When you were reminding us to not forget the spacer before pressing the second bearing on, I was thinking to myself, "how does he know that spacer isn't too thick or too thin?" Then you brought out the special tool to pre-install the bearings to check the fit. Now there's another tool I have to make.

Hey Ralph I have a couple questions for ya... 1. I'm thinking of buying a cylinder hone what brand to you use/prefer? 2. What grade stones do you use? 3. What Grade dingle berry hone are you finishing with? Awesome work!!! I've been a fan of your bikes for years..I remember 20 some odd years ago I was on PEI and the fellas house I was stying at had I think he called it "Blue" One of yours...Cheers...Oh and I'm a fan of "This old Chopper" also and just subscribed to Hippie and Slick

I use a Sunnen expandable hone. 100 -115 gt for a lot of removal, 200-215 gt for next to finish, and then ball hones. Bought them at NAPA cylinder ball hones. Not sure on grit / 120 to 240 maybe. Never had a problem with this combo. Thanks for remembering some of my builds through the years. Brings back memories. Yes I think I know the Blue bike you are talking about, if it was one with dark blue base and teal colored long sort of drips drips painted on it. Teal seat I think as well. A very nice Softail, loved riding it! Hope this helps you out. Thanks for commenting.

I'm learning so much about shovelheads.. I haven't had one since 1986... me at 8 stock to boot. I started fixing the wiring on the crane ignition and it was all broke all the way up to the sending unit in the nose cone so I figure heck let's just put points in it... I went ahead and kind of timed it.. looked at the old vacuum plate and kind of said it where it was with the new backing plate with the points on it.. and then advanced it until it wouldn't start well hot.. then I retarded it so it would start easy so I know I'm somewhere close..

What are the dimentions to those spacers..I work on forklifts..replacing wheels..might come across the spacers for shimming wheehs on axles that would work on the crank bearings..

They are pretty specific I think , for matched sets. I would have to look a that. Thanks for the info and commenting.

    Ralph,
I asked sometime ago about your fabricated primary nut adjuster tool. I see you sent your buddies in crime Slick and Hippie ones ( hey I get that, gotta take care of your brothers) however, do you now have any for sale? Just asking, love to add one to my collection of specialty tools. Let me know if there’s one available. Thanks

Hello Keith. I was going to contact you, as I made and extra one, in case you still wanted one. I was just not sure if they would go through customs. Stuff like that coming this way is usually a problem. So I tried by sending some to my "You Tube" brothers down there to see. Send me an email, with your info, and I will package it up and check on shipping to you, and let you know the cost. The one I have here is for shovels and earlier bikes 9/16th nut size. Evo clutchs ,and up take 11/16th nut. Contact me and we can work it out. Contact me here ralph@itsmytimeletsgo. Thanks.
