- The nights are longer and the weather is more severe. When being on the hill it is imperative you are prepared, especially in the winter. BMRT has put together a couple of short/informative videos, to give you and your rucksack 'winter extras'.
What extra kit do you carry in the winter? Comment down below.

I carry maps as you suggest but have used OS phone mapping and plotting for over 5 years without a problem on a separate phone (with a power bank ) . I also carry a Garmin GPS
Always carry a map and compass. One thing people don't do once they have been on a course to learn these skills, is to practice them in a safe situation.
@@NullDestination I agree, I’ve been in a SAR role for 3 years and still come across hikers spinning a map and compass, totally bewildered as to where they are
I came across someone with his young daughter and google maps trying to work out where a peak was... suffice to say I made the suggestion they headed down hill.
@@NullDestination 😂 The funniest I’ve seen is a young lady trying to walk the South Downs in high heels with her boyfriend.
@@tonygilbert7348 that is absolute genius. A friend of mine who's an ML was up on kinder recently. Met 2 men out walking in the snow one in shorts and addidas samba, the other in a pair of shorts and sandals.... the sandal wearer was wearing wooly socks however!! 😳
