The actor who did Starscream's voice played a live action Bowser and got fired for screaming at the kids. I have to sit down for a sec
Surprising that you didn’t mention the upcoming Super Mario Bros Movie which Bowser is voice by Jack Black.
The level design at 0:23 is really cool
Well, you got your wish! Sonic Origins straightens out the events of the first game with beginning and ending cutscenes?? The first time Sonic learns of Doctor Eggman is shown onscreen. But a ground up remake that further fleshes the whole game out though? I personally love the idea, it would just have to be executed well

Always love to see people point this out 🇯🇲
Koopa is derived from the word Kappa, otherwise known as the kawatarō, komahiki, or kawako is one of the yōkai (demons) of Japanese mythology .
Silly enough, they would probably be considered more of an imp than a demon.
The name “Kappa” is a portmanteau of the Japanese words “kawa” (river) and “wappa” (child).
I don't think Miyamoto confirmed that but that makes a lot of sense.
Bowser reminds me of Minigome kinda
Crazy how Mario and Luigi started out as a carpenters and then went from being the most powerful beings ever taking down not just Bowser but other original Mario villains and traversing through different dimensions, galaxies, realms, other worlds, etc.
They were just broke, and these mfs go on to also be professional golfers, tennis players, soccer players, gamblers, etc.
Their resume is insane.
