@testdrivehero I have a US spec Golf GL that has the ABA version of this engine which also produces 115 hp...it is the same color and a 4dr. Thanks for sharing I wish I had the European Golf GTI MK3...but even my GL version is pretty peppy and fun to drive.
@@testdrivehero Thank you. I bought it brand new in 1996 and daily drive as well. I will never sell it. Before this I had a 1984 Rabbit GTI also bought brand new off the dealership lot. I loved that car, unfortunately it was stolen in 1995 and never recovered. I still hope the old girl is still out there on the road somewhere!
@@testdrivehero I was so devastated by that loss. I really did love that car! Fun to drive, my first new car, bulletproof, easy to maintain, and loads of character in a very good way....Appreciate your thoughts! Thank you so much!
I dont really know much about GTIs. Ive heard this wasn't the best model. I have always loved the way these look though! The wheels are fab and it's really well proportioned. Doesn't seem fast though. Much rather have a D Turbo Peugeot model
People are starting to see the MK3 is not as bad as they thought. 8v engine plenty of torque, capable to go on highway at 160kmh with no problem, super reliable engine and also better dynamics than expected. It was (and still is) a good car and even a joy to drive 30 years after they were released.
@testdrivehero yes it's got that VW quality. I have a 2002 Fabia wagon. Same as in your video but the 1.4 16v. It is an ugly car. It looks like a wobbly jelly on wheels. Everybody in the family has used it. Recently was sat for a year. A few hundred quid later it was back on the road as good as ever. I drove it about 5 miles to put some petrol in to sell it and I cancelled the sale! 🤣 it drives beautifully. So smooth, and the controls have a real quality feel. 24 years old and still perfectly good. Was a cheap car new. How can you buy better?
@@testdrivehero I have the US spec Golf GL that also came with the almost identical engine ABA 2.0L 4 cyl 8v 115 hp (manual 5 speed trans) ....it's very fun to drive and only missing the GTI spec suspension specs in struts/shocks/minus rear anti-roll bar. (The USA did get the GTI trim too) but GL and GTI had the same engine! My car is a 1996 made in mexico spec car, and has been bulletproof with only a little wear and tear...paint is failing (dark green metallic) my headliner is also failing a little but just a small patch the size of the sun visor and I have glued it back into place for now and seems to be holding. A very entertaining car to drive, I will be putting GTI spec struts and shocks on it soon since the originals have finally started to wear out after almost 30 years now. I have factory AC in my car too, and it works perfectly and has never been worked on either! LOL Puts out 38 F air in 95F ambient temps.
I often wonder if Golf 3 GTI is worth it, almost 1100kg, not a powerful engine and I've seen many VW from that era obliterated by rust... and the GTI badge makes it most likely to be stolen unless it's garaged. But I would love any VW powered by a VR5, be it a Golf or a Transporter lol.
@@marten6578 We have to put in mind that you are in early 90s and it was a good car in, it was a very improved MK2, with more torque and much more comfy. And also if you want more power you can choose the 2.0 16v ABF engine 150hp or the VR6. PS: Yes, still have the badges this one😎
@@testdrivehero If I ever come across any that's under €5000 and in great condition, I'll seriously consider it. But I doubt with current pricing though. ☹️
@@testdrivehero Love VW, love GTI from MK1 to MK8, it's a shame what globalization do to this icon brand. First sign of center on profit policy is when thay draw out Polo R from WRC. She looks so good to be 29 years!
Yes, that why I selected this car for the test drive :)
Nowadays to see an MK3 in that good condition is super difficult!
Lovely!
😍
Conservo buen recuerdo de ese motor. Andaba mucho y sonaba genial. Gracias por reactivarmelo 👍
Lo he disfrutado muchísimo!
Bua.. increíble..la piel de gallina me encanta el golf MKIII y sobre todo este en especial...
Cuídalo,se lo merece.
Saludos y Gracias
Gracias Diego!!
Un placer rescatarlo y compartirte la prueba :)
A real classic ❤💪
It will be!👌🏻

Arguably the worst GTI ever and still very popular and quite expensive for a 30 year old car. I think I’d choose the Peugeot 306 instead.
I just choose over the Golf the 306 on GTI-6 version😎
