- My tribute to Mark Knopfler: Sultans of Swing. Watch my other tributes to MK here: / @markknopflertribute . I'm an amateur musician who likes the sound of Mark Knopfler's guitar playing. In no way I'm claiming to be as good as or better than the original.
It's one thing to cover a song, it's wholly another to write and develop the song like Mark did...his creativity is simply awesome...and it happened 40 years ago....
I've thought this same way,The creative side to sit down & develop the song,Go inside those chords.
This song and a Strat go together like a horse and carriage. They were made for each other. Great playing, and the tone is perfect.

I have seen quite a few people play this song including a lot from the 80's during my nightclub years and I have never seen a more accurate cover. Very well done.

Playing the cords is only the first part. Fooling the listener into believing this could be Mark takes some doing. You dont just play the track you are feeling it. That part you cant buy it's a natural gift and you have it in abundance. Well done . Thank you. A.

Mike yo please keep trying, I can't play like him, but I can play some good stuff. Just don't give up. The key is practicing a lot. Fingers shall sore, you won't get the chords but trust me, with patience you will nail it. I myself am working to play this song.

Gave it some thought, but... okay, why not? It's all about sharing :-). Preamp 3 (combo) - gain 33%, bass 82%, middle 62%, treble 63%. Compressor: sustain 43%, attack 99%, level 37%. Fiddle around with reverb and delay to your own liking. Close the tone-pots of your guitar just a bit: 80%.

This is exactly as played by Mark and his brother David, who played rhythm guitar, on the original recording in 1979. It's so close to the original it's quite amazing. Should have got me to do the vocal.
You capture 100&% the groove, superb technique 100% as Mark would do (I think)

actually, it took me a couple of days - there's more logic in the song than you'd expect, it sounds more complex than it is. Once you've got the chords figured out and you understand the logic behind that, it's all downhill from there.

Well done. When I first heard this back in '78. I just Had to see how this was played. That lifting up slightly with the strings was one of the things Jimi Hendix was famous for like for instance on "VooDoo Child." In Concert he played that Strato like it was Second Nature.

Short Grey Idk, the playing is nothing to go against. I could see people not being a fan of the sound, a bit too much reverb and rounded sound. The original is very bright and staccato. But excellent cover

Spectacular job. I learned this waaaay back in '87 on a little Fender Squire Bullet, but I never sounded as good as you. You've made me want to dig out the music and relearn it! Thanks for sharing this.

The best solo I hv ever heard, if at all one shud compare, and try to find a fault, he is just 0.01% less thn Mark in 1 or 2 places, else he is brilliant. But thn must hear Mark play it one stretch live like he has done. Playing it perfectly whilst cutting a record, and playing it live mks a difference. Wud Mark too mk a 0.01% error whilst playing it in one go.

I'm trying to learn this now, and enjoying every minute. It's loaded with beautiful riffs. The lead follows the chords really nicely as you say. There is some beautiful playing in this song by Mark and you too. Very nicely done.

I've got a non-modified Fender American Special Stratocaster (with Texas Special pick-ups).The distance from the strings to the pick-ups is about 3mm, all 3.
I had to watch this 3 times to fully grasp how amazing this is
